I agree. I have been mining and trading for a time now. I quit worrying about BTC price fluctuations as in the end (when things seemed gloomy) it always bounces back and stronger each time always, and ready for another fall but seemingly not as bad as the previous...I'm hanging tight with coin...no panic selling here! just riding out another the storm.       (yes we have - in part - Mt Gox to thank this time)

BTC way to resilient.  I see a quick turn around in price. Take a little time to phase out China, but it will find its own new markets with or without China. My miners are still humming away and growing.

I tend to think the that most of the drop has already occurred when the rumors of the ban first broke. This is just the last shoe to drop before bottom...I hope! lol I think most of us where believing it was or would be banned.

I see this as part of BTC's natural flushing out of who's in and who's out. Just as the weak and mismanaged exchanges will be out. (GOX etc.) BTC will carry on.

IF it is true, I would still hang tight to BTC. I don't thing the big players in China are just going to roll over and give their BTC away. There will be some flooding I'm sure but don't feel it will crash the market. Just an opinion.

Interesting thought lol, as you know the mining business.. especially for BTC and the network of course is in a true arms race now,. The only ones I see really profiting continually will be those who are selling hashing shares with a ton of fee's or the lucky few who buy enough mining power to make a quick buck before difficulty renders their machines useless. I don't see any individuals making a true return in the long haul,,,, kinda like a money pit. Wow what is going on...been a while since these prices have been touched. To much mining and not enough demand. This sux.    But might be a great time to buy in. Still hoping for that late last QTR rally? lol... wishful thinking perhaps.

To many people buying/investing into cloud mining contracts and buying their own mining gear as opposed to simply buying BTC for investment. That's a lot of money being spent that otherwise may have been used for direct BTC investment had mining not got so easy and main stream for people to do.

It just seems that as the asics and big mining farms have grown and got more mainstream BTC value has steadily decreased as cloud mining has rose in popularity.

I feel this trend has killed the overall value of BTC over the last 8 months or so. Basic supply and demand issue. Then add in the massive difficulty rise and there really isn't much to be made in mining either nowadays. The balance is lop sided, not sure what will even things out.
 
I know there is many other variables that affect price, but those same variables have been there for a long time now. What is new is the easy mining availability as opposed to that money being spent in the markets on BTC.

This is just a perspective as a miner.

I do not see anything out there going on that would cause a real turn against bitcoin. More bright spots and positives for the future than negatives.  For sure

Christmas shopping money 

2013 Christmas was the only year I did not have to break out the charge cards for shopping...lol I cashed in nicely at just about 1,000 price btc, oh how I miss those days... even though it was short lived  

And this new "CPU mined" altcoin called Secure Coin I had been mining all year since launch 2013, was massively pumped at the same time BTC was rocketing.. so scored on 2 fronts.. was a great Crypto Christmas  

Enough reminiscing,  I think we see 450.00 tonight

Isn't that what alt coins are?   even though many have some unique and more efficient algo's etc. none have been able to catch BTC...

At the end of the day, miners will control bitcoins future in a very precarious way. Maybe not centralizing per' se, but will have the ultimate sway in fee's and the security they provide in processing and so forth.

Would be an uphill battle for another coin to muscle out BTC. All that makes good sense, but x-coin would probably have to be a new or very different algorithm, because many existing sha coins cannot duplicate and are mostly a clone of BTC to begin with. So for another coin it would have to have, new mining gear/softwares and all that development involved with Asics etc. to mine x-coin ... huge hurtles starting right there. So I'd say bitcoin just has to make the necessary changes for improving block size transactions. I think BTC isn't going away anytime soon?

That's a good point, we know the banks are looking hard at their own centralized crypto as well as other major developers, but all will have to overcome the image of being centralized as well as provide blockchain integrity of some sort though hashing? I don't know of any other way to support a blockchain. So even with a new coin(s) I still think somehow BTC will be the gold standard of sorts... were as their new more efficient and probably targeted use coins, will convert to BTC... IDK, I'm sure many fall asleep at night wondering about all of this

Yes and maybe no lol, I think Litecoin is faster in terms of transactions because there is less transactions, and it blocks in 1/4th of the time of BTC... but tends have more orphans etc. from that. Nothing worse than mining for hours only to find the block you hit doesn't pay as it was orphaned   and again, is a fork of BTC, albeit a great coin

I don't think its going to be a hard crash. I think are many seeing it as a good time to buy a little BTC. Not sure how much of this dip in price is really about Mike Hearn ( if any) anyways. I see more of it as a reaction with Cryptsy (and the bad press it always brings) and the stock market crashing today. Come  Monday make that Tuesday lol, Monday is a U.S holiday.....things will be back swinging upwards probably on all fronts...

I am all for testing, rather to get it right the first time... but good gosh, there has been so many solutions thrown out there its enough to make your head spin. Most of them would have solved the block size issue to some degree,,, so what's next if SegWit loses steam and support...

Nah, he is painting the worst case scenario. I think so long as miners are at no less than a break even, and there is signs of a slow but steady price rise, then most will hang in and see where it goes. I don't see suddenly 300 PH dropping the day of halving.

Sure some will turn off their miners and wait it out, but would be spotty and mostly small home miners more than likely. Now if BTC is around 400 ish or worse at halving then there could be a real "problem Houston" But given where we are today in price..... I don't see a hard fork and all the other gloom and doom.

BTC is still the anchor for Alts such as Eth and so on.... now that could flip at some point? Eth becomes the new anchor in crypto, but unlikely

All true, and remember that basically the same miners were still hashing when price was 230.00 not so long ago, and then at 330.00 etc. So were at probably 650 ish to 700.00 so they will carryon mining short term for sure... no dooms day  

plus those fortunate enough to have the newer gear S9's etc. will be just fine even at 650.oo for now

If miners are smart they hold tight to their fresh coins and dry up the supply and try to force the price up.... they may just naturally do that anyways. Still thinking price will be nudging up slow but sure.

Ya if you keep your fixed BTC rate your customers will go pay cash somewhere else.... cheaper than the fixed rate in BTC. Somewhere along the line you do need to compensate for your rates when BTC was low and you took the hit. I would reward myself a little extra for as long as you can, after all, the miners you maintain would not benefit the owners if they were not running

I think once those who wanted to sell realize they have seen the high point in this rally, this will level off, and still believe 900-1,000 has a good chance as a floor range. 1,000 is where it should be at least when considering halving not to long ago. Its already bouncing back  

What's pulling the rug out from under BTC price..... all gains from last few weeks slipping away 

Yep China is investigating BTC exchanges and alike it would seem.... such great timing

Watching this for almost 4 years now, I think its coming back soon... fan correction in play   probably a good time to pick up a coin or 2.

Maybe this is all Fake News about China and banks... designed to drive down price, buy cheap, and drive price back up by saying China Bank is ok with Bitcoin

Seems every time there is a big dip, its always something with China and the PBOC.... we got to get off that train someday 

Ain't that the truth! this gets old from them. Might take a while for things to level out... but if China really did ban btc ( which won't happen) ....  but if so,  with lower volatility, which has plagued BTC... perhaps its value would rise and become more of a steady investment for some. Who otherwise wont touch it because of these swings. Granted, many make money that way in here probably   trading can be rewarding when risky lol
