The question as far as I'm concerned is whether this is real or some type of dead cat bounce.  I mean to get over $1000, close to $1100 would mean something to me.  If it stalls out soon though I'd be worried it's headed for another drop.  We'll see I guess.  Anyone familiar with characteristics of dead cat bounce?

It has the characteristic of an dead cat bounce.

But nobody knows.

Uncertainty.

Here's what I'm pulling out of my ass: if the day ends with the 1D candle in green territory and if tomorrow we also get another green candle, then choo choo is more likely than trainwreck.

Nevertheless: every day that passes with btcusd over 800 makes this new price range generally accepted and hence a return to the 500's less likely. In which case I'd kinda feel sorry for rpietila because he has made some great contributions to the forum. While being happy for myself of course Cheesy

I don't think so. I see it more psychological. Bitcoin had masterd this high raising with euphoria, nearly mania, taking down any wall.

From day to day the value descends only a bit it will will feel more depressive, more bearish. The denial is lower every day. It's not impossible to break out, but very, very hard.
The acceptance of 800+ is not good. Next week you will write:
Quote
" every day that passes with btcusd over 750 makes this new price range generally accepted..."

Perhaps you are not recognizing, but this is the beginning of bearish thinking.
The price will fall if there will not be a new euphoria. This euphoria can come from GREAT NEWS for example.
Or we have to blow off and take another attempt. There's no need to be scared of an Blow-Off. It would not be the end, just a new beginning.
From 500,00$ to 5000,00$ ore more.

BTW. I'm no bear neither bull.

1. This article is posted on sina. Sina is the top 5 online medai brand in China, equivalent to Yahoo here.
2. The rumor posted on Chinese version of twitter(weibo) is true.
3. People's Bank of China banned all the third party payment company doing business related to bitcoin, including bitcoin exchange platforms.
For those who is currently doing, they are required to completely cut off bitcoin related business by the Chinese new year, which is at the end of Jan 2014.
For the business held by entity outside of China, they haven't decide what to do, but very likely to be negative.
3. Btcchina is operated in the Shanghai's new pilot free trading zone. It is at a awkward spot. They has terminate the partnership with Tenpay(probably second largest third party payment company under Alipay). They are now using Yeepay, which is probably a random small company I have never heard of.
4. You can now only withdraw your fiat fund from btcchina through online banking. You can still deposit via Yeepay and online banking, for now.
5. After Dec 5, small merchants or online shop owner could still accept bitcoin as payment and comfortably convert them to rmb through exchange like btcchina. In the future , this is going to be much harder and completely illegal after the Chinese new year. Basically, bitcoin is dead in China for the most part. People can only use it as speculative investment and store of value, but it is going to very hard for them to realize their potential profit legally in the future.
6. In the future, if bitcoin still managed to success internationally without China market, people in China would still be able to own it and sell it in a similar way how people deposit and withdraw money from Pokerstars. But it probably wouldn't be a hot topic as it was months ago.
7. People ask if btcchina will be shut down. I don't know. Btcchina is the only exchange located in the Shanghai's free pilot trading zone, it could possibly survive. But the best case scenario is that btcchina is going to the only one left.
Since people couldn't read, I just made make some words bold.

This is not like the dumps of old... Stacks of coins eaten up by the big players. Gonna make it harder to choose a re-entry point.

I think it's better than not. If Gox and Stamp would follow China it could be possible to encouter the two digits area. China is nearly dead.

How i saw Stamp and BTCChina are following Gox.

Stamp tried to break out upward, then Gox broke out downward and Stamp followed.

No if there will be a flash crash, it will be much bigger than what we've seen.  Bitcoin will be consolidating.

If it makes a small flash-crash to 500 or below, likely next week we'll have the same game on the level of 600,00$ and the "2 da m00n" and "n3w ATH n3xt w33k" posts will be there again.

all i can say is that when price rises it opens new possibilities, but only if you buy back before the rise

You think people that seeing a bear-market aren't participating on rallies? Bear-Market for me only means more attention on pricemovements.

Wake up to find no movement and 3 pages of butthurt people bashing on rpietila yet again.

That was me two years ago. People who makes waves, right or wrong get that sort of reaction. I like reading rpietila's posts as they are well thought out and are logical, even if I do not agree with them 100% of the time.

Would be a crazy "free market" if we all thought the same thing all the time.

+1

Rpielita Posts are well thought and businesslike. In the german forums most people arguing in this manner and no matter of seeing bear or bull market, the people respect each other.

