Not everybody. Still have 40% fiat @ exchanges.
It's allways good to have money to buy dips.

You're losing shitload if you have 40% of your stash in fiat while price go to the moon, then it doesn't much help to buy in dips.

Losing?
No! Probably you don't get it. It's not real profit till you sell. If everyone is going to sell @ 10k, there won't be 10k, rather 1$.

Btw I have a lot more then 40% in fiat/gold/appartments. Bitcoin is just my high risk playmoney. It will never be lifechanging, because I have a better life then 99.99% on earth.

I dont put my future in some genious pyramide scheme. Everbody can change his life without the money of others.

Your belief that your fiat/gold/apartments/BTC holdings makes your life better than 99.99% of the people on earth is pretty indicative of your horizon and take on life, which makes me personally think your life quality is pretty shitty compared to most people with views on life less focused on holdings and money.

I think after dozens of copycat news saying China caused Bitcoin drop, people are now starting to understand news from China wasn't negative after all.

Long term: not necessarily negative. Short term: most definitely negative. We are still in short term, wouldn't you agree?

It's not funny man!!! It's a critical choice for us in Greece! Our all-knowing government (and the EU along with it) are at the brink of completely banning commuting!!!  Roll Eyes Shocked

How, huh? What?

I like to think I'm usually informed about European politics (EU uber alles! jk.), but what is this about? How can anyone "ban" commuting? Or are they cutting commuting subsidies?

Care to explain? (I have friends in Greece I could ask, but I'm too lazy to write Cheesy)

It's 1.63 per liter of gasoline here, or $8.44 per gallon of it! Do you need more explanation?

Blame the dinosaurs for not having more sex. Politicians can't magically conjure fossile fuel, it's a finite resource unfortunately.

It amazes me how difficult some people find it in life to give credit where it is due. I guess it's just a lot of embarrassment kicking in now for the bulls who did nothing but mock bears for the past 2 months for attempting to be rational about the situation we were currently in. If anything this recent rally has taught me who in this thread is the day dreamers, the shit talkers and those who are blatantly blind based on their investment. Bitcoin does attract a strange group of folk, I must say.

I'll mock bears trolls all the time. I am writing here as bull yet this crash caught me 100% in fiat except btc I have invested in some stuff where I couldn't sell, and I made nice profit today, both in btc and in dollars. So I am certainly not buy and hold type though extremely bullish for 2014.

But those 20 posts "Bitcoin is dead", "Ponzi is done" etc, etc bears as well as those trolls who post crap just to cause people to turn their minds and help them fill their bids will always get it from me.

And Rpietila will get it specially as one of the biggest manipulators and idiots here.

Getting 'caught' 100% in fiat as such a raging bull as yourself sound like a canary in the bullshitmine.

I think you will be disappointed.

Shorter term there's a lot of support at 500 so a bounce from that level seems probable.

Longer term I think there is a chance that 350 will be visited but 300 would require something which I don't have knowledge of.

Add +10% for Gox.

So you believe we will slide back towards 500 short term?

he is the guy who claims that he is a Pro trader and he can predict Bitcoin moves, the thing about bitcoin is that we can only speculate because the movements are somehow unpredictable.

when we are speculating with the charts and movements some big bag holder can just drop a shit load of coins bringing the price to the lowers lows, or another scenario is someone buying 20K coins at once and bring us to $1500 in one hour.... this what bitcoin is.... don't trade based on what we say here and don't get emotional to peoples Ideas....

Would a 20k buy bring the price to $1500?

depends where you look, If I look to bitstamps order book 20K will brings us over &1300 and looking to gox order book 20K will bring us a bit over $1100

20k spread across all markets is what you should be looking at.

Also, order book wouldn't stay static if someone started such a buying spree? Anyways, I get your point  Smiley

if you want to bring the price up where would you buy ?

