My guess, maybe by summer 2015? lol

2. Post 7996223 (copy this link) (by chopstick) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_13.00h):

The year is 2015. The month is August. Only but a mere 5 months ago, the world witnessed one of the greatest transfers of wealth the world has ever seen. The bitcoin price skyrocketed from 1k to over 100k per bitcoin over the course of 2 weeks. Many pot smoking hippies casually buying weed off the internet were made millionaires overnight. The Winklevoss ETF, as well as sudden bitcoin acceptance announced by large companies such as Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, Exxon-Mobile, BP, Walgreens, Best Buy, and many other companies has been seen as the primary cause of this price rise. Also, Russia has announced that they are making Bitcoin their official reserve currency, and all Russian rubles can be redeemed for bitcoins. The price has settled at around 250k per bitcoin, but rumors that Saudi Arabia is going to drop the dollar and do all oil trading in Bitcoins is threatening to cause even further price increases.

Thousands of people have been able to exit the corporate rat race thanks to their newfound wealth. Bitcoin based businesses are popping up everywhere and stocks of Western Union, Paypal, and Moneygram have dropped in price considerably. It currently costs a thousand dollars to buy a 20TH miner - enough to mine about .0001 bitcoin per day.

It is a glorious time to be a wealthy bitcoiner, but the looming threat of regulations by the USA government to what it sees as a threat to the US Dollar presents an uncertain future.

Ukraine is in the middle of a bloody civil war that was financed and enflamed by none other than America's CIA agency.

The last thing anyone in ukraine is worrying about would be bitcoin.

Dude, its bitcoin. There are whales and manipulators doing crazy shit all the time. The price will continue to fluctuate up and down.

Sub-400 coins are cheap, period. You should all be getting as many coins as you can during this period.

Eventually bitcoin will get big enough and the price will be much harder to manipulate by the greedy whales.

it will go down this week-end! Cheesy

Yes, most likely. Best case scenario is that it stagnates around $280 before continuing down again. There is still no positive momentum for consumer adoption, and too many scams and fraud that are keeping people far, far away.

Free advice for the bulltards: Admit defeat and sell your holdings. You will sleep much easier once you relieve yourself of the torture of riding a speculative bubble down, and you can at least take a lesson from this to invest in real, profit bearing assets in the future and not "get rich quick" magic beans.

How does it feel being a sheep?

From the RAND corporation virtual currency report:

"The report suggests that the U.S. Department of Defense should disrupt decentralized digital currencies to prevent “unprecedented global access to information and communication services that, at its core, is agnostic to the national security interests of the United States.”

Therefore, the RAND report suggests pre-emptive strikes and notes that “perhaps the best strategy for the United States and its allies to thwart a VC deployment would be to target those properties of a VC that would most increase its acceptance, most notably transaction anonymity, security, and availability.”

Classic is still on the table, should Core not deliver on promises...

We may very well end up in a position where miners are forced to fork off of core onto classic, if we end up with a massive transactions backlog - if the miners really care about the future of bitcoin at all, that is.

A VC-funded company that cares first and foremost about nothing more than making Profits for its Investors has taken over Bitcoin's development. That is positively not good.

Cross-post from r/bitcoin regarding the current situation:

Quote
The CEO of a VC-backed private corporation, and a handful of Chinese miners, just unilaterally decided the future of Bitcoin. And they have the gall to call it consensus.

This is bad, really bad.

Editing this comment to respond in one place to the army of throwaway accounts jumping down my throat:

What would consensus look like? In my view there are five main groups that would need to agree on changes to Bitcoin to achieve consensus: The developers (the code), the miners (the hashpower), the nodes (the network), the exchanges and payment processors (the economic majority), and of course the users (Bitcoin early adopters). The users don't really steer the ship, they just vote by deciding to use/hold Bitcoin, and they'll vote by buying alt-coins if they don't agree with the direction the other four take.

At this meeting there are only representatives of two of those groups; the code and the hashpower. Missing from the developers are extremely important people like Gavin Andresen (Bitcoin's chief scientist), and Jeff Garzik. Missing from the hashpower is the single biggest pool Antpool and other pools like Slush, who have decided a hard fork to 2 MB needs to happen urgently, not years from now.

