People are buying in anticipation for next week. Totally expected this move. Expect dumps when the price doesn't move upward next week.

Explain why you think there will be no follow through next week?  30k new Coinbase accounts opened last week alone and those are probably just the US customers.

the 2 increases today were initiated by gox, look at the volume and time in the diagrams.

right now, china is waiting for gox to break 219 or 220, then china will take 1300. Maybe im wrong here, will see in next minutes

Nope. BTCChina and GoXbtc were earlier to the rises than MtGox.

I'm just wondering what the ddosers might be attempting to accomplish.

One possibility is they're wanting to sell OTC and have an agreement that the price be the highest 24hr volume usd exchange price so they might be trying to prevent trading on stamp till gox catches up?  But I may just as easily be making shit up! Cheesy

Agreed.  The difference between now and the April bubble burst is that the public have now heard about bitcoin, with plenty of articles in the mainstream media about the price, ATMs, Silk Road, ebay, etc etc.  There's way too much interest now for the price to fall back to $100, I reckon. Just to bring some perspective into current development. This is a 3-month Bitstamp log-scale chart.
The development was pretty linear up until 15-ish of October. After that, save for a small retraction at the end of October, it almost looks to go parabolic.

1. inputs.io hacked and closed and 4100 coins stolen.
2. bitfunder.com closing down.
3. https://btct.co/ closed.
4. havelockinvestments now in panama hands.
5. bitmit closing.

Yet we have potential to go to 600-700 Nov - Dec.

I was kidding, it was a nod to proudhon.

I'm of the opinion that next bear market will be the most devastating and the longest one so far (worse than 2011) because everyone is caught up in the belief that if only they hold long enough, they cannot possibly lose out on BTC, no matter their entry price. Every dip is a buying opportunity etc.

Furthermore, the current bubble developed very quickly after only 7 months between former alltime high. So, it's a bubble on top of a bubble in the same year.

We can talk about that once we actually top out. So far, we haven't even doubled from the 266 high.

I'm of the opinion that the time elapsed between each bubble will be shorter and shorter, each will be more 'violent' and price will go up/down more drastically until we reach the 'climax' or real price discovery. Then after that more bubbles will come, but the price will increase less and less each time, and time will be longer.

We are far away for the 'climax', i think at least two more bubbles are needed.

Just my 2shatoshis  Smiley

What the trading floor needs is many high volume traders that can be market movers. In other words buy up coin as its being dumped and sell coin as its being purchased just to stabilize the price.

When big money enters the trade floor expect things to simmer down plenty.

Question is when. Perhaps +$1000 ? Who knows.

The amount of coins on sale on the exchange is shrinking fast. Only 6k on sale on BTCChina, 7k on Bitstamp, 11k on Gox.

This is the "all time low" in terms of BTC on sale. Just think about how Avalon holds 65k coins in one address.

In my opinion is not a very good sign, it would be better for the trend to be fueled by new money in instead of scarcity of supply - just because the scarcity can be easily reversed by only one big holder.

I guess this is the nature of "penny stock market", and BTC behaves completely as a penny stock market.

Tighten your seat belts.
Thing is, more coins than ever are locked up for the time being and can't make it to the exchanges in the foreseeable future.

The FBI has 174.000 BTC and probably won't be able to sell them until after the case against Ulbricht

Bitcoin Investment Trust has 60.000+ BTC locked up that they are obliged to hold on to for their customers for probably at least a year (the number is based on the fact that they had 15.000.000 USD invested when the exchange rate was ~250 USD/BTC). This number will probably rise quite a bit in the coming months as they will buy more bitcoins to supply to new customers.

Possibly, the success of BIT will make other high profile individuals/companies imitate them and start buying up coins to start competing businesses. This would lead to additionally 10ks of coins being looked up for the time being. This is just speculation though, but a fairly reasonable assumption as far as I'm concerned.

You also have the Winklevii twins claiming they had 1%+ of all bitcoins in the beginning of the year waiting for their ETF. That's at least 110.000 BTC.

