You do realize that now and for a long time from now bitcoin system will still be "creating money out of thin air".

And the US debt ceiling is just as rigid and final as the 21 million Bitcoin ceiling, right?

Plus the difficulty of mining bitcoins will increase whereas printing money is just as easy

Bitcoin will not be a ponzi if, and only if, it succeeds

Don't be an idiot. Bitcoin is not a ponzi.

Ok, now I have to be that guy.

Actually bitcoin does have at least two qualities of a ponzi scheme:
1. Early investors who gradually change back to fiat are basically earning money off the last round of investors.
2. Investors heavily advertise it because they know that the more new investors join, the more they gain.

I am not denying the absolutely awesome technological wonder that bitcoin is, and the fact that I can use it to move money across countries in a breeze (operation otherwise made unnecessarily painful by the sucking bastard governments and banks involved)
Still let's admit that we are in the speculation forum watching markets because we hope to get rich, and bitcoin keeps us hooked because of 1. and 2. above.

If bitcoin is a ponzi scheme then the US dollar is too.
The US dollar has nothing much to back it's value. It's 100% marketing and people invested in US dollars want more people in to uphold it's value.

Hopefully get to buy a few more coins at below 500 dollar prices..

It's good that there are no more weak hands.

What if Hedge Fund(s) have started to sell? Could it be the source of so many damn coins?
What if we had no need of speculating about this and could look up historical action of one particular BTC fund? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=337486.0

What if we could use this as an indication for other funds where we do not have the data?

What if the people pumping/hyping GABI had confronted reality and done this, maybe they would have been less disappointed now?  Shocked

SMBIT is an excellent contrarian indicator.

Smart money is dumping btc on exchanges to hold down marks for contract coins.  This much I know for a fact.  I then speculate:  When that dam breaks, there will be a mighty wave.

Major resistence is at $420. Don't look to the past. Look at the here and now( order book)!

1. order book can change instantly, not a reliable indicator
2. the past indicates support/resistance levels and their respective volumes, or how many players traded and will remember that particular price. support becomes resistance and vice-versa.

Hope we break $666 soon. Religion can be a bitch!!

sorry to troll the wall thread with this but let's put this to bed.

he said "2300 > soon"

This is an (albeit inelegant) way of saying that soon the price will be less than 2300.

The phrasing is weird I agree, however it is correct (the logic, not the prediction, I actually don't think we'll go much lower than right now).

You seem to disagree with his using > instead of <.

If he had said 2300 < soon then.....ahhh I give up, I think I'm being trolled Sad

As stated by Albert Einstein "You can't measure a fish by it's ability to climb a tree."

"2300" and "soon" are not comparable.

Oh look. A big dump half a hour ago. Someone saw the price slowly going up again and totally freaked out that his coins were becoming worth more so he quickly dumped them and made sure the uptrend would be stopped.

There's no stopping the uptrend, just slowing it down.

Some people think that could actually be good for Bitcoin.

Actually it's stopping the uptrend every single time.

What are the chances and/or implications of Bitcoin being under, say, $500 one month after the next halving in summer 2016?

Surely everyone is expecting the price to be over $1000 by Fall of 2016, but what if it's not?

That halving is priced in already. It's a known event.

By fall of 2016, Bitcoin will be sub $10.

And so are all halvings after that .... that means two things....

1. This is the final price of bitcoin
2. You're talking bullshit

About the referendum it is indeed ilegal, as anyone that knows spanish law and constitution do inmediately realize. It was the Judges and not the government who sent the police to seize the ballot boxes.
Illegal or not, you shouldn't beat your own people for: a) Peacefully protesting. b) Voting.

I do completely agree. AFAIK noone was beaten for that (trying to vote or peacefully protesting). Police had strict orders from Judge to seize ballot boxes, the only people that were beaten were actively hindering (not sure if that is the right english word) the police job. In fact, in most the places they were not able to comply orders because it would have mean a major confrontation and put people (and police units themselves) in higher danger. It was an extremely complex operative, probably the most complex this country has ever coped with.

I do also recognize this incident have had a very bad impact in international media. It would have been way better to have intervened way sooner and just arrest the promoters of the rebelion without exposing any law-abiding citizens to any innecesary risk.

What possible motivation could there be for removing someones freedom of expression by using law?
It is acceptable that a government may take a different view to a sub set of it's people, but it is not acceptable that a government denies those people from  expressing themselves in a peaceful way,

It is a common misunderstanding that freedom of expression is an unlimited freedom. It isn't. You can't publish clearly racist manifests, etc...

But this is not a matter of free speech. It is a matter of breaking the law.

Expressing anything (not ilegal) in a peaceful way is ok.

Who has said/or done anything against that?

Lol, the only thing they expressed in a peaceful way is their desire to separate from Spain. Which was promptly declared illegal and hence the following violence. Also, I do not think they expressed or published racist manifests... .