Calling this tiny meeting consensus? Laughable.

As to VC-backed Blockstream taking control of the Bitcoin protocol, they have a fiduciary duty to create a return for their investors. Their business plan is to profit from protocols built on top of Bitcoin, protocols that benefit from a crippled Bitcoin layer usable only for settlement. All their actions so far show they have a laser-like focus on enabling features in Bitcoin that will benefit the Lightning Network, while restricting the throughput of the Bitcoin network as much as possible until their product is ready to sell.

This will backfire, the users and the economic majority will move to a network that functions correctly.

Larger block size means lower security and therefore lower price. So no, if you want the price to go down you should increase block size.

No. You are just lacking brain cells.

Solving the scaling debate with a simple blocksize increase would be bullish beyond belief. Price would skyrocket as people's faith in BTC and in Core slowly becomes restored.

Governments all over the world are trying to eliminate cash, they are confiscating gold, stealing wealth from the people. They want all your money in a bank account so it can be tracked or taken from you at any time.

The Central Bankers, in their endless greed profit from this system in many ways, endlessly concentrating the vast majority of the world's wealth in the hands of only a few dozen people. This is creating untold suffering and a system of economic slavery that is destroying the planet itself.

The fucking world needs this fucking technology to succeed, god damn it.

We better get our fucking shit together and make this shit fucking work. The scaling issue MUST be solved, one way or another. Core needs to get on board or they need to get kicked the FUCK out.

But what it's really about is breaking the yoke of oppression that has been forced on this world by those who have betrayed humanity itself for their own personal wealth.

Stop pretending that the present technology couldn't handle large blocks.

Perhaps the solution is to do both (blocksize increase and off-chain LN type deal)

But you can't just do one, or the other. Core has refused to compromise over and over, they refuse to raise the blocksize to even 2mb which pretty much everyone agrees could be very EASILY handled.

Core has shown they have no leadership skills, no vision and are motivated primarily to their own self-serving egos. They do not serve the greater whole. Furthermore, they engage in a deceptive campaign of censorship and other shady tactics to force their own side to "win", this has needlessly damaged the Bitcoin community itself by refusing to even allow certain discussions. The community has been effectively divided in this way. Can you even quantify the damage that has been done to all of us as a result of this?

I think any denial of a Bitcoin ETF would be nearly 100% politically-motivated.  It would mean that they (Governments? World Powers?) simply don't want Bitcoin recognized as a legitimate long term financial instrument.

Could this be more true now?

We're talking about a technology which could totally fuck FIAT currencies and all Central Banks in the ass, so I'm sure this could also be a factor.

US Gov does not want BTC recognized as a stable, dependable technology.

ETF would help it get that kind of legitimacy.

The problem is, Bitcoin doesn't need an ETF to become a globally decentralized peer 2 peer cash electronic payments system that can beat out the traditional financial industry.

We can achieve greatness without them. We already have.

I literally just dreamed this and woke up.

Ok, so the volatility was insane. So basically the price went from where it is now (900's) and it kept dropping over a period of time. I don't know what the hell happened, but at some point it dropped all the way to near zero (!!!!) single digits, of course this only lasted a COUPLE SECONDS and it shot all the way back up to 672. Now here's where it gets interesting. The price kept moving rapidly although I'm sure this all happened over the period of some years. After this MEGA drop, it shot into the MULTIPLE thousands, I distinctly saw the number 2272. And then all of a sudden apparently for no fucking reason it shot all into the 10K per coin range. I was sitting there fucking absolutely stunned. It bounced off 10K back into the 5K per coin range.

In my dream I saw a thread titled:  "5000. We are talking about the number 5000." on this forum, bitcointalk.  And I was just sitting there so absolutely fucking stunned because I seriously just watched the price go from 900 to almost 0 back up to 10k and then settle in the 5K range.

Man, that dream was fucking nuts.

I'm not sure, but maybe just dreamed future price movements some years (?) I'm assuming in advance.

If something like this actually happens I will reference this dream later.

If there had been a HF three years ago from 1MB to 2MB, we'd already be hitting the 2MB limit and BU supporters would be screaming that we need to immediately HF again to 4MB.  And so on, and so on.

