I'm waiting for the bull to say "we're still in stealth phase".

I live in a town of 12,000 where only about a dozen people have heard of it and I'm the only one who owns any. Yeah, we're still in the stealth phase.

yep, I live in New Zealand, and it seems the same. none of my friends know about it, Im trying desperately to teach them. I think it will take another 2 years before the mainstream will all go out there, download a wallet, and buy $100 of bitcoin each. those will be happy days.
Yes I told my brother to invest $500 when BTC was at $200 and he acted like it was monopoly money that people are pumping. "I don't trust it"...

Just got home, not gonna bother catching up with the last 30 pages of probable nonsense,

But I just watched the first segment of the first panel today, and sorry for the serious but I'd like if some of you could offer an opinion on the following.

Cyrus R. Vance, the very first person to speak, chooses to start with a case of money laundering, of course. Money laundering is the catch phrase and it's designed to put a negative image on bitcoin. They will repeat it again and again when asked about bitcoin.

The interesting thing is that they were laundering fiat dollars acquired from the theft of credit card information, using western express. This crime can't even happen with bitcoin. There is no credit card information to steal in the first place.

I think the reason they are going to try to vilify bitcoin and try to regulate the shit out of it so that they can maintain their monopoly on the money laundering business.

What do you think?

Yeah the concept of "Identity theft" will not be a problem with Bitcoin. So another group that will lobby against Bitcoin is Identity Theft protection companies.

It is obvious to me that with the BTC China bank deposit re-acceptance news, people began to buy BTC at there.
Immediately, someone sold those exact amount just to keep the price stable. What a trade volume!
Being successful, people gave up making short profit. Significant volume down.
I call it price control... but who and why? when does this "project" finish?
The moment it finishes, price would start to move. I don't think it would be downward.

I think it's just some bot testing

Right. A bot went berserk and sold/bought the same coins again and again.

BTC China back on track with the largest volume traded ?! Not even one day after the announcement ?

As others have observed, that was not real trade. It was some robot, probably buggy, frantically selling to itself. It was turned off after 3 hours and ~40,000 BTC traded.

BTC-China should expunge that fake volume from its records.  If not, chart makers should do it.  In reality BTC-China is still quite dead.

Their bank must be closed for the New year holidays, so BTC-China should not have received any new money yet.

By the way, that market ranking site does not even list Huobi, which has the largest volume of them all (twice as much as OKCoin).

My paranoia sees an ongoing conspiracy to deny the very existence of Huobi and push customers towards BTC-China (and Mt.GOX).  She is wrong of course.
Er... why would they do that? They don't want to look "still quite dead"! This might even be their doing!  Shocked Cheesy

what does "bitcoin days destroyed" mean exactly???

It's really simple once you "get it" but it took me a while to wrap my head around it too.  I'll try:

If you send me 1 BTC and I spend it tomorrow, when I spend it, I will have destroyed 1 bitcoin-days.

If I wait till next month to spend it, when I spend it it will destroy 30 bitcoin-days.

But I you send my 60 BTC and I spend them 12 hours from now, it would also destroy 30 bitcoin-days.

So, it's a combined measure of the magnitude and oldness of the coins that are being spent.  If we see a huge spike in the amount of bitcoin-days destroyed, it's a good indication that someone just moved a lot of old coins.

Interestingly: something akin to bitcoin-days is used by the bitcoin-network to determine the priority of a transaction.  AFAIK:

priority = (# of BTC) * (age) / (size of TX in bytes)
This sounds like POS to me... Does this mean that the Bitcoin code could be changed to implement POS easily (if the miners agreed)

exchanges should make it impossible to fill your own orders.

Not a chance.  It removes the option of "cross trades".

e.g You are a broker who has order to buy 200 and sell 100.

The broker would then buy 100 and then "cross" 100, resulting in 200 bought and 100 sold.