I would buy at gox, because trying to bring the price over 1300 at bitstamp will be somehow a failure, and I mean doing that by running a market order.... even if you would put some buying walls t prevent the price from droping people will simply eat the walls how ? most people will see the chance of getting their cash out of gox by selling their coins at stamp and your try will be worthless......

so I think you do not need to spread the cash, all you need is to push the price at gox and the market will follow (except china for now ...)

If you buy you don't want to bring the price up! You want the price to stay the same as much as possible to avoid slippage. People that buy to bring the price up or sell to bring the price down in an attempt to influence the market are fucking retarded.

If done right it could bring the panic or the exuberance to critical mass, making it accelerate on its own. I'm sure it's happened and some people have made a killing this way.

I've given up trying to figure out what is doing what.  Everything seems to be a complete crap shoot these days.

I trade on BTC-e and during this week I have seen some moves originating there. It also has the largest volume.

I've been telling people about this but there's a lot of Stamp fans who idk why choose to ignore BTC-e.

I'm pretty sure we're not anymore on the all-exchanges-following-one paradigm.

You will eventually get burned if you convince yourself all moves have to come from one place.

What about the price difference between Gox and BTCChina? Does the $100 reflect the cost/risk of arbitrage trade?

Seems to me there is developing a consensus in the market that 1BTC is AT LEAST worth something like $550. All the new people coming in have in the back of their heads that price has been +$1000 and with the momentum and press Bitcoin has now, it is just common sense that this is a good price. Which can be seen in buying pressure whenever we move down below 600. IMHO.

if you knew about bitcoin when it was 1000 than sure 550-600 is really cheap, if you knew about bitcoin when it was $10 and if you were present on the crashes we had than 500-650 still looks optimistic, although I have to point out that any move you do now is really risky because bitcoin by nature is unpredictable.

I know that I risk so much but I make sure that I wont regret my action if the price will start climbing so fast.... most of the time I am all BTC but when I have the sense of the price going down I sell 50% and open limit orders and wait, if the price start climbing back my strategy is to cash out.

since I invested in bitcoin, I cashed out less than 15% of my holdings, I always think about cashing out some of my profits but I always buy back because at the moment I don't really need that cash...

When comparing how the price looks for a person knowing bitcoin when it was at $10 with a person getting to know it the last months, you have to take into account how enormous Bitcoins progress towards adaption has been. At $10 it was basically just a bet for the pure visionaries, totally unproven in all aspects but the theoretical. At $1000 we were dealing with something that just might change the concept of money as we know it. Since then the price has halved, and apart from the China spectacle, the good news keep rolling in.

Personally I am fully accepting towards the prospect of losing my entire Bitcoin investment, but I will not risk the regret of not acting on and taking the chance on something that resonates completely with me. I have a strong feeling Bitcoin will change the world. If it doesn't, I will go on with a smile on my face, feeling good that i did what i believed to be right.  Smiley

I have sold at 670, two days ago. Since then, the price went up to 720, went down to 550 and kept fluctuating so I can say that I do know the feeling, even though I'm in this thing for only 2-3 weeks now. Now, the itch and anxiety have faded, and I'm just watching and waiting for the perfect moment to jump back in, but not before we get to another low. Be patient and have some sort of a plan, any plan; that will help drive the anxiety away.

In it for 2-3 weeks.. Does that mean you bought in at +$1000?

bitcoin was a revolution since day one, sure we achieved allot this year and next year will see even a bigger boom, Bitcoin investment will pay out long term no matter when you buy, but being on the speculation sub-forum means that you want to catch the ups and downs, otherwise you would just buy and HODL    Grin

We will go below the long-term exponential trend, which is now at $450, and spend a long time there.

Although the trend rises fast (double every 99 days), I have a full conviction that we will go below $500 again, likely $400, unlikely $300.

Of course the capitulation can only come after "everybody" has bought back in, so please do as you wish Smiley I am prepared to wait until March. If it happens next week I am all good, but then the price will again go up, and there will be yet another crash later, before we resume uptrend.

