Here's an analogy specifically crafted for the ageing brain, hehehe...
Why, thanks!   Grin And here is a parabolic fable for you:

In 1903 the Wright brothers flew their first aeroplane, the Wright Flyer I, and Scientific American published a paper about it.  Some young mechanics nerds became excited by the invention, built some replicas of the plane and started playing with them. They predicted that the Flyer would radically change the way people moved and lived, e.g. by flying through coffee shops and picking up their drinks with special hooks,  or flying through their friends' windows at Christmas instead of sending them postcards.

Then some libertarians realized that a Flyer would be handy to carry away their "dirty" cash when the police came knocking, and so they all started buying Flyers from the nerds.  Drug dealers then thought that the machine could be used to smuggle drugs across the Rio Grande, and started buying them by the hundreds too.

Then several Wright Flyer dealerships opened in China, and the Chinese started buying them like crazy.

Each of these surges in demand drove the price up by 10x.  Seeing that, other people realized that they could become filthy rich by investing in Flyers.  They calculated that if, in the future, only 10% of the people who then traveled by horse would use a Flyer instead, each plane (which they could still buy for a few thousand dollars) would be worth millions.  This thought drove many people crazy, and they invested all their worth, and then some more, in those machines.

The 1000% per year growth of Wright Flyer price then attracted troves of finance businessmen and venture capitalists. Soon they were offering hundreds of financial instruments and services based on it -- such as bonds backed by fleets of Wright Flyers that their owners wanted to get rid of, and services that would exchange Flyers for horses, for Flyer owners who needed to go where planes could not land (which, at that time, was pretty much everywhere).

There were some setbacks, for sure; like when the feds seized a huge fleet of Flyers from a drug cartel, when the Chinese government prohibited any use of Flyers that involved flying, and when thousands of investors lost half a billion dollars buying non-existent Flyers from a Japanese dealer.  Those and other mishaps caused the plane's price to drop somewhat; but, by that time, thousands of enthusiasts had become firmly convinced that the Wright Flyer I was the means of transportation of the future, and continued to believe in its longterm appreciation.   (They actualy welcomed the temporary price drop, since it allowed them to buy more Flyers with their strained paychecks.)

Meanwhile, many inventors (including, some suspect, the Wright brothers themselves) had been busy developing bigger, better, safer, faster aeroplanes.  But Wright Flyer I enthusiasts scorned them.  They pointed out that those competing designs were just minor variations of the basic idea, and did not have the extensive network of repair shops and part suppliers of their original model, nor the public confidence that it had accrued in those four years since it was invented, nor the mllions that had been invested in ventures and services based on it.  They were certain that, in a few months, those alternative designs would fail and would be forgotten, while the Wright Flyers that they had piled up in their backyards would continue to grow in value, 10x every year.

And they laughed at some pessimists who predicted that governments might one day regulate aircraft and air travel ("Ha! How can they enforce regulations on machines that can fly away from them?"), ban the Wright Flyer I from the skies, or even use aircraft to expand their power, e.g. by using them to chase drug smugglers and spy into people's private land.

I do not know what happened next, but surely time must have vindicated those Wright Flyer I enthusiasts.  Grin

This is just awesome ! Cheesy What a beautiful story, personally i can't wait to read what happens next to the Wright Flyer I. I hope you re gonna finish your story soon with a happy end.

Probably miners are dumping newly generated coins and "old guys" like us are either full in; or  - as in my case - on the limit of the strategy "do not risk more that you can afford to loose". After converting 10% of my life's savings into Bitcoin, I am now hesitating as hell to convert even more Fiat into BTC. And believe me, I lost a hell of money in the process of believing in the technology. Unfortunately I came into the game on Dec/2013.

What we need is something that turns Bitcoin trxs as easy for general audience as email sending. It cannot be that whole new herds of users are forced to go through bottlenecks as the handfull (if so) number of classic exchanges located in non-sexy places.

The reason why I am a full Hodler and still following the daily news about it, is surely the innovation of technology + the bet that soon or later, the WKV twins will succeed to launch their ETF.

When people can start to invest using classic channels and a cell phone call, then we will have the required number of wealthy users, I think.

