Buy opportunity or sell opportunity? Huh

Thoughts?

Of course, today is a buy opportunity because, if you noticed, the price is going down.

The best practice is to buy BTC on the way down and to sell on the way up.

If you were going to sell some bitcoins, then you should have already done that.

So under the current price direction, the opportunity is here and that is to buy little bitcoins, and the only questions are how much to buy and at what price increments.

Yup, I'm leaning towards buy opportunity too.

Just gonna wait a while to make sure it doesn't continue downwards.

I think some huge gains are in sight the coming months.

How huge tho?

90% of my net worth is in bitcoin now hehe... I'm either retarded or a genius

Bitcoin ETF approval within 5 months.

Quote
A new exchange traded fund designed to track the price of Bitcoin may be on its way to market. New paperwork has been filed with the SEC for the new ETF, titled Solid Bitcoin Trust, according to reports from ETF.com.

SolidX Partners Inc. says the Bitcoin within the ETF will be insured in case of theft, destruction or computer fraud, with the Bank of New York Mellon acting as custodian.

The new fund requires a rule change filing with SEC by the carrying exchange, due to Bitcoin’s status as a new asset type. The fund will kick off with an initial offering value at around $1 million.

Approval is pending based on the approval of the rule change filing; a precedent has since been set by the Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF, which the infamous brothers filed for on June 30. It’s anticipated that fund will receive approval by the end of 2016, with the SolidX ETF receiving approval by early 2017.

http://www.wealthprofessional.ca/news/etfs/new-bitcoin-etf-on-its-way-to-market-211198.aspx

Wasn't the Winklevoss ETF supposed to be approved by 2014? Then again by 2015? Now by the end of 2016? I keep hearing the same thing every year... what's different this time?

Also, didn't the Winklevoss release their ETF called Gemini? Or is that just an exchange? I'm so confused because I've been hearing about the same ETF for the last 2 years and nothing changes

Did someone promise you something too?

Try a little harder with your nonsense.

By now, even the biggest of idiots have figured out that Gemini is an exchange and an exchange is different from an ETF.

We could have given you a pass for these kinds of questions a year ago (when Gemini first came out), but a year later, come on?

What nonsense you stupid motherfucker the Winklevoss ETF has been in the news as "soon to be approved" since 2014, I'm just asking how this news is any different.... it's the same shit over and over again. If I remember it was supposed to be approved by the end of 2014

Why are you so pissed, you on your period? Don't ever talk to me like that again bitch boy

Winkelvoss ETF was never approved during 2014, 2015 otherwise it woud alrdy be here..you're overeacting a little bit.

You need to pay for lawyers, regulaters, filling paperwork to SEC etc, that cost a ton of money and time. Bitcoin is a brand new asset class with a lot of potential, it is not easy to make a framework.
All party's needs to be happy, if the first farmework does not fit the requirements than a new one will be planned and that will take a new chunk of money and time. There are more ETF's going on than the Winkelvoss but the 2 brother are going for BATS exchange. Imo that fits Bitcoin better than NASDAQ.

Have patience friend, Bitcoin ETF's will come.

I didn't say it was approved.... we have been hearing about it waiting to be approved since 2014. So what exactly is new about this:

The Winklevoss Bitcoin ETF is still awaiting regulatory approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission

Still waiting..... and 2 years later we have another article that claims it's "still waiting" ...sorry if I'm not excited until we see a confirmation. Anticipation isn't confirmation

The SolidX ETF isn't the Winklevii's COIN ETF. The latter is awaiting comment on a rule change for listing on BATS. NASDAQ never filed for that rule change. There is now a timetable for acceptance, starting with a 45-day period for comment with several possible extensions. I guess it still could all fall apart and be rejected, but it's undeniably further ahead than previously.

Thank you. Now I'm a little more excited.

there is a workable Alpha version of LN
its called Thunder i think
https://www.blockchain.com/thunder/
yup.

This seems like a big deal but I haven't heard about this before. I thought LN was something like pipe-dream that isn't possible yet, at least from what I heard. This thunder network is basically a working prototype showing it's possible.

Quote
Scale: According to our tests so far, we can achieve better-than-Visa scale (100,000 TPS) with only a few thousand nodes on the network

Extremely cheap payments: fees will develop naturally, due to the free market in an open and permissionless network and will fundamentally be lower than on-chain payments

Even if limited to transactions in a trusted network right now this is still pretty incredible. If I'm understanding this right, is this going to be applicable and help scaling once CSV and SegWit are implemented?

Quote from: adamstgBit on July 29, 2016, 03:21:18 PM
i think the goal is and always will be to get bitcoin to be able to process all of the worlds TX.
right now poeple have gotten use to the idea that bitcoin will never be able to do that.
when LN comes and changes the game, we will be able to say that "yes bitcoin CAN potentially take over the world."

i agree only LN can achieve this, but i disagree that blocksize can stay at 1MB or that 2MB would have any meaningful centralizing effect. it should have been bumped up already and its sad you small blockers cant see that.

For the love of bitcoin, and all it stands for, we MUST ALL AGREE the fallowing statement is completely INSANE

" Hard forks are evil, and only core dev knows what best for bitcoin. "

It's unfortunate that there's a divide happening in this community between "small blockers" and the other folks. But I don't understand why, didn't Core agree to a segwit softfork + the 2Mb hardfork for a total of 4Mb increase in their roadmap? Is that not happening or are you saying it's taking too long?

