I'm with wachtwoord on this.

I'm in BTC as a binary investment, it goes to $0 or >$50K before I really care, and at that point whether I bought in at $500 or $1000 per coin really makes little difference, either I've lost my gambling money or I'm very comfortable (I'm pretty modest in my needs, no lambo for me).

So while it's fun to watch the chart, I'm not too worried about the dips and rises, it's all about the trend.

Just my .02BTC

You might be onto something there, I've never really thought about it that way Smiley

U want out of Australia?

U clearly have no idea how good you guys have it there compared to just about everywhere else.

While true, it is getting a lot worse; and increasingly so. I just hope people wake up to the fact and turn it around before it's too late. Sadly people are inherently lazy and would rather sit and watch their country fall to shit than get off their ass and do something about it

Looking good boys (and girl)

I have a workmate so stupid he bought at 13k, has been holding all this time and tell everybody he will sell as soon as price is back to what he payed. Everyday he curses me aloud for suggesting him to buy BTC back in 2017, and gets triggered when I ask him why selling for the same price after an year if the odds now are that he can make at least some profit. He became a BTC hater.

Yes! He just sold! Weak hand, didn't even wait for 13k!!!

if he is a bitcoin hater now, i wonder what he will be when bitcoin shoots beyond 100k in a few years/months/hours.

Good for you!

When did you start the process. I’m still patiently waiting. Did they ask for much info?

About 10 days ago mate... not much info asked for. I let them know some PMs I had in my account in my initial contact, told them I couldn't sign an address to verify the account. Then I got sent a link to log my IP address... a few hours later received a message that the account would be unlocked in 7 days and that I could do a password reset then. Sure enough got the email 7 days later (today) did the reset and BOOM! Here we are!

Using a passphrase nullifies this exploit AFAIK.

Whats behind me cannot hurt me. Cheesy

But then again hitting a tornado at 120 almost did.

I didn't see your 1pt font line until I quoted your comment to reply, it didn't even register on my eyeballs.

So I'm abandoning my previous reply to ask you this: Were you trying to just speed through the tornado, or, why didn't you turn around?

It came out of no-where, one second it was sunny and then I was in a rainstorm (the rain was nailing my hands like needles) and hit an exit with a river pouring down it and hydroplaned up the thing went between 2 cars and layed the bike down so as to not hit the rail while up and flip over onto the highway. I got really lucky that day, only ground half a kneecap off. I did end up getting a staff infection a week later as the Doc left some road in my leg and spent a few weeks fighting for the leg (apparently i should have gone right in and not walked around a week on it all swollen up) but no lasting repercussions except i had the nickname crash at the barracks for awhile after that. Grin

That sounds intense.  Glad you came out of it ok

Lads - tell us all a story. What is the best way you almost died?

My most memorable was a few years back driving my GTR. I say memorable because I wasn't driving like an idiot it was just a freak occurrence. Driving along in the rain up in the hills on the way to my now wifes house back when she was living up there with her sister and came around a long sweeping bend; nothing unusual just like the other hundred or so times I'd driven the road. All of a sudden I'm facing the opposite direction hydroplaning into a massive tree (the only one for a few hundred meters of course) I somehow wrangle back control, come to a stop, gather my thoughts and think how lucky I was had a car not been coming the other way. Really opened my eyes to just how things can change when you're even doing everything right. I assume there was some oil or something of the sort on the road that caused me to lose control like that but I'm always cautious of that bend now... bad experience

Yeah thats pretty scary.

Was there a slight dip in the road in the bend?  Dips scare the crap out of me.  You don't really notice them and you go flying along and suddenly your suspension is unweighted and the front wheels dont want to connect to the pavement and you can't steer.  Worst is a bend just after a crest.  Come flying up over the crest and sail straight through the bend and into whatever is on the far side.

Nope, no dip, just a perfectly smooth road. Like I said I'd driven that road 100 times before and have probably done so 100 times since. Was a freak occurrence but certainly scared the shit out of me

I know you'll hate me for this but is this the right time to get some shitcoins?  Grin Maybe with the 0.5% of the crypto portfolio? It can surely go down a lot more but what if It goes up?  Grin

XMR and LTC looks so cheap. Especially LTC. Shiet it is 0.007. I dumped mine at somewhere around 0.016 or 0.018 Wew! Feelsgood man. I can get back more than double of what I sold now but not sure If i really want them.