We also have Chamath Palihapitiya, ex Facebook-executive, who claimed to have 5.000.000 USD invested in BTC at the end of october. At the exchange rate back then, that would be 25.000+ BTC. He also said he was still looking to acquire more.

And there is a very high likelihood we have unknown high profile investors who have made private bets but hasn't said so officially. This is hard to quantify, but I belive this is at least a multiple of 10ks of bitcoins being locked up for the time being in anonymous rich investors' wallets.

If you add it all up, far more coins are being "on hold" right now, than ever before.

40000 here that will not be for sale any time soon. Might move more from my active trading wallet.

Please, make it rain! =) ANY Love ~>i'll keep the "LIGHTS ON" to 500+!!!

On the weekly chart we are just now starting to see the kind of growth that characterized mid to late March. (33% now vs 35%-46% then)

If things play out the same way now that they did then, we've got about 3 weeks left before some major exchange melts down and causes a panic.
In March, we went +55% in 4 days from 47$ to 73$ :
http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg60zczsg2013-03-18zeg2013-03-21ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zvzp

In the last 4 days, we went +59% from 169€ to 269€.

Wow, you may be right, maybe this bubble WON'T pop! (right now) I should have checked previous bitcoin increases more thoroughly...

Well, I guess in that case I'll just diversify into gold and silver with those "useless" € I just got trying to sell at the top...

Add to my math, but keeping it simple. If we do 266(top)/73 = 3.64
Then we can say X/269=3.64...   X= $980
Is that our top?  Grin

I have to say that's the top I have in my mind. My initial plan is to realize some profits at $700, and some more at $970. I mean... x30 profit on average is good enough to cash in some fiat for me. But I will keep most of my BTC stash for the long run Smiley

Brother Rampion, hope you are well!

You bring up a great point. I really wonder about selling some at 700 ish (to make up for my initial investment, or maybe 1/2 of it). Then just watch the next 5 years unfold.

Now, when BTC goes to 10,000 dollars, that is when we need to start giving away BTC's to organizations to change the world. Just think of what Satoshi could do there...
Remember, this is a disruptive technology, let's disrupt.

IAS

ps - Yes, the mining investments were bad for me too. But, we will still make our money back at higher prices, so just look at it as a hobby that pays for itself.

Like the perspective you put things in. Im proud of being part of this.

Lets disrupt. GO black swan  Grin

There are for sure smart investors here. But the basis of what BTC is, is about what Satoshi said. The banking system is corrupt. They profit from: war (killing), from the drug trade (Wachovia and HSBC laundered pretty close to a TRILLION I believe), from the drug war, imprisoning people with debt, etc.

Many BTC'ers represent what BTC itself represents, naturally. Good news for planet Earth.

BTC stands for something and those of you out there who have lots, I really hope you help to change the place. We have that power, just need a bit more time.

And the Universe just loves those that take chances on life. It opens doors for you.  (Think Terrence McKenna said something like that before.)

The total ask orders is still around 10000B on Mt.Gox, but it increases from 2000 to 5500 on BTCChina. I'm not sure what it means, but could be a sign that BTCChina is going to slow down.
In theory, the coins to trade *should* be less day by day. Big players should have got their $ by now and smaller players are now holding their part of BTC. From what I understand; the idea is for the coins to spread...

Big players = BITCOIN

BitStamp worked well during this flash crash. It's just not acceptable exchange to bug during these movements.

Well Gox had up to 20 minutes of lag during this crash, or at least that said the API. I think it is not acceptable after the mess we had back in April.. They've had A LOT of time to fix their systems...

At this point, instead of acceptable or not, I wonder about INTENTIONAL or not.

I don't understand the psychology of some people...they panic sell even when there is not even 1 single bad new in press. I understanded the panic sell after ddos attacks or end of silk road, here it is just speculation in its pureness, right?..Bitcoin must change these pure speculators to long time believers in cryptocurrency and they have to learn actually use the bitcoin as a currency, not just as get rich quick scheme. Until than....we are not even close to going mainstream.

However, i noticed btcchina was repeatedly down today...do you think it could have some effect on the price drop?