They act like that wouldn't be true, but we all know it would.

So apparently for them, every time the block size limit is reached, the solution is simply another 2MB increase.  On and on, until mining centralization by like one person with a total hardware & hashpower monopoly is complete.

In reply to this argument.

Let's imagine we had hard forked to 2mb and the limit was reached.

The Bitcoin price would be between 2-3k PER COIN right now. The Market cap would be somewhere around 40 BILLION.

Ethererum, Dash and Monero would be WAY down, they definitely wouldn't be hitting their highs right now.

We'd have 2x the amount of transaction throughput which means there would be far less mempool backlogs, less network congestion and lower fees, which would overall create a MUCH better user experience.

In other words, it's a GOOD problem to have.

But you crybaby pussies, who apparently think 2017 tech can't handle >1mb, have forced the rise of altcoins, and have irreparably damaged Bitcoin's % of marketshare, and now markets are switching over to ethereum / dash / monero.

It's EFFING RIDICULOUS. These are UTTER FAILURES from a business perspective. It is also an utter failure from the perspective of User Experience. This is why one can only conclude that Bitcoin Core has failed completely in leadership, tactics, and effectiveness, they don't even seem to care about the user experience. All in the name of creating a "fee market" which is not yet needed, and won't be needed for a few more decades down the line.

BU at this point is the only thing that can really save bitcoin.

Fork it already! The time has come.

Oh by the way, I'd like to add.

BU hashrate is now at 43%.

8 mb hashrate is at 8%.

This means the big blocker side now effectively has 51% hashrate.

They won't fork until it's >75%,  but it's coming Smiley

My prediction, the price will drop dramatically during the fork and all the FUD and chaos and negative news stories. This will be a good buying opportunity.

But after the smoke clears, and BU / big blocks retain dominance, marketshare will flow back into Bitcoin from the shitcoins like a tidal wave and we'll see new all time highs with bitcoin. Finally, 10K+ per coin will become possible.

It's gonna happen.

It is idiotic to implement a solution, especially on that requires a hard fork, if it only solves your probably temporarily.  Horrible IT practices to keep patching code and no matter how large you make the block sizes, they will in time fill up or require prioritization by miners.

IMHO it means much more to optimize Bitcoin with Segwit, take advantage of that "larger block" size it allows with more transactions, and then allow for off chain solutions to blossom that require Segwit.  Bitcoin can remain the power settlement system that it will only ever be.  Nothing more.

Thinking bitcoin will someday be some millions of transactions per second system is far fetched dreaming so make it all it can be and as optimized as possible, not even more centralized, less secure, and temporarily patched.

You guys keep engaging in the same circular arguments, over and over, and over and over.

It's getting ridiculous. How many times do I have to say it. This stupidity is forcing the rise of altcoins and there's a very real chance Bitcoin could lose the #1 spot if something is not done.

Also, YOU GUYS are the ones who came in and suddenly decided that Bitcoin should only be a settlement layer, and not the peer2peer cash electronic payments system that it was designed to be by Satoshi.

If you want to deviate from Satoshi's original vision with this nonsense, then Core should go and create their own altcoin instead of attempting a hostile takeover, enforcing an artificial blocksize limit and then FORCING people onto THEIR off-chain solutions. This is ethically and morally wrong, and so is their campaign of censorship they have engaged in to justify this.

I'll post here one last time just to give you guys warning. This is going to happen, I pretty much saw it already in my dream.

First of all, there will definitely be a fork. If I'm wrong and there is no fork, Bitcoin will lose the vast majority of its marketshare to better crypto, at that point BTC will be left in the dust, permanently, and nothing on this forum will even matter anymore.

But most likely, there will be a fork. During the ensuing chaos, and mass sell-off wars between the two sides, Bitcoin is going to drop into the double digits... this will be a great opportunity to pick up artificially incredibly cheap coins. Probably the last opportunity, ever. And the price will almost certainly shoot back upwards immediately afterwards once people realize they're a bunch of idiots, and either core or BU emerge victorious.

After the fork is done, and BU emerges the victor by killing off the minority chain, all the marketshare that has flowed into altcoins over the last 2 years will flood back into BTC like a tidal wave as people regain confidence and trust in bitcoin. BTC will shoot up like a rocket ship into the multiple thousands. Of course, this would have happened already had Core not stifled growth with the 1mb artificial blocksize limit.

