Holy selloff batman!

Or, holy shakedown

Still it amazes me how little it goes down.
A sell like this was enough for a drop to 110 dollars a while back...now it drops a few dollars. People don't panic anymore like they used to do.
Instead it seems people consider it a great opportunity to buy "cheap coins".
I could be wrong but that's the feeling i have.

I get that feeling too.  Maybe it's because every panic has been beaten back so well.  I still remember the panic to $98 being turned straight around back to >$110.

after a while.. the selloff game is getting boring..
i remember the day i started with bitcoin..    i'd be loosing my mind back then ..  and panic selling .. and ofcourse.. loosing lots of coins lol

these days. it's like..    yawn.. whats next?..

i want a rally up.. i'm so bored... i cannot even short this selloff.. with lack on volume on ask side.

I assume by shorting you just mean selling btc. There is no vehicle for shorting the value of btc if you own none. Correct?

I think we're going to go WAY HIGHER than the NASDAQ did since that crash. Even the bears (I think) will agree. There is no way that bitcoins will exist five years from now without being $5,000+ per coin or $0. This $100-$200 stuff will look like a barely noticeable speed bump.

5 years on the NASDAQ chart equals 1.15 month on the BTC chart.  Smiley

The hair stuff I can't recommend, but maybe that's just my stiff thick asian hair speaking. anyway, 25% of profits go to charity!

Tuesday evening and clark moody is telling me 11k total volume... I believe that is for past 24 hours. Not possible. My eyes are lying. Can anyone confirm?

Indeed, Gox has seen incredibly low volume lately.

Does anyone know of a site / service that tracks overall exchange volume, including services like Coinbase? I'm not sure they even release numbers, come to think of it.

Mt Gox is now significantly delaying deposits of incoming wire transfers (link). I can't buy bitcoin there even if I want to despite sending a wire over a week ago.  Seems like you can't get anything in or out of there.  May as well officially change the name to Fort Gox...

I can't decide where this is going, too little volume.

I shorted around 180 during the downtrend after the huge sell...Then at 180, it perked right back up. I figured it was a short bounce before a continuation downwards, and continued opening short positions up to 190.

Now, I'm not sure if I should close the positions and take a huge loss...or wait it out, and possibly lose all the BTC in my leveraged short positions...

Opinions?

There will be a correction before the next big move higher. I would wait.

And what about Amazon?

EDIT: FinCEN guidance was clearly not touching them!

Amazon will embrace bitcoin before Ebay ever does.
Bitcoin as a payment system is a potential competitor of Paypal owned by Ebay.
I'm sure Ebay would prefer that bitcoin fails.

Danger: Curving upward on the log chart. If we don't get a correction soon this could be the final blow-off to quadruple digits then crash.

Someone please STOP THIS THING Grin

Look at this chart, and compare the $10->$266->$100 period from earlier this year with the 2011-February through 2011-April time period: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#igDailyztgSzm1g7zm2g25zl

I'd post a chart with those two regions circled, but my MSPaint skills aren't good enough.

I'm comparing it to the month of March 2013, now just entering April. It's so close to an exact match for the past 30 days that it's uncanny. That suggests another doubling+ in a week then crash (possibly).

If we do a repeat of 2011 then God help us.

Not if. When.

It's an exchange, not a store to buy BTC. So short of coin means no one want to sell at current price. Seems only around 1000 BTC in the ask side.

I suppose if there were all buyers and no registered sellers on an exchange and the buyers placed all their coins in cold storage the exchange could run out of coins the same way bitstamp seems to have run short of fiat.

Gotta love Bitcoin.

It drops over $300 within minutes in a flash dump and all it will probably amount to is a long bottom wick on a green candle.

Slowed down the assault on $1000 though.

Talk about a bear trap.

millis or mills      = mBits   = 0.001 units
micros or mics      = μBits   = 0.000001 units

The logic being 100 cents in a Dollar/Euro but we don't say centidollar or centieuro, we just say cents.

"centi-bit" cBTC
"milli-bit"   mBTC
"micro-bit" µBTC

The money in circulation today ($USA) is 1,18 trillion dolars [...] the projected theoretical value is 1,18 trillions of $ /21 Million Bitcoins= $56,190.47 per bitcoin.
How about the us debt + the rest of the world currencies?
We're talking about circulation (aka: the $ that can buy gramms of gold). Debt is not in circulation (or it may as well is - who knows Tongue )

About the only thing that is in circulation is debt, as even cash is debt. Someone took a loan for it to be around!!!  Grin

Not necessarily true. Governments pay people for stuff all the time.