What makes you think it's a panic ?

You don't think some people sold in panic?...i don't think it was only people cashing out to take profits...i think many people are still in some level expecting big crashes and are scared by every 1% movement...especially now when we were reaching new ath almost every day, sooner or later we will come to a point (in some way, i believe it happened today, just in small version) where people will be more and more nervous as the price of btc (their profit) will become too siginificant to lose this kind of profit...and if you add some #1 exchange was down, many people must think the april is here again. Or do you have different opinion on the 20% drop?

No this is someone capitulating about 100K coins.

More like someone tricking a whole bunch of sheeple to dump 100K coins. The history of bitcoin has been thus that regardless of the ATH we always return to it. So someone's getting cheap coins right now.

mm' morning rabbit which way do you predict BTC will move today?  Grin tia!

I think I was one of the last ones to successfully withdraw from gox, thankfully pulled out all I needed to buy my house before the withdraw problems started.

Although it was at an average of $120/btc, missed the 266 bubble and this runup... Would have been way better off with a mortgage.
You can talk about sellers remorse in a couple of years.

Still got plenty more.

Besides, remorse is the 5000btc wallet lost to a corrupted bitlocker partition, or close to that lost to pirate.

Jesus Christ, I can't imagine.

Truly no way to recover that partition?

Sent it off to 4 data recovery companies. Almost all datas intact, but the bitlocker metadata (including master key) are corrupt... 256 bit AES key

Well keep it cryofrozen till one day in the future when they can fix that too. :-)

Pizza index: $4,000,000
If it wasn't a pizza for gods earlier, it is now.

The most expensive pizza in history. By far.

Platinum is the most expensive thing that you can buy from a metals market, beating gold and rhodium. For the amount mentioned, you can buy 11 pizzas made out of pure platinum (weighing 8 kilograms a piece due to platinum's density), and still have $150k left over, since it is not enough for making the 12th pizza.

Just scare tactics, I agree with you just stick to your own plan and don't let your position be manipulated by others. At least when you are wrong you can only blame yourself, it's worse if you're wrong because you didn't listen to yourself and let yourself be manipulated. Lol what are you talking about Grin?

There are 6 phases in a rocket launch you know:

1. Main Engine ignites and liftoff occurs.
2. Solid rocket boosters burn off their fuel and separate from the rocket. <- You are here.
3. Booster burns off fuel and jettisons from the rocket. The second stage or engine is revealed.
4. Second stage ignites and pushes the rocket farther along its path.
5. Payload fairing jettisons and reveals the payload.
6. The payload separates from the rocket and begins its mission in space.

Who made that engines? We need second cosmic velocity to escape from gravity. Some of the staff members are incompetent.

2) The word you are looking for is "fiduciary". "Fiat" means "let it be" and thus means that someone is in control.

fiat
ˈfiːat,ˈfʌɪat/
noun
1.
a formal authorization or proposition; a decree.
"the reforms left most prices fixed by government fiat"

Fiat money has been defined variously as:
any money declared by a government to be legal tender.[1]
state-issued money which is neither convertible by law to any other thing, nor fixed in value in terms of any objective standard.[2]
money without intrinsic value.[3][4]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_money

Bitcoin has ZERO value, except what we all agree it is worth.  Just like USD.  In fact, given the fabric USD is printed on, it's fair to say USD is actually "worth" more.

HAVE YOU SEEN 4:20 MONEY?LOL =)

If you know could know exactly when bitstamp would come back online to bitfinex then it would make for a great shorting opportunity.
I would do arbitraging instead of shorting, but hardly worth it due to trading fees.  Percentagewise the price difference is still small.
I have seen up to a 10% difference when it happens.

Making 10% on an arbitrage can get dwarfed by the loss in the opportunity cost of moving the fiat around rather than having had it in bitcoin.

There is too much risk associated in trading right now that Bitcoin price is so high, one bad trade and you can lost thousands of dollars, that hurts a lot.

This is not the same as when Bitcoin was worth 10 dollars, so people trend to trade less and less, at least common people.

