BTC price tending is based on news..
does TA predict news now??

i wish we can predict highs and lows, drawing some lines.. but that doesnt work for cryptos

TA is nice to play between news. But looking for long term analysis.. no way.

I think you adapt your lines to what happened before.

TA doesnt fit our beloved and volatile BTC.

So today we broke above the linear line (which was a mathematically inevitability to occur by July), rising $3 above it for 20 minutes. We then failed to break any logarithmic trendlines or even come close to the ichimoku cloud. This breakout is just like the breakout in March but with half the volume, and the push on stamp was split into two little pushes on two days rather than one big push on one day.  However, the chart on Huobi looks almost exactly the same as Huobi's chart in March (which had two pushes).  Right now everything just seems exactly the same and I don't see any clear signs of reversal.

Hey TERA, i said that 2 pages ago... with lot less words Smiley

I expected a much deeper correction than this ''pathetic'' $400+ dump, market sentiment is to bullish for even more panic sell out.

Going sideways untill Segwit activation?

I'm going to wait till 20th August. Will have fiat prepared to buy some more.

I read a lot of predictions saying it would fall to 3600-3800 range. Even if it is a small dump it is still a discount.

Just reminding that I wont sell anything and I advise everybody to HODL the line like there was no tomorrow.

Hi,

I am an absolute newby to this forum, this is my first post. On the other hand, I have been trading financial assets for quite some time.

I expected today's BTC dip, whatever the supposed reason for it would come out to be (i.e. fake news from China) on the basis  of :

1. a simple analysis of trading volumes analyzed on various time frames

2. the application of Fibonacci retracement levels to the previous leg up

3. the application of Eliot's wave count to the previous leg up (impulse wave) and to the current leg down (correction wave)

Technical analysis is not science  and its various tools are not always churning out foolproof answers.  Some tools work better ( = more often and on more type of financial assets) than others, but even those can fail ( = give false signals).   In my experience,  Eliot and Fibonacci have the best predictive power because they are not based on averages of past datas but on eternal or, at least, recurrent human behavioural patterns.

This said,  I put out my 5 cents of wisdom to say that the market will find its way to correct lower  before it resumes its way up.  I have set a number of buying orders at decreasing price levels between 4000 and 3000 USD  so, to put my mouth where my money is, this is what I can recommend to others as well.

Good trades everybody !

Sure your post sounds reasonable newbie; however, you need to account for s-curve adoption, metcalfe networking principles and that bitcoin is an immature technology that is also going through fundamental extreme attacks and even weirdness in the cryptospace on a broader level with a variety of random and extreme performances of ICOs and alt coins, and that is where the fucktard over reliance on technical analysis frequently screws up with their assertions about supposed inevitable needs for correction in a kind of false equivalency about bitcoin being a supposed mature market.

Sure you could be correct this time (a stopped clock is correct twice a day), but please present your technical analysis with a bit more grains of salt and accounting for both the immature price finding aspect of bitcoin and the s-curve analysis which are important factors to not leave out when you are arriving at your supposed "reasonable" technical analysis conclusions and advices.

JayJuanGee, excellent write up! 100% agreed..I couldnt find better words to express my thoughts

I'm hodling whatever the price anyway, but it's good to know.

It was healthy volume which favoured sell pressure on the 12hr

The 3hr 4hr show some quite healthy buy pressure though on a few sessions..

Volume easing off for now from the big dump..for now.

Been pretty intense trading volume across  the board of the entire cryptomarket past 24 hours! talking $6.5 billion here!
with $2.7  billion being BTC alone.

Not peanuts.

Overall market Cap: $111,074,558,078  DOWN!

'Run to $20K' is so 2017. I'm thinking run to $150K.

I like the idea of +$100K.. but i think we have some things to settle first.

Like an easy to use wallet with the unit of value in SATOSHIS(SATS), and a widespread use of SAT/USD rate.

Maybe people will perceive an entire BTC as way too expensive at those prices.

Smaller fractions are easier to accept/buy...like there are bullions, ingots or coins of gold.

Seems that my prediction from a few hours ago was correct and we will see 11.800$ price levels. Looks like BTC price sticks very precisely to the trend lines during this bull run.

Here are the levels we will possibly see in a couple of hours marked red. This is good and after this profit taking, we should see again upwards move.

Of course, we have to closely follow the price charts and take into consideration actual readings and indicators.

Theres something wrong with Grand Cycle 4. Dont get me wrong! I love bullish charts. But it seems they are trying to accomodate that 1 and 2 lines (Elliot Wave?) to follow the recent price movement. They didnt need those lines to explain past price action within Cycle 2 & 3..

