I'm just wondering if the one who sold 8.5k BTC with a market order on BTC-E taking the price down to $102 is a mentally challenged trader who went full retard or just a poor guy who got his account hacked.

He lost MILLIONS to the lucky bastards that had bids down to $100 on BTC-E. Somebody six-folded his money in a couple of seconds.

14. Post 5059427 (copy this link) (by elasticband) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_12.06h):

fake market depth. the seller probably thought there was more, so just put in $100 in an attempt to beat the panic selling. Bots will have placed small "alert" bids, that when they are hit, their larger bids are pulled, this left a weak market with a large sell order crashing through it.

my answer to a friend who is questioning me regarding bitcoins current low price of close to $100.

btcponzi: What price is bitcoin at now, $100?

elasticband: About 425euro

btcponzi: Has Mt Gox started trading again?

elasticband What you mean empty gox? Nope, probably insolvent, a long term stain on money exchanging.

btcponzi: Has Mt Gox started trading again?

elasticband: What you mean empty gox? Nope, probably insolvent, a long term stain on money exchanging.

elasticband truth be told, empty gox have never halted trading in this whole debacle they have got themselves into, which i presume you have read about. The problem is they have halted all bitcoin withdraws due to certain wrong implementations and use of the bitcoin protocol. fiat withdraws have had problems forever, probably due to seizes and investigations with ongoing court cases. There are many other exchanges which have thrived without the problems empty gox continuously brings upon themselves, but always with bad news comes a certain level of uncertainty which effects more than just empty gox customers. sorry rant over.

btcponzi: I've kinda kept an ear open but last I heard they had halted trades & called bitcoin vulnerable to attack & unconfirmed trades

elasticband: they maybe halted trading for a few hours while trying to implement fixes and work around that they should have had in place a long time, but generally trading has been very much so live, just you can't actually withdraw anything, hence the possibilities of insolvency. There statement regarding the matter is typical of empty gox, where they try and shift blame and shroud things with mystery. There are and have been some certain technical issues with the bitcoin protocol that have been known and documented since 2011, this generally does not effect the generally user or holder or whatever. Most exchanges run custom code which runs on top of the bitcoin protocol, in some cases they run w whole custom wallet coded by themselves, empty gox appear to have been lazy with their implementation and have possibly been exploited, sad but true.

people have bought bitcoins lower thn $90 and have held, there is nothing to say all people will dump cheap gox coins. I do think we are likely to be pushed downward meet in the middle though.

Satoshi was hal finney.

I've always had Hal pinned close to the creation.

I do remember him actually saying he thought Satoshi was of Japanese background, something to do with him having spent much time with Japanese and there were signs that pointed Hal toward Satoshi actually being Japanese.

I always found that as strange as most people thought the opposite.

The limited buyer group tends to insure that auctions go below market.
Unless these coins are more valuable than others.
The bigger the buying audience, the better the auction pricing and closer to market.

The sheer price also reduces the market. 3000 at current prices is $1.8 million. And there's more than one package too so supply is fairly high. Some will likely go for not too far below market value but I expect a few to go for 40% or more discount. Though I wouldn't be shocked to see the whole lot go for really cheap.

this auction is a great entry point for large buyers without moving the market. try buying volume like this on an exchange without sending us to the moon.

I think the auction will end above market price but no where near where market price would be if that volume were bought on an exchange.

Didn't say i was desperate for cash, I said i could use the cash(more so than the BTC) at this point in time. someone with 100btc to sell is not really desperate for cash are they? ever seen me with a paid signature campaign, taking out BTC loans or begging for dust..... nope because i am not desperate.

I do enjoy reading some BTC antics during my day to day life and where better to get the drama than bitcoingossip forum Wink

edit: yes i got in early enough and am nowhere near a loss and still hodl more than i sodl.

If you are a bitcoin fanatic, but you spend your bitcoins through merchants that instantly dump them for fiat [and you don't instantly rebuy them because you are allin] helping to dump a bit more the price downwards to break the $266 support.