I personally don't give a shit about volatility, dips or corrections, and unless the uptrend is clearly broken i will not sell one single satoshi.

I think most people feels the same.

I don't trade on traditional markets, so I'm just wondering the following. Take for instance Google stock, right now it's floating around 1000$. I can't imagine the Google stock has the same shitty market depth bitcoin has, e.g. 1000 bitcoins (or 1000 shares) dropping the price by 40$. Why is it that bitcoin has such bad market depth? The price keeps going up but a few big dumps could drop the price back to the low 300's. I can't imagine the same thing happening to Google stock.

ok let me make this simple ====>

http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/GOOG/company-info

GOOG : Shares Outstanding   276,721,703  @  $1033 price per share

BTC :  Coins (to be) Outstanding 21,000,000 @ $475 price per coin

*this is why/\BTC could see $10K+ in the coming months!*imho*  Cool

Traditional markets lie.

They let people trade with assets they don't actually have.

Soon enough, Wall Street will get involved and play fractional reserve games with Bitcoin trading.

When that happens just remember - only bitcoins that are in a wallet whose private keys you exclusively control are real. Everything else is just promises back by (potentially) nothing at all.

Anyway, if we follow that purple line indefinitely, I'm not complaining Smiley

We are already 50% over the monthly-average exponential trendline, so a retracement is possible any time.

If the price dipped to $400 right now, would you buy? $350? $300?

The fewer buyers, the more vicious the crash will be.

I think that if we go down from here, it will be 2-3 months maximum until we get back. Also $266 will not be violated. By bitcoin standards, this should hardly even be called a correction...Smiley

We needed more regulation around this bitch.

the rules of this thread is an attempt to keep this thread from having +1000 post when price is doing big moves, and instead relay important indicators during critical moments.
also when the market is more calm we can expect to see wall posts and TA price charts, back to back without any relevant chatting, making easier to analyze.
there are other threads where speculators can discuss their sentiment, just not here...

That 1000+ page thread was getting kinda useless.

How about bitcoinium.com pics? I can never get mtgoxlive to load Undecided

thats fine too,

no more coins on gox beyond 550. but i still have no idea how next week will play out …

$25 million on Gox on orderbook vs 12k BTC. ATH and ATL respectively. If Gox USD issues are as real as people say, the PANIC buying to move out BTC at considerable loss could be epic.

If Mark wanted, he could just pay the whole $25M from his left pocket (by selling BTC into it) and then Mt.Gox would not be short any USD.

can I get those 700 dollar bitcoins or not ? =) LMAO!

anyone care to tell me why this is:

mtgox: 598
bfx: 573
btce 537
btsmp: 522

bitcoin.de: 430€ aka 580$

mtgox: sure, they don't do so well on payments, thats the reason I see here for high prices.
bitfinex: wow, what the actual fuck?
bitstamp: why are they way lower? Sure they pay, but so does bitfinex. Is it because bitfinex is kinda new as an exchange (new design recently, so a big startover, ending beta-phase).
bitcoin.de: forget those germans, this looks kinda stupid to me.

So why is not bitstamp leading the price? They have around the same volume in trades as Mtgox has.

I'm guessing Stamp hasn't processed the wiretransfers from before the weekend yet and people have run out of USD to buy there. I know that Bitfinex doesnt have funds on Stamp anymore (BFX users can also trade on Stamp, but can only buy on Stamp when BFX has USD there, which they don't at the moment).

I'm expecting Stamp to pull back up in a few hours when the fiat lands there.

good thing i got dollars on there, bad thing I didnt buy days ago..

How do you know ? the crash has not started yet....

It is borderline possible that the "big crash" just started, but even if this is the case, BTC is not going below $250 and it takes no more than 4 months to surpass the old highs.

I just don't see the reason for big players to move just yet. Even I haven't moved or sold a single bitcoin during 200->600, because it is just too difficult to buy back in quantity. At 1500 it will be different, because there is money to be made after it crashes to 500.

By playing only big moves and playing them right, you gain much more than by worrying every 25% change in price.