What i mean.. we have no f%&ing clue how this price will evolve. 2019 is different from years before. We are more mature (well.. some never grow up).
Maybe times are accelerating. "This time is different". No point to use past data to interpolate future price..

I don't know about "crypto" but Bitcoin is easy money.

Simply buy and hold. Don't sell unless you absolutely must. Never sell because of the price. Only buy because of the price if there's a significant dip. Don't set finite target prices.

Within a few years your bitcoins will increase greatly in value. Easy as pie.

When you see "changing life money" come and go in weeks, i can assure you.. its (still) not easy for me.

Libra poisoned the well.

It would almost certainly destabilize currencies and even countries if/when let loose.
Example: a country has NIRP...Libra does not...so, you sell local currency and pocket the % (of NIRP) every year; or, you are in a non G-7 country...you sell local currency and buy Libra (a basket is almost always better than a single one). India and Russia-first two large countries to ban Libra on day one, I  think.

Regarding libra and bitcoin-not sure how it would affect it, but i disagree about any optimism.
If I was one of bitcoin leaders or code contributors (and I am not), I would greatly accelerate Lightning wallets development.
On a positive side, some in congress (and not in a senate) seem to understand the difference between something that is decentralized and centralized.

Bolded and underlined as i 100% agree with you. First we need a killer app, then we conquer.

If you are looking at Caribbean beaches, beware of sargassum (seaweed). It can ruin your holiday.

even a 'fake' twitter post saying Trump wanted or was pursuing banning Bitcoin would have a huge effect on price..even with say

his ADT and it went no place. I'd guess BTC would go down by 15% on such shenanigans and if an outright ban, well at least in the short term

at best BTC would be back about $3,200 again. IMHO. It likely would bounce back some on this new reality...but it would mightly suck.

the guy has too much sway in the media and folk freak out about his irrational actions, that would be some of the results and thus my guesses on above.

My theory about this is that when the mainstream coins like Libra hit the market, they will bring the Bitcoin dominance down because they will be pumped/inflated. Im sure next year we will see Google, Apple, Amazon, etc all jump in. Bitcoins dominance will have to compete with those coins to which would likely bring the dominance down.

P.S. this guy is going to become an absolute god if we hit $16,000 next month.....

-He called the bottom (A lot of people thought we were going much lower when he posted it)
-He called the exact length of the accumulation phase (Said it would end in March and start in April)
-He called the April boom we saw in the first week
-He called the correct price in April
-He called the correct price in July (Bitcoin almost made it out of July without touching $9200, turns out $9100 was the bottom; we haven't gone lower since)

So October will be interesting, this is a legendary posts regardless, the amount of things he has gotten correct already is remarkable.

Likely a lot of luck in there.

None of us should get sucked into the trap of deifying posters into sorcerers.

Remember how revered Vinnie Lingham was in 2015/16 and how he squandered such reputation in early 2017? - but probably only after a decent number of folks got R3ckt  by selling because they actually relied on his bullshit early 2017 propositions that bitcoin was going below $500.

You are right, Juan.

Still a bit soon for the triangle breakdown, but it won't be long now. There is NO-NEW-MONEY coming into the system, the current (14k top) supercycle will be the first one to create a lower high. One possibility is a super descending triangle (sloping from 20k, touching 14k, maybe 9k for the next lower high) with 3k as horizontal support. BTC does not pay a dividend, it has no actual human use utility > if you don't sell you may as well throw the private keys away, there is no difference.

Flip the chart to linear to realize the actual scale of new money that has to come in for a new ATH to be hit. Usage is lower. Search interest is 5% of the 20k peak. Institutions have regulated, secure methods to invest and of course don't care. The only possibility is a new army of retail suckers, tell me where they will come from (without the media hype of new ATH's to pull them in) and I would love to go long.

You must be new here..

where have you been in 2016-2017 ?  supercycles ?? lower highs ??

Conclusion

We have introduced the power oscillator, an oscillator which:
is based on bitcoin’s natural power-law based growth model.
does not depend on hand-chosen hyper-parameters such as the 200-day moving average in the Mayer multiple [7].
detects good moments to buy bitcoin without the introduction of a hand-chosen parameter.
reliably detected all four bitcoin all-time-highs.
is more useful than the Mayer multiple.

Interest will increase after the halving when the price starts to move up. Nobody wants to be the first to blink, let these institutions buy when it goes up, they don’t want to take a risk & buy now.

