God.....
Are you there.....?
Its me God....
All I ask is for the Bitcoin to go to 400..........
I don't think that is too much to ask for.
Heck, I would be ok if it was just two bots manipulating the price.
I bought 80 BTC at 500$.
I refuse to sell until it hits 350-400$
So does that mean unintentionally I am going to be a permabull with bearish intentions.
Come on lucky dice.
I need you now

@ Steven Irving

The link to the explanation is broken. Chart buddy shows a 3D view of market depth at bitstamp over the past hour. It's just a series of lines drawn minute by minute showing the order book changing over time.

Thank you for explaining that

I really doubt Stamp has to resort to market buys to get that BTC. They probably can buy it in bulk from one of their partners. 19K is a lot, but not a crazy amount either.
I really wonder why you would put 19k in a hot wallet. Even when you have to transfer them to clients.
19k live ammo is a bit high.
I would have kept much better safety with those coins.
Yeah, agreed - no idea why they kept 19K in a hot wallet.
This is good stuff:
Quote from: fairglu on January 05, 2015, 08:51:50 PM
What follows is a Bitstamp Hot Wallet from taint analysis

This is guesstimated, from blockchain analysis only, so take it with a shovel of salt and a critical eye.
It's at best an under-estimation, as the taint will naturally not affect all change addresses and other things, though from experience on altcoins, it's not usually complete bollocks either Wink

Hot Wallet guesstimated Balance
day                  received         spent         balance
01/01/2015      1,657.5         934.9         1,842.3
02/01/2015      2,778.2        2,553.8       2,066.7
03/01/2015      9,592.7        9,033.8       2,625.7
04/01/2015     18,614.2     21,122.9        117.1
05/01/2015      1,223.1     1,338.7         1.5

So apparently something happened on the 4th, either big external deposit(s) followed by larger withdrawal(s), or something that triggered a refill from a cold storage.

The hot wallet was then promptly cleared, with the high fee transactions that have been reported, though it's anyone's guess at this point if it was Bitstamp clearing it in panic mode, or a thief.

And below is recent guesstimated hot wallet history, the big bumps are (AFAICT) deposits from the large cold storage they created during their audit, so they're very likely artifacts more than real deposits. Those deposits were eventually compensated by withdrawals to likely cold storage addresses.

It shows Bitstamp aimed to keep between 500 and 2000 BTC in their hot wallet, so the hack occurring just after or during a "bump" to 20k BTC is suspicious.

I know that my advice might not be appreciated, but I think you need to reconsider your position.
If you are feeling stressed, then it's likely that you are over-invested in this little experiment we are participating in.
If you have more money "invested" in bitcoin than you could comfortably afford to lose, then you're doing it wrong.
Just my opinion.
You do realize these are just strawman accounts set up by trolls to present a ridiculous situation for other trolls (themselves most likely) to attack?

Apologies, I thought Steven was a real person.
My bad.
*edit* am I the only one that finds the excessive bear trolling to be bullish?
My traps are set from 300 down to 250 (CAD)
You bears are welcome to unload your beanie babies at my prices.
I am a purmabull.
What are you talking about?
I have been hodling for years now.
I know I am not the only person who has lost money outside of bitcoin and all of sudden anything I own worth value is more important. I had assumed with my coins I would hodl them for 10 more years. Unfortunately that is not possible in my current situation.
I am waiting for 350-400 then I am selling off all of my coins. After I deal with a few personal issues I will reinvest. I believe in bitcoin.
When I made the initial investment I paid ~14$ for 100 coins. About a year ago I picked up 10k worth after meeting someone here. My first post on this account was to find someone who could broker that for me a year ago. In the last week I was able to put 10k in. That is all money which I care about. I don't see this as a gamble. I have been watching the bitcoin since it was 2$. I believe in it. I don't care what anyone else has to say really. Id bet my life on it.

I certainly don't value anything 99% of this forum has to say as the majority of people I see here are trolls, or people posting the opposite of what they believe and flat out lying to drive the price one way or another. Everyone, at least in the speculation section, has their own bullshit agenda which they attempt to push here.