When Gox was down in 11th April, I personally walked around the town buying goxbux and bought at $62-$90 next day. I think I made hundreds of BTC profit that week. I haven't made any profit since. This is not to underline how good I am. Just that you (collectively) would spend more time thinking and only execute the plan when you have one + the circumstances are right.

All those bitcoins came from the pockets of those whom I try to educate Wink

Does that include your power consumption?

heh power consumption being really really optimistic and selling at 600 bucks BTC at www.mtgox.com  minus the $7,131.80 USD I spent w/shipping (and not counting power supply)for the KNC Jupiter i have....I'm under those more then rosy conditions at 21 coins @$12,600 USD....minus $7131.80 that is $5,468.20 ahead and I'll have been mining 1 month tomorrow 11/18 as of 8:30pm CST USA.....as for electric it is a bit less then 100 bucks I think around 80 bucks but call it 100 cause I've been home a lot babysitting miner and giggling so more use on other computers and such this month

of course it will all go boom and I will probably be looking at 1/2 ROI on Monday after the U.S. House hearings ...or some such bad news...but hey that works too for 1 month of mining I have a Jupiter hashing 555gh consistent ..just put the new firmware on now 0.99 its hashing at around 564gh consistent....

heh been a good nite for me at least in the delusions of my own mind (yeah we are all insane it is only real variable that is constant in all this)

Searing

p.s. er as I ordered the Jupiter on July 1st I think BTC was 60 bucks or some such yeah better of getting BTC direct I would have been but no body imho noob wise jumps in with 7k or more in speculation...we always start with equipment...now in the future with how asic mnfg stuff trickles out etc etc I may change my tune but this is what I seem to hear how most start in bitcoin with miners (or did back in the early early days of summer 2013....)

And 25 days ago the price was $150.

$7,131.80/$150 = 47.54533333 BTC

47.54533333 * $600 = $28,527.20

You would have made more with buy and hold.

True but as I stated in previous posts with BTC at what $60 bucks last summer and being a noob I was unlikely to dump 7,131.80 out of the gate in pure speculation....at least this last summer everyone I knew doing bitcoin STARTED as a NOOB by mining...at least then...so yeah I agree with your point and may do more or all speculation in the future..but most people will ease in it slowly (or did) and will buy a piece of equipment that pays for itself first rather then plunk money down on a market speculation out the gate (I should coulda woulda done better doing the same with gold  a couple years ago to...also goes for the same in speculation on silver.....or flipping houses...etc ...but a piece of equip that at the time in say 7 months would pay for itself and make some coin after ..maybe enough to pay my home utils for 6 months ....zowie.....(remember we we're more modest in our hobby expectations back then ..or at least how I remember (remember Avalon? ...there are guys there who did quite well mining last summer WHEN  they got their equipment around that time I got my July order in for a Jupiter..which was risky enough with KNC being newer then wet paint as a company.

anyway again I agree woulda/shoulda but as a NOOB and imho it is very likely that trend will continue they will mine first and figure out this bitcoin stuff and then maybe buy/sell/hold more instead or in addition to mining..which is probably the area of the landscape of bitcoin you are at now....I'm probably heading that way too....

(ah yes if I'd only had the 'big brass ones' to buy at 60 USD..that BTC..tough sell last summer with everyone yelling how evil bitcoin was or so my feeble mind remembers)

as usual I'm clueless just saying

Searing

Could you show me such a system?

First you need to learn how to think like a trader, which is very similar to the way a professional poker player manages risk and variance.

Then you must study and learn how to create a system, is not a simple task because you are dealing with a huge numbers of variables, you always have to lose a little to avoid excessive risks and exposures.

It takes time but it is the only way if you wanna keep your money while doing trading.

A better route is to buy and hold, is the best strategy by far until now.

I recommend these books:

I agree this price cannot be sustained. No level headed investor is going to buy in at the top of a huge rally like this. Investing 101 says buy low and sell high, and most investors realize this. They are not going to continue to dump money into it on a huge upswing like this. It has gone up way too high & too fast to be sustained.