YOu are right, they didn't (mostly) it was just an example that even freedom of expression has limits but, as I said, this is not a matter of freedom of expression.

The "violence" you are referring to was the outcome of police following an order from the Judges to seize the ballot boxes of an illegal "referendum". No videos I have seen show the people peacefully cooperating with law enforment on their task, on the contrary you can clearly see people actively obstructing the judicial mandate.

Anyone has the right to express their desire to separate from Spain or anything else that is not clearly ilegal (as blatant racism as an example) but NOONE has the right to be above the law and obstruct law enforcement in a task that has been ordered by the Judges. I don't think that is allowed anywhere in the world.

That said... I would have put all this shitshow to an end way sooner going directly for the promoters of the rebellion.  It is sad and very unfortunate things let go up to this point.

So far there are no promotors of rebellion. Only promotors of independency. The Spanish government has made a terrible mistake by obstructing the referendum. They should have supported it and have promoted the no voters. Which now in a strange way, stayed home. Probably because they were afraid of potential violence induced by their government.

From what I see there are two things
 - people should be heard even if you disagree
 - the world should unite instead of break down

I dont short bitcoin, or anything, ever. With a short you can make a limited gain and an infinite loss. It makes no sense. As for bitcoin the most bearish possible position I allow myself to have is to have 20% BTC and 80% fiat. It's why I'm still here.

I say Bitfinex is goxy solely because I've been watching the trading for several days and made these observations:
-Periods of lag
-Periods of disappearing volume - I assume because traders cannot access the exchange
-Moving walls
-Continuously shrinking order book
-Huge arb below other exchanges
-Banned US traders

I dont get why this is such a touchy subject when I mention it. I thought all of you hated Finex too.

Do they have a WillBot manipulating the price?
Do they have a single person running the company that can make a run for the door?

At this stage simulation theory makes as much sense as any other.

someone wrote (sorry dunno who, science fiction author perhaps?) that we arent in a simulation. main reason being that irrational numbers exist. like pi.. something so universally used in nature that a simulation would waste vast amounts of computing power to model it. so basically, in a simulation, no irrational numbers would exist as it would be a poor design for a simulation to include such things.

If in a simulation:
 - Who says our simulation is using a classical computer.
 - Who says that the world outside our simulation has any resemblance.

If it was a simulation all the weird shit people do wouldn't be programmed in, I mean really, who would program r0ach in?

I believe in ETH becoming a respectable player. ETH infrastructure is growing.
LTC infrastructure is not really evolving.

So I will invest in ETH next to my BTC stash. ETH has a higher profit margin if it goes back to $1500.

If you are poor you should be saving instead of borrowing.

People that really "needs" the money, should never, ever borrow the money.

Enough rant.... I am open for criticism.

Nothing in this world allows you the increase your financial stability, your profits and your social status like borrowing a hella amount of money.

Though of course you must be smart about what you do with the investments.

I just borrowed 250k€, that's about 7 years of salary for me. The interests are basically 0 if you take inflation into consideration so that's basically just me borrowing to my future self to increase my current income ^^

If I could borrow 4M€ I would Cheesy

Well, as I said it depends on what you do what that borrowed money. If you use it for getting a better bigger house for living in it, instead as an investment to get a rent. If you use it to buy a better car, to buy better clothes, or to basically have more "free" money to spend on whatever you think makes you feel better as many people did, then that's where the problem comes.

People borrowed money and started to spend it like they had already earned it.... That's what basically happened.

If you are able to get someone to lend you 4M at almost no interest, and are also able to invest it wisely and safely without upping your lifestyle until you can really do it with YOUR OWN money, then it is ok. Anyways, I would consider that to be way overleveraged... but to each their own.

But that's not what most of the people that later couldn't afford to make the repayments did.

+1. Only live large on money YOU own.

Only live large on borrowed money when you know you will be dead when they come for the cash....

I Don't see a pole shift interfering with electricity production, the other two are real threats, but it will still only be local and temporary (and a good reason to have an old pre electronic car in your garage as a backup, together with sufficient amounts of gasoline, and some vital electronics and devices in a Faraday's cage for spare just in case).

I understand your reaction, I cannot explain it but I know that it will get disrupted.

"Many facets of our lives depend on the Earth’s magnetic field, anchored by the North and South poles, from the electrical grid that powers our computers to the satellites that let us watch TV."

There is a ongoing debate around the house as to its function. A microscope, a telescope and or a sextant have all been postulated and tbh I have never seen anything like it. While not precision made, it is quite sturdy and appears to be made out of some sort of brass. Looking through the optic sight there is not much magnification so I doubt its a telescope. Same for being a microscope, and it lacks the typical features of a sextant so I am at a loss. Another theory is that its just a fake steampunk sort of thing. Can the great hive mind of the Wall rescue me from this predicament?

The book Twyla Tharp indicates dancing.
The device looks like a portable magnifying device.
No compass or measuring on device. No compass. So not a scientific device.

