It's not about being "wealthier", it's about not being irrational: if the price is extremely volatile, we already reached the peak, and there is a down trend, why would you risk the chance to sell everything now and buy again on the bottom?

I'm expecting more >2000btc drops, are you not?

I bet more money is lost by people selling on a top and waiting for a dip, than buying on a top just before a crash.

It's really interesting how 90% of the people who try to beat the market and fail don't brag about it much.  Just those who got lucky and made .7 btc's.

Recovery.  This seems like a false attempt to cause panic selling.  It happened in middle of weekend when everywhere people are out of money and bought their btc's over the week.

WTF just happened on Bitstamp? $10 growth in 10 minutes after a huge stagnant period?

Yep. Don't be fooled by the massive ask overhang, the trend is against it.

Don't be silly guys.  What happened was that the bitfinex funds got through to bitstamp.

huge turnover already today, might really see the 400 $ / BTC today :-)

that's true, we might.  but that $10 spike was from bitfinex.  The Americas and euro is barely even awake so far.

I just witnessed on Gox a single massive 1.4 K sell at once at 430 dropping all the way down to 405. Damn.
It's good to see how bitcoin isn't affected by this kind of things any more.  Smiley

and yet it bounced RIGHT back up to 430.

I don't have the numbers off hand to back this up, but it seems like the April-May rise would have been seriously affected by such a sell even for a few hours.  This time around it's almost like these dumps don't happen.

Am I crazy for feeling this to be the case?
I

no this is indeed the case.

the "bubble pop" happened on very little volume, everyone let that knife fall. no one is letting the kinfe fall today... ( might be because the chinese promiss to buy ALL the bitcoin for mtgox price +10%  Tongue )

sheez where's that guy with the 700 dollar per coin contracts? he just simply just ignored me LOL!!!  Cheesy /\500 will be the proving ground imho!

Do I hear $500 tomorrow?  It's quite possible given todays high was $70 higher than yesterday...

I think the odds of seeing <350 tomorrow are higher..

why just because their was a small correction just now?  rebounce to 400 on btsp shows strength at even this time of the day.

It's my opinion that there won't be a weekend mini crash.  I think the mini crash happened earlier which was today?, and a lot less noticeable.  The recovery was fast and made a nice cup and handle that wasn't too steep.

Next week i think the volume will pick up as the week goes on, and prices will likely hit 500-550, God forbid some bad news such as www has crashed, or Congress enforces death penalty on all those that own bitcoins.

sirus runs that site, i doubt something odd is going on. (unless hacked)

either way it is unprofessional to state a file is 9 mb and it is actually 11.1mb.  especially to a new user that is getting to know bitcoins

$500!!!!

looks like the chinese were later after all...

I think the impact of demand from China is overblown.  The volume in China is driven by day traders because of the 0% commission rate.  I think new U.S. investors with deep pockets are behind most of the recent price increase.

If I were given to conspiracy theories, I would think that the media was scheming to link the price of Bitcoin to made-up Chinese demand, expecting the Chinese government to outlaw Bitcoin, thus creating a big crash.
1) Any reason for your first assumption?
2) Why on earth should the Chinese government outlaw Bitcoins? It's a gift from heaven for Chinese economics. It might get like the nuclear bomb of international economics.

1.  I have no proof.  I have no secret source from China.  When I read things in the lamestrealm media, I try to read between the lines.  I try to figure out what facts they started out with before they started their garbling and slanting process.  I'm guessing that they saw reports of high volume at BTCChina and falsely concluded that this must necessarily mean there is high buying demand in China.  They probably don't know about the 0% commissions, or don't understand that it would lead to a heavy volume of speculative day trading.

The burden of proof lies on the one who asserts the positive, and I have seen nothing outside of MSM reports to suggest extraordinary demand from China.

2.  The Chinese government believes in tight capital controls and has already outlawed other non-government currencies.  The best predictor of future behavior is relevant past behavior.

you should have stopped posting after 'I have no proof' because it only makes you more clueless

/
So, where do I set first buy when I go to sleep in a couple of hours?  Shocked Grin

Think of the value.

