So what happens when all the coins finally leave Gox?
They're going to China.

Seriously. This is a good day for any bitcoiners that suddenly want to line their pockets with yuan.

It means the US government just lost their window of opportunity to kill Bitcoin, even if they closed down every exchange that touches USD tomorrow.

Well shit.. LTC took a blast this morning.

This lines up perfectly with the downward trend line! This "blast off" happened with BTC already and it touched the top of its trendline, but it has yet to happen with LTC until now. The one day EMA crossover has confirmed a downtrend in both BTC and LTC...but they were both oversold until now.

I have just sold off some LTC Cheesy

Merry Christmas everyone!

So you are saying bitcoin is overbought, i say its a trend reversal

Merry Christmas everyone!

There needs to be some significant volume for a trend reversal, crossing the trendline doesnt mean much without volume

The amount of hubris here lets me think we are already at the peak of this suckers rally.

This.

I am still on the fence if this is a trap or if we are going to recover. By now, "all" the shorts have covered their position out of fear and the only buying pressure will be from new money.

hmmmmm

14. Post 4161802 (copy this link) (by thefunkybits) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_11.47h):

I had originally set my targets for the end of the "bulltrap phase" for around $800 BTC/$25 LTC and we are here now (of course I sold off too early) . Seems like alot of bullish sentiment here and talk of a trend reversal, but the volume doesn't seem to support it. If it is a trend reversal there will have to be some consolidation at a lower price I would think.

17. Post 4162694 (copy this link) (by thefunkybits) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_11.47h):

I have a theory that most of the traders holding short positions have been squeezed and bought back in already (most of it panic buying yesterday and today). This alleviates some buying pressure and leaves only new money to do the buying. With the weekend we should see a nice dip, but is this the end of a bulltrap or the start of a new trend?

Hmmmm

18. Post 4164382 (copy this link) (by thefunkybits) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_11.47h):

I think China is done buying in mass for now, even with new buyers coming in the market has been shaken. With this huge rise North America and Europe have taken notice (also much of the rest of the world) and huge players are about to jump in for actual business related things, not just speculation. I have a feeling that's what is going to drive the next huge exponential move

But i'm still bearish for the next few weeks  Cheesy

This weekend could bring a nice dip due to exhaustion of buy pressure.
Sounds like most of the shorts have covered their positions, and a fair chunk of people going long are sitting on some nice gains.

gentlemen, increase your longs, you will not regret. it's plain to see.

the clock has flipped the year and we're instantly seeing heavy buying pressure.

why?

well-funded startups/investors/gamblers acting "on plan" are going into "btc-acquisition-phase". they have bots and/or trading staff.

look at the buying-pattern on stamp. big money wants in.

let's welcome the new money!

dat volume tho   Undecided still not convinced.

Once everyone gets over the whole "new year omg" thing there should be another significant dip

allright, let's have a more meaningful exchange of thoughts...

why do you think there might be a dip and into which timeframe do you suppose it could fall in?

Every exchange is sitting at daily volumes of less than 10K and we are very overbought with the low volume. The fundamentals are strong and I'm a long term bull but this rally has no legs, simple as that. Im expecting us to go sideways for perhaps another 2 weeks and then have a fall but nobody knows!

Check out the chart below. Stochastics are telling us we are in very overbought territory and price volume oscillator is showing a huge divergence in price and volume. Looking historically at that indicator (and especially the combination of the two) one can only make an educated guess as to what happens next. Sure it is a risk to be holding cash right now, but I see it as a bigger risk to buy into this weak rally

What's with the steep ask wall? It's a bit antisocial don't you think?

A dump is coming in the next 2 weeks, volume hasnt been this low in a long time. This rally might have had legs is if every major exchange was pushing 50K a day, but most have been 10K and under for a week or so

Lol. Keep telling yourself that. History does not repeat itself in Bitcoin.

We are watching the non-Chinese inflated rally we should have had in November. Steady increases across the board. Now that China is handicapped, we can go at the pace we were mean to all along.

Price action is fractal, youre right about that...But volume will indicate when the next exponential rise has started, which isnt now. This exact same situation happened in may. Once "all" the shorts have fully covered then we will start to decline

Historically markets don't necessarily respond to innovation (cf Betamax vs VHS, browser wars etc) - it comes down to people and FTC has an active community...have you checked out their forum or actually spoken to Chris?

I honestly used to root for FTC and be pretty involved with the community. that was until XPM and QRK came on the scene which made me realize how worthless FTC is. FTC is literally the exact same as LTC with 4 times more coins and horrible branding. Im sure it will do well (rise in price because BTC pulls it up) but I don't hold any

Bitcoin rallies in a fractal pattern of bull flags, TERA you of all people know this. The buy walls are building, but we still can only absorb ~ 0.1 percent of all Bitcoins in existence (12K BTC) before the plummet to $266.  Hypothetically that one guy on Bitfinex who flashed the 15K sell wall could do it by himself. What does that means ?