Personally, I believe this link explains all of the trolls on these forums:
http://21stcenturywire.com/2014/02/25/snowden-training-guide-for-gchq-nsa-agents-infiltrating-and-disrupting-alternative-media-online/
This is a common practice and bitcointalk is the perfect target.

The only reason I post here or even watch is because it is hard to stare at a computer screen for so long doing nothing. This is more a cheap source of ridiculous entertainment along with a place to watch the people who are afraid of the future so they try and slander the coin.

I think we will go to ~$300 and then crash to $250.
Or we will hit $292.83 then crash to $247.68, but then we will bounce to $305.43

Spoken like a true poker player on tilt   Wink
Have you seen me on seals or getlucky?

My best game is heads up NL.
Earlier today I won 11 BTC heads up to pay off some debt I owed.

Honestly with the price the way it is I am really debating playing 75 of my BTC.
The idea would be to raise that to 100 BTC. It would make me completely fine with the drop and cashing out those coins as that would be the same as if the price was $325 right now.
Downside of coarse if I loose it is a lot of money.
I am trying to evaluate right now if it is worth it or not.

In other words. The risk of keeping my money in btc and it going down more then it not rebounding to at least 300$.
Or the risk of playing a heads up NL match to increase my BTC to it as the same amount of money as if the coin was at 300$

At least with the second option I have control over what happens.

Tough decision.

Edit: SamedamnBTC, ___ActioNNN is that you?

Steven: No.

You have a point, with control over the situation, but it is a dangerouse game! Poker is too much psykologi for my liking, and you have rich morons who dont value money.. Makes not fun, at least what I think. Playing tight is not fun.
Are you kidding that is the best. I love rich morons. Give me more sir.
When playing heads up it is all about your aggression factor.
In heads up I am very aggressive which is why I win.
In a high stakes cash game stealing the blinds goes a long way and it is easy to do if you know how to be aggressive.

Its funny you said this:
"This Q/2 off suit will make me win. Come one vs Pocket AA"
Because today when I was in that big heads up game, earlier on during a very wet board I called his nice sized bets to the river with nothing but Queen high and took it down.
If I am correct he was representing aces.
I had his number down. Put him on tilt super bad.

And Inca. Poker is a skill game.

To everyone else yes there is variance in poker. But above all else poker is a mind game.
This quote no longer holds true as you have 7000 players in the wsop main event every year, but until 2003 this proved my point:

"Mike McDermott: Why do you think the same five guys make it to the final table of the World Series of Poker EVERY YEAR? What, are they the luckiest guys in Las Vegas?"

Keep your head cool and decide if you want to ride it out or if you want to bail out and buy in again later. It has gone past $1000 before. There is still money to be made. Bitcoin won't die.
I am going to ride it out no matter what. I cannot afford to bail out here.
Now of coarse again, I don't believe bitcoin is able to die.
So these horridly depressing ideas don't even need to be there.

I think about my close whale friend. If BTC went under he would be in a worse position then myself. He singlehandedly convinced not only his company, but his whole family to go in a major way.

I am hopeful.