There will be a price point, it will become so cheap, some people won't be able to resist, no matter how pointless and shitty these alts are. It is all part of the speculation.

Maybe It is better to wait for the BTC ATH before making that decision and only then invest %1-3 in shitcoins.

*No need to mention: the aim is to get more bitcoins without getting bamboozled by the altcoin hodlers.
** I have that fuckface on ignore and I never ever read the post that quoted him. I advise you to do the same.

For me, the only alt I really bother with is XMR. I believe in that project and I like the devs.Been a great community from the start and continues to be so. "Tabula Rasa" sounds a bit frightening, too.

One more BTC bull run and that's it. I'll be unemployed, living on passive income just like makrospex.

makrospex is living on passive income?  Bitcoin?  I did not know that.  Any opsec issue(s), here?

Yep he does. The man is living the dream. Skateboarding at 40's, no work, fuck all.

Check below:

Yes, i see BTC as the digital gold. Maybe all future e-currencies are valued against Bitcoin, why not?
Most people in my environment are dumb, they call BTC a hoax. My brother in law wanted to invest in Bitcoin when it was around $350, and his father talked him out of it, into some kind of fund-based asset (i don't know the english term for this). He called his father an idiot in 2017, of course, but the latter still thinks he was right. This is the second "nearly"-coiner i knew to date. The other one had Bitcoins, but only for Silkroad and the likes. He never held them longer than for some weeks.
When you even talk about Bitcoin here, you are suspect to criminal activity, money laundering or you are seen as a moron who wants to lose all his money. They think it's child play, regardless what the facts are, they always know better. This is normality where i live, i am the megageek. I'm skateboarding at age 40+, i'm living on passive income, so i got that "strange freak that does not go to work" image and most people are intimidated by my presence, excluding very few, close friends and family members.
My mother and my wife are the only persons that know that i got the corn. The average IQ in my neighborhood can't be much more than a weak 90 at max.
A guy like RealRoach would be a respected mayor candidate of the town i'm living in. Time went on, in other parts of my country, not so much where i made myself a home   Roll Eyes

FYI: I'm living "the dream" at a price. I'm pretty separated from the rest of the local population by interest, opinion and intellectual qualities. Still, i try to see people as equal, by the way. I was quite successful in the IT industry, even had a small number of employees, which where more like colleagues than working slaves for me, i worked my way up to there from zero, literally after quitting school at 17 and being thrown out of home by my mother because of it. By the age of 37 i got ill, by a four week lasting flu, followed by severe fatigue and brain fog. This was the end of my working life. We do have good social insurance here, but i had to fight for it, over the course of three trials at the court. The oldfashioned, retarded neurologists didn't know shit about Chronic Fatique Syndrome by then, and at the same time, the well known Burnout Syndrome was a fashionably, common diagnosis for IT workers, so they diagnosed me for that, but their therapy and medication just made it worse. Then i learned by myself how to cope with and threat CFS, and after some more years i am at a state of subjective 50% physical fitness, but still some part of my memory is not working right: the so called working memory. It's not easy to get around the day with that, but i tend to think positive, that's why you all had mostly read about the positive aspects of my private life, now you also know about my lifes "other side of the coin".
Writing and constantly editing a post of this length, so it makes some sense in the end, usually takes me around 20 minutes.

Living the dream?
Well, kind of, but not really.

Sorry to hear mate, my wife had/has CFS. Started when she got sick , like you, with the flu back when she was 16. Rocked her hard for a good 10 years. People always thought she was lazy because she didn't want to do anything but in reality... she couldn't. It took her 10 years to get any sort of normality and even now she still struggles at times but she's definitely a lot better than she used to be

Women run modern civilization.  It is a gynocentric empire of nothingness with men as their work mule donkey slaves.  The man essentially wastes his life to facilitate the woman's mindless desires about things like diamond rings and $100k weddings purchased with debt.  There is no way out of that paradigm until men boycott marriage entirely.  Since women are unable to compete against men as a group in anything, they will then fall into poverty and powerlessness and be forced to negotiate with men on their terms instead of the ball being in their court.  Shouldn't take very long for this to happen naturally since a man in current day would have to be completely insane to want to get married in the first place.

