I maintain my earlier point, however, if there are means to identify problems (such as manipulation, if it is taking place in ways that are outside of "acceptable" limits) and then to figure out the least intrusive ways to resolve such problems - sometimes that may mean that the best way is to establish some kind of an oversight body... that has teeth that will minimize and/or prevent the problems (if manipulation rises to such level to be deemed a problem).
Sure. Bitcoin community is slowly reinventing the wheel. Unregulated markets caused problems, that's why people invented regulations and regulated them.
Maybe we are saying, more or less, the same thing but using slightly different wording and emphasis?
Regulation is NOT some foreign outside force that comes in and ruins the party - frequently what happens with any kind of community intervention (if you want to call it regulation) is that a problem evolves and is identified. Sometimes problems are identified as similar to earlier problems and the same (or similar) rules, policies and/or practices can be used to address the new problems, and other times complete rethinking needs to take place in order to address the newly evolving circumstances - and sometimes, through this whole process, communities will come to realize that their previous rules and/or practices were all fucked up...
Surely, with bitcoin there is both new and old mixed in and there are a variety of mixed public policy incentives, including whether the government should consider bitcoin to be a friend or a foe.. and there can be both good and evil driving forces that are affecting the direction... regarding what actions should be taken, if any.
Surely, it is really cruel and evil if somebody like Mark Karpeles runs off with your coins (if that is what really happened), but it also could be cruel and evil if the US government was involved in manipulating and or stealing those GOX coins or having some kind of hand in what happened with GOX. It may take some time before we find out, that is if the full and true story ever comes out.
I wonder where would we be if not collapse of mtgox. $2000 ? or more ? Maybe some day we will know ...

Hmm i think in this case, it will be better if mtgox coins had been stolen today when the price should be $2000 or more. There are so many exchange sites and programs that stores Bitcoins which was not previously. So a lot of people had bitcoin in other sites or wallets. MtGox collapse will do not much harm as before.

I really believed in Bitcoin, and the fact that a non - government issued currency can survive, but now it is totally obvious that it can't. I hate to admit exactly now when I have some bitcoins and lots of BTC related projects, that Bitcoin is doomed to be gone forever.
There are more than 13.200.000 BTC already out in the market, yet a few thousands of them (like 1-2.000) can bring the price so drastically down. I am sure that US and other governments now are watching this amused because it is the end no doubt about it. It doesn't even matter if the price goes back to 500, 1000 or whatever. Once it is proved that it can be pushed down with less than 1.000.000 USD, bitcoin is worthless.
Try to manipulate USD exchange rate with investing 1.000.000 USD... the market won't even blink. But bitcoin is totally different, you can totally destroy it with this small amount of money.
First of all You need to understand Bitcoin is not a money is a way to send money. Bitcoin is not only market its technology. Its a way to send cheep money from one point to another and pay 0,5 cents. And this is what i love in bitcoin. And if You don't understand that You will be always be sad when price go down.

If and when the price goes past the amount they want to pay for the stock they will then take that fiat and reinvest it back into BTC as soon as they can. those are the signals i look for.
that should have already have happened except that the stupid willybot thing really messed up the cycle. so now we get to suffer a little longer.
and it is not for sure that btc will be the dominant player however it may be the dominant design which means that it might be doge or something else but not the "brand name" as we think.
i want to see some people on the dev side quit and move along, as well as some of the CJ conventions close shop, then gradual price increased couple with higher trading volume and transactional volume, then i will believe in the next move up.

Investors in the Series A round will include Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures, IDG Capital Partners and other existing investors, the person said. Ripple previously raised more than $3.5 million from a number of backers including Bitcoin Opportunity Fund, Camp One Ventures, Core Innovation Capital, FF Angel, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Vast Ventures and Venture51.
Ripple has created a decentralized payments network that helps validate transactions using a digital currency technology similar to bitcoin. The goal is to reduce the cost and time it takes to make cross-border payments in various currencies. The company is targeting use by banks and remittance providers, rather than consumers.
The company signed on two American banks, Cross River Bank and CBW Bank, last year, as well as Fidor Bankin Germany, to use the Ripple network to enable customers to instantly send money internationally. The network allows smaller banks to avoid the use of large intermediate banks that take fees on such transactions.
Ripple is tapping into the promise of the distributed verification systems that underlie digital currencies such as bitcoin and Ripple’s digital coin. These systems can help speed up and reduce the cost of financial transactions, as well as a variety of other transactions. Venture investors are increasingly talking about the value of this type of distributed ledger system as a basis for all kinds of applications, not just currency.
Though bitcoin itself has many potential uses, including as a system for improving the efficiency of payments and financial infrastructure, speculation has resulted in swings in its price. The volatility of that digital currency has kept some venture investors on the sidelines, even as others have plunged in.
The largest venture investment in a bitcoin company took place recently, when investors put $75 million into Coinbase Inc. Bitcoin-based startups have attracted roughly $439 million in venture capital in recent years, according to bitcoin-market tracker Coindesk.

People on Finex have several times reported now:
-randomly opening /closing of positions.
-having positions with 2x the max margin
-Unable to trade for hrs.

Was it China? It looks to me like the heavy volume during the dump was on the USD exchanges (well, stamp and finex) - on the CNY exchanges volume didn't seem to change during the dump.
It's probably just Christmas. I've been waiting for the price to climb as high as it can before about the 20th so I can sell and use any realized profit for presents. I expect small batches of sell offs between now and the 24th on USD exchanges will continue to happen as people find things they want to give as gifts.