Quote
SegWit is expected to be released in April 2016.
The code for the hard-fork will therefore be available by July 2016.
If there is strong community support, the hard-fork activation will likely happen around July 2017.

https://medium.com/@bitcoinroundtable/bitcoin-roundtable-consensus-266d475a61ff#.i1yfnaja4

I'm not sure if I'm a "small blocker" if I'm okay with this roadmap... but to me it seems like the scaling issue is going to be temporary. Once block size is increased, SegWit + LN is out and then the ETF gets approved then what, moon? At least these are the rumors, once they're news it'll be too late

I got my bitcoinz ready.... sick and tired of being in the upper-middle class

Unless someone knows something I don't, this seems like the post-halving dip that never happened, until now. We all got comfortable with bitcoin being stable at $660. Nearly everyone, especially Adam, were way too bullish.. it's about time bitcoin kicks them in the balls and gives everyone a reality check--- that bitcoin is truly unpredictable. It will make you think that you "figured it out" and then do something completely opposite of what you expect.

It may end up being a longer setback than I want it to be, but as far as I'm concerned those 120K coins are off this market. Every law enforcement agency and bitcoin exchange is gonna be tracking those funds. It will be hard and stupid to cash out the bitfinex btc anytime soon.

skip to the bottom for the meat.

Damn you got hella bearish all the sudden.

I don't think we will go down to below $500. The price overracted because of BFX and this doesn't feel nearly as bad as gox. Everyone's been expecting worst case scenarios but rumors are that BFX will be resuming business soon. Depending on how well they handle customer losses things could turn around really fast. And if this block-size/HF drama finds some middle ground, like Core confirms that 2mb HF + segwit is still in motion with an updated timeline AND Winklevii + COIN ETF gets the green light we could be looking at greatness this year

Do you have more info on BTCFork, and their reddit page? First I'm hearing of this.

Stop being a coward.  Nobody says it's "racist" to talk about the Italian mafia.  It just so happens there's a Jewish mafia running the media, political system, and financial system that is more crooked and powerful than the Italian mafia ever dreamed of.  If they fail to police their own kind and don't place all these sith lords like Soros in a dungeon, the world will eventually collecively punish them again.

It's a Machiavellian issue.  They operate as a hive mind collective, so just tossing one in jail probably does nothing.  You can't beat collectivists without a collectivist solution.  That is why collective punishment was used against them the first time and is likely the only way to fix the problem at all.  If you're happy being a Jew servant and being financially and cognitively raped for your entire existence, then good for you, but not everyone is a beta male servant boy.

Yes... maybe ongoing discussion of hardforking efforts has better reception in other forums?

I think that some of the hardforking discussion is a bit looney, but it is a current dynamic that is likely to continue to have various rippling effects on the "bitcoin community"  (I put "bitcoin community" in quotes, because it is a bit of a dilemma how "bitcoin community" should be defined).

Which is a shame... not only are alt coins a division of the community but now even btc itself is divided with small vs large blockers. HF's are just going to fuck everyone, one of the chains will eventually fail and you will have to guess which one is worth keeping your money on... why deal with the uncertainty, don't fork BTC you fucks

Why so violent Dafar? Are you still butthurt about a bad trade or something?

I'm a permabull hodler that, after 3 straight years of witnessing bitcoin NOT becoming the uber global phenom that everyone was going on about in 2013, I believe have earned the right to be a little bearish now and then.  I still have not witnessed ANY new major Average Joe money, nor major investment money, nor major retailer adoption happen in that time either.  The only thing I've seen in that time frame is complete apathy from the general public, and the occasional PnD bullshit that we're all so familiar with by now.

So fkn sue me bitch.  Also, let's see how the year finishes up before you start calling it a full on uptrend, eh? Bitcoin has steadily been losing some marketshare ground to shitcoins for 3 years now.

Edit:
Well, well, well, looks like ol' Dafar is just as bearish too.

Ok guys, we've been seeing insane predictions since the end of 2013.

I'm not butthurt... you called me out when you thought you were right, and I'm calling you out for being the bigger a fool  Cheesy

And I am not bearish, I expect much higher prices... I just don't know how long it will take. Months, years, decades?? Probably sooner than that, I'm excited about 2017... I think as long as bitcoin keeps growing, as it is, without another gox/bfx, as adoption and use cases grow, as second-layer scaling technologies evolve, a sudden news of a ETF could be enough to push the price beyond ATH.

JJG, since you seem to like to confront people a lot, and since you are always in need of hard facts, stats, and proof over public sentiment (which is fairly palpable atm), then here you go.  Third chart at the bottom, the 3-year downtrend in bitcoin's overall crypto marketshare is as plain as day:

https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/#btc-percentage

Doesn't change the fact that I'm a permabull.  But my patience is starting to wear thin.  Other so-called bit bulls have already moved on and left bitcoin behind.