I’m not even 35, I’ve been with my girl for 11 years & we’re not even engaged & we have no children. Lots of people think it’s weird but we’re selfish & we like to do what we want to do, not what others want & expect Smiley

I'm 33 and have been with my (now wife) for 15 years... only been married for 4 of those years however. Don't let other peoples ideas of "what is right" dictate your relationship. People have constantly asked us when we are having kids and when we tell them we aren't we are looked at like we have some sort of mental condition. But it works for us, we enjoy our lives and don't see a reason to change.

Correction: most men and most women are pieces of shit. Other than that, very nice post.

Is it too obvious to state that we were in a bear market last year, the impact of opening would have been minimal & the interest would have been lower?

That's because the media has more and more control over the kids instead of their parents who work more and more. Parents should raise their kids and not reality shows like Jersey Shore, Kardashian's "reality show" and many others.

It's the parents who give that control because they're both lazy and it's easy.

Caring about the environment is for pussies. You're supposed to eat raw meat and fart diesel fumes if you want to be a right wing Alpha in this day and age. If you want to prove yourself go bleach a coral reef and burn down a rain forest.

trezor.. security via open source. had a trezor since 2016

i have several trezor model ones (one will do u2f), a trezor t and a ledger. the trezor seems easier and more intuitive than the ledger. and it seems i always have issues with the ledger, minor ones but annoying.

Yep had a Trezor for a long time also and wouldn't trust anything else myself. Have a Nano S and a Ledger Blue (which I regret) The Ledger stuff is decent but Trezor is definitely ahead in my books, both in UX and just all round support/solidness.

The guys behind Trezor are OG Bitcoiners and have proved their place in the ecosystem IMO

I am totally ready for this kind of price. The life opportunities & possibilities are endless if/when we see $50,000.

Ideally I don’t want to sell anything until $100,000+ but I won’t risk selling nothing during this bull run.

It was horrible seeing us slide from $19,xxx to $3,xxx

I won’t be so dumb this time when the price starts rocketing upwards.
I’m going to need to take a substantial amount of fiat out to live the life I plan for.

The big question is to sell how many coins & at what price.
I’m not very decisive but I’m going to have to be this time.

Plan now, make a decision you're happy with and settle for it. Don't second guess, when it hits that price point just do it; you'll feel so much better that way

No sir. The fine folk in this thread (and in PM's) talked me off a ledge, I worked out my pimp hand, and told Rick I'm not doing anything before $15k USD/BTC. If he really needs the money to top off our house accounts and calm his neurosis, I'll raid one one of my other after-tax accounts that are just sitting there, appreciating, with money I am blessed to not need right now, or in the near future.

May take some small (<$500k USD) profits at that point ($15k), but still holding out for 2022 before shaving off a chunk of corn to fund our ranch and buy me a MacLaren. Going to keep our Porsches. Don't feel like buying anything new from them until their EVs mature a bit more. The MacLaren should be a fun toy in the meantime.

Heartbreak and discomfort is good with these things... hopefully we learn from them as a species

The white stuff is bushfire smoke.  Its like this for most of the New South Wales coast.

SA isn't much better at the moment. People not far from where I live evacuated from homes and lost them in fires... sad stuff Sad

Yes I've very much enjoyed it. They got the visuals of the game very close and the world just feels right. Cavill is a great Geralt too!

I do  Cry

Barely member.  It’s been two years.  Cry

If we weren't at 14k only few months ago I would have the same feeling.

The pump from 3k to 14k was so refreshing and exciting it almost had the same effect as from 1k to 20k. Not completely the same thing it was, but close.

All these years, I watched many gambling/stocks market movies and I liked them but somehow I missed a major one, "The wolf of wallstreet"

Daym this movie is tha bomb. Makes me wanna go all in.  Grin So pumped right now. From now on, I am stepping up my game. I'll jerk off 5 times a day instead of 2.

And it is so weird, I started to live a bit like those guys (motivation-wise I mean, like a chart addict. no yachts, millions, coke etc yet) after I met bitcoin and I didn't know even this movie existed. Wew

Great film!