Ulbricht’s lead attorney, Joshua Dratel, said that Karpeles was the man pulling the strings behind Silk Road from 2011 until 2013, and that his associate Ashley Barr, a Canadian computer scientist, became the famously libertarian voice of Dread Pirate Roberts.
“Lots of little things added up to [Karpeles],” Der-Yeghiayan testified.
In a meeting with other Homeland Security agents, Der-Yeghiayan recalled saying that “we have built up quite a large amount of information that leads to this.”
Der-Yeghiayan, however, was convinced that the investigation still had further to go before making an arrest and taking Karpeles to court. He advised other law enforcement agents against speaking to Karpeles about Silk Road, so as to not tip him off.
At the time, there were investigations into several potential crimes that Karpeles had committed.
Instead, other Homeland Security investigations into Karpeles, for separate and related crimes, led investigators to seize $2 million from Karpeles in May 2013, thus tipping Karpeles off that he was on the radar of the United States government.
Although he was “upset” about the premature law enforcement contact, Der-Yeghiayan said he continued his investigation into Karpeles.
“You believed him to be the mastermind behind Silk Road, keeping it secure and operating?” Ulbricht defense attorney Dratel asked Der-Yeghiayan.
“I did,” Der-Yeghiayan testified.
As the argument was unveiled, Ulbricht let out a rare beaming smile and turned to his parents. They nodded at one another, marking the most electric moment in the trial so far.
Der-Yeghiayan testified that his own investigation had found that Mutum Sigilum, a Karpeles holding company, had registered silkroadmarket.org as a means to publicize the site further.
The Homeland Security agent’s theory was that Karpeles, as owner of Mt. Gox, held an enormous amount of Bitcoin. He used Silk Road to leverage that price and raise it, which it did by several hundred times over during the course of Silk Road’s lifespan. Bitcoin was worth around $2 at Silk Road's launch and hit as high as $290 by 2013.
In the summer of 2013, a separate Baltimore-based Homeland Security investigation into Karpeles went to meet with the Karpeles's lawyers, explicitly against Der-Yeghiayan’s wishes. At this meeting, Karpeles’s lawyers brought up Silk Road and said that Karpeles was willing to give up the person he thought to be running Silk Road in order to gain immunity from other charges pending against him.
Der-Yeghiayan said he was “upset” about the contact and says he wrote a lengthy memo about the problems in the investigation.
Dratel says that it was only after this happened that Ulbricht was lured back into Silk Road, an entity he allegedly left behind two years prior, in order to be the “fall guy” who would ultimately take the charges that could leave him in prison for life.

HOLY FUCK

That is all

Of coarse it is. This is the kind of thing that will be all over the news. The more bitcoin is spoken about the higher its value goes to.

No difference. I see it dropping as low in the worst case as ~190.
At that point I will kick myself for not having money for cheap coins.

Then I see a push to ~237+ by our friends in china.
Some news will drop and there will be a nice run all the way to 275$.
Which is where I will do some selling.
Then it will crash again while everyone sells that news

Question for the well educated folk?
How much would it take one investor to put into bitcoin to single handedly raise the price ?

You don't need a license.
Just be sure to inform about tax rules.

I'm doing this too since 2013, and from 2015 on this is my only profession. Here in the Netherlands the tax climate is quite good for having an income from investing/saving (I pay close to no tax). Not sure about your state.

It depends on how long you held the position the % rate was on the 7btc loan. $160 seems very high. Contact support and they should be able to take care of it for you.

If you rely on the feedback of the Bitcoin community on reddit you can't use any Bitcoin service. Read the User Agreement and Terms of the services you're planning to use and if that's okay for you: sign up and verify your account.
All sites have clauses to shut down any account and seize anything for any reason. So that really is of no help.
I would rather speak to traders who have been using a platform for a good amount of time for references.

It's good to know specific rules. Coinbase will cancel your account if you're sending BTC to LocalBitcoins, etc.

I'm not using the Coinbase exchange, because it's not yet available in my country, but I have been using Coinbase for 3 years and it always worked smooth for me.

I do see that if they SUSPECT that you are using coinbase to buy/sell in a high volume outside of personal use ( kinda like a business ) they will limit your account, which is fair for they went and jump though hoops to get where they are at right now, plus it also limits the liability that they might have due to the idiots that want to do illegal activities with bitcoin.
Except from what I understand Coinbase takes their duties to a whole other level.
People get money seized and their accounts taken from suspicion of fraud all the time.
The reason for this seems to be Coinbase wanting to show the US Gov that it can enforce and closely monitor everything.
From what I have read Coinbase makes it very hard for a person to trade by himself in any significant amount

I am going to get a bitstamp account going.
Then a BTC-e if I can figure out how to use that site.

Some large dumps occurred on bitfinex but they were absorbed by the market. Very solid support - much of which may chase the price in the event of an increase.