At least BAKKT will have been open for 6 months or so there won’t be any teething problems when the next wave of institutional adoption comes. BAKKT will be ready & waiting to help them enter safely & securely.

Their interest is in a tool to manipulate price (CME Futures) not in physical delivery.

We were stable for so long, and now have this shitfuckery to deal with. I suspect things are going to become wildly unpredictable the closer we get to the halvening. One of the reasons I'm trying to HODL strong until at least 2022 before making a decision to do anything with a small portion of my stash - Counting on it easily being over $25k USD/BTC by that time.

Was just reading from @100trillion iirc that tools like futures and gbtc are created to suppress Bitcoin's price. Since they do not own actual BTC but still want to short it.  The long of this is,  Bitcoin's price might not be Bitcoin's price, gamed prices and timelines.

If i dont understand wrong, to supress the price you need actual selling of BTC.
Some morons betting on btc price (cash settled future contracts) cant affect the price.
BUT it seems they managed to get a selling counterpart (baaad whale).. They bet on a low price, and in the other side they actually sell BTC. Then the whale rebuys lower. (rinse and repeat)

Options for bitcoin FUTURES, again. How about plain old options? I wonder why they're approaching it this way.

Option on a physically settled future on bitcoin are basically the same thing of an option on the bitcoin itself. I really can’t see any difference.
They are doing so to “recycle” a few items legally I think. But nothing real for the user.

Edit: I saw the message from Javi on the choice between physical or cash settlement of the options. I don’t know his source, but it looks very odd to me, but everything is possible.
If I know more, I will let you know.

The source is the link you provided: https://www.coindesk.com/bakkt-to-launch-options-on-its-bitcoin-futures-dec-9

It has been accepted that 2017 bullrun was cancelled by CME and co, with their shorting tools.

Then, all the parabolas using that 2017 peak should be invalidated.
It could have been way higher..
And "they" could cancel next bullrun.. or not.

Funny interpolations.. trying to predict such an emotional market.

To be honest, nobody knows what the honey badger is doing next, neither when nor how high it could climb ...

Cool. So far I've only been to Alona Beach. Its pretty nice. I wish I could have sat and drank at one of those dozen or so beachfront bars, but alas I'm not really a tourist and still have work to do on a daily basis. Did you manage to actually catch a glimpse of the Tarsier? I will definitely do Chocolate Hills one of these days, don't really care for bee farms...

It's dead. People aren't buying. If they do get a tiny bit, the price shoots up because there's no liquidity. They also aren't even selling. Nobody can be bothered. Why sell now? It'll pump anon surely with the halving coming. If it doesn't then things are really bearish, then sell. For now, nothing doing. It's a long hold, it's about keeping your stash together now, not gambling it away so you can 'feel like a trader' or an alt-expert, but adding here and there. Come back in a year or two for six weeks of adrenalin. Meanwhile RIP for the nth time.

Do you see? It never reached the curve! It had to be lowered and adjusted!

Stability in the parameters of a model is a good things.
This is why I am bullish on the Stock to Flow model: his parameters have been very stable since 2009-2012 era, hence even before the first halvening.
Given the fact the price has done probably 100x since then, this is a very reassuring quality of the model.

More info here: Stock To Flow Model: Modeling Bitcoin's Value with Scarcity

here is more of them, they all get adjusted and always lowered so you might lower your expectations.

Bitcoin BEAM indicator

#bitcoin #btc

Live here: https://digitalik.net/btc/beam_indicator

@BitcoinEcon

https://twitter.com/digitalikNet/status/1202383513552609280?s=20

Very intresting indicator:

Quote
BEAM stands for "Bitcoin Economics Adaptive Multiple" and is the result of experimenting with various indicator types and formulas for almost 2 years. Various other designs were dropped or improved until reaching a satisfying result.

BEAM may look like a typical indicator, but can also be used as a basis for an anti-cyclical investment plan for Bitcoin as well as other crypto assets whose cycle is tied to that of Bitcoin. Roughly speaking, BEAM divides the price of bitcoin at any given moment to a moving average of past prices. This makes price trends more clearly visible.

This indicator is also available in tradingview to play with:
Quote
BEAM on TradingView
I developed BEAM in Pine Script on Tradingview.com. Recently I published “BEAM” and “BEAM Bands” there. So at Tradingview.com you can apply them to charts by clicking the Indicators button and searching for them. To apply them to Bitcoin I recommend that you enter “BNC:BLX” for displaying the “BreaveNewCoin Liquid Index for Bitcoin” chart and set the time frame to 1 day. The BLX chart shows all historical Bitcoin prices since mid 2010.

