As a dual-use bitcoiner, I have mixed emotions about the news/fud about the Chinese markets. From the mining income perspective, I'd like to see stability with modest growth and not the wildly unpredictable changes we've experienced lately. From a day trader perspective, I have to have swings to trade.
I like to view the colorful graphs that many of you produce. As a card-carrying member of the human race, I like to form patterns that may, or may not, contain information that is useful.
I don't envy you long-term traders. I can't imagine trying to get a useful jump on the long term trends. That sort of mental gymnastics would soon drive me to drinking.
I, myself do day trading. The last month was one of the best months I have ever had since I started day trading 2 years ago.

I have 3 btc holdings.
1: Mining -> steadily increasing -> nothing sold and won't sell anything
2. Speculation -> Selling high, buying low -> can afford to lose all
3. Hodling -> paper wallet -> won't sell anything below 10000$, then start partially selling (btc amount % decrease, so I'll ever hodl some amount, even if btc reaches 1 billion dollars)
I'm still convinced that if nobody used btc to buy
drugs, pizzas or anything else, we wouldn't be here. Only hodling doesn't help.
It work probably for the small hodler with 0.01 btc, because he doesn't have a significant influence on the market. These people (or more likely kids) are dreaming of cars and girls ... they are just scumbugs trying to profit without doing anything. Like parasites.
What kind of silly talk are you on this time.
If you know this is happening, than i'm sure the Bank of America, the European banks and all others would have known this aswell. Which would have resulted in a ban on BTC. Not in an acceptance of BTC's.
Having drug money going around the world in the form of papers is a problem on it's own. When having a digital money going around on the web, not knowing on what it has been spend... fuck me. Thats a whole different game.

I lost 1k yesterday by shorting but as soon as I closed that position I went all in in ltc and btc, it was obvious that 800 will be attacked.
Havent gone short with BTC yet, just cause of bad timing (having reached a low at that time) or being at a very high price. I refuse going short when the price hits above $740,-. Just cause there is too much of a gamble for me. Going long has paid off for me for now.

Thats one way. I do day trades. Everyday my positions are closing at 01:00 AM. Than 01:05 I can buy again and do that for another 24 hours with new positions that I open.
Wish it was that easy. With the last low of 450,- I went in at 510,- sold it at 635,-. That in ONE day! Crazy shit.
Not expecting spikes like those... but hey, a dollar or 60 up is worth a trade.

I'm not the luckiest guy around, so I have to take my time and try to learn not to get burned too badly. I use stop loss points to prevent serious hurts, others do not.
The thing is, if you listen to the chatter here it will make matters worse instead of better. It took me about four months of lurking to identify who I thought were the real bulls and bears. Then it has taken me another 3 or 4 to identify those who intentionally spout dis-information, mis-information, and then there are the out-liars to contend with.
If you are new to any type of trading, just take baby steps and make a plan that you can stick to. Perhaps it would be best not to put all of your fiat on an exchange right away.
Regardless of the dogma spouted here about 'buy and hold', you can't increase your holdings without risk. Buy and hold is good if you don't care about an increase. Trading may let you increase your holdings without putting more fiat at risk.
On the other hand, what the hell to I know. I'm just a troll with an internet connection.

I'm new on these forums, and it's pretty obvious who knows his shit, and who does not.
But being in the forex trading for nearly 4 years made confident enough of buys, placing sl and tp's. This BTC thing is just completely new for me, and others. If you actually hodl BTC's you just wait it out. Let the storm pass, it's gone through a stress test twice this month. It's obvious that it stabalizes after a week orso. The question ofcourse is, will this happen in the future, and where exactly will it stop. For all I know it could go up to a staggering $1800,- and do a YOLO 2 days later going down to $800 again.
at 2 pm it's at 699,- at 10 pm it's nearly hitting $800. Just mind blowing to me, still.

Please don't get my post as an attack to dogecoin, it was not my intention. I am just very surprised.
I normally put some attention to alt coins just in case i want to invest a 5% and this one seems to be getting viral?. It is already moving more money daily than litecoin?
I dont see it as an attack. Like hell, make fun of it all day. In the meantime it gets more trading volume than Bitcoins. It's actually accessible for the mass, which Bitcoin is not.
Yes, Bitcoin is amazing. But looking at other altcoins which are rapidly rising into profitable coins, Bitcoin is not. What do you need these days for mining Bitcoins? A container ship filled with rigs. I pull in 25k of Dogecoins a day. Thats around 14 bucks. Minus electricity and what my rig has set me back, I end up with around 8 dollars a day. And that's at this price.
With 65k blocks broken down, the reward from the blocks will be cut in half once we hit a 100k. By that time, it will go up more, and more and hopefully, more.

I guess that some people have to learn the lesson the hard way, it just amaze me......
I think most noobs investing in these scams feel that they missed the bitcoin train, when they get that multiple thousands or hundreds of "put the name of the alt" in their wallets they get that warm fuzz thinking that they achieved something... they keep ignoring the fact that if they invest into bitcoin, even if it is just 0.01 BTC it will most likely turn out better in the long term.
when Bitcoin was around $10 I thought I missed the train , I didn't buy right away (worst decision ever) and who is starting today will think the same, and you will read more stories about regrets....

Billy may have dispersed so many coins into the market that btc is going to go lower from here no matter what. Actually - allowing limited withdrawals makes sense - they must fear a 'run' on BTC either crashing the exchange (with it's new software fix being untested, too) - or meaning they have so little liquidity that their business is finished.
Allowing 'some' withdrawals will mean people wish to hold BTC instead of Fiat, which will inflate the price on Gox, and at this point, some people might decide to stay.
If Gox is clever, it will still have a business left. Don't get me wrong - I will be the first in the queue to get out, but it is a logical solution.

It wasnt really "lucky". It was meant to be solved like this. First I thought It was my own fault, but when I looked at my trading history it didnt even show up. That got me triggered on contacting support.
At the time I put in a stop loss, like everyone does. It didnt work cause it was stuck at a price of $284 for several days, whilst BTC went up and down like crazy. I want even able to close my position manually.
When they didnt respond to my email with all the details, trading history, print screens... I've contacted the FCA(Financial Conduct Authority). I then send a email again to plus500 with this update. 10 hours later they have deposited the amount and send me an e-mail with an apology.

If i were you i would not go full BTC now, holding is fine if you dont want to deal with monitoring/stressing about the price, but if you have any fiat on the exchanges i would not buy right now, maybe convert 30% of fiat to coins, but not more.

Regarding Bitstamp issues - there hasn't been widespread confirmation that this is happening, and the news materialising on a Friday afternoon (GMT) just before a bank holiday from a freshly created reddit accounts adds to the suspicions. If Bitstamp had reasonable grounds for concern why would they allow the BTC transfer but not the fiat? It could just be an isolated case or some fabricated FUD. Although unlike the traditional FUD this would boost the BTC price.
Could boost price a bit, but it might just result in more so of an MTGOX situation, where Stamp price diverges from the rest of em. I am still pretty skeptical of this story..

I just tested this exchange and successfully transferred BTC to it. The transfer went through pretty quickly. The interface and trading features are not amazing, so they need to work a bit on that. Also there doesn't seem to be any traders yet. When the price goes up that will surely attract traders from Scandinavian countries.
The trick is that when it has a nice big user database... transfers still go through quickly and without any problems. Look at cryptsy.. in the beginning it was amazing, now it's just shit.