This is critical in open outcry exchanges.
Why not cancel the sell 100 order, buy 100, and avoid paying fees on 100?  Huh

In the context of stocks, it does not seem to be useful to think of "the Apple stock market" or " the Google stock market", except when "market" is short for "supply and demand".

It seems more useful to think that there is just one stock market, where the stocks of all companies are traded together.  That's because traders can quickly sell one stock and buy another as they see fit.  New investment money that comes into one stock promptly "diffuses" to other stocks.  Thanks to arbitrage traders, one can even think of all stock exchanges of the world as a single market.

Methinks that the same is happening in the world of crypto-currency, with regard to both the exchanges proper and the support network.

The most reputable (or least disreputable?) crypto exchanges seem to be well connected by arbitrage, so that prices tend to rise and fall together.  Several already trade two or more crypto-coins, against each other and against national currencies.  Many traders already own and play with several types of crypto-coins at the same time.  So perhaps we should start thinking of "the crypto-coin market" instead of "the Bitcoin market", "the Litecoin market", etc.

As for the support network, it seems that many miners will direct their efforts to whatever crypto gives the best return at the moment.   So, even though the blockchains are independent, we should perhaps think of just one Crypto-Coin Network, that supports all cryptos according to usual cost/profit principles.

Does this make sense?
Complete sense  Wink

You just got Goxed. Money goes in not out. How else could they stay in business if they let people have their money back?

I just withdrew 0.2 BTC without an issue.

And how do you expect that choo choo to happen? Based on what?
It's clear nobody is just gonna buy. People are way too afraid at these prices. We've had some huge companies accept Bitcoin. It made the price drop. Or well not directly but it suddenly didn't make it go up. That and then also the slightest hint of negative news and people completely shit their pants and sell. As much as i want the train to leave again i don't see how it will happen. I have the feeling a lot of people think we reached the top and want to get out.

Then you should sell all your coins. Oh, wait, you already did, right?

Suppose that the price of a BTC fell to 100 USD while its transaction volume kept increasing.  Would mining still be profitable?

it depends how you look at this situation, basically if we look at the USD value and the cost of the hardware and energy, internet, cooling... small miners are barely making any profit at today's prices, now if you look to profit in terms of BTC then small miners are not making any profits at all and this is due to the fast difficulty rises since April...

So most of miners will have to hold their bitcoins and wait for a higher price to break even in USD, and most of miners that were aiming for BTC profits has realized that the BTC ROI is getting harder and harder to achieve but this will settle down when the ASIC era is over, it was the same case when mining switched from CPU to GPU...

That big dump in stamp gave me two thoughts:
1) An old miner/investor saw that the price isn't going anywhere, but he was in profit anyway so he just dumped, without caring much about the loss of an sudden dump.
2) The current stability is is an illusion created to keep the price high so "the right people" can get their money out with better profits. When small buy walls come up to 800, then they will get eaten. Maybe there just was enough buys near 800 and it seemed profitable for one dump and then nudge the price back to 800, then wait and repeat the process. It currently seems that because of low volume, it's not very hard to keep the price where you want it.
2) The current stability is is an illusion created to keep the price high low so "the right people" can get their bitcoin with better prices. When small sell walls come down to 795, then they will get eaten. WTF is going on?

Panic sheep going omg sell! Just be happy. This just had to happen.

It would seem that the "panic sheep" haven't been selling.  Here's how I remember today:

- BitcoinTalk went down (DDoS?)
- Huge dump on BitStamp (1000+ BTC)
- Huge volume on Gox dropping the Gox premium dramatically.  Little correlation seen at the other exchanges.
- Apple pulls Blockchain.info app from AppStore
- Bitfinex goes buggy (hack?)
- Another huge dump of BitStamp (2000 BTC)

I'm surprised how well we're holding up.

When you've been through this a couple of times, you learn to recognize the buying opportunities.

