But interesting because it gave me the chance to rebuy the coins I foolishly sold at 123.0 yesterday. Still a small loss after fees, but almost nothing.

The fact that the dumper picked the slowest time of the week for bitcoin, screams manipulation. All the bulls that want to hold up the price, but are still looking for cheap coins, aren't around right now, which is why the slow rebound.
The weekend dip is back, meaning manipulation is overpowering users/speculators.
So you reckon there will be a rally/rebound when the US wakes up? I'm increasingly pessimistic about worthwhile rebounds happening. It's my impression that since the consensus has become more overwhelming that it will drop allot farther, rebounds are getting smaller, even when the US is awake.
I don't know about a rebound. This seems like self fulfilling prophecy to me. I almost sold last week, just some of mine, but decided just to hold and buy more if we dip down to the 50 range. That, to me, is the absolute bottom, but anything can happen with Bitcoin. Good news can come out on the fall down (e.g. - pay pal becomes a BTC exchange) and we continue the ascent upwards. Not saying that will happen though!
It is kind of a weird realization, that you only "lose" when you sell. I have a loose plan to accrue so many coins and I could have been there had I traded in and out, but I didn't want to risk missing a move. Well, it will cost me more in the end, yes, but if I still end up with what I want (a very very small amount btw), what is the difference? (I guess I will have less money for vacation.
)
Anyway, I think as the infrastructure is built for BTC, we will see transparent adoption AND "hoarding" as a savings account of sorts. We already saw some of the second and once that first part starts happening as well, then that is the acceptance part that we need, as hey, we are right now an internet thing.
Oh well. I bought at 93 and sold around bitstamp's rebound top of 95.2, and am now kicking myself
It is difficult to predict tops and bottoms so you might feel happy in few minutes. Should remove feelings from trading.

Forums will not make you accept the right decision. They are usefull if you are manipulator or can 100% think out of your thoughts not influenced by others, which no weak hand can. So, with forums you will only be even more confused and you will do unrational decisions without plan.

I'm not sure, if I understand, what you are saying. 100 to almost 110 or to 120
is a very significant difference and depending on range and walls, this difference could be even bigger:
There is $ 5.75M down till 50 or bids for 87.65k Bitcoin. And there are roughly 90k Bitcoin till 250, but for a total amount of around $ 12M. So could you buy all coins up to 250 with the bids down to 50? Of course not, those $ 5.75M only allow you to buy coins up to around 135.
True, I only argued that never happen that all bids would move higher - there would potentialy be new hidden money (not placed on bids till now).

i would do that. Some people think that if someone invested in bitcoins he is going to keep them. There is no reason for them to do this. I bet they prefer to keep their dollars.
I meant bids not asks. Yes, good point - those sharks buying now are not "buy and forget about it" - they have a plan (at least they think they have it).

I expect the big dump of the day to have already happened ($98ish to $88ish), but that's kind hard to predict. The overall trend is obviously down, but predicting how fast that will happen is just a gamble.

I think we could be about to see a REAL price dislocation in the coming days. Something wierd is going on.

Are they trying to get BitStamp to explode up when the selling there stops? And then folks react on Gox, and so on?
(Sort of like creating a coiled spring on BitStamp. Then they sell their coins higher on Gox at a later time (as the rally continues).

What it gets them is fiat in their bank not a Gox IOU ...
Perhaps they were tying to create a bit of panic selling on Gox by slamming Bitstamp, and doing it the other way round. ie selling coins on Bitstamp and then buying on Gox after. Not a problem if you already own a bunch. And has the same net effect of moving out of Gox.
Didn't really work though in terms of panic. Just cost them more in slippage

Exactly my thinking... why would someone sell on stamp for $83 instead at gox for 94$ (13% lower). There is some strange info we don't know yet about.

I remember the wall observer threads when the market was bubbling. Zoomed out, the buying wall looked like a tsunami, ready to overflood the gradual upward curve of the selling wall. Some made drawings of surf boarders on the buying waves, and on the selling wall, drawed people fleeing from the wave etc.
Since the crash I've seen the inverse, now the selling wall looks like a wave, sometimes tsunami, ready to overflow the gradual upward curve of the buying wall.