I assume this would be used to view dancing when stuck in a skybox...
Or for a choreographer....
Maybe correcting eyesight only... so pre glasses

My guess....

A Republican president posting on Twitter arguing America should convert to a communist command economy haha.

But it's not even his real motivation.  Debt is completely unserviceable and about to implode the whole system and he's giving some fake cover story for why he wants massive dollar devaluation.  The only three options are:

1)  Devalue the dollar to be literally worthless before the system blows up then everything goes on as normal with everyone still enslaved to the bankers and debt based fiat.  It would send some assets and physical metals to the moon and create hilarious levels of income equality.  Imagine the rich being 10x richer than now and people with no assets except some fiat becoming even poorer.  The nation would probably implode two days later.

2)  Go back to physical metals before the system blows up and revalue metals to the moon to cancel out the cascading deflationary collapse of all the banks from unserviceable debts

3)  Go back to physical metals after the system collapses and revalue metals to the moon to recapitalize the system

You are wrong. The US monetary system (and the EU too) is debt based and made to work optimally under ever increasing debt.
Check out the youtube video "The biggest scam in the history of mankind"

As long as people use and believe in the dollar they can keep printing (generating money). This requires politicians to do the acting game.

If you go back to the gold standard you will need to be accountable and have the gold on hand. Being accountable is not something politicians are good at ;-)
There is also a highly likely scenario that Fort Knox and the Federal Reserve have a lot less gold in stock than is advertised.

No, I am not wrong.  Debt based fiat requires infinite growth to not collapse.  Without growth, interest rates would need to be set to zero, which is what we already have...and what Japan has had for a long time.  Interest rates are actually negative vs inflation.  Regardless, it's impossible for borrowing to not have a carrying cost.  Trying to nigger rig no carrying costs is just a temporary can kicking ploy that creates epic levels of malinvestment, which then implodes the system in a much bigger crash than having just left interest rates at their normal levels.

You then run into another problem.  The monetary unit literally is debt.  Interest generating loans and the currency itself (which also generates interest) are erroneously classified as assets and used as collateral when debt is always a liability and never collateral.  The prolonged 0% interest rate is guaranteed to create a malinvestment bubble which will bust and create massive deflation and collapse the system when it does from all crosslinked loans going bad because the banks cannot handle any form of deflation.

But back to the carrying cost aspect.  Fiat dollars are considered assets because if you have enough of them, they can (at some times) generate a lot of interest for you.  If interest rates are zero because growth is impossible due to peak working age demographic in every nation that matters, and peak energy use - because energy is what powers the economy and the world doesn't have infinite energy to give - then fiat is no longer an asset and then turns into a liability.  Once fiat is a liability, the world is guaranteed to go back to physical metals regardless in almost every aspect.

I can mostly follow your reasoning.
In short "No inflation = no interest = less use of banks because no interest gains = less loans because of money short = downfall of economy".
An economy can only function if money moves around.

I am sharing here an horror story, hopefully can be useful to someone.
The Most Expensive Lesson Of My Life: Details of SIM port hack

Quote
I lost north of $100,000 last Wednesday. It evaporated over a 24-hour time span in a “SIM port attack” that drained my Coinbase account. It has been four days since the incident and I’m gutted. I have zero appetite; my sleep is restless; I am awash in feelings of anxiety, remorse, and embarrassment.
This was the single most expensive lesson of my life and I want to share my experience + lessons learned with as many people as possible. My goal is to increase awareness about these types of attacks and to motivate you to increase the security of your online identity.

The lesson is:

1)  All code is garbage
2)  Digital Rube Goldberg machines based on arbitrary garbage code are not money
3)  Real money requires a hell of a lot more effort to steal since money is required to be a physical commodity

Those lessons suck ass. You hate crypto we get it however Bitcoin is no garbage code.
Real money is just an IOU on paper with no backing by gold so it is a LIE. Crypto can exist as physical commodity to in the form of a paper wallet.

If you want to bitch about Bitcoin bitch about the fact that it is financial anarchy and kind of like the Wild Wild West.

fillippone I feel your pain  Cry. Lucky for me I've not lost that much and have made good for the previous losses. Hope the losses were minor based on the money you invested.
I lost some with an exchange crash or two. Bought some shitcoins in a pump and dump group and figured out I got screwed over. Got divorced, Etc.
I think most crypto veterans have had there portion of rough water to swim through.

The problem with crypto is that you have no way of getting your money back and security must be paramount. People try to optimize profit and do it without any form of risk management/mitigation.
I have a great portion of my BTC in a cold wallet (as physical as you can get it). I know I am missing out on a lot of gains however I am more sure I won't get screwed over like you did.
A small portion on an online wallet to play with.

This is why you should see Bitcoin as a pile of cash or gold that is easily usable internationally and not as a replacement for the economy unless you want anarchy.

I wish you some good gains in the future!