Throwing the Apple stuff out for a moment and setting the Gox stuff aside, the other things look like a coordinated attack. I mean, the 2nd dump on Bitstamp could have been someone scared shitless on Bitfinex, but the first dump that happened with the DDOS and then, if it turns out Bitfinex was toyed with, then, yes, this would seem like a coordinated attack.

Interesting that people are screaming market manipulation, but these same people don't mention the fact that over and over and over again BTCtalk gets ddosed at the same time dumps happen.
why would they do that? to create FUD?

Welcome to Whale Wars™, Episode 4.

- the Stability-For-Prosperity rebellion has been doing everything to keep the price around 800. This has been going of for a few weeks.
- the Cheap-For-Grabs alliance has now launched a universe-wide attack in an attempt to bring the price down. Huge dumps in conjunction with DOSing major charting apps and forums are aimed at blurring the rebellion's vision so they can't react and buy back before it's too late. The second goal is to hide the market movement from the small fish until the price goes down a lot (if it goes down), at which point the DOSing will stop so the fish see the huge drop in surprise and start panic selling.

It's doubtful whether the alliance's plans will have the intended effect, but the ride shall be a joyful one. This is history in the making guys.

Being a herd animal is a valid survival strategy for most, but surviving isn't living. Being a cowboy on the edge of the heard on the verge of stampede, that's living.

If you believe in Bitcoin, hold your ground. Pick up some cheap coins when they are available. If you don't believe, it's ok. We'll take your coins. We don't need you, so vaio con Dios. The world needs losers or being a winner wouldn't mean anything.

Fully Bitcoin once again. Choo-choo!

Patience is a virtue.  Smiley

Truth to be told, I'm more comfortable holding Bitcoin, nevermind the current market price.

Sure, if you sell at the peak and buy at the bottom, you can pocket the change if done correctly. But it's a lot of stress and sleepless nights for maybe a 20% profit, if executed perfectly.

Or you can just buy some Bitcoin every now and then and hope it will go up over time, just like it always has.

No it is a multistage bulltrap. Each wave features:
1. An immediate bounce (yesterday)
2. A 1 hour MACD cross (yesterday)
3. A 4 hour MACD cross (imminent)

The one large wave that takes 2 weeks to complete (like the one in May from 88 to 115) also features a 1 day MACD cross, so it has 4 stages.

Illegal and immoral are not the same thing.

Whatever you try to force onto peaceful people using the violence and coercion of the state may be legal, but it isn't moral.

On this point, I am with you and aminorex.  I'm not in support of gov. watchdogging everyone. We should be able to have some anonymous transfers; there are good reasons and there should remain ways to do it.   But being realistic, I don't see how bitcoin can become bigger than it is without some integration and sacrifice on some points.

Fair enough if you don't see it (yet).

I agree that maybe Bitcoin will integrate with organised crime (governments and banks) or sacrifice its original goals. Who knows. But other technologies will take over within months and grow even bigger than Bitcoin.

I know it is easy to simplify things that much.  Cheesy Most of the times what the government does it has already allowed itself to do. Even the NSA's programs were approved, by a secret court.

ermmm slightly off topic but... I think I just got spammed on the blockchain !

Just recived a tiny amount of BTC twice in a temporary hotwallet I use sometimes..

Two messages with two words in "enjoy" + "sochi"

looked up the address I got the coins from in google and found this reddit

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1xenyd/just_received_weird_tiny_payments_1sochi_1enjoy/

Think I may have to do some dusting
How does this work? Too lazy to read all in Reddit but I got an idea. I withdraw a little from btc-e today and the withdraw came out just normal but after it there was an other transaction coming that showed 0.00btc in my mobile app, maybe it was one like this also. Are these spamming transactions so small that they don't really happen even you get a incoming transaction in your wallet but no btc really comes to your wallet because the fee would be bigger than these transactions?
Right now every address that gets sent BTC is also spammed 1 satoshi. This never gets confirmed though so is not spendable... The sender bundles many many addresses into one transaction.

your feelings matter but you're ostensibly a man, so you should know that they don't.