What are you waiting for ? Buy ??!

I am a little frustrated today though.  My husband told me that his aunt, which decided to purchase a few coins at $650 a while ago, called yesterday and wanted to bail out and told him to sell them all (he was holding them for her because she seemed to have difficulty with computer security).  Really?  Right when the rally is just getting started?  Sigh.  Now is the time to buy or at least HODL!

if this shows any signs of weakens at this point I am short.

This pump was leaded by LTC and will likely follow the pattern for my understanding...
The squeeze potential is quiet big right now..

Bitcoin Market Cap:     $4,343,815,046
LTC Market Cap:        $276,834,126

BTC 15,7 times bigger. 'leaded by LTC...' lol

I am really curious how far this uptrend will last. The order books are pretty thin, that means a 5 million $ movement in the litecoin market still has a pretty significant impact in btc if it happens in one single exchange. Just look at the OKCoin spike to 366$.

Squeeze of what? The majority of the leveraged long position has been locked in since the low 200's, probably a huge BTC stash from an early adopter / miner. In fact the long position is falling as the price rises.

Profit taking is natural. But shorting every rise would have stung traders very badly for the last 6 weeks. If the price really starts moving then literally anything could happen and shorting without risk management is cray cray.

Technical traders are looking to get in at a decent entry. I am just enjoying the 3 at the beginning of the price Smiley

Well, this is not going to go up forever like this. That's not how markets behave.

who said "forever"? we had a 1.5 year bear market and you start to criticise in the first month of an eventual bull market? just 150$ away from recent selloff-low? lol!

i have seen bull runs in stock-markets that lasted DECADES.

Posts like the one from Galix make you realize how many weak hands this market has, they will all sell at 650$ and miss out the biggest part of the rally.

I expect the halvingday and finally the ETF(we're waiting long enough, seriously..) will ignite a new rally. The cuurent prices of 220-300 are just the old 5-12$ price area.

We are "lucky" because we can watch the whole chart of the past. We(the new and current newbies) can learn from the mistakes of others. I learned it in a very conservative way. I was just reading old threads from the year 2011 and 2012. If you would erase the time stamp and the price numbers in these posts, you would think they are talking about the present price actions.

This is also a great thread to get a summarization of the mistakes made in the past: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163258.0

How do you figure? explain

He probably means the gap with no buy orders shown by the yellow arrow. It was a nice evenly spaced run of buy orders, then that gap suddenly appeared with walls above and below it. The whole buy side looks artificial now, but the market is heavily manipulated by whales sometimes.

I mean the small green "stairs" in your picture. Depending on the direction where the manipulator wants to move the market, he creates or pulls his walls. That is going on for weeks already on bitfinex.

Back to the question at hand. Sell or buy.

The main point here is how could we possibly not crash lower or have another crash over the weekend?

It just seem obvious
Will I be the first person to leap out of a window because of bitcoin? Stay tuned!

Depends on if there is another crash  Cool

bitcoin will be fiiiiine
Not my marriage!

maybe buying BTC was a good move for you personally... -10% is better then -50%  Undecided
Fucking bitcoin.
Can't live with it.
Would kill myself without it.
So the question comes down to if I value the marriage more then bitcoin.
Truthfully I don't know Sad

My GF is sleeping right now, I painted her a Picasso to explain what happened tonight. I made a picture of it for you.

Seriously though why did we get this excessive selling? Nothing went wrong with bitcoin, just the ETF not coming for now. I understand a correction but this was massive. Anyway, don't be a bottom seller I guess because the price will increase again as it always does.

i guess, the reason we went down that fast and that much is because we had an army of traders ready and willing to either go all in or all out at a moment's notice.

its rare we get this kind of action because it rare we all get 1 critical piece of info at the very same time.

True, that was a good moment for a trade on a lagging exchange.

Exactly. A lot of sheeple gambling that either a positive ETF decision would lead to an instant massive price rise, or a negative ETF decision would lead to an instant massive price drop.