I'm saying it could be greater than it currently if arbitrageurs could withdraw their USD from Gox to buy at Bitstamp to better equalize the price diffference.
Yes, but if this would be possible the difference would get lower and lower (probably gox going down to bitstamp level). Because of Bitfinex Bitstamp is sometimes so unrational (like 400 buys now).

Someone invested a lot of money steadily maintaining the price while accumulating a lot of coins during July and August.
They're not going to let a couple of smallish whale dumps seriously decrease the value of their hoarded stash.
Hence my earlier post of the picture of the big whale eating the smaller whale. You know? The one following the pictures of a beartrap and a bear shorn like a sheep.
No one is stronger than market, if the market really wants to go down, it will go down. Even whales with lots of money can get fiatless or just unable to deposit much sooner than they expect (and they went pretty far already).

We're transitioning into the post-Gox era. There is some worry and confusion on where one can safely trade and store bitcoin which is reflected in the lower volume. The risk to smaller traders isn't necessarily a quick price change to their detriment, but rather the risk of not being able to access their coins/fiat at any given moment Also, the the increase in ways to buy and spend coin that aren't Gox and other trading services is increasing as well which is reflected in the lower volume.
My basis for the above statement is that the reputation and positive press, which always seemed to be one of the best indicator of prices before, still feel pretty positive to me.
There are also some major developments for BTC coming down the pipeline. These facts don't seem to be represented in the volume on the current main exchanges, thus my hypothesis.

Unfortunately there is nothing to watch. Ask sums is constantly being push back to 50k. Every time it goes over; market orders fix that. And whenever it goes under... the price recedes back under 140 and they pop up again.
Bid sum is also pretty stable in the 12-14m range. (Last 4 days all about $1.35m, 50k asks)
Something has to give. Unless bitcoin market is going back in to dormancy. Thats not any fun!

If Gox withdrawals aren't fixed Gox will become irrelevant at some point and Bitstamp will be leading the price. We already see market depth increasing fast at Bitstamp; in just one week bid depth increased from 1.5M to 2.3M. Within 1-2 months from now it will overtake MtGox and these withdrawal problems will no longer distort the market. Only the fiat bag holders on MtGox will keep on insisting that this is a disaster for bitcoin in the hopes of crashing the price so they can buy their way out of Gox.
The other option is that Gox fixes their shit, and in that case coins will flow back to Gox but I don't believe we'll see any kind of crash then either.

I really don't get the guys who pile their sell orders on $900. If you think it won't break ATH, just spread your asks below $900. If you think it will break ATH, just pull the ask and let the price slide upwards.
Really, placing an ask on ATH is something I will never understand, but people does that a lot. Never understood the logic in it unless its pure manipulation (inducing the market to think that the resistance on ATH is too high so the price can just go down).
Maybe it's for the spring effect? Let's say you have 2k placed at 900, but also have money to buy it from yourself in another account, you buy it and cause euphoria, you still have 2k BTC minus the fee and now it's rising sharply in value.
You don't need money in another account. You can buy your own wall, exchanges like fees.

I'm getting most of my transactions "malleated" right now, so what? The original transactions never confirm, but the "malleated" ones do and they are registered correctly by Bitcoin-QT. You just see all your transactions twice, one is confirmed and the other will never be, so what? Balance is displayed correctly by QT because the standard implementation handles correctly malleated transactions.

* Many of Huobi's customers are still trading even though it is 4:00 am there. Usually they are all asleep at this time.
* Arbitrage seems to be working again. For example Bitstamp and Huobi are again moving together, at the apparent rate 6.50 CNY = 1 USD. (The official exchange rate is 6.09 or so.)
* Whatever bitcoin gurus may say, the crash cannot have had a positive effect on the average investor. Since yesterday there must have been more people cashing out and leaving the open market than entering it, all over the world. If that is true, today there must be less money in the exchanges, but still the same number of bitcoins. Lower prices is almost a mathematical conclusion.