Shorts keep going down every single day. (Lender BTC interest rates are dropping hard as well): http://bfxdata.com/swaphistory/btc.php

Seems like traders feel that bitcoins are under-priced and are therefore accumulating every bitcoin thrown at them. Demand seems to be exceeding current supplies, therefore a price increase seems likely in order to entice some people to sell their bitcoins.

Anyone who isn't bullish right now is crazy.
I am just praying to hit ~238 on Finex so I can get in really good before the shot to 250. There has been so much trouble breaking through that I believe when we do we will be launched to 260.

Seconded.

Im shorting here. I think we will drop to 233 before we make our claim back into the 240s

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still under $240 I see, and going sideways.

Could we just have a nice price rise to chase the socktrolls back under the rock from which they they crawled?

Every penny counts.  I have 30 btc on the short. So 4$ is 120$ profit.
Loving that margin from BFX

Wish okcoin would allow US members. 20 to 1 would make me a wealthy man or broke in a minute

Actually it does.

Just send coins there and you can trade them for USD and play futures with 10X and 20X leverage. Not that you wanna do that, but... you can.

You only have to tell them your ID number or something when you sign up. No ID scans or anything else. Other than that it's pretty fast and straightforward.

My advice is to avoid OKCOin leverage unless you really know what you are doing. 3X leverage on bitfinex is more than enough.
Are you sure?
Its says this on my account:
"To comply with legislation, users in the US may not pass level 2 verification."
So they don't really have any of my information...
Trading all of my money would be scary. What if my account gets frozen for verification?
Then I couldn't do it and would be out.
Are you a US trader on okcoin?

That just means that you have lower deposit and withdrawal limits, but if you're only moving BTC in and out it's probably enough for most people here: 1000 BTC per day for level 1.

Ill play with the site. If this works I will be very happy.

Right now I don't have funds there, and I'm not from the US, but Level 2 verification is only if you need to withdraw USD. To move funds in and out of OKCoin using BTC you only need level 1 verification, which is just telling them your ID number. With level 1 verification you can trade all you want.

It's like bitfinex, to trade you only need to open an account, no verification required.

Awesome.

Nothing could possibly go wrong, or. My guess is, this stack of 8k is going to diminish at a steady pace or in one fell swoop if he starts messing w/ leverage. Best of luck tho. Undecided
This is embarrassing, but not more then a week ago I lost 5000$ on Betcoin playing roulette. Was really wasted.

I have been buying and selling bitcoin for 4 years now. Never with any real thought. Just in that I believed it would always go up.
During this whole time I have spent a good part of every day learning everything about trading bitcoin, but never taking the plunge into real trading.
Got into trading with leverage a few months ago and have been doing ok profiting nicely.
Though the moronic 5k gambling loss erased my profit.

Live and learn. I get one of those in my life

You've been at it since 2011? Did you hold some from back then or sell on the way up? Most people expect those who were around then to be rolling in it by now but life is rarely that straightforward.
Not sure the exact dates I got in bitcoin.
Some of what I say below may be mixed up in time.
I bought in at ~3-4$ and sold at ~30$ which was a big deal back then. That was the first huge raise in price like that. Then I bought in again around 7$ and sold at ~14$. Bought in again at 10$ and left to take care of some personal things for a while.
Not sure if this was before the ATH or after because my memory is not the best. Sold at ~200 something. Then it crashed to 40$. I bought back at 50$ and held. Sold that at ~300$.
With the ATH I had been holding a ton of coin and sold at like 900 something after missing the peak and watching it dropping.

I trusted a few people with money and lost out. I took my profits and made some large investments which bled money. I put a majority of my profits into a venture purchasing gift cards from a supplier. Turned out the supplier was fraudulent which caused me to loose 99% of my money and have to sell off my investments to make back a few bucks.
Lost from tens of thousands in gift cards that all had the balances drained at once. Lost from this happening right after I had sent the person a large sum and the supplier did a runner. Lost from the sites I sold the cards on charging me for all the gift cards I had sold in the prior months because they were canceled.