The reality is that bitcoin is the same now as it was this morning. Nothing has fundamentally changed. Except that all of the massive over-hyping in both directions can now be put aside, and the price can carry on with its steady rise unimpeded by the distraction of the ETF decision, as it has done for the past two years. Onwards and upwards....

Well, I paid 3€ fee for 1 kB to be included in the next block. I really think we have a problem.

Dafar, you are currently too emotional when it comes to Bitcoin. Don't buy back at a loss. The price could easily swing back down to retest the 950$ bottom. Don't let the hardfork FUD impact you that much, it is the same story like it was in august 2015, when the price crashed from 270$ down to 170$(at Bitfinex). What I learned from that is: hardfork FUD is always a great buying opportunity.

I managed to catch the dip at 950$ and increased my trading stash by 25%. Now I am again at 15% profit. All coins are now back in cold storage, riding the swings for the next 12 months until they are taxfree again.

Obviously I was just lucky and I have no idea what I am doing. Smiley

I have this crazy perspective about the Core vs. Unlimited BTC. The miners saying that their BTU will be the winner is a lot of wishfull thinking IMO. Just because they process the blocks they now somehow own the system??? They're hired help. That's why they get paid to do their job.

If we get the fork with two competing currencies, which one will be the winner? The market will decide, sure. Specifically the buyers. People giving their $$$ in exchange for BTC, not the miners. They really should take a step back and figure out they're not the bosses and they can get fired if they go too far...

By activating SegWit and allowing layer2 solutions to be deployed, Bitcoin would soar in price due to higher utility and higher transaction throughput causing a stronger network effect - therefore increasing the mining revenue.

I am curious if this drama is really financially profitable for this mining company.

I don't get it, how can you lose your full trading stash from a 10% eth/btc move ?
I put all my btc into ethereum on march 26, switched to btc because ethereum was going down and btc was going up. After i done that, btc was going down and ethereum was goin up. They are move divergential. So i switched to ethereum again. After that ethereum was going down, btc too, but ethereum faster. So i paniced and went full retart and switched to fiat after almost 1 month. So i was is fiat, btc dumped like expected BUT that stupid Ether was going up like i mentioned. They are moving divergential. A negative correlation. So my plan could have worked but i expected Ether to crash anytime soon because Bitcoin is amost bottomed-out. They were just driving me crazy and i lost controll. 2 rules of trading; stay calm and be pacient. I wasnt because i knew the altcoin party is almost over and btc dump was almost finished too. I was too greedy and inpacient. I bought 230 ether on february, and dumped them at the same price because nothing happened and bitcoin continued to go up. After i did that Ether increased with 400% so i lost that oppurtunity too because i dont have the pacience.

Its the best to stay away and stop with trading for ever for me. There is just that one moment when you finally lose your controll and pacience and start making stupid moves.
So i will build my cold stash (trying to increase it with 250%) with my fiat money.

Ahh, I see what your problem is: It's impossible to trade an asset if you know that it is essentially crap. You should try to find trading pairs, which you are comfortable to hold to, even at a temporary loss. This worked for me in the past with Blackcoin and Monero.

So participate and make a guess or stand by the sidelines and be a skeptic. But dont sow any seeds of doubt, we have enough of that here already when some of the fudsters crawl out again

It's going to have a (probably) negative effect on the price of Bitcoin, but hey, supposing you employ replay attack prevention, it IS free altcoin. Let's hope it doesn't go down too much in this mess, though. I will definitely dump ABC if I get the opportunity.

Who cares about short term price fluctuations, either way it's going to be simultaneously free BitcoinCash Coins and probably cheaper real Bitcoins. I take that opportunity with open arms.

Sure, if you're ok with missing the BCC airdrop. But you get royally rewarded for that.

Of course BCH is going higher. It's near impossible to get BCH to an exchange to dump it. The pumpers are not having to work very hard at the moment.

In the meantime BCH is failing to mine blocks. So much for being the 'faster' bitcoin. They are finding out that it's not so simple to build something that actually works.

They are not failing, they just simply stopped. They will continue after they left the 12h difficulty adjustment window.

where are you getting the 50 sats figure from?