I had to comment on this.... what the hell does this chart prove? Of course bitcoin is gonna lose "crypto marketshare" as other alts emerge. If you compare any altcoin with the rest of the crypto market share they will all be going down unless the coin just started. This says nothing about bitcoin's growth. BTC transaction volume has grown significantly-- a compounded yearly rate of 224% since 2013 and tripped over last year. The are many metrics that show positive growth in areas that matter and you chose to focus on something useless. Not to mention a lot of the bitcoin that went to the altcoin market are only there so traders can earn more bitcoin. I myself have tons of BTC in alts that is coming right back into bitcoin

Hopefully not disapprove... that will definitely cause a drop in price.

The below linked article talks about November 15, 2016 as a tentative release date.

http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/10/18/bitcoin-core-segwit-ready/

0.13.1 will be release soon (1 to 2 weeks), that date is just one of the requirements that must be met before segwit activates.

RC1 will come out in a day or so oonce they go through the gitian process.

LN is coming around nicely where all the implementations have standardized Interoperability and Specifications for compatibility -

If Antpool joins ViaBTC and starts mining BU then you can say goodbye to this potential rally

While Gemini charges lower fees than many of its competitors and offers big discounts to clients moving large volumes, it's not free. (As an aside, the supposed free flow of money is one of the great myths of the Bitcoin world, since most exchanges charge around 5 percent of the value to either buy or sell Bitcoin.)

That's the exchange's decision to charge a 5% fee, not a fault of bitcoin. Bitcoin is money, any fluctuations when converting one currency to another currency, like USD -> BTC, will have some variance and it's not the fault of bitcoin either. If everyone earned bitcoin, and all vendors accepted bitcoin the world would be a better place -- fact. (Assuming bitcoin has scaled to the point where it can handle all the transactions)

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

we are of the opinion that the current Bitcoin development team is not taking satisfactory steps to ensure the growth and advancement of Bitcoin in accordance with satoshi's original white paper.

Instead, Bitcoin is being transformed into a settlement layer, with high fees, and using a labyrinth of complex overlays on top of the basic system.

After years of stagnation, it has become evident that no change will occur. The current Bitcoin development team has prevented the ability to freely discuss the development of Bitcoin by tacitly supporting censorship, and outright banning of developers and community members who differ in opinion.

Since efforts by the community to resolve these problems have failed, it is necessary to resolve them with a different approach.

anyway back on topic:

Based on the weekly stoch RSI: This is either about to shoot way past ATH or about to crash hard, one or the other, but I can't tell which. I guess this analysis doesn't help me much.

I suspected that if we passed 750 it would be the start of the ramping up and FOMO, but it is looking lacklustre.

Maybe it is unmentionable OT uncertainties (ahem...) maybe it's just not going to happen but the cup and handle looked perfect and the rise has been steady for a year.  I really thought it would be around now we'd see the new 2013-style run, but it's awfully quiet out there.

I was thinking (as were many) that a run up was inevitable.  Now I haven't a clue... The conditions are good, so why is nothing happening?  A crash would no longer surprise me either, this is Bitcoin, after all.

Why 750? 780 was the yearly high and critical resistance point right now, that's when the fomo will happen

Maybe, but let's not forget that in 2012 volatility seemed to be done also. Then we had 2013.

I don't think we'll have quite the volatility as we had during the 3 great bubbles (or even last spring's micro-bubble) when it rocketed up in a few short weeks and plummeted just as quickly.

Hopefully the next bubble will take several months (or even years) instead of just weeks. The fractals of the bubbles are remarkably similar, but they are getting taller, longer, and with longer intervals between them.

Eventually one of them will be where the s-curve goes "vertical". Then the exponential growth phase will be done and the price will exponentially level off.

I totally agree. $1000 is a small stepping stone in this moon bound mission. Nobody should sell their entire bitcoin worth at $1000.

There will be tons of fools who will help the bears when we reach ATH.... it's an absolute stupid point to sell but the sells will be there regardless and bears will try hard to crush the rally as usual

If giant double top then we are back in a bear market. Has sentiment changed that much? The drop was an overreaction of misleading news on China banning bitcoin. Instead it looks like the Chinese gov is taking a sustainable outlook on bitcoin with the future in mind.

Buy if price gets anywhere that close.

4-5 months?  Trump goes in office in a few days.  I wouldn't be surprised to see some type of large scale economic events that affect price one way or another sooner.

What do you think of Trump's leniency towards Israel?

The first major drop this month was over exaggerated news on China cracking down on bitcoin, when all they did is tell BTC exchanges that they can't market bitcoin with depreciating yuan, and that they should also cut down fake volume and simply warn customers that bitcoin is volatile. Not only does this show China's understanding of bitcoin, but it seems they are also taking a balanced and prudent approach with the long-term view in sight.

This drop seems exaggerated as well, BTCC says everything is business as usual. It is pretty evident by now that China does not intend to ban bitcoin nor limit the exchanges in a meaningful way.

So given what you know you tell me if the drop from $1160 to $790 was justified over the China news alone. It seems like a combination of a much needed correction accelerated by exaggerated fears of China cracking down on bitcoin when they are not. You either believed that bitcoin had no business being at $1000 during the entire run-up or you believed that it was about time, that bitcoin actually deserves to be at $1000 and that it needs to start getting expensive relatively soon for it to be sustainable. If your sentiment turned 180 from the climb to $1000 to now then you're being played by emotions and have no idea what you're doing. If you invested with the long term vision in mind I don't see any reason to panic, this is a gross over exaggeration of China's stance on bitcoin.