When Einstein explained the theory of relativity, it wasn't that the older physicists eventually came to realize that he was right.  What happened instead is that they all died, leaving behind only the younger ones who were less blind to truth.

True!!!

I have 3 btc holdings.
1: Mining -> steadily increasing -> nothing sold and won't sell anything
2. Speculation -> Selling high, buying low -> can afford to lose all
3. Hodling -> paper wallet -> won't sell anything below 10000$, then start partially selling (btc amount % decrease, so I'll ever hodl some amount, even if btc reaches 1 billion dollars)

I'm still convinced that if nobody used btc to buy drugs, pizzas or anything else, we wouldn't be here. Only hodling doesn't help.
It work probably for the small hodler with 0.01 btc, because he doesn't have a significant influence on the market. These people (or more likely kids) are dreaming of cars and girls ... they are just scumbugs trying to profit without doing anything. Like parasites.

Rpietila seems a reputable in his views.
I think we all should read his writings, learn him, try to figure out his mood and based on this, sell or buy coins.
The price will go quite low if we can trust him - usually we can. He made his bearish call correctly last time while all were laughing at his face, spitting on him and considering him as slain of God, the man of sorrows, the friend of pains etc.

After all, he made his trades and tons of money. Now those of you who do not follow his paths right now will loose as the price eventually crashes.
He is making money so why shouldn't I do it with him? I hope you guys here are also in the same boat with me. It is not that difficult to turn from bull to bear. I did it after I found Rpietila did it also.  Cool

How many bitcoins did Rpietila pay you to write this crap up? Rpietila made money because he's been into bitcoin for quite a while. Hard to not make tons of money during the past year unless you're an idiotic permabear.

Bulls are not buying significiantly more coins - so the only way to get more demand for the coins is the changing behaviour of bears.
The bears will not change => BTC will crash and the bears change their views.
In my opinion, it is idiotic to be permanent bull. Rpietila has sold his bitcoin holdings (a part of it or even the whole position) so it is smart to convince him to rebuy the coins even higher prices - I think you are not going to succeed.
I am following the money so I need to follow Rpieitila's movements and trades if I can learn also and make some real cash in the side.

Rpietila, you can donate some coins in case you even have them at these levels any left...  Wink

When decising whether to sell or not - just calculate the probabilities. For example, if you give a probability for crash 20 % - then simply sell 20 % of BTC-holdings.
If you give a probability of 50 % for crash, then sell 50 % of your stash and by this way actively manage your BTC-holdings.
When you give a probability for rise 20 %, then buy with 20 % of your disposal cash.

By this way, you will be richer than the average BTC-holder. Risto is trading because he is beating the markets. This is why I rather follow him than anyone of you who just advice "hold hold hold no matter if it crashes tomorrow - just hold like an idiot".

No, if it crashes tomorrow with 100 % - I will sell 100 % of them right now - give me even one reason why I shouldn't do this?
I gave 90 % probability for drop and sold 90 % of my BTC-holdings and I will rebuy them with discounted prices. If I am not able to do that, I am still happy with the dollars that I made with BitCoins. Then I will leave the stage with a handful of cash and only 10 % on the initial BTC-holdings.

In any case, buying high and selling low is not advisable!

In my socialist country, tax deduction for losses actually outweigh profit on gains after tax. Therefore I always buy high and sell low.

Oooopsie!!! You got me there!!  Cheesy Wink
Which country might that be?

Norway. And I might have been exaggerating just a tiny bit  Wink

If my sad experience is any guide, there will first be an explosion upwards, so that everyone will start buying into it, followed by a dump and a lot of panic-selling...

Well he's broken that promise if so. He accurately predicted the fall. So did walsoraj. He also invited us to "JOIN THE BEARS," the first time it hit 900. Of course anyone who did so would have missed the run up to 1200, though still could have bought back in and increased their position true if they were patient.