I would be very surprised not to see a flash crash down to the $300-$400 range this week. I expect this to happen any moment now. You can already see the market adjusting, but I doubt it will stop at $560. Even at $560 it's gone up too high & too fast to be sustained. Sorry bulls, but Bitcoin is not ready to be steady at >$550 just yet. This is just the middle of yet another bubble... this is not the first and it will not be the last.

Yeah, a guy last week wanted 5000 coins OTC.  There was a 1000 coin buyer today.  Get outta the house, I can't fill those orders.
Fast coins are worth more than cheap coins.  Exchange coins are slow coins.  How long does it take to move money to the exchange, and how many % have you lost in that time in the current market environment... 100%?

A runner... It truly baffles me people would even consider that scenario. People always have to think the worst.

Bitcoinica, Mybitcoin, inputs.io... Trusting people with your funds in this game has gotten many people burned. There isn't, and can't yet be, a single operator out there who could truly be trusted. No exchange has even been running long enough.

Personally, I have a lot of faith in Bitstamp, for example, but I don't trust them implicitly. Spectacularly trustworthy people have stolen or simply lost other people's money time and time again, and I'm sure we'll see big losses in the future as well.

Edit: To be clear, right now, I don't think Bitstamp is doing anything alarming. I have gotten everything I was supposed to get out from there promptly, so the "technical issues" explanation seems credible to me.

...It would be more plausible their account might be under 'close scrutiny' by their bank/financial services with millions of funds in and out and potential fraudulent wire.

It seems obvious to me that Unicredit has frozen their account, yet most seem reluctant to accept this possibility. All it takes is one bank employee to press a button.

Even if that was the truth, after investigation by their bank they must come to the conclusion they aren't doing anything illegal by running a bitcoin exchange. Yes they were missing the proper licenses, but surely this can be resolved by mtgox actually getting them and maybe paying a fine to the authorities. So I think in time, their accounts will be unfrozen.

IMO it in everyone's best interest (including manipulators, not including April-style conspiracy theories or 2011-stype Ponzi fears) that we had this major correction, but not for it to be seen as a bubble-pop, in order to make even better profits if/when it really pops once well into the 4-figures. Whether you prefer fiat or BTC, it's surely more beneficial for the correction to end around about the current price, give or take.

You think new money is going to come in after they saw the clear crash that just happened? That, and uncertain dodgy exchanges that hold no certainty in regards to regulatory and legal issues. I think we just need a better platform to trade bitcoins on, that holds no uncertainty in regards to regulation and law, and is operated by reputable people.

you clearly have no Idea, most big exchanges are AML and KYC applicant, and all new exchanges that will appear will have to apply as well in order to survive, the Problem of bubbles and crashes and corrections is not the weakness of the trading Platforms but the nature of Bitcoins.

Bitcoin rewards the early adopters and makes room for new comers, when the price go up so fast like we saw the last few weeks a correction/crash will most likely appear, I would like to remind you that after the silk road news the 1st of october BTC crashed to $85 and corrected to $115, this only a month and a half ago, so after 5 weeks the Price went strait to $900.

even if you are not that early adopter and invested in Bitcoins in october todays price gives you a sweet exit with huge profit, so imagine if you bought at $10, all what I am trying to say is that because of the nature of bitcoin, there will be allways crashes like this. except if price will riase slowly and healthy, I was expecting a crash but when it took this long I thought it wont happen before $1000.

but I am sure that people will always invest, all it will take is a look to the chart and they will understand that these things happens, I as a Bitcoiner and Litecoiner got used to this, I really dont care that much anymore, especially after hearing the positive comments from yesterday and before yesterday senate hearing.

why would I sell my Bitcoins or Litecoins anyways, I am sure they will be around for long time and I am sure that I will start using them in my daily life shortly and I had the best opportunity to get in before most of people.

Every time it's a bigger bubble, bigger losses, and more negative publicity. Which is why they won't buy in.
Which is why they will never buy. Which is why there will never be mass adoption. Which is why Bitcoin will never become all of the things we had hoped it would.