Also, I'm not a trader but isn't this the perfect setup for cup and handle?

And also, my dad wants to put $30K into bitcoin, you're welcome. Actually I didn't even convince him, I showed him how much I'm up on bitcoin and he asked me why I'm not selling... you guys know why, I told him there's no limit to the BTC price and things are looking good especially when the rest of the world isn't, and he's been reading up on bitcoin since

If you're in the US have your dad purchase through itBit. I've found that anything over $5,000 is best to go through them. You have to pay for the wire transfer but the lower exchange percentage makes up for it over $5k.

The big-blockers need to fork off already so that we can get on with Project Bitcoin, Satoshi's Vision and not this twisted Kore-Coin crapola.

If we don't, price will continue to stagnate.

Bitcoin has the potential to benefit in infinite ways from the global economic turmoil that is around the corner. In this way, BTC's price could spike to unimaginable highs. But it will never happen with no scaling solution, BTC simply could not handle an increase in 100 million+ users. There is no time to wait 5 years for this imaginary "Lightning Network" to suddenly manifest from vaporware into reality.

FORK IT ALREADY.

Fuck off with your BU bullshit

SegWit and LN aren't the end-all scaling solution but they are definitely more real and ready and less risky than a YOLO-FORK to BU

It has to do with the issue of trust. It should come as no surprise, that people in the ecosystem of Bitcoin - an invention with the stated purpose of not having to trust a single central authority - will not trust central authorities. You might be convinced of technological superiority of core's approach (for the record: I am on the fence about this) but failing to realize this simple issue about trust isn't helping anyone and keeps fostering an unnecessary divide in the community.

I don't understand this argument at all. How exactly is Core a central authority and how do you solve this perceived problem of trust by instead trusting this other 'central authority' called BU? I don't need to trust Core at all, I don't worry they're going to break Bitcoin one day since the consensus rules are not easily changed and requires the entire ecosystem to pretty much agree. If BU was the main software that ran the network I would be very worried though, since with them I am not so sure the consensus rules wouldn't be changed on a whim. By the way Core is not a company or corporation and doesn't speak with one voice, anyone can contribute to it and a great number of developers with diverse opinions about many Bitcoin related issues do and peer review each other. Let's not throw away what we have here because we're impatient about scaling Bitcoin or disagree on how to do it exactly.

Quote
Is it really that hard to understand, that people are going to be skeptical of centrally mandated policies? Especially when they are coming from people who have been shown to engage in censorship and breaking promises, while being funded by the very financial institutions their product is officially meant to replace?

How does Core exactly engage in censorship and breaking promises? They have done none of these things, it's this kind of talk and theories that fuel the flames of division. Say it often enough and people start to believe it. I've seen a lot of open discussions about how to scale Bitcoin and in the end it all boils down to a simple thing. Most Core developers but also many experts outside the Core community believe that it's important we keep nodes relatively cheap to run in order to keep the most important aspect of Bitcoin which is decentralization. Onchain scaling therefore is limited and will never be able to support global adoption without sacrificing decentralization, so true scaling to meet global demand needs to come from 2nd layer solutions like lightning. I personally fully agree with this. There are people who disagree however and don't think it's a problem if nodes can only be run in big datacenters, and although I think that's very dangerous it's perfectly okay if someone has that opinion. However you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that this is a very contentious issue and there's no way that Bitcoin can just hardfork to satisfy these people. So why the need for all the strife and division? We can all just agree to disagree here, we've discussed this long and hard enough by now. Complaints about censorship on a Bitcoin subreddit does not change anything. I have pretty much seen and heard all the arguments for and against a hard fork for a simple increase to 2MB, Segwit as a soft fork or Segwit as a hard fork (+ increase). Segwit as a soft fork is the only viable option here that has any chance to be accepted any time soon, and then hopefully a hard fork later if enough people calmed down again to allow consensus to form for another increase. People just need to learn to not get caught up in the drama that's mostly instigated by those who see Bitcoin as a threat and want it to fail.

It's all propaganda fueled by Ver.

These idiots think the entire bitcoin world revolves around r/bitcoin, and that Core = r/bitcoin and that somehow Core is involved in the moderation policy that happens in r/bitcoin.

Back above $1K, and not a single Average Joe around me knows anything more about Bitcoin/blockchain than they did in 2013, or even seems to care.  This is amazing.

Now I know why they call them "late adopters".  I don't blame the really old, the really young or the unborn. I blame the older, middle-aged folks who have money to invest, but are just too plain ignorant to see the financial change tsunami that is coming.  By the time they finally look up, Bitcoin will be well north of $10K.

I remember my grandmother still writing physical checks for everything, 7-8 years after the rest of society had moved on to using the debit card. She finally used one a few years before she died, and I remember the look on her face.... she was blown away at the convenience. Priceless.

I remember me getting on dial-up on the PC in my bedroom, when my parents though I was in there "hacking" ala War Games style.  They thought the internet was and always would be just a toy for nerds.

I remember carrying around a clunky Treo smartphone (which was actually smaller than your average smartphone today), when literally *everyone* thought smartphones were for nerds.  Especially the women, lol.