If you value bitcoin more than other things, just buy now. If you would like to have more coins but don't mind having some other things as well, select a suitable buyback price.

My buying range is $300-$500 but obviously I haven't set the bids yet because it would look bullish on charts.

(I disregard sarcasm and seize the opportunity to teach Wink )

it's sad that so many people can't even buy anymore coins, because their buying range is like 20-50 or 100-200 or sub 500... guess there is a need for the ETFs and 2nd markets...

Just a side note... Gox is the only place I have traded where I lost coins having sold higher than I bought them. Ponder that.

I see.  I've pondered whether bitcoin will correct more if GOX fixed their cashout system.  This seems a bit too bubblicious right now.  I feel bad for the weak hands that are getting in on it right now.

I hate how Gox takes the fees out after the transaction and does not add them into the purchase/sale preview. Its like, "Surprise! We just subtracted $20 from your sale."

That buy/sell/transaction log is the worst i've ever seen, if you can even call it that. It's just a messy cluttered hard to understand table.

Also, don't they start deleting transaction histories once it gets too full?  For me, I had 8 pages of history dating back to 2010, but every day it gets thinner and thinner.

Baidu acceleration music

Ignore the music part, thats bad translation

Right move from Baidu at the time, in fairness. Not worth keeping a btc address with an exchange rate that fluctuates a lot for those about 30 people who paid in btc in total, in a month.

On a side note: it seems to me that the sentiment in this forum is quickly moving towards bearish, which conversely means to me that there's hope we don't tank so much.

I don't understand your logic.  If people on the forums are bearish, wouldn't that mean there is better chance of tanking, since ppl expect it, then that will bring more sells.

Isn´t it funny. In a bull market you sell and buy back higher, in a bear market it is the opposite. you buy back and sell lower. You are not alone...

Lol, yeah.  that's why the best traders don't get phased much.  they pick a spot and start a position, then go on a vacation, come back and reep the rewards.

Thoughts on this theory going into the weekend?

Usually we see a decline in price on the weekends, especially near in time to reaching an ATH.
I believe most people attribute this to a lack of new fiat being able to be pumped into the exchanges to purchase BTC with.

But in this case, with a decline preceding the weekend, there is plenty of fiat already on the exchanges.  People sold btc and are now holding fiat on the exchanges.  Therefore, everything else being equal, isn't it just as likely that we see a rise over the course of this weekend as it is a decline?

On the other hand, there is also unlimited of BTC's that can be added to the exchanges to be sold.

You guys can see something bad in nearly everything. Non-exponential growth isn't automatically 'bearish'. Even if it went to $500 and hung out there for awhile, that's still not bearish, that's still incredibly bullish growth.

Thank you for instilling a little sanity and common sense amongst all the negative angst.

Who is instilling sanity and common sense?  Look at the charts.  A double top at 1100-1200, china almost has a triple top.  Now a dead cat bounce to 900-1000 on almost no volume.  Preceding this was a 130-1000+ rally in about 40 days.  We are at the absolute top of the bounce right now.

don't flip flop your trades...

you want to put yourself in a position where you don't care if it goes down, and love to see it go up.

and then you just HOLD that until really want to invest more, not speculate more.

Yeah, i was pretty sure it was going to drop, thinking this was a smooth dead cat bounce, but it is just staying about 875 for so long... not sure now... plus the consensus among bulls and analysts is that it will hit 1200+ ... i said forget it with the shorting intervals, lets go long...

definitely bad trading strategy in the long run... i should be toast right now... but i am up 2k in the last 2 weeks.

The reason I've been so bearish is because of China and the last crash.  How is China supposed to hit higher than 1200+ usd if it doesn't have new money coming in?  But i pretty much give up, because all my shorts has destroyed me, though it worked out good in the crash.

Why would the western whales dump?

I say FUCK CHINA. We know btc in Communist countries is a big NO NO. Lets move to India ..... where btc will shine for all the good reasons.

If btc stays in China, its just gonna be speculative trading vehicle.... where they will cause volatility.

At this stage, we dont want volatility.... we need market adoption to utilize BTC technology.