Heading into the halving within a bearish trend.. Never seen before. This is fine.

Never a boring day/month/year in Bitcoinlandia.

Da fuck! What country are you in?!?? Never saw capital gains taxed so fucking high. That percentage is ridiculous even for regular salary income FFS!
50% income tax, give or take depending. 25% sales tax. Hidden taxes on everytyhing, not sure how much but not less than 50%. In total, 80-90% taxation.

Which is why there is no fucking way I will get off with ONLY 20% when they get around to bitcoin. States always want More.

Denmark, by the way.

From what I understand, most European countries have taxation based on country of residency. So, you should be able to get residency in 0% country, like Malaysia or Panama, stay there for a year, dump your bitcoins, then move back. All 100% legal and tax free.

Sorry to scrollback the subject some pages.

I've been at Cayman this month.
I heard there's no tax property there.. in fact i believe theres no taxes at all.

I almost entered a bank to open an account (for future uses). But I guess a little more crypto integration is needed before its the perfect place for us to be...

But look..This was happening while i was there..

Cayman is quite expensive (even more for my devaluated argentine pocket), but what-a-place-to-be! Maybe you have seen those perfect pictures of the beach.. i can assure you the real place is even better than that.

And is Spain becoming picky on taxing crypto? I guess i'll cancel my retirement plan in the Baleares (I hold a spanish passport too).

Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz has attempted to explain what exactly happened to Bitcoin's safe haven status. In his new tweet, he writes that investors tend to 'take leverage down' and book profits during such black swan events.

via Imgflip Meme Generator

Not a hedge asset

From the U.S. stock market suffering from its quickest correction since the Great Depression to oil prices plummeting 16 percent — this week will surely go down in history.

When global markets got gripped by a ruthless sell-off, Bitcoin failed to serve as a store of value, which many believe should be its main use case. In fact, BTC performed worse than any traditional asset, shedding 15 percent of its value in less than a week. At press time, it is just trading just below its key support level of $8,500.

Bonds, not Bitcoin

While gold bugs were quick to dismiss Bitcoin's as a hedge against economic uncertainty, Novogtatz's claim about investors booking profit definitely holds water.

One of the biggest surprises of this tumultuous week was the gold price recording a five percent drop on Friday. The yellow metal is considered to be the most robust store of value.

Just like during the 2008 crisis, investors started liquidating both stocks and gold for covering their margin calls. Bonds and cash turned out to be the real safe haven.
https://u.today/mike-novogratz-explains-why-bitcoin-btc-is-failing-as-safe-haven

During his recent interview with TD Ameritrade Network, Ari Paul, the CTO of BlockTowerCapital, agreed with Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz that more money printing initiated by central banks around the globe could be the most bullish case for Bitcoin (BTC).

Is #bitcoin’s store of value use-case broken after its big break from bonds and gold? $btc@AriDavidPaul weighs in:

However, he predicts that Bitcoin could mirror gold in 2008 with a delayed reaction to the looming economic crash.

More aggressive rate cuts

As reported by U.Today, the U.S. Federal Reserve did a 50 bps emergency rate cut on March 3 to cushion the devastating blow from the coronavirus pandemic. However, it provided only a temporal relief for the equities market that had its worst day since the previous recession on March 9.

Now that President Donald Trump calls the Fed 'pathetic' and pressures it to cut rates in a more aggressive manner, things could get really bullish for Bitcoin as Novogratz predicted earlier.

"I totally agree with Novogratz that the strongest bull case for Bitcoin is what we are seeing right now, which is the entire U.S. Treasury curve below one percent," Paul said.

https://u.today/mike-novogratz-thinks-its-strongest-bull-case-for-bitcoin-btc-ari-paul-agrees

BTC was designed to shine in a moment like this.

It was designed to be a peer-to-peer version of electronic cash, not a "store of value" or something people buy and hope goes up in value so they can sell it at a higher price. The only thing we know for sure is that if bitcoin loses value, it won't be due to its own inflation.

So we shouldnt OBSERVE BTC/USD, and this thread is pointless?

All technical analysis is out the window in a "black swan" event like this. The bears were and still are wrong. They just got lucky there was a global event that helped them out.

Bitcoin crashed because the wall street types dumped it to cover margin calls on their other crap. They are dumping everything to prop up their leveraged garbage. Bitcoin held up pretty well given the payouts it had to make.

There is still ongoing daily demand for bitcoin and the daily supply is still getting cut in half very shortly. Everyone who dumped will still have to buy back in once they get their shit together. Don't give it back to them so easily!