Agreed, I'm surprised at how little people know about bitcoin even now. I never thought I was an early adopter but I'm beginning to think we are. I'm glad there is no hype and media attention around $1000 this time... we need to stop putting $1000 on a pedestal, it's long overdue... I want the hype to come when we hit the next milestone of $2000... and then people will be like oh shit, I knew about bitcoin when it was $900!

As I said yesterday, I figure we'll probably spend a few days of sideways consolidation before the next proper leg up past the Stamp ATH.

Look at you.  Party pooper.

We have a 5% price increase in 24 hours and a 10% increase in less than a week.  Seems like this whole upward and ongoing price migration situation is going pretty well, and the battle for the ATH has not even begun yet.. has it? - even though I can see that the volume of the past 24 hours has picked up a little bit, those levels do not seem like any kind of battle...

Accordingly.. it seems as if both sides have yet to really employ any kind of meaningful ammunition in regards to our current and ongoing upwards price migration situation.

Do you see things otherwise?  glass half full?  overly anxious?  expecting more? , which one is it?

I mean back in the day we used to wipe our ass with 5-10% rises... now it's considered "moon" and we haven't even broken 2013 ATH. That is not moon. I miss the days of 10X-50X rises which will probably never happen again.... especially if people are putting $1000 price on a pedestal

How are you and your hubby doing?  Still holding for the long term?  What's your take on how Bitcoin is doing?

I am still hodling.  Husband is less of a hodler than me and has been selling systematically.  Our strategy is to follow the "SSS" plan.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345065.msg3697405#msg3697405

Compared to 2013 I feel much less emotional and more level headed though.  I understand how getting too emotional during rises is dangerous and it is better to just have a logical plan in place and stick with it.

I think we are on a brink of a bubble.  Of course depending on what happens with the ETF this coming week will determine how quickly we see the bubble take off.   I fully expect to see prices in the $5000 range but I have always been the optimist in regards to BTC, hence why I was willing to hold since 2013. Wink

Lol I remember how delusional you were in 2013. I think I was too after the nov 2013 rally, but boy you were on another level lmao.. talking about 2014 was gonna be the "year of bitcoin" and shit lol.  Too bad yall started selling BTC though, should've been buying during the bear market like me Wink

It looks clear now that the ETF will be approved and there will be a pre-announcement in 3 days, this Wednesday after the market closes in NY. There is enough information floating around now from government employees that know someone who knows someone who knows something.

The pre-announcement will have just enough information to leave some doubt but will also be enough to bring the price closer to an equilibrium in the event of a full ETF approval announcement. The last thing a government fish-head wants is to be credited with spiking bitcoin by 200%, so pre-announcements and copious leaks is all part of the plan to get it priced in beforehand.

Thanks Elwar for being the go-between again, your help is appreciated.

Wow this afternoon looks like we have lyrics competition...

This is how much you boring with the price stable i think right? don't worry....some hours to open the banks again... $1300 will be broken soon ?

any ideas?

Yeah, I think $1300 will happen tomorrow.  Given all the claims we've had this weekend that the ETF is already approved, regardless of how false thise claims may be, and the banks reopening to let money flow to the exchanges, I think people won't be able to resist taking extra steps to make sure they're on that rocket when it launches  Tongue

I'm intrigued by Elwar's jump to 3 in his countdown!

I asked before but up to now i had no answer so can you please tell me what are the news regarding the ETF? i saw elwar posted the number 3...
now you tell me the ETF is already approved... what happend?? i left for some hours yesterday and today and i missed all the fun?

This is the "news" about the ETF, although I wouldn't bet the house on it. If I worked for the SEC I wouldn't risk prosecution by blurting confidential news out ahead of time.

My good friend is Pete McMillan and he works as a clerk for the SEC. He sent me a screenshot yesterday of his laptop. On it was the press release for next Wednesday on the Bitcoin Winklevii ETF... So the decision has already been made folks.

I thought this bit of information would silence the debate that has been raging the past few hours. Remember to only invest more than you can afford and never take the advice of anyone that is prepared to give it. Also, remember that no shoes were made for a cobbler's feet before they are first made for his children.

"If the market begins to move toward blockchain technology, regulators need to be in a position to lead, harnessing its benefits and responding quickly to potential weaknesses." -Kara Stein, SEC

Its worth noting this quote is from 2015. Since then JP Morgan has released Quorum, an Etherium based ledger. Enterprise Ethereum Alliance is very much a thing now whether you like it or not. It includes banks like BNY Mellon, CME Group, ING, UBS, Santander and JPMorgon.

While I dont have many quotes from Piwowar, he's a GOP stalwart and very anti-regulation. He recently called for allowing ordinary investors to buy unregistered securities.. Basically, he wants everyone to buy OTC stocks, not just bigwigs. Thats insane btw, and what the SEC was made to prevent. I dont see him holding COIN up.

Trump nominated Jay Clayton to the SEC, but seeing as he hasnt been voted on by the Senate, its probably not going to happen before the 13th.

Its worth noting that a tie vote by the SEC means COIN is approved.

TL;DR Hold on to your butts.

Mr. "I'm gonna defraud a million bucks from daddy under false pretenses" (bystanders might ask Dafar what I refer to here)

I note you make no argument -- only sling shit -- in your screed.