Seriously, if you think like that then your idea of being a 'man' is pretty juvenile and you are a pretty strong contender to have mental health issues.

You could argue that emoting is more useful than thinking. You would be wrong, but you could argue that. What you can't credibly say is that juveniles more typically act on what they think as opposed to what they feel, especially when compared to mature adults. You just discredit yourself when you do that. Same goes for comparing men to women, unless you get all your info from The View.

God, you're annoying. On ignore. Bye.

That's one thing i don't get, and people still trade there?
They have to trade there if at all. Some there will temporarily increase their holdings but others will lose equally and GOX will eventually swallow almost all of the currency. all ur currency are belong to gox

The Gox announcement was bad, but the transaction malleability DDOS was much worse and left a smaller dent. Without another disaster, the worst is behind us. If we follow the pattern of earlier rallies, and corrections, we slowly build upward momentum from here, but nothing parabolic for a while.

I don't believe, volume was very low below $600.

No, it wasn't, but it sure as hell was this time and it's still going up. who's gonna panic sell now that hasn't sold already? Who's gonna dump now except for profit takers? The only thing that would bring us back down is more bad news and it would have to be more than FUD.

There was 5k below $600, less than 1k below $550. Not a lot. I was arquing upward momentum, not much more dumping. Also there was not a lot of people awake in EU (middle of the night).

There isn't a lot of upward momentum yet, but when the glitch is fixed and withdrawals resume, it will come.
Do you think it will be fixed soon?

Here's a question:

What happens to your nation's currency when you go "all in" on bitcoin?

Meaning, the government of said nation (Cypress? Singapore?) fully embraces bitcoin and allows banks to freely exchange their national currency for bitcoins.

The specific question I have is would that make the relative value of that nation's currency rise or fall versus all the other nations?

I don't think you can know that in advance.

yeah, but you could speculate? please?

That original post I just blurted that out there, and my question is true, I honestly would like to hear some opinions on this topic.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what might happen when the first nation puts the green light on bitcoin, but my first thought is that other currencies might rush into your currency because of the easy exchange into bitcoin (or something like it).

Basically you would take over the US as the issuer of the new world's reserve currency.

Or maybe you just piss off the other nations enough that they quit dealing with you all together and you end up like a free decentralized and open North Korea?
The nation's currency would most likely locally lose value and therefore relatively lose value compared to other nations' currencies. But since the country now uses Bitcoin, then Bitcoin will be more valuable then other nations' relatively... I have no clue  Tongue

If Gox fixes their BTC withdrawals problem before they fix their fiat withdrawal problems, the price there will go vertical, but I doubt you would be able to get your money there to trade before this happens. Even if it does, your fiat profits would be trapped for however long it takes to get it out, possibly forever.

Try to get your money to whichever exchange will let you buy before this transaction malleability problem gets fixed. I'm guessing you don't have much time.

I doubled my coins on this dip  Cool

A lot of it was luck though rather than good trading sense...
With Bitcoin's volatility all you have to do is wait until you can sell higher than you bought or buy lower then you sold.  Cool

LOL exactly what I've been thinking hahah. Unless of course it is MtGox themselves doing it and they just give themselves the money. It would seem to either be MtGox doing this to help themselves in some way, or someone or some organization that wants Gox or BTC dead. Though if it was an organization that wanted BTC dead, you'd think they'd just put these sell bots on every exchange and not just MtGox .
Are you SURE it is really a bot, and a single one at that? And are you sure it is doing no buying? They can't sell too much for too long, noone has unlimited funds.

Not sure about anything haha, all just theories, but it certainly appears to be a single bot with the timing it has. Could be a single bot owned by many people, or multiple bots in sync, no way to know. It could also be selling through its own walls.
And pay 1% fees each time?  Cheesy

Still massive dumps of Goxcoins, seems like people think they are worthless after all

as the poll indicates, clearly poeple have very little confidence they will resume withdrawals as promised.

are poeple trading gox on superior information or emotion... that is the question.