This is our house now Ke-mo sah-bee

That is pretty fucking crazy to hunt bears with a spear and to be able to be successful.

Of course, it would not be a preferred outcome to engage in a battle with a bear and merely injure the bear without actually killing it, yet I suppose in some of the cases, that kind of outcome would inevitably happen.  Overall, it seems to be a pretty open kind of way to try to accomplish the killing of a bear, and it appears that in the USA spear hunting of bears is only allowed in 4 states.

I'm not really against it, and surely those hunters attempting to hunt bear with a spear without decent talents and/or strength might be weeded out in their attempt to employ such practices, too.   Wink

If a bear comes close it will stand on it's rear legs and try to grab you.
Wedge your spear between the ground and the bears chest or stomach at an angle.
When the bear comes down then he will do a hara-kiri and you win.

I personally prefer the Magnum Wildey method  Cool

P.S. If you kill something you must eat it....

What do you win ? Serious question. I've nothing against hodlers, but if you're a pure hodler, then the price shouldn't matter to you, should it ? 1000$ more, 1000$ less, what difference does it make ?

Unlikely. Not that I care much, but you underestimate the ability of Wall Street to create a rush to some token in a true bull market.
Some zombies might revive and some will join the fray.
Why? Because there is a certain group of investors who harp on POW and think that POS will allow them to "earn" interest.
I don't see how btc can truly earn interest, apart from questionable re-hypothecation schemes (in which I don't partake).

I don't see how in my earlier post, I am making any kind of "estimation" of the power of wall street that significantly or materially differs from your estimations of the powers (abilities) of wall street.

You are agreeing with the opinion that ONLY some unclear tokenization (how loan tokenization creates any value whatsoever-a rhetorical question) and new btc forks (lol) would create significant market cap value.
There are better candidates.

I didn't believe that I was saying that, and it looks like you subsequently edited your post to hone in on my response to hairy's comment.  That was not in your first response because it looked like you were responding to my whole post (or I  could not determine which part).

Anywhooooo,  I was just thinking that there were potentially a lot of ways that BTC dominance measures might be manipulated, and I was just trying to add that angle to the speculation regarding where bitcoin might be a year or two down the road, and Hairy posted a bit of a more elaborate listing of possible scenarios, all of which are speculative in terms of ways in which the BTC market dominant measure might be represented in the future.  Sure, I don't discount forks or any kind of shenanigans that would appear to manipulate and cause bitcoin to look less important than what it is... I am not sure if you buy more into the belief of some kind of significant meaning of the coinmarket cap bitcoin dominance or if you agree that it appears to be an ongoing indicator that is attempted to be used for FUD purposes, including that some coins will get listed on there in such a way that was largely smoke and mirrors, historically, ripple, ethereum and the two bcash forks have been accused of that kind of manipulation, but surely there are several others that try to get listed high on that list in order to cause themselves to seem more legitimate - but at the same time the measure is used in order to attempt to make bitcoin seem like it is somehow in the same league as those shitcoin projects that are listed thereon.

Example:

Account X with BTC100
You send BTC1 to Account Y

Account Z is created by your secure wallet
BTC1 will be sent to Account Y
BTC99 will be sent to Account Z

Your remaning balance is now in account Z
The stats say BTC100 was moved even if BTC1 was actually sent out to a foreign account.

P.S. This is done to protect your public key aswell as your private key. Only when BTC is sent does the source address need to provide it's public key.

Do you really think bitcoin will reach 10k dollar anytime soon, I think we first see a dump to around 500 dollar and than see an upwards trend to 2000 dollar at most. even 200$ is also hard to reach in early future. it must take another halving.

There's a ton of little shack houses in those pictures already there.  How many people live on that island already and who the hell are they?  If you buy the island, do you just kick them off or something?  And if nobody lives in those dozens of shacks, what the hell are the shacks for?  I'm guessing one reason there's not a lot of interest from rich people is because it's...an atoll...and the thing is basically underwater already.  Any type of bad weather and the whole thing is submersed and you die.

Hahaha. The shacks are usually from vanilla farmers, you can kick them off. They are selling the place... it is a freehold.

“It provides the opportunity for its owner to organize his/her life and lifestyle exactly as he/she wishes……“

The place does need renovation but wtf you can build anything you like.
And the sea level isn’t going to rise that much, not like it will rise 10m. So just build your mansion a little higher up and towards the inner sea protecting you from the weather.
I’d rather sit on a pearly white beach than a high ugly rock.
Many countries successfully live on atolls and they are breathtaking...

Did anyone think that CSW would give an interview for free?
No. This is just an elaborated "consortium" to FUD that Bitcoin price could fall. (Not that it wouldn't be volatile anyway).