I'm not married to segwit, but I'm unconvinced that BU or any hardfork-driven change to the actual protocol is necessary or even the right move. I rarely hear any talks about the merits of BU over segwit, 90% of the time the opinions of that community become so personal and political that it's hard to even hear reason in their arguments. When you don't have the merits to back up your argument you rely on propaganda, but I'm getting sick of being told bitcoin is dying unless some drastic HF happens right now. That is just bullshit and my vision of bitcoin is not as shortsighted as these people. I'm okay with bitcoin being the way it is right now, scaling is gonna happen one way or another... and I will back the side that has received extensive testing and review. Segwit offers most of what people wanted to begin with, which is a near doubling of transaction capacity, virtually all of the technical community supports it, and wallets are ready to go with that support. I just don't see people's attraction to BU and I have done my due diligence

Quote
Oh look - new material edited. OK - amongst the ad-homs you do say one thing at least defensible:

BU may never achieve critical mass. As neither has done Classic or others...

Actually, you are a BU supporter so the answer is yes

It is hilarious how much panic a few BU blocks can cause.  Even if BU becomes the majority, it won't fork until a large size is coordinated with all the relevant actors.  Nobody in their right mind would mine a block bigger than 1MB before everyone is ready.  If they do, fuck 'em.  But all the smallblockists are shitting themselves over nothing.

I'm glad you have confidence, but a lot of the parties who support BU don't seem to have bitcoins best interest in mind. Just go visit the BU fourm r/btc, half the posters are alt coin pumpers and they are just praying for BU to gain more traction

Yes, well apparently nobody read my entire post because I also said you need to invest "more" than you can afford to lose... details people, details

I always tell people to invest more than they can afford to lose when it comes to Bitcoin.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=843822.0

So fuck it, here's my advice. Invest everything you can put together. The price is damn low and we're probably within 10-20% of the bottom (current price, $325). Drop your damn Roth...they'll find a way to tax it when you retire. Investing more than your company's matching into your 401k? Fuck that, dump it into Bitcoin. Any equity on your house? Refinance, put all of that money into bitcoins...the dollar will lose value in the next 30 years to the point where your $100-$300k mortgage will be pocket change.

Do you have a job? If tomorrow your Bitcoin investment went to $0 would you still be able to live? Then dump it all into bitcoins...now.

TL;DR: YOLO

That was at $325 though... even I knew to go yolo back then... what about now? That's the real question. I'm still a proponent of investing more than you are willing to lose when it comes to bitcoin Wink

And where's your countdown bro? Isn't the ETF decision happening today

ETF isn't even a good thing for bitcoin.  It's in fact totally pointless for bitcoin to have an ETF.  The only purpose the ETF serves is an exit scheme for the Winklevoss.  Now they have 200,000 coins they need to dump on a bunch of insolvent and illiquid exchanges unless they can find OTC buyers.

lol it's the uninformed jew shill

ETF denial just prevented many people and organizations from acquiring Bitcoin in their portfolios. It definitely would have been a good thing for bitcoin. Why the hell would the Winklevoss unload their own BTC when ETF would dry the supply even further and naturally rise the price

One of the critiques was from Professor Bitcorn stating that 50% of bitcoins are owned by less than 1000 people. Mark Zuckerburg alone owns almost 30% of Facebook and yet they are just fine with listing his little fund. Many companies list their stocks on the exchanges with most of the ownership belonging to two or three people.

And that high percentage number goes down over time as we all see the early adopters dump a large amount of their coins periodically.

I am willing to bet that they do not hold all future ETFs to such a high standard. I would be willing to write to the SEC during any open request for comments to ask if the new ETF fulfills all of the requirements that they rejected Bitcoin for.

Fuck that guy... what is his problem? Why is he even commenting on bitcoin after his ridiculous claims of BTC going to $10

Imagine the walls we'll observe when that value comes back into Bitcoin.

BTC doesn't have a catalyst to go higher right now so people see a stable BTC price and will go into altcoins. Hence the pump. after the pump i assume money will go into LEGIT projects. BTC should be flat next few months

How about increasing demanding and limited supply?

We always need a catalyst to move up? What is the catalyst in these alts? "hey bitcoin's not going anywhere, let's yolo in one of these alts that might pump for no reason"

The bad actors have created the fake civil war on purpose. It's about 20% real.

Bitcoin XT and Mike Hearn, Bitcoin Classic and Gavin, Bitcoin Unlimited and Roger Ver.

Three attempts to take-over development with a woefully inadequate support from programmers. Each attack has failed on technical measures before even fooling enough people. Each time they spun up fake nodes on VPS's to mimic support.

The three characters above were once great assets to the Bitcoin community but have become compromised, blackmail, payments or who knows what - but they are being led around by the balls, or truly idiots.

First they ignore you.  <--- all other crypto/altcoins are still here
Then they laugh at you.
Then they fight you.  <--- Bitcoin is here now
Then you win.

People don't realize that 'they' (the powers that be) are now circling Bitcoin like sharks, trying desperately in whatever ways they can to slow it down, set it back, or kill it forever.

'They' have run out of physical/technical ways to try and hinder or bring down Bitcoin (e.g., 0day bugs/hacks, DDoS, MtGox insolvency, exchanges hacked and/or going offline, FUD/negative news, etc.)

