"I am just going outside and may be some time."

Oooh, good one.

Annecdote time: I told my gf about that quote and its context a while ago, and she got really sad about it.

Now, I sometimes just casually drop the line "I'm quickly going to do some groceries, it may be some time", and her eyes almost water up when I say that Cheesy

(yes, I'm a psycho)

didnt really know about this story, really good read, thanks both for sharing

:
Quote
In 1911-1912 a British team led by Robert Falcon Scott attempted to be the first humans to reach the South Pole, the most southerly point on Earth situated on the Antarctic continent. They did in fact reach the Pole (on 17 January 1912), but discovered that the Norwegian explorer Amundsen had beaten them to it. The demoralized five-man British team then began the 895-mile (1,440 km) trek back to their base.

They never made it.

Hampered by worsening weather, poor provisioning, injury and frostbite, the team were destined to die en route. Edgar Evans was the first to die (17 February 1912), apparently as the result of a blow to his head when falling into a crevasse. The four remaining men struggled on, slowed by fierce blizzard conditions. And Oates' severely frostbitten and gangrenous feet and general weakness (possibly aggravated by an old war wound) began to hold them back further, so that they could not keep up the daily distances needed to reach provisions before their rations were exhausted. On 15 March Oates told the others that he could not continue, suggesting that they leave him in his sleeping-bag and go on without him. They refused. The following night, according to Scott's diary entry, in the early morning of 16 March 1912, Oates said to his colleagues: "I am just going outside and may be some time." Then, without going through the painful exertion of putting on his boots, he stepped outside into a raging blizzard and temperatures of -40.0 °C (-40 °F) to face certain death.

Oates' self-sacrifice did not save his colleagues from a similar fate. Scott, Wilson and Bowers died nine days later, eleven miles short of their next pre-laid food depot that could have saved their lives.

Oates died a bachelor the day before his 32nd birthday, probably still unaware that he had fathered a child with an 11-year-old Scottish girl when he was about 20, a fact that emerged many years later.

His memorable phrase lives on in the English-speaking world both as among the most famous of last words and as the epitome of heroic understatement and allusion.

Oates' words are used to be imprinted on every British school childs mind ... well those that paid attention anyway.. and was very much in keeping with the stiff upper lip mentality that used to be very much a part of UK culture... tis a dying mentality... for better and for worse.

I eat oat for breakfast, now tell me how this guy is relevant to this.

I am somehow not convinced. We are hovering very closely to $366, and I do believe if someone is dumping stolen coins, there are much more than what we've seen.

Mine is...well it's not really anything but about 0.30 btc total. I don't think I will be earning any serious amount of money with this, but this is the amount I am willing to risk, or rather, that I can afford to lose.

traders always say to only play with like %10 of your holdings, its just not wise to think you can call tops and bottoms, that kind of thinking will have you go all out on a bounce that turns out to be trend reversal
0.30 btc is about that much yeah, 10% of my holdings. I've been here since late Apr 2011, but unlike a lot of people I failed to amass large amounts of bitcoins, even though back then I had upwards of 100, a year later I had ten times as much litecoins, past tense yes.

ya its alot easier to say buy and hold then actually do it

even me with a very bullish outlook have sold spent wasted a gr8 many coins along the way... i can't complain tho  Tongue
Thats the thing, I didn't really invest. Everything I had started off with mining, unlike other people who already had $10k or $1k to buy btc then, I had $0. Essentially, I profited even if a little, without any investment. Even the electricity I expended in obtaining bitcoins was fully paid.

I use a small percentage of my stash. I've managed to trade up from BTC6 to BTC20 since June. Thanks, Litecoin. Good time to buy some, btw, as it follows lock-step with Bitcoin. Silly Chinese traders, they love it Smiley
You have to have some to buy some. I don't have any income, I can't even afford to buy 0.05 let alone anything like 6-20 btc.

One thing to note, we could be entering bubble territory if the price begins to deviate sharply from what mining ROI hashrate supports. By my back-of-the-napkin calculations, that level is right around $4k/btc. And note that the hashrate increases have somewhat slowed as of late. I'm hoping that is only temporary.

Now some of this money coming in could really be institutional hedge fund money, who are taking large long positions. Hopefully they have better long term vision than the millions of kiddies with their $200 overnight bets burning a hole in their pocket.  Wink
Haha, I think we will see what happens on the 25th i if thats still the day the fork hits IMO looks like a bit of a bubble - will be happy if 'm wrong though - I'm hedging both ways LOL
How though?

If you short AND go long, sounds like in the end you will end up with 1-2% of loss.

With Bitcoin, anything is possible. I mean sure, I don't want to see Bitcoin's price fall any more than this, and for sure I'd like it to go to 10k and obviously, far more in the future. But we've all seen that Bitcoin is not a liquid market, a bunch of people can move prices up and down.

I made a profit of $5 shorting(I know, meager), but somebody lost those 5 bucks.

Beware of anyone using emotional terms like "bigblocktards" and the like. Arguments matter people, not emotional outbursts.

Indeed.  Any time I read anything like "bigblocktard" or "insane raspberry pi fetish" I move to the next post.

There are very real issues for debate, mere propaganda does a disservice to the thread.
How do you expect to have quality conversations and debates when you have shills, spammers  and scammers freely roaming this forum.

I too wish to partake in those discussions, and I mean with serious logical and objective opinions, but that is difficult.

Hey guys, maybe someone can make me understand
Do you think we will be able to use BTC in a couple of years to buy for example coffee?
The real question is, the minimum fee we can pay is 1 sat, there is nothing less than 1 sat, right? but if in the next years 1 sat = $2/3, the fee will be as expensive as the thing you wanna buy (coffee). I don't like this BTC = Gold/store of value, I want to use BTC for my everyday expenses.
If that happens, we can always add more decimal points, literally infinite actually.

But first we must fix transaction fees, they are huge.

Me too. I fail to see the "different strokes" part.

I get the "sexually liberated" shit, but in the context of a traditional, monogamous relationship, cuckoldry is something generally frowned upon, and usually a deal-breaker for any bonded couple.

For those people that are comfortable with an open relationship - good for them. All the more power to them.

I'm saying, cuckoldry is not traditional, or normal behavior, that lends itself towards building a strong nuclear family unit.

It's a trust-breaking "kink" to "normies".

EDIT: And yes, the irony of a homosexual man talking about "normal" things is not lost on me.

- There are blockchain projects that are so undervalued as a result of the bear market that I'm tempted to rob a bank just so I can buy some extra bags
- The twitter "influencers", a.k.a. shitcoin pump and dumpers have been eliminated
- The telegram pump groups and the youtube crypto analysts that were spamming the shit out of us have disappeared as well

Your grandma, your hairdresser, the gravediggers and the McDonalds workers have capitulated a long time ago.

What you see in the chart below is not people selling their bags in desperation, it's just whale day traders liquidating each other with the power of margin, otherwise, you cannot explain rationally the trading pattern. I mean, it's sideways trading for a few days (sometimes weeks) followed by green/red dildo candles. Capitulation doesn't happen this way.

All in all, I find these to be positive signs. Bitcoin is still lower in market cap than Jeff Bezos's wealth. I'm patiently waiting for the next bubble.

The more times some support is tested, the more likely it is that it will be broken. This is TA 101.