I pulled my funds out at a ~15% loss precisely so I wouldn't have so much riding on the answer, but if I did have funds there now, I'd buy when the discount reaches 60% over Stamp. I think there's a >40% chance goxBTC is recoverable. GoxBux, OTOH, I put at ~20%. Poor bastards. It's like people fighting over flotsam off the Titanic with all the lifeboats full. Still, it may be a big opportunity for someone willing to take a big risk.
The market disagrees with you  Smiley If it agreed, then GoxBTC would be trading at $1200.
I put the chances for both at 99% as the Mt. Gox people will be locked up if they don't deliver.

If those ATMs are successful they will spread like wildfire. Despite all this FUD, mass adoption is on its way.
Mass adoption is only if people actually use them. But if every person sees it and thinks "What is bitcoin? Oh it's this highly volatile speculative commodity with no protection. Why would I use that instead of a bank with fiat?" then it might not be mass adoption after all.
Bitcoin has a long way to go towards mass adoption. Right now we are seeing too much hype and pumping, with too little actual adoption.

From where I am sitting things can go either 2 ways here.

Mt Gox survives which means the market won't go any lower than it currently is.

Mt Gox dies and there will be one more big dip.

So the last question remaining is how low will the market go if gox dies?

I am starting to think that whether gox live or gox dies is going to be irrelevant a year from now when at the very least people are gonna wish they had bought in at $625.

its weird i see it the other way around....

Mt Gox survives market will dip on the arb. grab

Mt Gox dies, its finally over, bitcoiners around the world rejoys as price rockets to toward infinity
I highly doubt that... at least short term the price will fall

Let's panic sell on Stamp because a non functioning exchange goes down.

Looking good thus far...complete detachment?

Actually no, it doesn't look good. We're at 560 now. Every time there is a dip on Gox Bitstamp goes down 10 or 20 dollars and doesn't recover. Gox is taking Stamp down. It's that simple.

Gox went down from 160 to 97 while Stamp went down from 590 to 565!!!

40% decrease compared to 5% decrease!!

A good question.

I've been watching the gox show for a few days, and I have convinced myself that the panic of the first days is gone.  So, then, why all of the selling?  The market sells were so efficient that I begin to wonder if someone, could be a group, wants the price to tank.

The questions then become, who and why?
The group is: everyone
The reason is: buy at a lower price and profit

Yeah, they are interested in not manipulating, especially when it is very soon after the buy order is placed. Selling when a wall is there does only fear while selling without a wall causes ⇩...

Is anyone else struck by the irony that the community has been demanding Mark's resignation for weeks now, but when he actually resigns the market responds with a 50% drop?

Is that accurate, or is there some part I'm missing here?

Doesn't mater that this buying pressure just came out of thin air and no one was interested in buying 580$ coins before that big wall ;-)

Smart traders want profit. There are no smart buyers with bitcoin. If someone buys bitcoins without the intention to trade, then that one sadly can't be smart.
Smart traders want profit. There are no smart buyers with bitcoin. If someone bought bitcoins when they costed less than 1 dollar without the intention to trade, they are smart. If someone buys bitcoins without the intention to trade and they are worth $1 million next year, then they are smart. If someone bought bitcoins when they were less than a dollar with the intention to trade, then they inevitably sold when they were $10 if they were smart, and therefore are stupid because they lost out on their bitcoins going to 1000 dollars.

so what ultimately determines wages is productivity

unfortunately, the data has shown that this is not true anymore, and hasn't been for more than 4 decades.