What a weird read, the guy seems to have a bit of a messianic complex. IMO if Ira dumped all those coins immediately I would love it, BTC tanks temporarily for a day or less and we all pick up cheap coins. The total supply remains the same, a btc is still a btc. To me, this would be a lot different than uncertainty in the market or another exchange hack tanking btc. And what's cooler is it likely won't be priced in beforehand as no one knows when or even if Ira will dump. So yeah, bring it on.

The story is strange because you can only tax what is owned. So only if a legal document explaining the trust is available, explaining the contents of the trust aswell, he would need to pay up on behalf of the trust.
I wouldn't think a smart guy would have his bitcoins mentioned in some legal document on which the IRA can lay it's hands.

The coins won't be dumped. If you look at the Silkroad coins, they were auctioned.
So I believe the Bitcoins will be auctioned for the price that the IRA need, maybe in batches.
Who will be auctioning the coins is unclear, so either the IRA or CSW.
Don't think the coins will get dumped in one go or even hit the exchanges.

Having those coins dispersed into the network is good since there will be less and less whales that can manipulate the price.

Maybe the current sideways movement is the dumping of those coins to gather the owed amount in USD...  Undecided

The customers want the high-potency stuff and not the "Weed-light" or "Childrens-Weed" (Kinderwiet). This leaves a market for the illegal stuff.

However it does prevent the "legal" coffee shops having to buy their product "illegally" which is a good thing. The police tolerate illegal purchase by coffee shops at the moment.

It might be o.k.

I have been relatively frugal all of my life, even while my standard of living did increase, so there might be some difficulties to adapt - as compared with either growing up rich or even becoming rich in your 20s, then you might be able to really adapt by the time you are in your 40s.  In my case, I am older than that.  I already had more than 30 years of investing and becoming more and more rich with a kind of exponential growth that came with bitcoin and seems to have decent chances of continuing in the coming 3-5 years or perhaps less,  as we all kind of expect a bit of a boom and perhaps even another blow-off top to happen no later than the end of 2021, but likely sooner than that.

Same here, I am well off without Bitcoin and have a good standard of living. It is good to have acquired this by myself, which let's you know what you are capable of.
As you say I am in not too young either, having Bitcoin will help me get to the point where you don't have to work ever... (even though I will continue to work).
Getting filthy rich in your 20s is not good because you have never learnt what the value of money is. Chances would be that you have blown all your money before you are 40.

Peter Schiff or Warren Buffett will always defend their beliefs in the old value system which is based on banks, fiat or gold. No matter how good BTC is stand, it will always be ponzi or rat poison squared.

If we ask ourselves why some people think like that, the reason is that BTC is not something they can fully control, or maybe better to say is that they will never be for "give power to people" option.

Warren Buffett owns banks ... he's not going to say they suck

The first minor resistance is marked with the orange area. We are currently already there. Around 10.500 Usd.

So Brexit is not going to happen. Boris got backstabbed by his own fucking party, they passed an emergency law to make brexit illegal without a deal with EU which they are never going to get. Boris has called for an election and he has just been voted in not even 2 months ago. We have an official banana republic, and anyone looking to leave the west would do well to speed up their plans. Things will get really, really bad within the next five years.

I don't understand why the EU has so much patience with the UK. I would have expelled them long ago. They behave like the biggest clowns and make ridiculous demands.
The brits pay about ten percent of the EU budget. That's why. It's all about money. They can't afford to let them leave, under any circumstances. If they do others will follow and the entire communistic house of cards would fall down.

What I know is...
The UK is the fifth biggest economy in the world.
And except for France the UK is the only other country in the EU that have their own nuclear weapons.

And the EU are too nice 😇

Not a station. The second guess is close. I've provided a few honest hints already... next, a few more pixels.
The stairs are several decades older than the floor tiles, which look very new. The stairs were not updated on purpose, so history is being commemorated or recognized??

It must be a square/monument somewhere in Hong Kong.
I am depleting my real life to find it...

Good points, both of you. WOers are a smart bunch indeed! Fillippone in particular is almost right on target... (you'll tell me how you did it won't you?)

In fact it's a monument, and as you can now see, I doubt StreetView will help much.

Now for the promised pixels. I think the next taker will nail it.

This is how I do it...

Look at the picture closely for items that are searchable.
 - Names
 - Patterns
 - Buildings
 - Views
 - etc.

Looked at the upload time which could help... However the date on the paper was different. I therefore knew you had no internet so you were abroad probably...

In your picture we only had a pavement pattern to go with. I learned it was a basket weave.

You run through google with searches like "city square", "city plaza", etc. to see if anything gets close.
Once you are close you can usually figure out the country. Your picture could match anything from portugal to china... (and apparently taiwan Sad)

The pavement pattern is quite unique actually. I only found it at the Chernobyl monument but they were smaller tiles. So a guess was done...
I still believe the first picture might be enough to find the location.

I started looking at your posts and figured out you like football so I ran through pictures of stadiums ...
I looked at locations that one would visit on vacation. Maybe FIFA world cup locations....

All possible suspects are checked via Google Earth streetview...