Always moving forward. I seem to have developed a very self destructive pattern since being thrown into a depression after that all happened.
Which I thought I had fixed, but the 5000$ roulette loss is proof the issues still linger.

When the coin shoots back up and I am wealthy once again I will be much smarter with everything.
The fact I am profiting now playing with leverage proves something

Less than 11 hours until Nasdaq Stockholm opens it doors for bitcoin trading. Am I the only person excited about that?  Smiley

EDIT: The exchanges are certainly not showing any signs of excitement...

Maybe tomorrow will be exactly the same as today and the price will stay flat with incredibly low volume. If Nasdaq Stockholm fails to ignite any interest things could continue stagnating for a long time. A few weeks ago everyone was asking if it would go up or down. We all got it wrong, the answer was neither.
I think there is a good number of people waiting for it. If nothing happens we will see some negative movement from people who were waiting to hear the news.
Don't see a way that it will not raise the price some.

Either way something is going down  Cool

I remember buying in at $2. Forgetting about the 1k investment while I dealt with an emergency in my family, then checking the price and seeing $30 and selling. It was just fun and games until that point. Then I was hooked for life. For better or worse I wouldn't be the man I am today if Bitcoin never came to be.

Every central bank in every country in the world has said the same thing. The difference with China is that they actually do something about these things.

If the FED's issuing warnings about Bitcoin it doesn't stimulate much faith in an ETF approval. On the other hand they must be aware that an approval's going to pump the price. Maybe the FED's covering itself by issuing a warning before an ETF approval, then it can't get the blame from those who buy at the very top, just before a dump.
I would think before the ETF is approved this move would be more so to warn people of the dangers as its about to be that much larger.

At least thats what I am going to tell myself so I can sleep at night

Surely this goofball is a troll.

But just to continue with the non gambling theme... yep... and incremental is good, too... rather than jumping in all at one price.

So if you are just beginning and you are a bit bullish (and you have a stash that you want to invest, but you are afraid that it is just going up from here), then you might consider reasonably investing anywhere between 30% and 70% at this price point, and then seeing what happens, but to have some money in reserve in case the price goes in the opposite direction than you expect.

My account is from 2013. I have been investing in bitcoin since 2010.

Completely agree, this is people panicking that etf isn't going to be approved after a run where people were speculating it was... I can't wait for tomorrow and Friday. if it starts to tank it might just implode several hundred dollars all at once.
I would say this is more caused by China keeping withdrawals off in the exchanges. Doesn't that seem like the heavier influence specifically for today of all days when they were to return?

Having better luck than me it seems. My iPhone did that thing where it moved the buttons under my finger because the keyboard was going away or whatever, and anyway, dumped my whole trade balance @1178. I've tried to explain, they won't listen Wink
Today is the last day though. This live stream goes until the end of business for them right?

the final date is the 11th (that is tomorrow) so they will probably announce on Monday (next working day from the 11th)
If they don't announce though doesn't it auto approve. SEC said 11th last I checked. They are not going to announce on the weekend when not working. Today is the day is the day

I wonder how much all this has cost the Winklevii.

Maybe there is a lesson here. Why go asking for permission when you already have an asset which doesn't require it? This ETF never made sense to me from the start. The only argument I've ever seen for it is so people can put their 401k in "Bitcoin".
They had tons in bitcoin when it was cheap. Remember when this ETF was announced?
They made enough on bitcoin where this doesn't matter.

Steve, sort it out.

If you believe in the tech then you can be confident to just hold and wait it out.

If you don't and you really did put your lifesavings into it knowing that a crash would make you tempted to sell then........

Good your marriage is back on track.

I'm glad that my wife is now cool with me risking a lot of money on bitcoin - I had to prepare her psychologically first as she is not a risk taker - but happy to see the rewards coming in and understanding that the pot I have built could collapse.
I think my best move is to sit down with her and decide as someone else suggested what we want to have no matter what saved. Then the rest can be invested in bitcoin so even at the worst we don't go straight to the poor house. This was a long time coming I suppose.