What are you talking about? The 2011 bubble was the biggest bubble of all and those who bought at the top would be sitting on huge profits right now. This drop from $900 to $453 is also peanuts compared to the crash in April, so the bubbles are only getting smaller and the losses as well. There is no such thing as negative publicity for bitcoin.

The only people who bought in 2011 are people who understand Bitcoin.
Again my point is take yourself to a normal person thinking strategy. Okay let me spell it out for you.
You now only have a high school diploma. You work at a factory, walmart, you're a waiter bartender whatever.
You have 3 kids, a tiny house, and a minivan.
You live paycheck to paycheck.
You took your savings ($10,000 or so) you put it into this Bitcoin thing.
Now you have $5000 worth of Bitcoin/savings.
You think they are still holding and hoping?
You think they haven't sold and are screaming and cryin at the top of their lungs I lost half of my life savings Bitcoin is the devil to everyone they know?

This is why it is bad. Because the people investing in bubble rises are people who think they will get rich quick (99% of the population which is why lottery is the most profitable thing for states) and when "healthy corrections" happen it's devastating to the reputation to Bitcoin and the bigger they get and the harder they fall the more negative news and I promise you the 99% don't know, care or believe in BTC technology they believe in their dollar and you Bitcoin took it from them.

This argument applies to every stock, which explains why nobody invests in the stock market.

I've seen it go down from 32 to 2 and it was a really bullish environment too until about 14. It was a long drawn out process with countless bull traps over the course of 6 months. Don't fool yourself thinking it can't happen again today. That's just the nature of humans.

China isn't buying it, apparently.

China is still selling...

Just watch the charts (24h).

Gox/Stamp up in the last few hours -> against the china trend

China looks more like 3000-3500 CNY.

It is so easy to sell in China. I started the selling program yesterday when I realized that the price had overshot:

- Open the account in BTC China
- After a few hours you get confirmation email
- You can fund your account instantly (no limit in funding)
- Selling works well and liquidity is good - today I have already bought 6.2M CNY  Grin

I managed to lose a trading password, needed for initiating transactions. They reseted it on the phone, doing overtime. The clerk spoke very good English. The KYC procedure is also reasonable. No trading fees. Why should I ever trade in the western snailexchange??

Oh yes. How to get back the profits? There is currently a healthy 24% arbitrage between Stamp and BTC China. If you sell now in China, you get $680 equivalent of CNY. When the premium evaporates (during the last 6 months, about half of the time premium has been about 0% and most of the time <10%), you buy back, transfer to Bitstamp, sell and pocket the money.

I don't see how China premium could not revert to <10% in the next 2 days.

What a retarded dump. epic failed.

The dumps serve twofold purpose:
- Opportunity to sell many coins at reasonable prices
- Scare effect.

occam says dump = taking profits

We don't need fiat profits.

The ones who are interested in fiat do not have so many coins that they could make a dent in the price. As I told above, dump is either manipulative speculation (I) or nasty manipulative speculation (II).

Remember - manipulators are never out of coins.
Yes but it looks like most of them might have $ signs on atm. That looked more like minnows than a whale, maybe just another shakeout though.

The battle is during the next 24-48 hours. If we can force China to stay below 4000, even better <3000, and make a row of daily red candles in western exchanges, then this was officially a bubble, and a bear market will commence for the remainder of the year. The price is still so high, it is profitable to sell and buy back cheaper -

Bitcoin doesn't need to be a currency to be successful. It will in fact be wildly successful even if only functioning as a store of value, the tax havens amounts to trillions. The first phase is speculation and this is where we are now... people believe in bitcoins future potential and that is what drives the price up and the large market cap will make it viable for large fortunes to be stored in bitcoin, eventually it will stabilize at much higher prices. At that point it will work well as a way to settle debt even if we're not able to do as many transactions as other networks I don't think it matters. Micro-transactions can happen off-chain, big money stored safely away from government and bankers.