Now they only have one real play left: Social Engineering. They load up the forums with shills/trolls, trying to split the community and sway public opinion against Bitcoin in general.  They prop up and promote other alt coins now as "Bitcoin 2.0" and "way better". They string along and stall a Bitcoin ETF ruling for years, only to deny it at the 11th hour and laugh. They have even managed to gaslight former prominent Bitcoin proponents like Gavin, Roger, Mike, and big Chinese miners with false information or outright bullshit (Craig Wright is Satoshi, anyone?).

Once this line of BS fails, and it will, the next wave will be direct head-to-head Bitcoin competition: Gov't sponsored/endorsed Bankcoins, and eventually Bankcoin ETFs.

Believe it. You read it here first.

So anyone care to explain why this whole BU fork FUD just happens to come up immediately after the ETF disapproval?  Hmmm?

You guys are getting played.  The pumpers ALWAYS come up with a reason to DUMP following an ATH.  If they can't exploit a hole, hack an exchange, or DDoS the shit out of one, they'll find another way.

The new way is pretty simple: social engineering based on emotion.  Make something trivial about Bitcoin into a big deal, create troll/shill accounts to divide the community, push $$$ towards alts and tout them as 'Bitcoin 2.0', and get everyone whipped up in a frenzy.  And short-dump on the way down.

Apparently, 90% of the time it's gonna work every time. Because bitcoiners are a bunch of overgrown whiny babies that can be easily manipulated.

Social engineering got Trump elected, and the fact that it might be working on bitcoin is the problem. The risk is not reflected on the price above $1000, and there's nothing at the moment that's gonna push us above the $1300 barrier

Well, transaction fees to get into next block are now $2.18, so bitcoin is now more expensive than an ATM.  This means it's usage as a currency is rapidly dwindling and putting it into settlement network only territory, except it doesn't actually function as a store of value like metals, so not useful as a settlement network.  The fundamentals just don't make any sense in that regard.  I assume the bitcoin traffic will also begin to spill into another coin looking for lower fees (probably litecoin).

Well true but the solution for transaction throughput is there... the community just needs to agree and implement which I think will happen.

BTC is still a better store of value than precious metals. Upside potential far greater than gold/silver... with greater ease of access and ability to move the value anywhere in the world, not to mention use it for online shopping and via ATMs.

You should re-read what you just typed, because there's probably hundreds of people reading your post who have had the exact same feeling with some altcoin before, then they tried to ride the profits higher and they vaporized taking them back to square one.  The fact is, the second any type of life changing profits occur, the price always craters right after.  What % bitcoin can rise in a short duration before said action occurs is up for debate though.  Having any type of life changing profit occur and then not taking any profit off the table is the definition of insanity.

Profit in what? A currency that will likely go away in the next 10 years due to a debt bubble and more wars?

I shoud've just converted all my BTC to ETH...

easy to say in retrospect. and who knows what tomorrow brings? ethereum is storing up plenty of its own problems for the future. bitcoin might well be in the clear by then.

going all in during any pump doesn't make sense. the time to do it was in 2015 when everyone was at maximum indifference.

Yeah, I don't mean to say I have regrets.... it made no logical sense to go all in on ETH after a 1000X rise... who would've known it still wants to go parabolic? Maybe it doesn't stop til $500 or $1000?? And no one in ETH community can explain why other than "ETH is da future!"

I could use some of dat parabolic movement in BTC

Going from a low of 200 to 2900 is not 'parabolic' enough for you?

Wow, greed.

And Bitcoin is not ever going to do 1000% in month or two, or even years. It's too big now, and it would take a Herculean amount of money now with like 500X leverage to do something like that, and there would have to be an unlimited amount of coins on exchanges (which there are not).

If Bitcoin ever spiked like that, I would be very afraid.

Of course I'm greedy, it's human nature... I won't be satisfied until my bitcoin portfolio is worth a million.... even a million these days is pocket change, I'm not asking for much. Are you saying 2X from 2013 ATH is all we are getting after 4 years? Bullshit. Give me at least $5K/btc

bitcoin doesn't have the ico/dapp hype that's turning into a feedback loop. that was a genius move on their part for as long as it lasts, which won't be much longer.

throw away 5% of your stash on shitcoins and see what happens. all you need is one to go places but kiss it goodbye before it goes just in case.

and didn't you put alot into xmr? aren't you up on that?

Is the ico/dapp feedback loop behind the insane price rise? At least that explains something. What sucks is all the newbies getting into crypto looks at ETH as "cheap" relatively to bitcoin and more fun because the price doesn't stop... kinda hurts bitcoin in terms of new adoption.

I don't stay in alts for long... I sold XMR already. I usually sell when I get a conservative 20-30% profit. I had ETH too and sold when I gained like 10% more BTC through the ETH/BTC ratio. Right now the only alt I'm holding is SC (siacoin) with targets to sell at 700 sats

Bro, I've been in BTC longer than that chart... if it was truly parabolic my $50K investment in bitcoin wouldve made me a millionaire, not a lame thousand-air

This is slow steady growth, which I'm not complain about at all, I love it actually. But people are claiming that we are due for a huge crash... I mean what?? We haven't even had much fun yet! At least give me dat parabolic move BEFORE we crash and do a 50% retrace

Give me at least $5K/btc

Trust me, it will get there. I wager we will see a $5K floor, yes floor, by the end of 2020. Supported by miners and by true long holders. Bitcoin will be seen as the only sensible crypto and the true value play. The price of bitcoin will of course continue to increase into the future, but likely more slowly over time. I guess we shall see. 99.99% people have yet to even buy some.