So if you buy in the double digits then it goes into the multiple thousands, well, I think it goes without saying it's a great opportunity...

I'm 99% sure this is going to be how it plays out, I saw it in my dream, they do tend to come true - most of the time.

Make sure you get yourselves into position. This will be my last post here for a while, I am going to sit back and wait for events to develop. Adios.

And what exactly makes you think that the Japanese  plan for long-term holding and these are not just more speculative bubbles? When a drop happens they will dump like everyone else.

The large trader Japs want more yen, they don't care about Bitcoin. Bitcoin gains its long-term value from it's usability as a currency, and it's still restricted as of today in its ability to do this.

Bitcoin does NOT gain long-term value from millionaires & billionaires playing with their play money trying to increase their FIAT currency holdings on the speculative exchanges.

I know you guys want this price rise to last but look at things objectively. The scaling debate still hasn't been resolved.

Wait until after the scaling issue is over-with to go PERMABULL on steroids.

Until the scaling debate is resolved, Bitcoin's market share dominance will continue to drop. It's already below 60%. Pretty soon it will be below 50%. And it will be a historic moment for crypto when this happens.

That being said once Bitcoin can finally scale, I wager a price increase up to 2K+, followed by 3K, etc etc, and BTC's marketshare dominance will shoot back up to 90+%, with all the altcoins dropping like rocks.

Once the scaling debate is done and the war is settled. THEN it's time for bulls on parade:

What sort of idiot is in bitcoin to spend them in b/s?
It's just you.

Yeah, because the thousands of people who have disconnected themselves from the banks and from FIAT don't exist.

Legacy Bitcoin has been taken over by corporate interests that want to prevent BTC from scaling, thus removing competition and ensuring their monopolies will continue uncontested. No one is going to want to pay $20, 30, 40, 50$+ fees to make a payment or just to move coins. Thus, Legacy Bitcoin has truly become a Banking Settlement Layer - with fees comparable to a bank wire, and confirmation times comparable to a bank wire. This is Bitcoin now. Enjoy it. Well would you look at that, Bitcoin is dropping while Alts are once again skyrocketing in value.

If Bitcoin can't scale and can't be used for everyday transactions, then this also diminishes its usefulness as a store of value. Bitcoin becomes primarily an instrument for rich speculators, and little else. Other coins will be used for actual commerce and day to day transactions.

Are you all happy now?

As someone who bought their first Bitcoin in 2012 for $20,

Indeed, I can't help but laugh at all the thousands of newcomers who just read r/bitcoin and suddenly think they are scaling experts. That Bitcoin should be able to run a node on every Raspberry Pi in Afghanistan. Yada yada yada. This is psychologically manipulated groupthink. Let's face it - many of the people getting into Bitcoin today are "newbies" who weren't very smart or educated in the first place. But they all like to act like they are, ESPECIALLY when it comes to their opinions on the Blocksize debate - an opinion that was only formed through reddit. Oh boy do they love repeating those opinions, and screaming down anyone who disagrees, like a bunch of drunken fratboys who think they are about to lose their virginity. Only a very small minority are capable of using logic or reason.

It's both amusing and kind of sickening to watch happen.

Anyway, now that the dust has settled and the "1mb forever" crowd has won, Legacy Bitcoin will likely never scale in any meaningful kind of way - Meaning Legacy BTC will never be anything more than a speculator's toy to get rich, a gateway to altcoins and FIAT and a settlement layer.

However, I still fully expect the combined speculator and institutional investor money to take Legacy Bitcoin to 50 - 100K and beyond. However, it will become impossible to move coin at some point on the main chain , with $100+ fees, making a very large percentage of BTC wallets unspendable. At that point, the vast majority of Crypto users and commerce will have already moved to either Bitcoin Cash, Monero or Ethereum. In the long long run, 5+ years, I fully expect either Bitcoin Cash, Monero or Ethereum to become the #1 coin with the highest market cap. It's inevitable now that Bitcoin will never scale - and let's be honest, Lightning Network will either never exist or will never deliver as promised --- which means BTC is going to be stuck where it is now from the scaling perspective, with only a few band-aids thrown on top, likely forever -- unless the miners finally grow a pair, say enough is enough and stand up to the bought out Corporate shills at Blockstream, but I'm not holding out hope for that outcome at all.