The thing is, like 90% of this 145-1200 rally is caused by China, at least China jump started it.  So to say F china, means you also have to accept the correction that comes with it....

China is asking for id for all accounts just like GOX, and hence people don't even have access to accounts now?

Chinese tenpay (sp?) has been taken away.

This seems to have happened within the last few hours.  This isn't 100% confirmed since i got this info here:

Come on, everyone knew they would start to charge a fee at some point.

Sure, but why just now...?

This what I have just witnessed in the last 3 hours in chronological order:

1) Huge dump on btcchina of 4000-5000 coins causing price to drop $300 CNY

2) Stamp didn't really drop too much, just 20-30$

2) potential FUD / real news coming out of weibo that Chinese banks are barred/prohibited doing business with bitcoin services, an upgrade from the previous  government's "discouragement"

3) Weibo post deleted

4) Another headline perhaps popped up... in chinese: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=372998.msg3991166#msg3991166.

5) BTCchina adds .3% fee, takes away tenpay option, asks for documentations from users... all this in the last several hours

6) Stamp drops $50.

Here's the thing, I'm sure chinese people can read Chinese better than us.  Google translate does not work well with Chinese, since the tenses are all messed up.

So if this is just FUD, why would somebody just insta sell 4000 coins at market?  That is just strange.  If he is causing panic, why would he do it when USA and Europe is at its prime on a Monday... This is usually when the money arrives in the exchanges, and when 2nd market buys... wouldn't make any sense...

Yes, it is time to go long on USD

Edit- I shouldn't tell you what to do.  But this is what some good analysts are seeing- According to prior crashes, this crash should reach around 330-400.  Elliot wave analysis also confirms this.  However, elliot wave also is saying bitcoin could reach $40 in the next year(s).  So who knows.

Regarding BTCchina, no one knows how low it could go.  It's likely not going to go higher if you can't deposit and no one is interested in holding CNY.

bitcoin is happening!

as far as i know we still milking the FUD from yesterday

Wow you are still calling it FUD... and you are still trying to be bullish... you're going to cost newbies a lot of $$$ once the people on BTCchina transfer their coins to other exchanges to sell.. They're probably doing it as we speak right now...

Thank goodness bitcoin pays for and supplies the pills I need to handle its stresses. Stimulants to stay awake, relaxants to prevent panic, sleeping pills, and alcohol... lots and logs of alcohol needed now.

just smoke some weed bro

terrible advice, weed could cause both panics and make u tired... the worse calming drug out there for someone on edge.

Yes, the closer something gets to 0, the smaller the difference.

The immediate trend is strongly UP. On daily basis we are way oversold. I expect an advance to 666 area in the following hours/days. After that, the downtrend resumes and visiting the long-term trendline at about 450 is a strong possibility.

EDIT: Bitstamp

meh I shorted it at around 585... this thing is ridiculously oversold the last 6 hours...

all the exchange trends are following China, lol.  China is going down in flames in the next 2-3 months. Even if the wall is taken down, and we hit 1000, it will go down in flames.

There's some gamesmanship involved here.  It makes no sense to put 1k wall there.

Five weeks ago I went to southern Africa and have had no internet since then.  I left just after the US congress hearings and have just now got internet access for the first time since then.  Looking at the past price charts  Shocked  wtf?

At the risk of sounding lazy, I really don't want to have to go through hundreds of pages of this forum, so could someone give me a very brief summary of what happened?

Did the interest generated by the US hearings drive the price to $1200, or was there anything else in addition.  I've picked up the btce issue but is that the main issue which caused the price to then crash from $1200 to current levels?

Also, are cash withdrawals still impossible out of Gox?  What about bitcoin withdrawals?

Cheers guys, really appreciated.

Double top at 1200... and down ever since.  The last crash was the worst, down to almost 375 btsp.  Now it seems like a recovery on no volume and trend is bearish.  China has put the stamp on bitcoin and it will continue to do so.  It is not going to change its stance.

No if there will be a flash crash, it will be much bigger than what we've seen.  Bitcoin will be consolidating.