Thank Satoshi this situation was salvaged

All sounds a bit fishy stevo. Not sure I believe you
My account is from 2013. I have had tough times here and there from the natural flow of life, but I started storing coin in 2010. In the past couple years I have been buying in and out a hand full of times. With a small few month period of daily trading again.

My house was paid for recently.
I started holding again around here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1209988.msg12806485#msg12806485

Made a good bit going back and forth between altcoins and bitcoin since then.

I cashed out most of my holdings to purchase that house. Liquidated what I had and have since gone back and forth in portions.
It was only with the ETF looming that I took our combined savings and let it ride.

At the end of the day, even as someone who has successfully shorted bitcoin on many occasions. I am and will always be a permabull.
Bitcoin is the future. To me that is inevitable. Therefore in any situation the price will rise beyond where we are at now.

Even if I make a real mistake with a lot of money in bitcoin, I will stand strong and sit until it eventually returns back. As I have before and am still willing to bet it all on what I believe in. Not to say every time I make a large move I am able to keep calm. I always freak out lol

Though no more taking the combined savings. That was a clear mistake. You would think by now my wife believes like I do, but she doesn't see the longevity somehow. (Trust me I have tried)

nobody should buy anything with their entire anything when it's this volatile.
Times like this are how I have made a majority of my money in bitcoin.
Not to say I would advise others to do it, but my belief is strong and in a worst case I will hold until it eventually returns to the price I bought at as I believe in bitcoin.

There's nothing wrong with taking profit. Just why do it in fiat? Keeping your profits in Bitcoin makes more sense.

Sure, by all means live a little,  buy yourself a treat or toy or something, but keep the bulk pf your profits where they'll continue to earn money.

We are your Corporate Overlords. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but is Bitcoin over?
Is the answer to your question blow me? I say that lovingly of course

This is one hard decision point. When do I put down the last of my coin investment fiat that I have waiting. This seems like such an easy moment to profit. It is obscene. Anyone who has been here since the start knows this as well. What moron really believes the coin is worth long term this price or less? I call this guaranteed earnings on ever dollar of coin I buy. Though I am greedy and want to wait for the best moment to go all in  Huh

I have started to calm down. Took a position at $4260 and feel good about that. No doubt price could fall lower, but my feel is that even if it does it will not be significant. At the very least the rebound time should not be as long as some people were dreading imo. Feels good getting some bargain sale coins. A lot of weakness in the market has been shaken out which is invigorating.

"the time to buy is when there's blood in the streets."
How are so many people unaware of this? Boggles the mind!

We have seen worse drops then this by far and we will see even worse drops in the future. Rinse and repeat. Nothing has changed other then the stakes being higher. Next time they will be even greater then this...

Been here long enough to know that corrections do happen and not always when you expect or can even see them coming. Sometimes right when you expect.

I have also been here long enough to know correction or not, the price will increase because at te end of the day bitcoin still is super undervalued and will be for a long time.

Im a perma-bull but something else great and can be super hard to learn is do not use bitcoin as a gambling device.
We need as many new people as often as we can get for sure but a lot of the horror stories should never happen.

Now like always is the time to buy but do your fuckin research people!
Look at the history of btc and how long down and up periods happened for before you start choosing the size of your investment.

Do not forget the ignore feature people. It is vital especially in this thread. We need to get back to the days of people sharing ignore lists lol.

The fact that we are at 10500 still with all of the bs proves to me that we have nowhere to go but up.

How short sighted do you have to be to be upset that we are now right under 10000. Hearing all the greedy dicks complain about this every single time we are in a similar place never ceases to annoy.

This is only temporary. Bitcoin will raise past the ath again and again. Be patient

Just woke up. Cant believe there is such an amazng time to invest again... he said crying into his cereal.

To anyone panicking remember all u gotta do is sit tight. Hodl and wait. Unless the human race is about to go extinct this will pass as it always does and bitcoin will rebound.
Like always use this time to accrue more hodlings.

This is really shitty. There should be some consolation prize at least, like if most of the alts died right here and for good.
The prize is getting a chance to buy coins at 4k again. What more of a prize do u want