I don't blame Risto for his predictions.  He was basing them on a log-linear line in the growth adoption curve.  He may very well be readjusting that because it appears we are on a much faster growth curve as seen on these charts:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=322058.msg4227521#msg4227521

I'm guessing the dynamics will be similar to that, but more because of the manipulation of the market. I suspect there are big players that will benefit from running the price up and down for a while, accumulating positions, shaking out weak hands, before allowing the next big jump up. Just a hunch, and I am almost exclusively a long-term holder.

I agree that he is totally caught up in is ego, but he does have mental issues doesn't he?

OK whoever asked me when I would admit I was wrong, this is it. The May patterning seems clearly broken. Looks like I've been badly burnt on the 40% part of the 60/40 position I left myself in. I give up with TA and bit coin - the exchange system is too decentralized now for that.

Hence he would then sell 'still' high, buy back at 750 and get an extra 7 or 8 coins?!

Yeah right. Well let's see how long it lasts. The breaks just seem to give out after a couple of uses on the btc train.

Don't be so jumpy. Do you believe Bitcoin has a future in the wide world? It's the most important question by far, because if it does then we really are extremely Lucky to be investors now.

edit: Coinbase then, but same principle applies.

ahh ok. but still, wouldnt coinbase or bitpay 'play' a little with the bitcoins they get instead of dumping it all on the market? :/

There is gonna be math science behind coinbase and bitpay's business plan regarding risk management getting rid of their coins. Probably gonna take higher margins during times of high volatility etc.

Edit. So absolutely no gambling/playing ofcourse.

"Much as a bank like Goldman Sachs runs software to track price fluctuations as it juggles billions of dollars, Coinbase uses its hedging software to track all of the bitcoins it manages, deciding when to buy and sell bitcoins and adjust its exchange rate in an effort to minimize risk.

Goldman, where Coinbase’s Ehrsam previously worked, uses its software in an effort to make highly profitable trades, and Coinbase merely uses its system to protect its own position. But the inner-workings of the software are similar. “It’s algorithmic trading,” says Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. “It hedges that exchange rate risk in the background, every day.”

Crazy to follow Bitcoin at the moment. So many positive things happening, and at the same time some possible big negatives looming in the close horizon. It seems very likely that BTC will be shut down in China, and the FBI coins will have an impact if they are dumped on the exchanges. The Overstock news feels so big. It will change a lot of people's perception about Bitcoin. Short term I find it impossible to say what will happen. Will we have a correction, or have we reached critical mass momentum wise, and just take shit over from here? This is a United States Charity that is setup to help our wounded military.  I know some of the world hates us and hates our military but this is a great cause because some of our soldiers have no other choice to better themselves then go to the military, I live in a state that this is the case.

I currently work in a position that helps disabled find/maintain jobs, and right now a lot of them are young ex soldiers.

This is a GREAT cause and something already I donate to in fiat.  Now with Overstock I can support them with BTC.

You are doing good things my friend. But what a SHIT country the US has turned into. Seducing young people to join the army with hollywood-like imager, running commercials on TV. Then sending them out in the world to create misery and suffering beyond measure. I've been here since before $1.  You're not going to convince me by telling me to look at the charts.  I saw them as they happened.  If you want to gamble, be my guest.  But if you advertise it as a sure thing, I will call you out.

Lets revisit this and see who is right . To qoute me Selling now at $950  with re-buy set at $760 (-20%)

Meaning even though Im bullish I recognize $760 WILL be revisited before going back up. Increasing my BTC holding 20%, Lets revisit this in a Month (if not sooner) and see how it plays out shall we.

I'm not disagreeing that it might go down.  I'm disagreeing that it will go down with 100% certainty.  Giving it a month won't prove anything about my position no matter what happens.

Please design a scenario in which your position will be proven false.

My position is that nobody can predict the future with 100% certainty.  If you disagree, you need to prove that someone can predict the future with 100% certainty.  Good luck.