Not so much kindergarten like here.

But also here you can find good (and amusing) postings between the garbage.

Rpietila seems a reputable in his views.
I think we all should read his writings, learn him, try to figure out his mood and based on this, sell or buy coins.
The price will go quite low if we can trust him - usually we can. He made his bearish call correctly last time while all were laughing at his face, spitting on him and considering him as slain of God, the man of sorrows, the friend of pains etc.

After all, he made his trades and tons of money. Now those of you who do not follow his paths right now will loose as the price eventually crashes.
He is making money so why shouldn't I do it with him? I hope you guys here are also in the same boat with me. It is not that difficult to turn from bull to bear. I did it after I found Rpietila did it also.  Cool

I like reading rpietila and I think he's a good analyzer. But better don't make him a bitcoin-guru.

Once everyone gets over the whole "new year omg" thing there should be another significant dip

allright, let's have a more meaningful exchange of thoughts...

why do you think there might be a dip and into which timeframe do you suppose it could fall in?

Every exchange is sitting at daily volumes of less than 10K and we are very overbought with the low volume. The fundamentals are strong and I'm a long term bull but this rally has no legs, simple as that. Im expecting us to go sideways for perhaps another 2 weeks and then have a fall but nobody knows!

Check out the chart below. Stochastics are telling us we are in very overbought territory and price volume oscillator is showing a huge divergence in price and volume. Looking historically at that indicator (and especially the combination of the two) one can only guess as to what happens next. Yes it is a risk to be holding cash right now, but I see it as a bigger risk to buy into this weak rally

All this i have seen, too. And I was holding 100% Fiat. The StochRSI and other Indicators were/are horrible and a big dump was very likely. But now, I think we have a total new Situation.

Likely all dumps will be caught up and volume will rise soon.

Gox Laggy no ?

Do you think it's a short up currently, will going down again I assume.
The current dump will probably wobble and stabilize around 800-805. Then there will be more recoveries, breakouts, and dumps. If it's like May then this fight can go on for weeks.

In corner 1, you have a 1 day crossover and positive news like Fortress

In corner 2, you have backlogged capitulation, China going down, and people dumping now that tax hodling is over

Yeah. I think a turbulently time is beginning...

If you search for a guilty, who causes drops without bad news on distinctive marks, you don't have to search painstakingly.

Nine times out of ten it's BTC-E ;-)

Look at the trading at bitcoinwisdom and you'll see that they are again provocating the other exchanges.

There are stupid people who paid the value of 1 BTC for 0.1 BTC on eBay. That's nothing special. Only foolish.

Yes, because BTCChina has had a leading function, too. If Huobi is a reliable leading indicator for other exchanges, then it is probably real, but I haven't watched Huobi much in the past so I can't say.

Gox/Stamp/BTC-E are following Huobi almost always. Sometimes another Exchange is triggering, but Huobi seems to be the boss all over.

Almost always there was spread between Gox and Stamp, but this big spread without flash upward movement is realy odd. And there is a contradictorily trading of large Fiat/BTC amounts between these two exchanges.

In the moment there is opened a buy order on Stamp it gets filled nearly instantly.

There are popping up sell offers for hundreds of coins, even below the price of BTC-E and Huobi, what is really abnormal. And it seems like there is no motivation to close the gap to BTC-E and Huobi.

Stamp is crawling around the floor. Willy stopped buying, so Gox-Boost is tuned off.

The only reason that is impeding a hard dump is Huobi. They don't move, and they don't care a lot about Stamp and Gox.

There is no visible trend anywhere, price is floating between Support and Resistance.

There is no news other than some hints that the economy in china is slowing, most of which is likely fake data that china regularly produces for their own spin.

I don't give fuck about this childish bull and baer game (like cowboys and indians?). I'm only interested in protecting my wealth. Maybe this has another reason than i suppose or is only an exaggerated reaction by the chinese.

But if not...

...so I have decided to risk a lost of BTC-Percentage if I'm wrong. What you should do is your decision.

And I'm not talking about the chinese economy, I concerned the black money.

You think your coins are worth less now than they were a week ago, before you could buy stuff with them at Tiger direct, fancy.com and a bunch of porn sites and casinos?
This dip is nothing. If I had panicked when it plunged from $31/BTC to $3/BTC or from $260/BTC to $70/BTC, I wouldn't have any now. Just Chill. This happens with Bitcoin and you should know that. In fact, buy more. You may never get another chance like this.