Is that bearish or bullish?

will add this as i posted it earlier today in another thread

I don't really think even the majority of sales via bitpay involve a bitcoin newbie purchasing bitcoin from a third party or exchange and then using this bitcoin to buy something.

example: http://www.mensocks.nl/ - these people accept bitcoin locally instore, mainly because they are friends with a local bitcoiner. I can almost tell you straight up that no person goes to a local bitcoin ATM machine pays 7% premium above market price, then takes these BTC and spends them on something which they could have just bought with their euro without having to pay 7% to buy BTC.

The only people who buy socks there using bitcoin are people who already owned bitcoin. No buy pressure only sell pressure.

Apart from retailers who ONLY accept bitcoin for their produce i find it hard to believe joe bloggs would go buy bitcoin and then use this to buy something he can normally buy with fiat. Bitpay is a tool for bitcoin holders to spend their bitcoin and push the price down, probably set out by rothschild types.

edit: another local example - https://www.thuisbezorgd.nl/en/. food delivery from almost every takeaway restaurant in the netherlands. via proxy almost all food delivery accept bitcoin. do the stores ever see a bitcoin...... nope.

would joe bloggs go buy some bitcoin to order his pizza when he can do it quicker and easier with cash or credit card. the only people i know spending BTC on https://www.thuisbezorgd.nl/en/ are people who hold BTC.

What if the production costs varies from people to poeple and also wether they are already producint the commodity or not?

And was BTC supposed to be a commodity?

see my last post on lst page for answer to first question.

Bitcoin was intended as a method of transfer between two parties without the need for a central authority.

You could easily test if they are fake/real, you simply have to market dump at least 4-5000BTC, we will see if the rest gets pulled after that.

indeed he has signed some lenghty contract witch outlines his sell positions, the later it goes the heavier the offloading can get. for now its marginal.

feeling lucky today?

No! I decided to buy back last night make a few BTC profit, around $314 on btc-e

Woke up 4hrs later at 5 or 6am and looked at my phone. saw the price, logged into my btc-e account and sold some BTC at the price the market was offereing($306) then went back to sleep. Woke up at 10am and the price was about $312 - $314 again. I only sold about 9 BTC and 2.5 of which had been earned from the recent drops. lesson learned, I am a bad enough day trader i should not try sleep trading again.......

edit: i was pretty much sleeping when i did this

being fae Scotland, I am partial to some Sheep innards

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the pudding-race!
Aboon them a' yet tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o'a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin was help to mend a mill
In time o'need,
While thro' your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An' cut you up wi' ready sleight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like ony ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin', rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an' strive:
Deil tak the hindmost! on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
Bethankit! hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad make her spew
Wi' perfect sconner,
Looks down wi' sneering, scornfu' view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckles as wither'd rash,
His spindle shank, a guid whip-lash;
His nieve a nit;
Thro' blody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll mak it whissle;
An' legs an' arms, an' hands will sned,
Like taps o' trissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer
Gie her a haggis!

Well, no movement in the market so I guess this was expected and the general assumption is that there is no way to easily dump these coins on an exchange, etc...

well there is really, it's simple, send them there and dump.... How the exchange reacts is a different story.

If you had 18k bitcoins you could place orders with fiat low down the order book, send the coins to exchanges and crash them nto the order books making sure to catch your own orders. chances of you getting caught or the exchange reversing the trades are high though

The Homeland Security agent’s theory was that Karpeles, as owner of Mt. Gox, held an enormous amount of Bitcoin. He used Silk Road to leverage that price and raise it, which it did by several hundred times over during the course of Silk Road’s lifespan. Bitcoin was worth around $2 at Silk Road's launch and hit as high as $290 by 2013.