All the other shitcoins are supported by nothing but the pumpers and FOMO hype. When all that changes, and it will someday, the ICO market will get fully labeled as 'SCAM MARKET' and the sensible people will never return there again. They can only pull off the mega scam once.

I agree, that's why I'm holding Smiley

Are you dumping silver for cheaper BTC rebuy ?

What kind of fool would do that?  Silver is at cost of production or even below it for some miners.  Silver is a far better buy than BTC.  Next metals bull run will probably be gold $3000-3200, silver $90-120.  If there's some type of big economic event or lots of printing, gold $5000-ish, silver $166-$200.  If they're forced to revalue gold entirely in one act, gold will be set to $10-20k and silver will be astronomical.

And the price keeps creeping upward. $2300 before morning (EDT)?

Last week is beginning to look like an aberration. The almost 2-year-old uptrend seems to still be in order.

It's funny how a little panic-inspired dip of less than a week's duration had so many people talking about bursting bubbles, bear markets, and the death of Bitcoin.

It seems a certain honey badger had different ideas.

Sup? Wink

BTC barely mooned in this uptrend ($3K? pshh), lets at least get our moonshot before a bear market. That's gonna require some nice long weekly greens.

This bounce was strong, bears are gonna be fierce at the $2300 zone, but they getting nervous, segwit is just around the corner

If the parasites (Jihan, Ver, ViaBTC) all move their hash away from bitcoin... I hate to admit it but that makes BTC less secure overall but it's also nice to get rid of these clowns.

What's stopping Jihan, ViaBTC, and Ver to market dump their thousands of BTC after Aug 1 to plummet the price and freeze sales of BCC to artificially pump the price... making it appear as if BCC is the winning chain.

There is a little risk, but you can lend for 2 or 60 days max. It ussually gaves 0.10% but because of speculation about aug 1st is giving like 4% daily return. there is no way to it to not be payed, because that money is used for margin trading.

I have been lending in poloniex for 2 months, it really works.

The lowest loan offer right now is 3.1%.

The risks to loaning on POLO are listed below.
a) A flash crash happens and the POLO program doesn't call the margin in time for the loan taker to pay you back.
b) Polo's program has an error and you do not get your funds back,
c)Your Polo account gets hacked, and someone manages to steal you coins when they are not on order.
d)Polo becomes insolvent due to coins getting hacked/embezzeled/seized.

Michael Pento says metals will have broken all time highs by late 2018 and bitcoin useless:

His quotes:
"That's the beauty about gold... it's extremely limited in supply" [as if bitcoin's aren't??]
"...and neither of those attributes [such as limited supply] can be said about ANY digital currency" WTF??

I happen to like Mike Pento, but he really needs to do some more research on Bitcoin before he makes such statements.

He's not stupid, he knows there's 900+ craptocurrencies and there's more incentive to create your own new pump and dump like Ethereum rather than be forced to buy someone else's already cornered scamcoin.  There will always be a market incentive to create new coins as well rather than people paying $5, $10, $100, or $1000 transaction fees.  The greater fool concept only works if people actually need what you have.

If Elwar corners all 21 million bitcoins, guess what?  It doesn't mean anything to me.  I can just ignore him and go on with life and use metals or create my own craptocurrency to bypass him.  If I corner all $40 billion or so of above ground silver, you don't get to bypass me since it's actually a non-virtual good that's used in lots of things.  A "virtual commodity" as a concept definitely ranks up there as one of the biggest economic scams of all time.

The market cap of above ground silver and bitcoin is similar now.  Bitcoin is no longer some cheap penny stock.  The US gold vs debt chart with 92% correlation shows gold will hit at least $2200 in the next bull run, which would bring the GSR to 30:1 or lower ($73 silver).  Bitcoin would need to hit $12,000 to compete with that almost guaranteed silver upside in the near future.

But that's a very conservative number for just a stable market situation.  In a real crisis situation and rush to hard assets, gold would be more like $5000 and $166 silver or more.  Or a government metals revaluation of gold to $10k and silver to 1:15 ratio of astronomically high numbers like $600 silver.  Bitcoin would need to be able to hit $100k each to compete with that possible silver upside.  It will never happen.  Big corporations will just create their own scamcoins and try to force people into them and the crypto market cap will be divided up between 50 different coins (also due to poor scalability and high fees), unlike the metals market where you can't just "invent" a new gold or silver and are forced to buy the real thing.

So gold will hit $2200 based off the arbritarty gold vs debt chart, and silver is guaranteed at least $73 because of gold silver ratio... ok.

We have 1000s of scam coins today, they are not holding bitcoin back one bit... your last point falls apart from the evidence we've have been seeing since the first altcoin.

Bitcoin will hit $10K before gold or silver has another rally (IF they have another rally). Menials will prefer bitcoin over gold, it's much more useful and upside is much higher. Sorry you sold.

Slept in a little later than I'd planned today but I see I didn't miss much.