Bit annoyed with BFX. I had a limit order at 529 that went unfilled on the spike down to 514 on Bitstamp.
The BFX service discussion thread says that this is because market orders on BSP are not made available to the BFX order book. Only market orders on BFX are made available to BSP.
I'm not convinced this is the reason (although I have to admit it has been a long time since I have seen one of my limit orders execute on BSP). It might be another step to "protect the lenders" on BFX along with dropping max leverage to 1:2.5
I am not sure if they still use bitstamp, they have quite a lot of volume and large orderbook themself. Can't find the routing option also for trading and no bitstamp section on fees page anymore.

Start dumping even 50k coins and most of the buy orders will get pulled to see how low will the dump go. 1mil+ coins will easily get the price back into cents and most of the fiat will permanently leave the exchanges because no one will know if there will be another wave of 1mil coin dumps.
Only thing that keeps people calm at the moment is that this hasn't happened yet.

They obviously do not want to sell and I am betting they are using a pretty high amount of margin to execute it. The fact that weak hands are actually selling because of it is sad.
I would disagree that they don't want to sell. They have put the wall up several times over a few days; at this point anyone that wants to buy a lot of bitcoin would have seen that wall pop up and can expect it to pop up again a few times a day, and they will be able to buy a lot instantly without any slippage. This guy is just advertising his wall, waiting for someone to buy. Putting that wall up so often would be idiotic if they don't want to sell because if the price is undervalued, someone is going to buy a few thousand instantly and that wall guy will lose a ton of money.
Thx for writing this instead of me. He definitely is not doing this to buy cheap coins below the wall.

Huobi has not modified their homepage or posted new notices for the last 12 days. The homepage still shows their prepaid cards (火币 点卡充值) as the only deposit method. I could not fiind Huobi's client blog, it would be interesting to see what is there. Will they gox their clients without prior warning?
Over the weekend I poked abit into OKCoin's blog and their reddit thread. Their "recharge code" system based on (two) private brokers seemed to be working, not clear how effectively; but in the end OKCoin said that they would not post any more public announcements about that system in order to not perturb the market. You are talking about the next bubble like it's a foregone conclusion whereas I am looking at a long term support that has been tested far too frequently of late that is currently hovering just $40 below spot.

Crashing into the low 500s by this time next week. The pressure seems to be more towards the downside and we all know that there is bad news coming -- Bitfinex isn't prepared for the 21st, Lawsky... even if it turns out to be good news... will be confusing enough to seem like bad news initially, China seems bored, and the degree of market manipulation has seemed to intensify as of late. Sprinkle a little FUD on top of this along with the larger batch of Silk Road coins strung around the market's next like an albatross (and the fact that we had a bump following not even really knowing what the bid price was on the smaller batch bitcoin auction... we just extrapolated out our backsides). Oh yes, and add in the fact that even with great news we can't seem to break towards the upside... if we are going anywhere near term it is down.
By the way, I am generally positive for our long term and even 6 months out prospects. But, next couple weeks look like they'll be tough going.

Cool story bro. Hey, I'm not saying it will be the end of days or anything, but I think we are about to get a buying opportunity... it might be the last good one. It's up to you to decide whether the glass is half empty or half full, but we both know in the very short-term (next week or so) downside odds are greater than upside odds. Think about the volume for instance... it says two things -- (1) nobody is all that excited to buy right now; and (2) smarter money is trying to unwind their positions without having everybody race out of the auditorium. Also, think about the good news we've received lately... it has had zero effect. By contrast, even the weak FUD piece by the European Central Bank caused a 4 to 5% drop. Now, we have a market situation with Bitfinex that could go south very quickly and we know the regulators will have harsh sounding cautions that won't amount to anything in practical effect (it'll be a green light... good news... that will sound like a red light).
So, I sold my (pretty modest) stash of 12 coins (I am relatively poor but not terribly so) this morning. I am waiting until sometime mid next week to re-enter. You can cheerlead all you want, but have fun losing money doing that (unless you are just hodling very long-term in which point it is probably irrelevant). Thanks, have a nice day.