Once I saw the building I was lost. It looked like a government building. Something official... looked up everything from KGB to NATO headquaters...
The pillars looked substantial so I looked for skyscrapers....
Clothing gave away that it was not Africa nor Siberia  Cheesy
Looked up guard clothing, no dice...
Again nothing and I was more lost than ever...

In the meanwhile I ran all pictures through reverse image search with no hits...

The last picture gave away everything. It was something like China.... anywhere where they write with scribbly stuff Cheesy
Reverse image search gave me 10 hits on the same location of which I could directly see it was the right location....

That is how I did it...

The same evidence that CSW is satoshi?

WTF are you on about? How could evidence of personal identity have anything whatsoever to do with evidence of protocol change?

I'm not sure if you're trolling or trying to be serious.

Back at ya.

See any evidence of SegWit in the white paper? No?

Explicitly in front of your face. Willful dereliction of truthiness.

SegWit was indeed an alteration of the Bitcoin protocol. Undeniably. There is really no way to argue otherwise.

I am pretty confident the white paper doesn’t say anything about Turing completeness, legally enforceable smart contracts, token protocols,  large data storage capability and all the other shit in Bitcoin SV marketing

What I know is that SegWit was added to bitcoin via a soft fork.
A soft fork means that it can coexist with the previous version and doesn’t require people to choose which coin to support (aka hard fork).

How could evidence of personal identity have anything whatsoever to do with evidence of protocol change?

Quote
I'm not sure if you're trolling or trying to be serious.

Back at ya.

See any evidence of SegWit in the white paper? No?

Explicitly in front of your face. Willful dereliction of truthiness.

SegWit was indeed an alteration of the Bitcoin protocol. Undeniably. There is really no way to argue otherwise.

I am pretty confident the white paper doesn’t say anything about Turing completeness, legally enforceable smart contracts, token protocols,  large data storage capability and all the other shit in Bitcoin SV marketing

Yet interestingly, all fully supported in the 0.1 version of the Bitcoin protocol. You know, before the Cripple Rangers took control of the codebase. SegWit, on the other hand...

Funny, eh?

So what's the point you are trying to make?

My mistake.  I couldn't see any evidence of them in the white paper.  Thank you for clarifying that it doesn't matter whether something is mentioned in the whitepaper.

That is not what I said at all. Are you really that blind that you do not see what I am getting at? Even with your introduction of demonstrably flawed sidebars?

The initial implementation of Bitcoin - 0.1 supports all the features you list. Without recourse to explicit enabling code.
The initial implementation of Bitcoin -- and including up to and through the SegWit Omnibus Changeset Release -- did not support SegWit. Neither explicitly nor as an external implementation. Indeed, the implementation of SegWit was predicated on the most egregious change to the Bitcoin protocol ever enacted.
The features you list did not / do not require a change to the Bitcoin protocol.
SegWit did / does require a change to the Bitcoin protocol.

So when you say "it doesn't matter whether something is mentioned in the whitepaper", you're neither right nor wrong. What matters is the protocol itself. SegWit was undeniably a change to that protocol. A rather significant one. Therefore, somewhat 'less Bitcoin-y' -- at least on this axis -- than other implementations which hew to the original.

On the other hand, if some element is decidedly counter to the white paper (chain of digital signatures, anyone?), then that indeed does matter.

It’s hard to keep track of what you were saying when you keep changing it.

Bullshit. I've been consistent. You've been persistent in finding new words to stick in my mouth.

wtf these new planes have jet engines, and cars have airbags?!?! But but none of this was in the original design!!!

OMG - but still TCP/IP ,  smtp, SWIFT, FIX  have not built in smart contracts - or did I miss u mix apples and crap?

However, we expect the lower threshold to remain useful to detect Bitcoin’s undervaluation in multi-month periods ripe for accumulation.

Interesting. However when we hit the top I expect to see transactions taking long to complete. So it should be taken into account aswell.

Maintenance costs on a 100m ($200M) super yacht aren't that bad

Costs per year
$4,000,000 to $15,000,000 on maintenance
$2,000,000 on crew (30 crew supplement)
$350,000 dockage
$300,000 on provisioning (food/drinks/wine cellar/etc.)
$240,000 insurance
$36,000 on navigation, TV, etc.

Other costs
$1.1 million on refits every few years

Totaling at something like $7M to $20M a year ....

My stack is significant... but won't let me buy a ship like that .... yet Tongue

Anyone buying a ship like that is going to be attempting to generate some income from it too, right?  I mean if you want the ship to be sustainable?  Can you really imagine that you are going on trips and the ship only has staff or maybe just a 100 guests or so?  It would feel nearly empty with those kinds of numbers of passengers, so I am having some difficulties understanding a personal use case... gotta be a kind of business boat, no?