They do, but they become indebted to central banks or others to do so.

Also generally not true, most government outlays come from taxes. Only a small portion of expenditures in a given year are from borrowing.

In the US, at least, M1 is larger than the internal debt, so cash is not debt.

If the only one allowed by law to issue dollars, euros etc are banks (central and/or peripheral), and they only issue it as loans, then all money has to be debt, old or new.

Not if that debt is settled without removing the cash from circulation.

That can never happen because of interest.

Let's play a game. Suppose you are a central bank and I am a client. There's no money in circulation and you are the only one allowed to issue it. You also require interest to issue money.

Now, I request a $10 loan. With interest, you should get back $12. BUT only $10 exist. The only solution is for you to give a loan to the next client and then the next etc............ all the way to infinity. Until numbers lose their meaning!!!

I hope you understand!!!
As far as I understand, the interest is actually counted as profit, and doesn't disappear when you pay it off. It actually gets spent into the economy again, unlike the principal that do disappear when you pay it off. So you can pay off $10, then $2 gets spent into the economy, and you can try to earn that to pay off the last $2 as well (simplified). It doesn't make the system moral in any way, but I still think it's important to be correct about it.

It's not a matter of morality. It's just impossible since the $2 don't exist.

That is true. The loaned $10 is generated out of nothing by banks and the only way to create the $2 interest is to loan more money into the economy. It is a pyramid financial system. That is why the GDP has to be positive each year to avoid recession. But that requires exponential growth since it is 3% added to the previous year's 3% increase, etc.

Suppose you originally could afford to lose $10,000 and put all of that into Bitcoin at $100/coin. Having $110,000 at $1100/coin doesn't mean you can't afford to lose only $10,000 of that - it means you can now afford to lose $100,000 more than you could before.

In other words people can use it but not require anyone to pay with it. Same as gold, silver, etc.

Yes it is a virtual commodity, not a virtual currency so the Chinese can still use it as they intended: as a hedge against the yuan and to transfer assets outside China.

What the heck are you talking about, ive been getting all these benefits "for free". I have never paid a dime to any credit card company. No annual fees, no charges, nothing... I have all the above "totally free". If you have never heard about these things you should do some research.

You absolutely have, you just aren't aware of it.  Merchants are charged fees by the CC processors and those are passed onto you, the customer.  Don't think you're not paying for that shit one way or another just because you don't see the charge first hand.

Not only will merchants begin to offer bitcoin discounts because of the lower overhead compared to cc's but as A. Antonopoulus explains once the rising (deflationary) value of bitcoin is recognized by merchants they will have as much incentive to obtain bitcoins vs. fiat as hoarders have and will discount bitcoin prices accordingly.

seriously, i cant wait for the day Intel, IBM & co will jump on bitcoin's train.. CCMFFFFF for ever and ever and everrrrrr Shocked

But what if Intel jumps on the train by designing an IC that's far more superior to any other ASIC chip, and they just use it to achieve over 51% of the total network! They could destroy bitcoin! They're experts in IC design like no one else!!!

If Intel developed an advanced bitcoin ASIC they would sell it and/or use it to mine for profit.
A 51% attack would not be nearly as profitable and would not destroy bitcoin.

I just started a poll here. Vote if you want Chartbuddy back (or if you don't).

You are able to buy from SecondMarket? What is the buying rate relative to Stamp?

I usually don't get as good a price as at Stamp but I like that I don't have to wire money until after the order is confirmed.

We've been going down for 9 months. Why would it stop here? Do you see anybody dying to get back in? I certainly don't.
But whatever you do don't follow my investment advise because in the end i know nothing more than anybody else here.

Apparently Bit Coin Investment Trust wants back in.

If the price climbs back to $500-$600 does anyone think people that previously purchased above $500 will be afraid to hold any longer for fear they will never get their money back? I'm not sure I'd be comfortable buying in at that price anymore unless I was going to immediately use it to make a purchase. It may be better for the overall economy if the price doesn't climb too much.

You could say that at any point. Are people that purchased above 260 previously afraid to hold any longer? Are they comfortable buying at this price?