---

there is very much so such a thing as a natural monopoly and if you disagree you are at odds with basic economics. you also conveniently forgot to address every other item on that list. there is no "free market" ideal, there is only the apparatus that exists, and the present apparatus rewards huge negative externalities and is perpetuating and accelerating wealth inequality, both things which render it unsustainable in the long term. high rates of unemployment coupled with wage suppression creates poverty traps worse than the welfare state. we're not talking about "Capitalism" or "The Free Market", we're talking about global capitalism as it exists today, and the global market. the ills are most certainly not the sole fault of governments, and scapegoating them in this way is a dangerous misdirection away from the real issues endemic in the apparatus that are contributing to the suffering of millions...

in other words, i don't care about your lofty Randian free market ideals. while capitalism may be "the best solution we can aspire to", and that would be hard to disagree with, it is also clear that our present form of global capitalism is suffering from a huge amount of inefficiencies, many of which cannot be attributed to meddling governments. how can we reconcile these two things? i have no clue, but we've first got to get our heads out of our asses and stop worshipping the sacred cow long enough to think critically about why the apparatus is failing at efficiently distributing resources.

Whatever happened at MtGOX, it is certain that some 500,000 BTC now belong to a thief or scammer.  Added to other scams and thefts, known and unknown, it may be that more than 1 million BTC now belong to bitcoin criminals.  If those people go unpunished and get to keep their bitcoins, such crimes will not stop with MtGOX.

So, if bitcoin succeeds like his most ardent fans believe, perhaps 10% of all the money supply in the world will belong to criminals.  You want me to root for that?  Angry

INDIVIDUAL consent is the only consent that means anything. If we voted to kill all the Jews or some other minority and take their stuff, it would not be legitimate merely because the decision was popular. It's no more legitimate if that minority is the rich, provided they came by their wealth honestly.
hmm we don't want mob rule so... we will think of a better solution!

Agenda:
1. have people elect politicians and give all sovereignty to them.
2. have elected politicians hold elections according to how they like.
3. make voting power disproportional according to how elected politicians want.
4. have elected politicians control everything.

Perfect, we have our republic! We will call it representative democracy, or for short (however incorrect) democracy.

Now see, this is the only good way because the other way might have a possibility of infringing on minority rights.  Shocked We could become like Germany and kill off all of the Jews if we had mob rule. Note: The Nazi party came into power under a representative democracy, and then banned opponents (minority) with their power. They then killed all Jews (minority) they could. This however will be ignored for the sake of argument. See if a small group of elites controls everything, and public will is blurred, then clearly it would be impossible for minority rights to be infringed upon.

Quote
CEO of China official ban Bitcoin

Following China 's plans to ban bank transfer rumors to Bitcoin exchange , CEO bitcoin ™ has decided to ban Chinese .

The decision was adopted unanimously by the shareholders of Bitcoin , about Bitcoin Board , HaCkerz4BITZ and Bitcoin 's steering committee.

April 8 , Bitcoin and from the glory of the People's Republic of China will no longer be supported by the Bitcoin network ™ . The decision will not affect China 's Republic of China ( Taiwan ) - unless it is aggression simultaneously. It is unclear whether it will apply to Hong Kong , which is a little part of China, but in reality it is not - you know what?

Preemptive ruling People's Bank of China

The decision was announced by the bitcoin am CEO Warren Winkleberg ™ by reddit (Tuesday ) . It is composed of the following members of the Bitcoin community , China 's exchanges and Dorian S in the own extensive discussion.

Although there are some dissenting voices, they were drowned in a lengthy discussion , thanks to Godwin 's law - and therefore decisions are consistent.

As a result , Bitcoin company ™ decision to China 's official People's Bank of China (PBOC) notice is expected to effectively prohibit banks from doing business Bitcoin exchanges in China, which happens to be the first to be announced fully -owned subsidiary of Bitcoin the company ™

Warren Winkleberg said:

"Given China's imminent decision to ban Bitcoin exchanges, we have no choice but to completely ban China , we know that this decision will affect the long-term price of Bitcoin and proliferation , but frankly , we have no choice . "

"We have to act in the best interests of our shareholders and global bitcoin ™ investors , " he added .