Sure. I will rebuy. But not now.

We just had a crash and consolidation. Maybe we need  another one. I don't know, but I don't want to see anybody get hurt, and nobody get's hurt if we only go up from here except the people waiting now for a lower price point with too much cash on the sidelines. I don't have a crystal ball and maybe waiting now is is good strategy, but it's good for Bitcoin if there's less volatility.
The market doesn't care if people get hurt. And the market surely doesn't give a fuck what is good for bitcoin.

Yep. But sadly this is valid for both directions  Wink

Case 1 dip to 200:   you get 10 BTC

Case 2 no dip, buy at 4000, you get 0.5 BTC

Will there be a dip to 200 ?
Will price go to 4000 without any dip large enough to tempt you?

Or

Case 3 buy now you get 2 BTC sure thing.

You are drawing extremities. Why should he buy at 4000$ or at 200,00$. There are more moderate prices...

...or is it so, making a cup of coffee, coming back, and the price will have reached 4000$ or 200$?

It's a big psychologically Problem. You pay 800,00$ (or 1,000,00$, or 10,000$) for one Bitcoin. Exchanges etc. have to switch better to mBTC. If not, new interested people will be skeptical and development will be decelerated.

Normally both should be a continuation pattern (in an uptrend), so it doesn't matter if you see it as a wegde or triangle. But in the Bitcoin-World I'm personally giving only a tiny valuation on chart-patterns.

Likely there is a connection. It would be to much of happenstance, that the unimportant village of Volgograd (in comparison to Moscow or St. Petersburg) is announcing this a few days after the attacks.

Well its somewhat a different FUD. People not selling @btc-e, because whats the point? If they will get shut down you dont get your fiat out of there fast enough, its kinda dangerous.

So ppl just moving coins to wallets and other exchanges

But then BTC-E price would get goxxed!  Shocked

Silk Road also went down over night with over 200k Bitcoins on it.

And be settled in Europe may not help BTC-E. If Russia is really pissed off, 'cause cryptocurrencies were involved with the terror attacks (traded on BTC-E), than BTC-E could get the attention of Europe, too.

BTC-E is a Blackbox, and I think with their anonymity they are breaking serveral european laws, too. And until now nothing had happened, 'cause nobody payed attention to BTC-E. So they could be forced to correct themself quickly and fulfil all required obligations or will be shut down soon.

Also it could be that nothing will happen, but I would not say so fast that this is all totally insignificant.

It is like nearly every day in the Bitcoin-World:

Unclear.

What pressure?!

490 BTC is no pressure. People are seeing lower prices coming or even only want to convert to fiat without any other motivation than sellout. That's no pressure.

Yeah! That's true. I'm always asking the employees of chinese restaurants what they think about the bitcoin price and they're looking really bearish. And if ask for paying with bitcoin they say, that I can pay with money, cleaning the dishes or birching, but not with "What-the-fuck?-coins".

Last year it was common to see a whale dump a huge amount of coin which would then cause massive panic and everyone would start selling and the price would tumble further.  Then the whales would buy back the amount they dumped, plus more for less then the price they dumped at, fees included.  It does not seem to work as well as it did then, thankfully.

That's true.

This could still work. But it's a lot harder, more unpredictable and more expensive now.

Not really, I'm perfectly fine of it staying around 800$. I never expected it to go to 2k so soon after last ATH. But poor bears are expecting 400-500 coins for weeks and there were 10 situations when they got giddy just to price go back to 800 in hour or two. It must have been a painful experience for them.

Many bitcoiners may be holders but I think you fully misunderstand the point.

Well, it is hard to lose trading if you don't trade.

That's what is happening right now. That should give pause to any bear. At least for the next day or so. Not saying we can't or won't go lower. But that is a long consecutive red candle streak. Now, I know bears will decry this, but I said the same thing a few weeks ago after 8 straight green daily candles.

I don't know if I understand the question. Is it about the current price (large green number)  being above the lowest ask?

This may look wrong, but the current price is the price of the last transaction that was executed.  Since that time, a new sell offer was added to the order book, below that current price.

76 Coins trading between 4000 - 4100?!

It was not wrong. Orders were executed equal to bid and ask.

It was not wrong. Orders were executed equal to bid and ask.

Seems they have still problems on Huobi.

I still don't understand what problem you see.