Maybe also disable the damn superfetch service (google) which makes a windoze pc become a memory swapping machine over time.
One of the greatest WinNT 5 misconceptions, already "tested" from WinME upwards.
I sped up most windoze boxes that were one to three years old considerably, just by disabling this stupid memory prefetch service bug (because it's NOT a feature, imo)

It's still prefetching unless you turn off:  HKEY_LOCALMACHINE > SYSTEM > CURRENT CONTROL SET > CONTROL > SESSION MANAGER > MEMORY MANAGEMENT > PREFETCH PARAMETERS > ENABLE PREFETCHER

OK I found ENABLE PREFETCHER, how do I turn it of? There is no of option, do I delete it?

Set the flag to 0 instead of 3

Speaking of lies....

BTC: Bullish mini-triangle against resistance forming. Curious if and when it breaks upwards.
However, in ultra-short timeframes, could almost only be a pump for dump. We'll see.

And I think we will hold in this territory for a bit now, at least I hope; too much too soon is never good. The BSV pump is already coming down too so I think that might settle the market a bit as well. All in all I'd say things are looking good currently

Please, be honest guys. I could do with a good laugh.

Don't be coy. You *know* I did.

Laugh all you want.

Just getting started.

Genuinely hope you sell before 3rd Feb. Take your profits (probably handsome profits) and run.

That may even be a bit late.

Hopefully it collapses to about $50.

I don’t see how it’s going to sustain its current price when as expected CW proves NOTHING (again).

When are those turds going to disappear into the rear view mirror? So annoying having them still on the scene, bull shitting their way around.

I long for the day both BSV and BCH bite the dust. Just serve to annoy and detract from BTC

Update on the Peter Schiff User Error by Erik Vorhees:

Quote
Here's what happened: after debate in 2018, we went to dinner. Peter had never used bitcoin before (!) I helped him set up wallet on his phone (Edge or BRD?), told him to secure it if he ever held significant value on it, gave him $50.  He forgot pw, and never recorded phrase.  Embarrassed

Blockchain.com wallets don't get "corrupted". If he would have saved his backup seed or private key (we have a lot of options here) in lieu of the password, he would still have access to his BTC. Lucky for him, Blockchain.com reached out to him and are intervening to solve his problem, so of course his bitcoin isn't lost, and it never was.

Schiff is a money manager, and apparently also a moron.

PEBCAK

I doubt that we are going to go shooting up to $20k, but I could see shooting up to $17,500.

Yet, what the fuck do I know?

I am continuing to think that once we get in the $17,500 to $23,000 range, we are not going to be hanging around in those territories for very long.. .yeah we could be there for  a couple of months.. but is kind of like bat country... in my ongoing thinkenings.

I have been thinking exactly the same.... Many people would like to unload their coins at this range and it will make them angry and fomo back in at higher prices, when they see BTC keep pumping.

It could be like a repeat to early 2017 when BTC reached 1k again.

The only thing, as JJG also stated some days ago, is: This time it's different.
Now the halving effect is well known and many want to jump the boat before anyone else does.

Bitcoin Mining Unit Manufacturer MicroBT Nibbles at Bitmain’s Market Share

Bitcoin miner maker MicroBT has rapidly expanded market share by selling over half a million units in 2019, chipping away at rival Bitmain's dominance.

MicroBT sold about 600,000 units of its flagship WhatsMiner M20 series last year, Vincent Zhang, sales head of the Shenzhen-based company, said in an online panel hosted by Chinese mining pool Poolin on Thursday in a WeChat group.

These products generate a computing power of about 60 terahashes per second (TH/s) on average, he said. That means the newly delivered 600,000 units may have contributed over 30 exahashes (EH/s) of hashing power to the bitcoin network in 2019. (1 EH = 1 million TH).

This is too much volatility for my mind. All I wanted was a car and a house and a job I love doing. I guess it was too much to ask from this life.

Dude, step back for a bit, you'll get some perspective. You're feeling like shit now for a perceived bad decision. It may prove to be just that or a genius move. Either way, it's done. I assume you're still quite young, plenty of years ahead. You've still got the money from your sold coins; you're a lot better off than 99% of the world. Chin up! Smiley

Have skin in the game at least?