Reaction , rebound, anti- backlash reaction

Internet ™ 's KalEl Al - Al Gore 's chief executive officer told CoinDesk, although this decision is controversial, in the grand scheme of things , this will help in the Bitcoin community as a whole and the Internet ™ . He added:

" China 's Great Firewall has hindered the development , erode our profits over the years here, in the internet ™, we know that certain circles , restrictive policies advocated by the Chinese government may adopt a new growth and the devastating impact of technology and I should know, I invented the Internet ™. "

"In addition, carbon dioxide emissions caused by the firewall is caused by China 's air quality problems , they have become a public health issue and we all need to reduce our carbon footprint ."

Dogecoin ™ CEO , Chairman Shibah iNews said:

In addition, bitcoin miners Socialist Union warned that the decision would not do much to help China 's Bitcoin miners, who are often forced to difficulties in the absence of union protection under the harsh conditions of instability bitcoin mining work.

"The children were forced to mine block to the main block chain , but the difficulty is astronomical - and these kids do not even make the transaction costs they're digging , " the investigator told the premier news source Bitcoin 's Coinion last December .

Even Apple has asked the authorities to investigate thoroughly .

"It's worse than Foxconn , we do not believe this is whatever , but it was," Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted response. " It's almost inhuman to read the terms of iTunes service ."

Wild price fluctuations

The move is expected to result in greater volatility on the currency market has been a bit turbulent . Many Chinese investors and exchanges, is expected to start dumping their bitcoins held in the coming week . This could trigger a chain reaction , causing many investors to the former price of tanks, please uninstall your wallet .

Bit o coin prices fell | create infographics

However, it is seen as speculators and even some government a chance. Ukraine rumored to be planning to acquire up to $ 1 billion worth of bitcoins , it plans to use it to repay its $ 1.6 billion natural gas bill and angered Russia in this process .

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not leave a deep impression.

. " I bought into bitcoin $ 14 and $ 800 to sell all my prince, " he said, adding : "Under the leadership of Vladimir Putin , Russia 's Bitcoin exchange you."

Analysts expect prices bottoming out later this month , but it does when we come to spend a few weeks in negative territory , literally .

This is not all bad news. Speculators can expect if they pounce at the right moment huge returns. In related news , the mountain. GOX is widely expected to miraculously "discovered" hundreds of thousands of Bitcoin once, they are worth very little .

Abstract
Although it is widely believed that Satoshi was an inflation-hating goldbug he never said this, and in fact programmed Bitcoin's money supply to grow indefinitely, forever. He modeled the monetary supply as 4 gold mines being discovered per mibillenium (1024 years), with equal intervals between them, each one being depleted over the course of 140 years.

This poses obvious problems, however. Prominent among them is the discussion on what to call 1 billion Bitcoin, which symbol color to use for it, and when wallet clients should switch to it by default.

The chinese whale had pushed the price to 490 to squeeze all the shorts, now he has achieved this he is spilling blood from the buy high sell low group.

Thanks bangersdad. I thought 500 would not broke without more volume but I wasnt expecting a fall this quick ! It's true walls were pretty thin. Now it seems both ask and buy walls are being rebuilt.

Monero is very interesting.   The technology has been proven for about 2 years in BCN.  MRO is a clone with no private mining phase.  I have not yet fully evaluated the technology claims, but it is purported to be a robustly anonymous cpu-only coin.  I think that the strong performance of DRK is proof that stronger anonymity is highly valued by the market, even where it is known to be defective.  If MRO anonymity is a robust as it appears to be, it should displace DRK and BCN very rapidly.  It is immature, a fork of the BCN codebase, which is not derived from BTC codebase, but I can easily see this displacing BTC for most use cases, because it does not have the "fairness taint" of DRK and BCN, so it appeals to miners, and it seems cryptographically superior to any of the alternatives.   It is not yet exchange traded.

Yes, MRO and BCN are the most anonymous coins out there at the moment. I also think MRO may come to replace Bitcoin, or maybe Zerocash will do that.