How can big money be stored away safely if bitcoin is still tied to fiat currency? If fiat currency collapses, bitcoin no longer has anything to compare itself to, so how would we express value then? Using valuation in bitcoin itself? How would that work since there's a limited amount...

there are men with guns and state sanction to use them that beg to differ

Bank of Finland (branch of ECB; the Central Bank of Finland) has expressly stated that one is free to decide what he accepts as payment, and this may mean the exclusion of Euro, the official currency. Exception to this are government-sanctioned monopolies such as pharmacies. They are obligated to accept Euro as payment.

In theory, "Euro" is an unlimited number of banknotes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros, and maximum 50 coins per transaction.

In practice, "Euro" can mean credit and debit cards, even to the exclusion of cash altogether. Also many services do not accept 100 or larger notes, also many places accept more than 50 coins since they probably don't know that they could reject it. Or don't care.

*please get your "Euro trash" talk out of here ! I for one have heard enough of your spineless ramblings !!!  Cool  >> SECURITY!!! LOLLL

[

I have orders at Stamp for the rest of my fiat down to upper 400s - but I don't want to be left in fiat when new cash comes in....   The bears have another 96 hours or so, MAX.    I want to be all in BTC when the noob cavalry with the investor artillery comes riding over the hill.

Bear market will be done soon, then the medium / long bet MUST be UP if the exchanges remain (reasonably) reliable.

Have you seen Stamp's order book?   Bid's have exploded.  12.75 mil now.   I would be worried about being left with that fiat if I were you, the money is pouring in.
Dont make it worse ;'(

Explosion is due to a simple matter. Europe goes to sleep and prepares for flashcrashes. Of Bitstamp's bids, 5% are mine. When I wake up, I lift them and then the price may move again. Probably not the only one thinking like this..

We ain't trying to hear all that noise>>No one cares what you all are yapping about over there ....hmm with one exception! (see below)   Grin

Poor bears. Pockets full of fiat, feeling sad and lonely because the choo choo train is leaving them behind Cheesy

Just joking. Huge resistance at $650 on Stamp, BTC1,500 mini-wall (not so mini these days at the current exchange rate) not getting chewed.

For those who took profits in the $670-$700 range (Stamp) these were great moments. I personally managed to sell 10% of my stash at $675, re-bought at $420 and just sold again a few hours ago around $630. Let me add that it was mostly sheer luck, my intention was to just take profits and not to daytrade, but you cannot say no to such an opportunity Cheesy

Gotta love bitcoin....

So what happened  to bitcoin must crash to 50-40 in order to fly to the sky? Cheesy

It crashed to $50 on April 10th, tough Cheesy

Let me add that:

- being a bear is very satisfying*. If you are right, you are right; if you are wrong, you are rich Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
- I only daytrade during bear markets. I don't see how I can increase my BTC in a bull market, and increasing my BTC is the only purpose of daytrading for me.

*I assume that bear or bull, nobody sane is 100% fiat, ever. The chances of the choo choo train leaving you behind are too high. This is why even the super-bears as Blitz do not short BTC Cheesy

Is it shorting only when you are all out of coins, but when you sell 50% of your coins it isn't? I'm just curious because people use this word differently.

Shorting = borrowing coins to sell them, in the hopes that the price per coin will be lower when you have to give them back. A "short sell" is to sell an asset (BTC) you don't own, you just have borrowed it to sell it because you anticipate the price to go down.

That's extremely dangerous with BTC, because the price has the potential to double multiple times very quickly, and thus you can face huge losses by shorting.

That's what "shorting" means, but in these forums many people say they are "short" when they have sold coins, which is not correct. What can you expect in a forum where most of people thinks that ROI is a synonym for break-even....

the big difference is that bitcoin can be instantly delivered so if you call in the short you don't have 14 days to cover!~i love it!!!  Cheesy

Oh boy, China is awakening and if Gox breaks through the $700 barrier, we will be getting VERY close to confirming no dead cat bounce.

Very interesting to see what happens here. Wall is building at $700 so I do not think this is going to be easy. How quickly we move through this resistance will let us ALOT about where and how fast we are going.

"Shorting" is that you own any asset that you don't need, but you decide to not sell it and purchase bitcoins instead.

you really don't know much about the market..I can tell  Cool lmfao