Another scenario would be that the purchaser has ONLY a short time to live or something like that, but just making sure that the management of the boat staff is not engaging in shenanigans would take a decent amount of time to make sure that you have a good manager, if you don't want to manage it yourself - which would be kind of time-consuming, I would think.

So, at minimum, I think that anyone, even remotely interested in getting a boat like that better have at least 5x the yearly maintenance capital (left over after making the purchase of the yacht and the helicopter... hahahaha)....

So, if we are saying minimum of $250million in BTC value, then at today's prices that would be about 25,000 bitcoins, and if the BTC price goes to $100k, then that would be 2,500 bitcoin, and if the BTC price goes to $1million, then that would be a mere 250 BTC.  Do we have to both  make sure that we have 250BTC and wait for the BTC price goes to $1million?  By the way, with my recommendations about selling a bit of BTC all the way up the ladder, then I am thinking that in order to have around 250 BTC when (or if) BTC prices reach $1million, then today, the HODLer would need to have about 330 BTC to account for the on-the-way shavenings.

TLDR (for Hueristic and udder peeps like dat):  In other words, in order to have BIG ASS dreams, you better be preparing ur lil selfie, and have enough of a BTC stash in order to accomplish such BIG ASS dreams without putting your finances and/or psychology in any kind of unnecessary state of stress.  You heard it here, first.  Wink    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

If you buy a ship like this you can occasionally rent it out. They go for $425,000 a week so rent it out 10-20 weeks a year and your running costs are zero.

I think you would need to be a billionaire to do something like this.
So if you hold 1 BTC you need to wait 10 years  Grin

If anyone gets a ship like that don't forget to host a WO party 🤪😇

Probably not my most popular post.  Monday morning tinfoil truth seeking.

What is the probability that the US government’s big national secret is zero-point energy extraction?
If the military/government/TPTB have been engineering/reverse engineering energy and its applications in secrecy for 80+ years, would that undermine Bitcoin’s SOV and cryptographic security?  Surely the implications of such a technology are too vast to conceive.
I ask this question because energy is what BTC proposes to base sound money on. There's too many historical and theoretical examples of energy use on this planet to conclude that the current public/scientific understanding is complete.   I've not seen this argument debated however I understand its likely to be discarded to conspiracy for lack of proof even while the hard proof is literally in stone.

Well, at least they seem to get political decision out of vacuum (inside trumps head)...

Irony off: Zero point zero.
So you're saying 0.0 chance we have any better understanding of energy beyond E=MC2 ? Or more simply, popular public understanding.

There is a better understanding. And E=mc^2 is only a partial of Einstein equation.
The better understanding lies in quantum mechanics. And yes zero-point energy is kind of an aether that could possibly be harvested for energy. However the EM-drive that attempted to harness it failed to do so.

And the other point I would like to make is that keeping that kind of shit secret for 50-80years is impossible.
If we get to know where Bill Clinton put his dick. Then knowing where the UFO'S are should be less of a leak....

No real reason given. They demanded insight into my bitcoin transactions, I told them they get nothing bitcoin related, done.

This happened a mere few days before I'm going on a global tour, starting with asia, then eastern europe and finally south america. No big. I can buy plane tickets directly with btc, my only bills are my cellie which my family can handle from their accounts, there is the occasional btc atm around the world... it will be interesting to see how well it works to be bankless.

Presumably they will write you a cheque totalling your account balances so you can cash it when you get a new bank?

Asking for future reference.
For the moment I have simply moved my money to a family account. I don't intend to actually use that account for anything more than simply storing my money, but it is there as an extra emergency backup if needed. This is ideally a temporary measure. I have not looked for a new bank and do not intend to.

Are you planning on going fully bitcoin (aka crypto-stealth-mode)?

Forget the stealth bit, my shit is fully legal and as such there is nothing to hide. I simply do not like meddling middlemen who overstep their actual authority. But, yes, so far as possible purely bitcoin.

On a side note, the leadership in my now former bank has changed recently. The new heads do not have more than a year of experience in the banking world. It might just be a good thing that I got out now, rather than years down the road.

Of course your shit is legal. What I meant with stealth is that you are not giving any bank any means of tracking you and what you buy. (And possibly the government).

“While we have greatly simplified the process of acquiring Bitcoin, we strictly comply with money laundering, fraud prevention and other legal requirements regarding our operations. people write custom BIOS for older stuff all the time

not being snarky, really want to know

Sometimes BIOS'es are modified to add features or to allow other OS'es to be installed.

Like the Xbox 360 which was sold at a loss to make money on games.
Anyone being able to modify the BIOS could install Linux and have a very very cheap system running.

Or when people want to add hardware that isn't allowed.

But yes MOST people DON'T need to modify the BIOS  Smiley

I am little bit confused.
I tought halving had to do with the miner reward.
Instead I got an halving in price!
I am a little bit puzzled!

All is fine.
1BTC=1BTC

OK

If a miner digs and finds less and less gold.
That means he has less to sell but has to work equally as hard as before.
If a lot of people want gold and there is a limited amount then people will be wanting to pay more for it.
It's called scarcity.