What the hell do they mean by "leverage that price and raise it"?
Can anyone here come up with a scenario how keeping gox money at silk road could have raised the price?

the escrow service at silk road, people pay in 10 bitcoins, push the price up and give them 5 bitcoins to the vendor for the $$$ value of the transaction held in escrow

Address to a Haggis

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
'Bethankit' hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi perfect scunner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,
Like taps o thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
Gie her a Haggis

Disgusting enough that you people eat this shit, but neeps and tatties?  RLY?  Sounds like children's names for hag's nipples and titties.  How old are you Scots?

neaps are nae for me, tatties are okay but boring, hardly a vegetable... you need tatties with haggis on burns night(25th) though. To my knowledge the Scots people age spans from fetal age until elderly age. many die from being fat bastards due to eating many deep fried mars bars  Cheesy

In 1746, after the forces loyal to the Hanoverian government had defeated the Jacobites in the Battle of Culloden, King George II attempted to assimilate the Highlands into Great Britain by weakening Gaelic culture and the Scottish clan system,[4] though the oft-repeated claim that the Act of Proscription 1746 banned the Highland bagpipes is not substantiated by the text itself, nor by any record of any prosecutions under this act for playing or owning bagpipes.

Address to a Haggis

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
'Bethankit' hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi perfect scunner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,
Like taps o thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
Gie her a Haggis

My favorite one is the argument against adaption as a lot of people accepting bitcoins will bring more sell pressure on the currency as people will use their BTC to actually buy stuff  Shocked those cute fuzzy trolls  Kiss

Unless there is reason for normal none BTC holding joe blogs to go out and buy bitcoin to then buy his online product, then yes more BTC business accepting adoption just equates to more ways for BTC hodlers to cash out and a downward sell pressure. without creating a demand for really using BTC in the real world, we are just creating more sell pressure.

Compared to last year, i can dump bitcoins so many different places now.

i've still yet to met a person who has wanted something online, then used their bank account to buy BTC, then his btc to buy the product, when they could have just used his bank account and skipped a step. people want seamless easy transactions, BTC - BTC provides that, fiat - BTC - fiat does not.

saying that i am very much so long on bitcoin

Actually, the above is false. I have met people who bought bitcoin to buy drugs and tobacco, they probably would have just paid with their bank accounts if the option was available though

All in due time. Blue chips giving their stamp of approval and deciding that bitcoin protocol is stable and safe enough for them to adopt is a major reinforcement. The more bitcoin gets accepted the more people start looking at it the more use cases it will find. Buying stuff you don't want traced back to you, gambling (where illegal), tipping, paying in different currency, unbanked, transferring wealth outside of currency controlled states, and vendors offering discounts are all good enough of incentives for me to go fiat -> btc ->transaction.

i spend BTC all the time, but i don't buy BTC to spend it...... selling pressure.

I don't like tipping or the silly gambling sites, satoshidice just bloats the bloackchain with silly micro transactions based on greed.

the unbanked and worldwide transfer of value are the things that probably brought me into bitcoin. paying for day to day things with bitcoin works but probably is not where the real value of the protocol lays. Being able to distance your bank and your merchants with a decentralized transfer system has its advantages in this day and age, people are becoming more aware of the intrusive nature of some of these big companies and banks.

I Am a big bitcoin advocate, anyone who knows me IRL knows this, i don't get hyped by new merchant adoption though. I get hyped when bitcoin becomes more accessible and usable by the random joeblogs who does not even know what a bitcoin is.

check the support desk no ticket. check back at email and obviously the link contains a hidden phishing address, phew close call but all is safe.

Go to electrum to send my funds back over to LBTC, need them to have online adverts active, upon entering the password all i get is invalid.

Turns out i sent them to a wallet that was generated on the 6th of December on my run around laptop and i don't appear to know the password at the moment  Cool tried several combinations but nope..... must have been feeling smart that day and NO i did not right down the seed as i was actually generating the wallet whilst giving my friend a step by step run down on how to setup electrum, why i didn't follow my own instructions of remembering password and keeping a copy of the seed safe i will probably never live down  Embarrassed

who's the local brute force expert?

Sounds like a phishing attempt so hopefully you didn't click the link in the email.  If so, reset your password and have 2FA enabled.

Did you not read the whole story?

Try this fellow:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1171

He successfully brute forced a wallet for me.

Any public thread about your situation?