Too late now. I'll have my skin by starting DCA'ing again. It will be a lot smaller skin though. Can't take 2btc loss.

That drop to 4000 blew my mind last night.

It is fine really. I don't feel so bad now. The only thing pains me the most I'll probably never get to the rich levels I was dreaming for all these years. I'll just be another low-mid earner.

My net worth is down to 125k now. It was 160k few months ago. I'll find other investments. I'll invest in bitcoin too but definitely not that much. Maybe I'll try real estate. Not sure.

Those aren't small figures by any means mate. You're ahead of most of the world. Good to see you've perked up a bit, wish you all the best

Don't you have a nice house? I guess you have. Invite your friend and order the best mexican food available. Share stories about how we are all going to die and fucking laugh at it sipping the best champagne. Problem solved.

Yeah, our pad is pretty much our "forever" home. I love it. I suggested the same thing. "Hey, just have broheim come to our place and we order in." and Rick is all like "What ? You don't want to go out now ?"

Relationships are so goddamn irritating sometimes.

Hah, I'm glad this bullshit isn't just with hetero couples Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Best of luck mate Tongue

And mindrust, you sound like you're being eaten up by grief, paranoia and regret. Take a step back... the world isn't ending; yes we're gonna eat shit for a while, both financially and impact on our lifestyle, but this will pass and things will go back to how they were before... better, but still a fucking mess Wink

Another honest thought...

As much as we all hate Tone Vays, I believe he was right about one thing.

Shitcoins.

They are a huge part of the problem and nobody can do nothing about it. (anybody can create a shitcoin and scam others before going to zero) Without all of them going to zero, I think bitcoin will have serious problems, price-wise against the USD.

Maybe they'll go away this time...

Take a look at CMC's homepage and tell me what you see. I only see shit. (other than #1) And people trade and hodl these shits with the hopes of them becoming the new bitcoin. And there are hundreds of thousands of them.

No offense man but reading this makes it sound like you're upset that you sold all your coin and now you're bitter and looking for ways to justify your position. I totally understand why you did what you did (even if I don't agree) but the shitcoins have always been there as a distraction to serve to try to take $$$/BTC away from people. Just don't fall for those traps and you'll be fine

There weren't always that many shitcoins. That's a fact. Their numbers are increasing with everynew day, that's a fact too. These aren't lies. Check CMC's historical snapshots and see it yourself.

I might be upset, I might be not. That's just how I feel and see it right now.

Of course there weren't... that's cos more and more people are realising they can get money from others easily by making a coin. The trick is to not buy those shitcoins all marketed on false promises and lies. There's a reason BTC has been around 10+ years and is still totally dominant in every metric

On my way back home, wife denied boarding to Canada despite marriage certificate and all visa documents. Booked another flight for her to her country in short order. Boarding at the same time at neighboring gates. Just as she steps through the gate to board her plane, I receive information that they've made a mistake and she's now allowed under the family exception.
That's what I was trying to fucking tell you at the desk you imbecile!
No amount of protest can bring her back to the gate from the plane. I watch our planes depart in different directions. Some pure bullshit today. WTF

Yeah I think things will definitely get worse before they get better... I'm lucky in our country that I'm still able to work. My wife has lost her job until everything re-opens but I'm still able to keep the money coming in. A lot better off than many. Keep safe guys, it's tough out there. Hopefully this time next year all this shit will be behind us and we will be having a 100k party somewhere nice and warm

I think the point is we didn't know this was a thing before January. Now that we know, we can better prepare for it. Right now its spreading like wildfire, and we need to contain the spread as it is already overwhelming healthcare infrastructures worldwide.

Want to be clear here: We knew this was coming. We had dress rehearsals with SARS, MERS, and H5N1. We knew what needed to be done. We just decided not to listen, and not to prepare.

This is the logical outcome.

Sorry, but I believe strongly that Reality exists and facing one's errors is critical to ensuring they don't happen again. The problem isn't that "we didn't know" the problem is people willingly choose to ignore facts.

Bingo! All these denialists are doing is adding to the problem. If more people had listened and understood how serious this was in the beginning we wouldn't be in this fucking mess