This! Plain and simple. You might be a master in econometrics or having a PhD degree in economics. It's irrelevant. There's no 100% possibility of predicting the next phase of a DCS. And there's proof. For all you noobs out there, please take some time to read this article here:

If you need proof to realize that the future cannot be 100% predicted, you are just plain stupid imho.

I'm not saying anything about myself. I simply stated I miss the days when this topic didn't contain a bunch of jr. Members running their mouths about "sources" and other meaningless bullshit. I ordered my BFL single Sept 2012 at $13 a bitcoin. I've never seen $13 again. Bought coins at $30 because I was waiting for $5, I've never seen $30 again. Now we are at $900, spread FUD, "news" and sources all you want people. You're only fooling yourself if you think we are not in this for the long haul.

So basically you are saying that every belief, news or statement that is remotely bearish is meaningless bullshit and FUD. I happen to believe we are going to the moon myself, but the fact that we have not seen $13 or $30 again isn't exactly proof that we will have never ending growth. Truth is that there are things that can fuck Bitcoin up, both short term and long term. The only thing that can fuck up your life though, is hate, so stop hating on the juniors!  Wink

I'm following the japanese 2ch thread pretty regularly, and even though google translate creates pretty weird results from japanese, I feel this coin has a future now. Some positive points:

- Number of miners is increasing steadily, japanese adoption is speeding up. (Most use CPU, so net hash is still low. 2chpool has gone from around 100 to almost 300 miners in a few days)

- Android wallet has just been released

- They are working on online wallet solutions

- Trade is happening on the monatrade site, even though volume is still low

To sum up, I am happy to be holding a fair amount of MONA  Smiley

get out, don't you have a cave called alternative cryptocurrency? (sub-forum)stay there unless you will talk about bitcoin

Sorry, posted in wrong thread.. Embarrassed

The price might go down now, but it's not worth it. It will still take a while for the feds to sell, in the meantime the price will go back up, and then yo-yo. But really the people who will buy these coins aren't going to be dumping them on the market. They are buying to keep the supply controlled and the price high. :-)

It doesn't matter when they do it. Right now is when we have the knowledge that they will do it. Although there is some question about how much. It will definitely be 29,655BTC, but it could possibly be as much as 144,336BTC.

It's getting priced in right now.

It's being auctioned, this is not the reason for current movement.

New Knowledge is always a reason for current movement.

It clearly is not. You claiming this proves your ignorance.

Looks like a downtrend to me, also looking at forum posts/threads the consensus was we would revisit 600-700 by now.

Meanwhile, China is waking up and they are buying.

Good news keep pouring in on a daily basis, still the market is paralyzed in waiting for China mode. I feel strongly that we are at a plateau that will never again be revisited, and I have now put everything I am able to into Bitcoins. Does anyone else share this feeling of impending boom?

Dammit when will we see the 700s again. Everyone knows that this is the fair value of bitcoin at the moment, yet we remain in the 800s.

Source?

Everyone - obviously.....

I wouldn´t put my bids over 500$. More likely 2-300$

Cool story bro.

This week has demonstrated how one man, who owns a badly run exchange but has a good PR team, can do massive damage to BTC.

Massive damage? I know this is spec forum, but the price remains one of the least important things. It is undeniable, bitcoin is the future.

My point, if you read back 6 or 8 pages (which I wouldn't inflict on you), is that BTC has lousy PR, while Gox is pretty canny at spinning news in their favour.  The story should've been Gox's incompetency but instead it became a flaw with BTC.

BTC may be the future but the infrastructure needs improving, fixing etc.  And the lessons from this week are the Bitcoin Foundation needs to improve its marketing and PR and deal with criticism head on, swiftly and aggressively.

So you are saying that a good PR team means almost non existant communication, and then hurting the very market they are in with lies, which in turn destroy the company's last shred of credibility? Wow.