But your keeping at it now after years and a number of failed attempts at psyops for hostile takeovers is just pathetic. The same would be if you were an honest fool full of butthurt.

I'm just telling the truth, the only hostile takeover attempt was Blockstream and it was a success, indeed a major success for the Banking cartels. In the end it only took $75 million, a few useful idiot developers and a troll/shill army to, more or less, take over BTC's development and subvert it away from its original vision , removing it as a threat (for now.) You speak of decentralization and yet BTC is now more centralized than ever - No changes can be made to the Bitcoin protocol without the approval of Adam Back,  Gregory Maxwell and Luke Jr, 3 people who have shown themselves to be not only incompetent but also highly manipulative and who lie constantly. This is not a good situation and BTC will not improve at the protocol level until it moves away from these incredibly toxic individuals. That does not necessarily mean it will not continue to go up in value - but that will be only because of speculators, not fundamentals.

The problem is you think I'm a shill when in reality I'm just a minority voice telling what should be a very obvious truth. But Blockstream has distorted everything so much with the lies and the censorship, it's almost impossible to get through to anyone.

Don't you think you are stressing the scaling debate a little too much?

Biggest blocks could be a solution, but segwit should work too, and if properly developed I think is a much more elegant solution than biggest blocks.

Altcash seems to me even more centralized than core, but what I really think is that there are no evil bankster behind any side, just some pression groups who want to achieve their interest. Zero trust environment, as usual, with powerful personalities both sides, but no evil jew banksters.

I'm glad you buyed @20 usd, I buyed a year later @1000, mined at loss and I have made little profits, but I don't think your "i'm rich in bitcoin" argument is valid when it comes to scaling debate.

I think that everyone should possibly be able to run a full node on a raspberry in afghanistan, this is very important, why you think that 8x tx/s are more important than this? And what happens when 8mb block are full? Don't you think we are going to buy our coffee with 8 mb blocks right?

I'm not rich at all, but my point is that many thousands are getting into bitcoin just recently because of it's increase in popularity, they read censored forums which are intentionally manipulated and then they are engaging in obvious groupthink psychological manipulation - This is a pretty obvious tactic that has been often used by various intelligence agencies of the world. People who got into BTC earlier, IE 2011-2012 generally aren't as likely to fall for Blockstream's manipulation, censorship and misinformation tactics. And those are the ones who are now being ostracized from the community. This points to a complete rewrite of the original BTC community, it's intentions, its code, its purpose, and its future. Satoshi's Bitcoin is dead. Now it's BlockstreamCoin - A Bitcoin NOT meant to compete with FIAT, or meant to compete with banks, but rather a settlement layer for the Rich and a speculator toy to play around with on exchanges. That's Blockstream's vision. Forget about the masses. Blockstream firmly believes that FIAT is superior to Crypto (after all that's what they get paid in) --- and Bitcoin should just be a settlement layer primarily used by the already-Rich and Speculators. Christ, I can't believe it even has to be argued - it's so obvious that Blockstream are the corporate takeover of Bitcoin that it makes my eyes bleed.

BTC is going to the moon long term. Don't worry about the relatively minor short term price fluctations. Just get as many as you can and don't cash any out until at least 10K, even if it takes a year. No one here has patience it seems. It will happen.

You seemed very reasonable and forward looking back then. What happened to you in the meanwhile if I may ask?
Only one thing from my side: why do you keep on talking about +100$ fees? Why do you still keep on thinking them in USD? I think you don't need to look at them in USD but in satoshis: that changes the perspective on the matter.

As for the rest, I mean, peace man. Have some Carolina with us  Wink

What happened was the bloody blocksize debate turned me half-crazy.

You're probably right, I need to sit back and have a beer. Since I am one of those speculators, I'm still benefiting from the rise of Bitcoin. I just wanted to see BTC to change the world. Maybe it still can. But for everyday commerce and transactions, it will have to be another coin. Either way, Crypto is changing the world and will continue to do so.