You are aware that the first two columns (detailed order book) are independent of the other two (summary of the order book), right?  It is not one table with four columns per row, but two tables with two columns, and the rows of one are not related to the rows of the other.

On the first two columns, going up from the spread to the 4100 CNY line there are several sell offers that seem  to add up to 67.  Below, on the bid side, the entries less than 4050 add to less than 1 (hence the "0" on the summary) and the next ones down to 4000 seem to add to 9.  Those coins have not been traded yet; they are waiting for matching offers.   The transaction log (trades already executed) is a separate table, below the part you have copied.

So what is wrong?

Bid/Ask depth on Huobi is normaly above 1000 Coins for 100 Renmibi, not 76 Coins.

Biggest dump I ever made was 10 BTC at $400 on the way up in November. I paid off some bills. Didn't dump a damn thing on the way down other than a little range trading. In fact, I'm buying. I'll keep buying on the way down until I run out of money, and then run out of credit.

With Billy I refered to this evil bot on Gox dumping ~50 BTC every 10 Minutes...

When people stop searching for good news in order for bitcoin prices to go up and instead search for disasters to achieve the same goal , that's a bad sign.

Wishing for another Cyprus?

I'm not so bearish as it seems. But I can't image that people which are scared of beeing dispossessed by the state, will put money in Bitcoins with the risk of even lose more.

That's not bearish, that's realistic. At the moment Bitcoin is scaring more than states and the threat of dispossession.

I hope this will change soon...

Imagine buying 330$ btcs and selling half of them for 650 a minute later.

Imagine buying $350 btcs instead of $650 and sell 1 year later at $5k

thats nearly a double huge profit

but i guess people arent that smart, we might see a little dip

It's a minor event but it completely controls the price at the
Moment. Traders are idiots.
Probably on the day of the auction the idiots will start selling because people might start selling. The news has to be really damn good for the price to go up.
Anything not extremely bullish and the traders will totally completely fucking panic and sell.
When we recover a week later they'll find the next event to panic about.

More and more I get the impression, that you are a bot. A posting-bot! An algorithm loaded with a few constants like sheep, panic, ignore, traders, idiots...

alot of new folks get attracted to bitcoin everyday, but other than last year, they have no idea where to buy bitcoin in a safe way. the gox desaster has shocked basic confidence and that still is a factor imo.
i talked to some guys that are interested in bitcoin but the bullshit that went on at gox is keeping them from sending $s to some east european exchange.

thats a big problem imo.

So what?
You should ask them how much, sell them with interest from your stack and re-order for yourself, of course. A safe way has it's price.

So you'll be this new confident Exchange ;-)

You have very clearly no idea of what my ideas are about the long term prospect of Bitcoin. But in a way I'm happy you posted - you're an excellent example of what I described in my post right above: you're one of those in here for whom any perceived opposition to the only possible outcome of the million dollar coin must be met with the utmost contempt ("permabear", "troll", "shortsighted").

Could you please link me your long term ideas? Anytime I'm interested in non-trolling alternative views...

Yes Oda, please enlighten all of us of where you think the Bitcoin world will be at the 5 and 10 year mark from today.  Or is that too hard for you??  Because I haven't heard you enlighten us with your infinite wisdom on that topic yet?  All I hear you do is whine about the bulls.

I'll tell ya what, I'll make it even easier for you.  Tell us where you think that Bitcoin will be in 2016?

Or do you and Blitz just think we're all cultists?

(And btw Blitz, if you think we're all just a bunch cultists, then WTF are you doing here as a Moderator on a Bitcoin forum?  Hypocrit much?)

But he has written:

Quote
I avoid technical predictions that go further into the future than a month or two, and definitely can't provide a price target for 2015 based on them...

His linked posting makes a very rudimentary impression to me. But I enjoy reading all kinds of analysis. Uber-Bullish, bullish, neutral, bearish, uber-bearish.

It extends your horizon and ensures not to turn cultist.

And with this:

Quote
To be clear: I don't rule out substantially higher valuations. I just despise the fake certainty with which those predictions are presented by the usual suspects, and the aggressiveness with which less optimistic predictions are met. The crypto capitalization event itself dosn't need to be a Ponzie, but a subset of users in here sure are trying their best to make it look like one.

I totally agree.

now that everyone is waiting for a bubble and yelling that this is going to be soon or maybe it will start now....it is the perfect reason for a bubble to not start for a long long time, hell maybe Bitcoin is still overvalued from the last bubble and this is why we see selling pressure each time the price go up for $10.