Yeah, it seems to rise a little. A few hours ago I was sending a lot of transactions (I could almost call that spam) to combine many tx addresses in a few single tx addresses with a fee of 50 sat/byte and most of them got immediatly included in the next block or at latest in the 2nd, eventhough the mempool was still bigger than >20 MB. It's going to be like every single other 'OMIGOD WE'RE GONNA DIE' threat that's popped up since minute one. An acceptable solution to all will eventually be hammered out.

If you want to panic then rent a cinderblock bunker in the woods, line it with rubber, put on a helmet and beat yourself around the head and throw yourself at the walls until November.

It'll be a great workout.

By launching BCH Bitmain have already fucked the NYA. Everyone else will slowly fall away.

Just replace-by-fee split your coins to both chains and you are good to go. A little bit more complicated than the replay protected split with BTH, but still doable.

Riddle me this: Why are regulators so allergic to ICO's, while they "tolerate" BTC? Not that I like ICO's, but I fail to see how are they more disruptive than BTC?

They hate ICO's because they are scams and little people are getting ripped off.

I believe they are a headache to regulators primarily because most are scams. They don't want to deal with the public fallout if ICOs don't deliver on promises or disappear with investor funds.

But also, because ICOs do an end-around the existing company IPO process... which is a rigged system for the 1% where only the company founders, the initial angel investors and the VCs get rich by receiving the lion's share of the stock (> 95%) before launch. ICOs have the potential to disrupt that rigged system and allow more Average Joes to invest very early (like crowdfunding but getting a major stake).

With Bitcoin, there is nothing they can do. Bitcoin is no company, has no CEO, is decentralized, and therefore nothing they can shut down. They have to tolerate it. But boy oh boy, if they could easily shut it down they would in a heart beat.

Yeah Torque, but please don't forget that already now mining pools are bribed to handle specific ICO transactions before any other transactions. This is still not a fair market.

Still anticipate more sideways above the blue diagonal trend line while staying at or above the 21 EMA in the 2-Day TF for a while. Do not anticipate we go to or below the 21 EMA until late April to early May, 2019. I'm expecting them to continue keeping margin longs and margin shorts constantly guessing for the remainder of April. I anticipate a shakeout (small dump) in mid to late May before we begin with a Wyckoff Spring and/or up-thrust the last week of May to first week of June, 2019.

Prowdclown excepts a small dip to the 21d tf EMA line, I'm probably fine with both directions. Currently trying to catch the smaller and smaller dips.

Whole of BTC-world knows this story and everybody is with Elwar, just so Nice to read and to hear he’s ok....

GoGoGo Elwar and be safe!!!

It's fucking scary and frightening what is going on in the world. All the best from me as well to Elwar, who was just trying to taste some of the thing called 'freedom' after all.

Apparently that is what you get when you try to leave the system behind, death threats and fleeing a country.

Why would I hate women?  I don't even hate black people or jews.  If a racoon gets into your garbage, you don't hate the raccoon.  Similarly, if one is aware of the predatory nature of the female, or the likelihood of a random colored person to steal your bicycle or try to kill you for no reason, it's pretty much the same thing.  You just recognize the problem, adapt and overcome.

Wait, so by that logic are you saying that we shouldn't hate you either? That we should just accept you for a retarded self hating jewish Nazi who's parents were brother and sister who just got too close to each other one night, and who can't stop parroting that BTC is somehow not decentralized because no girl would touch you? Thus we should just adapt and overcome that by just ignoring you? That's the deepest thing i've ever heard you say roach

This just made my day xD

Really don’t get why anybody would be selling now. Surely it makes absolute sense to wait until at least a year after the halving but maybe that’s just me.

It's daytraders looking for a cheap entry and a few long term investors who are still on the sideline. I personally will go all-in the moment we might drop to 7300$. My current Bitcoin allocation of 90% is not satisfying enough.

This has been already invalidated bro. We are mid-December.

But thanks for posting. I also saw this chart when it came out and believed this prediction could become true.

This looked like a very fine and reasonable prediction just a month ago, sadly the market has became too unpredictable and irrational for this kind of scenario to occur.

Maybe next time when the serious investors finally see the light.

This is a live chart you ****** **** ?