On www.bitcoinwisdom.com if you go into Settings-> indicator -> MACD and then look at the 1 Day scale the MACD indicator has turned into the red.

It's a bearish signal...now the question is do we go for a dip or will we flatline?

Stamp is kinda quiet right now. Is this the calm before the storm?

We bounced off 50% Fibonacci retracement (540 ish) with low volume and I'm expecting new short-term lows down to 520 ish (61% fib retrace) at somepoint before the next run-up. New money during this week could keep the boat afloat but a breakout to new highs will take some time to build (especially considering whales will be buying chunks of SR coin off-market)

Exactly. Yesterday I watched as about 800-1K BTC fill in the buy side (after the 500 BTC dump yesterday) , I wake up to see almost that exact amount of coins being dumped on the market (1K) this morning, totally wiping out all the coins that filled in the book for the day.

Point was that Monero suffers from unsustainable blockchain bloat and until they fix it, it can't go anywhere.

That's the FUD story.  The fact is that XMR blockchain is asymptotically about 5.5x the size of bitcoin, and that number tends to go down over time. Your improvements are welcome.

I've seen it mentioned 100's of times and they are as reliable as flipping a coin.

Yup, because its less liquid it will often show the cracks of a bear market before BTC does imo

For example, in the drop from $580-600 to here LTC started heavily dumping 24 hours before BTC even budged

Jinx.... hehehehe. Not a big deal. Looked more dramatic than it was. The question is what follows next. Book is thin and this is clearly manipulation, though. As long as we don't catch the margins we'll pop right back up.

This is definitely a fearful retest of 500, but the longer we stay down here and keep testing on low volume the better...

I doubt that we get another big margin selloff after this BFX shakeout

I think these (1: april 2013 aftermath, 2: december 2013 aftermath) are quite similar.

Now we even have the final blip down. In case of 1 this was caused by the silkroad bust, in case of 2, I don't even know. There are of course differences, too. 2 is quite a bit slower (takes longer time), for example.

Of course I'm not the first one to notice this, just wanted to remind the bulls there still is hope Wink

The SR bust only relieved sell pressure that had built up and I believe the price would have turned bearish around that point anyways.

I remember thinking before the SR crash that there was some sell pressure that needed to be relieved (although I knew we were well in place for another exponential rise in the price). I was right in this thinking, but the news was just a catalyst for this pressure to be released.

I believe the same thing is happening now without the "news"

Does anyone have an explanation on who keeps lending fresh BTC on bitfinex for those shorts?

An interest rate of 0.0055 %/day (2% annual) doesn't seem worth the risk to me.

after BTC swaps shot to 8k BTC, an hour ago there was only miniscule amount available. Now there's again ~ 1000 BTC available to borrow at flash rate of 0.0055 %/day. wtf. who in his right mind is doing this???

wild theory: maybe those are just finexBTC being lent?

Perhaps a large market maker who doesn't mind throwing around 100s or 1000s of BTC simply to provide liquidity at all times

A few candidates come to mind:

Tim Draper
Circle
Keiser/Exante
Winklevoss

It's all stop losses, it would require a lot more upside to actually trigger the majority of shorts to get margin called.

educated guess = 640+

The amount of coins up for bid to yesterdays low ($480) could get us pretty close!

so..... 450 buy on Huobi and absolutely no one followed. it's like all the bulls up and disappeared. i think we are gonna slowly slide down here and break 500. hopefully not too far below...

I can't take Huobi seriously anymore after seeing countless fake breakouts (on huge volume) that end up turning sour. With no trading fees things are easy to manipulate over there...

I only make trades now when all the major exchanges move together as it's usually when we see volume (and volatility) start to pick up

I shouldn't have shorted LTC.  Undecided Should I back at a loss? Any opinions?

I closed my 0.013 short below 0.01.  Just looking at LTCBTC I'd probably hold on to a short if I had one, but I'd rather be long BTC.  If you are short in USD terms, I would GTFO.

Yep. It was in USD. But I'm not worried now that I look at it. I can sleep comfortably while being long in BTC. On the other hand, greed is bad. Not gonna fall for it.

I'll be looking for a buy opportunity when BTC gets closer to reaching new highs..

LTC/BTC is at a decent long term price point at 0.01 (You can easily double your BTC if you hold until the next bubble). But I don't think we've seen the "point of maximum pain" yet

I don't know mate. People thought LTC was a lost cause and anyone who bought near the 40's range must have experience the point of maximum pain.

In USD terms, yes, I think so. I'm saying LTC/BTC still has another leg down when BTC starts making jumps so high that LTC cant keep up (this has happened in the past two "bubbles", before LTC/BTC shoots from 0.01 to 0.04 in about the timeframe of a week)

I would say now is a good time to get into LTC/USD but there will be better opportunities ahead if you trade LTC/BTC imo (I'll be waiting for 0.006-0.008)

Why risk trading?  Except obvious price movements, of course.
1k coins is .5M USD.  Within a year or two, you are likely to have 2M USD, and maybe more.