Indeed. I'm giving the first real mid-term bear market a good chance.

there will be no bubble this summer. in september (or whenever etf gets approved) a steady bull run will start. it may lead into another bubble in q4. july and august will stay boring...

Check that 'emotional phases of a bubble' chart again and consider it from a manipulators point of view. Is it more economic to reduce prices through brute-force or by influencing emotions?

He's german. We have no emotions. So we can not reproduce this.

I think these log trendlines are guaranteed to be broken at some point in the near future (1 week to 1 year).  A new trendline will be established. This happens all the time on a micro scale.

Indeed. This trendline seems to be exhausted.

I think a lot of your arguments for a lesser bullish outlook, denying this uber-trolling-bullish scenarios, are reasonable. But than...

The July 24th date is 234 days after the previous bubble, which was 234 days after the previous bubble, etc.  There is a guy on Reddit who spent months telling everyone we were going to the moon on exactly that date, not one day earlier, not one day later.

When he started getting laughed at, he made his own subreddit, and moved there.  The last that I read, he turned from superbull to superbear because his prediction was wrong which he thinks proves that the bitcoin bubble trend is dead.

I am expecting the price to jump a few percent on the 23rd or early 24th because he publicized it so much, for so long.

If he said July 24th, how come the prediction was wrong?
Because Christine Lagarde said it would be the 20th or 27th

For anyone who doesn't follow alts, although two days ago was better, XMR is a solid buy at the moment. Some serious money going into it.

Monero looks like great new P&D coin and you are doing here just that Smiley

Except a few crumbs of Litecoins I never invested in altcoins. But XMR is seems to be something other than just another shitcoin. I bought some, too.

...maybe I'll dump my crumbs of Litecoins to buy a few more...

I think price might go up at any moment.

I think a CCMF-Indicator (a frequenzy of Rocket-, Lambo-, "Price-will-go-up-at-any-moment"-postings) would be great. As more bearish this indicator would turn as more bullish the BTC outlook.

For now the CCMF Indicator is neutral to slightly bullish. Still to strong.

neutral to slightly bullish.. sounds like me last night Smiley
I see what's happening indeed ...

During next week bears will cry I am pretty sure bout that.

Oh yes. Crying and dead bear postings would also effect the CCMF (NERD) - Contrarian - Indicator.

And what does this tell you?
That there is low volume and yep we don't have enought buyers.

Wrong. It tells us very few people are willing to sell at these prices.

Bullish and bearish view on a sidewards movement. Magnificent.

Dell accepting Bitcoin is bad sign for the short term price

it seems to be a non-event at the moment. the market doesnt care much about that news.

A $10 rise is better than nothing

I'm very sceptical in short term , but to be honest, it looks like ~630/635 is a resistance. Market seems like frozen between a short area of support and resistance, so any hit could effect a chain reaction. Maybe this dell news could give a small hit to the upside and releasing it from the mud where bitcoin is stucking.

Crazy dumper is surely a offshore buyer. Buying high offshore, selling low on exchanges. A financial troll. After each dump he's reading the Wall Observer:

Now with Dell on board you have to be really dumb to just keep selling. It's clear there is only 1 way to go and that's up.
Then again i love seeing those idiots lose their money. Nothing better than seeing a 200 dump and the price going up 5 minutes later.

Reading this since this ultra bullish ~800,00$ consolidation in January.

-"Moon is coming", "the direction is clear", "there is only one direction", you'll get incredible burnt if you sell now"-

And where it has gone? There was no moon.

If I would not know, that all this shouting dudes aren't representative for bitcoin I would think this is some fraud-system, where sheeps are bleating on the field for rising prices coming soon, meanwhile fraudsters collecting profit and running away.

It is, as oda.krell said: bitcoin capitalization must not be some kind of Ponzi scheme, but a lot of people are trying hard to let it seem like this.

Uptrend will come, soon or whenever. (or not)

Seeing a rising wedge here, with one leg up to make. That's usually pretty bearish, isn't it? But both bulls and bears are looking pretty weak. Huh

I can't recognize any wedge. Pattern forming since end of may is a symmetrical triangle. That bulls and bears are looking weak should be a consequence of the diminishing volume before breakout, to whichever direction.

Me either. It looks like a rising wedge to me. Which has bearish bias BUT I've seen them break up in bitcoin, for sure.

Ah, now! Thanks for the elucidation. I think this "wedge" has not so much significance as it forms part of a longer and more significant pattern.