At this current moment the upward potential by far outweighs the chance of buying in a tiny bit cheaper along with the chance of missing out and/or having to panic buy back in at a higher price.
Also you don't lose money unless you sell at a loss, by holding in a small temporary downwards movement you don't lose anything.
We just broke 2 year bullish trend, have no buying power visible and also good news don't effect the price at all. We didn't have a bad news for a long time, we forgot the feeling...
If anyone sold short term (weeks) be careful for high up volume, otherwise not so so risky. There won't be moon here next week.

1) Sellers dumped through 3600 bids. Bids refilled right near bid/ask spread (suggesting the bidder wants them filled)
2) Sellers dumped through 3600 bids again. Bids refilled again.
3) Ask walls placed 80-100 CNY above spread (suggesting the seller does not want them filled)
One side is very obviously accumulating. The other side may just be trying to manipulate price down. In fact, they may be one and the same party, if this bidder is serious about getting filled.
These could be dumps in their own walls to prove strength of the 3600 level. Then they set 3700 asks to limit short term growth and after some time upward hammer can follow when asks are either pulled or again bought by the owner.

I am 95% most of the 3500 BTC between $590-$600 is fake on Stamp. Someone is trying to cap the price over the weekend.

So just gambling, not safe investment comparing to at least BTC (no saying BTC is safe). For coding and servers you don't need $15M, just a crowd of sheep to believe it and deliver precious BTC. This should be project for VC not BTC small sheeps.

Was probably not a good idea, even though I made some profit.

Looked like a single entity to me as well, only question is: why? Bitfinex was completely unusable for a while and I actually shorted with 10 BTC @ 440 by mistake instead of selling some coins (I didn't think my first order had gone through). Lucky for me I got to close it below 440
Actually there is not much difference between selling and shorting when they changed if you have BTC you can margin sell them without need to take BTC swaps - so not much difference if you want short term trade.

No. We made over 90% of our purchase of all of our BTC holdings before September of last year. Being end goal BTC at 0 is low probability, cause they were probably early in the game and understand the things well, this would be possible only in the case if someone is doing this who doesn't want BTC to succeed (banks, gvt...). Or if these coins are stolen and they really have xxx.000 BTC (but probably exchanges would get them). But all this killing BTC in imo less than 10% chance.

You are forgeting that they will probably do it once again and try for BTC to become very succesfull, cause they will have the power. But there is the question of loss of confidence. If they want this cash cow to remain profitable in the coming years (and they absolutely do want this) then a dip into $100s isn't exactly good for PR. Besides they'll have to risk a lot more to get there.
I'm not saying 100 is the plan, but that if they planned this, it is simple to do. When price will be at 1000 few months later, x00 won't matter anymore, just the next moon and fresh money to be milked again. But I agree that such low price is not good for PR.

well, I can tell you that someone is placing those asks on stamp like a pro, and bitfinex guys have a history of dumping those margin calls through some advance non automatic procedures, like placing them as asks when and where they find it suitable.

True. News hasn't seemed to effect the price much lately, and perhaps you are right that my expectations are unrealistic.
But I think that the ETF will be a little different in that it opens a door for a different kind of investor to get involved with BTC and there are millions of dollars that could very easily be thrown into BTC in a matter of days or weeks.
Why you think so? Others said so about ETF right... ? Look at
my post about ETF few days ago. ETF could bring higher prices, but not because of ETC, but because of usage, performance and traction of BTC. ETF can also bring even lower prices if Bitcoin is not doing well (all these millions can short it).

Yes, there is no manipulation of the market. The nature of the crypto markets is this. You got enough cash, then you can do with the market whatever you have skills for.
Otherwise who would put a 94 BTC buy order at 329.23 and top it up with a 100 BTC sell order at 331.9. It's just the way this market works.

There is a big possibility that he is verified only at Bitstamp (in instance I am verified only at stamp), the other possibility is him selling for the available 5K
BTC and watching if anyone is prepared to buy his stash which eventually failed, and I think he did remove that Bid wall to not cause more panic.... after all, I think he still interested in selling even more, we will see how things develop when more bids build up.
There is also the possibility that the 5k wall was his, and that he sold into it to trigger the panic, and then put the wall to lock lower prices while he is rebuying.
Almost surely the case...