The reason why limited editions are worth more.

Well I bought a big 60-roll (or something) pack at the Makro a while back. And I usually take a dump at work Wink
Yesterday TP was still available in AH and Jumbo (Utrecht province).

But then again who the fuck wants to live in Zeeland province (Bible belt territory I bet) Wink

I need to go to the shop today I might take a pic and post it....

finally, the TP calculator: https://howmuchtoiletpaper.com/

I'll survive the pandemic Smiley

Let’s hope, though it’s not written in stone....  if not the disease, still watch out for crazy peeps in need for your TP

I live in the Netherlands so most people are sane here, and TP is still in the shelves amidst the outbreak.

And my focus is on staying safe. Got my surgical grade hand sanitizer. Food for 2 weeks if I get sick, etc.

Everyone should stay safe

It doesn't matter where in The Netherlands. I've seen enough behaviour from people around the world to notice they mostly act the same, whether in The Netherlands, or in Zeeland, Utrecht or not. What the minority does can often still influence the rest. See Chinese wet food market asshole practices or us buying Bitcoin.

Lol TP disappeared. No TP at AH 🙈
Kleenex menthol or kitchen roll is the alternative  Wink

Checked at Jumbo and they're out too.

Funny how you can still get steak, kitchen rolls, but no TP.
What's wrong with people?

You can still clean your ass in the shower... Smiley

Well it's funny I guess but I'm not exactly ecstatic over the fact that my hunch was right. In a panic people are like sheep all over even when the average Dutchman is usually a bit more laid back about things.

True. I wasn't expecting this. TP rage is turning pandemic....

The more I look at the charts ... 6, 3, 6, 9, 12, 9, 6, 3, ... the more I consider this dip, as an epic bear trap.

Careful of the bull virus guys, aka BOV21.

Deepthroat edition:

This picture represents someone that went 100x leveraged long on bitcoin just before the dip Grin

Goldkingcoiner?

Mindrust?  (exaggerating on this one)

I had to get out of my position to save myself from obvious liquidation. I lost half my coins. I was at 2x dude. ;/ Ah well. I will make it back on the way up. But that dump bail had nothing to do with my TA. I just underestimated the corona scare.

I didn't have anyone in mind when I posted.
Anyone caught out in the dip I feel bad for  Cry

I'm finally capitulating.  I can no longer withstand the enormous pressure to return home from my virus-free surroundings.  This town's only Chinese food restaurant shut down yesterday and they never close.  It's time to pack up and leave.  See you on the flip side.

I heard Wuhan has good restaurants ....  Tongue Wink

So I have some information from a meeting of the French government, I have confirmed its authenticity. I'm not into spreading craziness, just putting it out there.

They are assuming 30-40% of their population gets affected. They are planning on a peak in June. They believe it is a single event, not seasonal.

They do not believe the EU will last another 5 years.

The key part is that they believe the economic outcome will be so bad that they will have to enact martial law. The discussion regarding this is that they will need to give special treatment to the family of the military because the threat is internal as opposed to external. So they will be asking soldiers to do bad things to its own citizens and need them to think about the well being of their own families as motivation.

Just an FYI, I'm sure governments are having similar discussions.

Here in Panama everything is fine where I live since we're so far away from the city. I stocked up for a couple of months and have a fishing pole.

So basically you are saying they want to abolish the Geneva Convention? Turn France into China 2.0...
They would need to do more than leave the EU...

Or they could have a sit down with the EU parliament and build a plan on how to attack pandemics as a whole.
Maybe all countries are open to martial law or lockdown in these situations. As a whole the european continent is stronger....

P.S. there is a lot of fake news going round so please check-check-doublecheck sources....

Citing low liquidity, Bitfinex has announced that it will soon delist over 87 trading pairs. This move reflects the increasing competition within the altcoin space, and could prompt considerably more market volatility.

Second day of less deaths and first day of less new infections here in The Netherlands. Hope we keep this up. We have no lock down yet, and going out on the motorcycle is truly amazing right now, hardly any traffic and hardly any cops. Will treasure this memory forever.

As a famous Dutch philosopher once said: "Every disadvantage has it's advantage (Elk voordeel heb zijn nadeel)".

Just make sure you don't fall of the bike and possibly need medical assistance, that is exactly what this all is about.
It's not only about not getting the bat flu bug only, it's generally about avoiding to need medical care right now. In best case for you, you take the bed from someone needing it, in worst case you don't get the treatment you'd get in regular times.

I've been on racetracks when young (ages ago), I understand the fascination of having your knee on the tarmac at 200km/h totally - but still #StayAtHome and possibly save a fellow Dutch's life!

This is the fact that many dont appreciate. Great advice.

+1 WOsMerit

Johan Cruijff was not a Dutch philosopher. He was a football player and captain.
He did have some very good quotes...