Remember, most traders lose money.

I would assume anyone with that amount of coins would know the answer to that question

Maybe EW trading. If he speculates we are currently only in a correction wave and downtrend will resume in a few days it's not a bad idea, to put such high walls right before the start of wave 3.

But I don't know if this is more than a wild guess. My knowledge about EWs is abolutely basic. Look here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=672187.msg8766949#msg8766949

Maybe...

But if the seller really wanted to get the best price for his coins he would pull the walls, set small walls $10 higher and then set walls again.

Seems pretty odd to me if their intent really is selling all those coins

Most of us should realize, by now, that the real intent is NOT to sell the coins.... because as thefunkybits suggests, there seem to be many better ways to accomplish such.

... quite, the intent is to get others to sell coins below wall price, and feel good doing it ...

As I pointed out yesterday, this all looks like an attempt to hold the price down.

I'm not too worried though - it's similar to a coil that gets held down or a dam that holds back water. The longer and further you push the price of BTC down the harder it will spring back up!

you guys are over speculating, this wall is someone that wants out, because scared of falling prices.

I had a thought today that maybe it's a group of merchants trying to keep the price stable to make BTC more enticing as a "currency"

Bitpay or Coinbase (if they didn't need the immediate cash) could easily stop selling off-market and put up huge walls to suppress a breakout and keep volatility low

i don't think so.

this markets main attraction for deep pockets is the potential to become the manipulator.

your suggesting that Bitpay and/or Coinbase is trying to do this.

Shorts at 24k..

Tarmi about to cry again Smiley

And Fresh money is buying, not leveraged loans, its time to become Bull  Cheesy

How do you know about Fresh money?

Because the amount of USD swaps hasn't gone up appreciably, meaning those coins were probably not bought with leverage.

A highly leveraged exchange provides extreme liquidity for buyers  (also sellers) not using leverage.  It seems that someone is taking advantage of this high leverage and buying coins with very little slippage

good.

bulls finally sending some real cash to exchanges to take over those expansive leverage long positions means we are squeezing them.

Your logic here doesn't make sense. If this pattern continues the shorts will actually get squeezed, the longs will not unless we pierce 235 (or lower)

Allow yourself to be dynamic as the market changes, after following this thread for some time it sounds like you are 100% married to your position and assume you can never go wrong.

I think XT won't be happening given the market uncertainty it caused.

Currently zero percent of the miner vote.

Grab those those coins boys!

So if i start mining on XT, will the blocks be easier to find?

No matter how much proof Satoshi gives you guys, you'll still nitpick and find fault. No wonder he withdrew from this poisonous community.

No, the proof is trivial, but has not been posted. Sign a message with the genesis block key and post it for us all to verify. Anything less is simply a scam.

Yup. This.

I'm expecting everything to be back to normal in 24 hours...

when 460 resistance becomes a support line all hell will break loose

You can't even buy drugs or alpaca socks with that. I bet DAO will fail because there is literally no business on ether network. It'll take a couple of months before the poisonous bagholders show up.

The Ethereum network is built for apps to be built on top of. We always hear Antonopolous talk about the first "killer app"...well DAO is it and it's only on Ethereum. The Ethereum platform will build many of these killer apps and these will create a network effect on the Ethereum network. You are already seeing this with the DAO and companies like slock.it and Mobotiq

You've clearly not done your research. Slock.it and Mobotiq compete with airbnb and UBER...both of these companies (and plenty of others) will be funded via the DAO and Ethereum. The network effects at play here are massive

You've clearly turned ETH shill from a look at your recent posts.

Whatever you want to call it dude, im adapting. Ethereum has more full nodes and more daily trading volume than BTC. Don't be butthurt if ETH goes to 0.1 BTC and youre still holding BTC

good luck to those pumping and dumping ETH, and you are likely in for a lot more short term volatility than bitcoin .. but yeah, let's see how the price directions and developments play out for each.

Of course, im still bullish on BTC, and I plan on dumping some profits back in before the halving.

But for those of yall on the sidelines, don't be surprised to see ETH go to $50 each before that happens

Wow... that sure is ETH bullish... I mean, yeah, we can see some kind of connection between ETH and BTC... and even alts are likely to be absorbed into BTC over the years.

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/features-from-the-most-popular-altcoins-are-planned-for-bitcoin-1463675591

Nonetheless, your prediction is quite scary, and I doubt that it is a very good time to be buying ETH .... but sure markets can remain fairly irrational for a long time.

We will have to see how it plays out. Remember, Litecoin went to $50 on nothing (and almost a billion dollar market cap). Ethereum is currently at a billion dollar market cap (http://coinmarketcap.com/) and its a platform loaded with apps built upon smart contracts, I think it could easily surpass the interest that we saw in Litecoin.

Anyways, Im done posting about Ethereum as this is the Bitcoin Forum after all Smiley

Goodluck to all BTC and ETH hodlerz
