I must admit, i was expecting a more interesting reaction to a first major US merchant accepting BTC is it that the market doesn't care, or that 51% FUD and looming jan 31 china news offset the market by that much?

I also expected more... but maybe the reaction was already done when overstock announced they will accept btcs. And for now they only accept btc from us citizens and they use bitpay.

Lets see what happens next, actually it looks like correction is over. I am back in after I went short at 900$  Smiley

The only logical explanation is that someone knows that Gox dont have any coins and wont ever fix withdrawals, so goxcoin is essentially worth 0$

But look at the market. Everyone WANTS coins to go up but Willy won't let them. Assuming you were really cashing out because Gox has no coins, wouldn't you just, y'know, let the price rise from time to time to get more cash? I'm starting to believe Willy sells into (mostly) its own walls to give the impression of massive dump and keep the price suppressed for much profit (?).

The only other plausible explanation I can think of is Gox or some accomplice(s) shorting naked. But then again, wouldn't you let the price bounce back from time to time?

my analyzation of the gox order book comes to the same conclusion, it looks like he is selling mainly into his own walls.
i havent understand why he is doing it yet.

is it a kind of controlled selling strategy? or is he manipulating the price for any reason?

the order books total comulated asks down to 5$ on gox are around 71000 coins, each ask in $ multiplicated with its volume and summed over all asks is a total of around 7mio usd. (excluded 0-5$ asks)
so there is at least 7mio usd on gox accounts willing to buy btcs. this doesnt really change over the last hour it varies between 6.7 and 7.2mio usd. so actually nothing really happens at gox.

Honestly the orderbook still looks like ----. There was over 15,000BTC in bids 300+ yesterday. That formed less than 24hrs after the 5k dump that brought it to $300 in the first place.

Today, at a low of $220.. only 5k in bids have popped up.. and its nearly 24 hours since the low... and the low is 30% lower. Terrrrrrible!

well when i went to bed it was 240$ and now we have 3000 btc asks til 240$. wasnt even sure if gox stil exists when i wake up again ^^

how about 350 or less? does this seems convenient to you ?  my prediction is in the next few months the price will drop to as low as $300

bitstamp volume is so low i dont expect a fall lower 550 yet.

for next month i am bullish, we have to survive gox then it should go up again.

but do you think its a trap or its really going up from now?

There's a definite possibility of a trap, but I'm not sure. That's why I'm in a 50% position.

Things for a reversal:
-We have broken the 1 month downtrend (on a linear chart).
-MACD is up.
-There are impressive walls on bitstamp.
-The length in time of the bear market is consistent with previous ones in 2012 and 2013.

Things against a reversal:
-The stoch RSI is/was too high.
-Low volume.
-We are not trending on the log support trendline but significantly above it still.
-The 610-660 area is cluttered with resistances on the 3 day and 1 week chart and there is no room for a significant upsurge here.
-If you look on a look at a logarithmic chart, we have actually not yet broken the 1 month downtrend.

i think the 3k wall is no fake but i think the same person has a sell wall at 600$, too.
And thats also what i think to happen, we will stay at 590-600 for a while. now its important how many people have shorts running and stop them, then we could break the 600.
stil there is much resistance on the way up so i expect a slow uptrend.

/edit: amazing would be if he really has some ask walls and remove them as soon as the price goes up.

Gox api broadcasts 20k transaction today.Investigation links it to the 200k moving today.Splitting looks to follow a line in the leaked PHP code.

200kBTC has been transferred from suspected gox controlled addresses to new addresses, and then part of those funds has been transferred again and again, being broken into small pieces in a manner consistent with the MTGox software and operations for their online wallet. Some transactions spending coins involved in this are showing up in the MTGox api.
I would speculate they are preparing to bring their site back online in some capacityl
Sorry for the lack of links, this all follows directly from the transaction ID in the thread title and the other links I've posted.

49. Post 5570154 (copy this link) (by koryu) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_12.25h):

dont wanna spread fud but if the 200k btc belong to gox and they got access to them, what is likely to happen?

assuming this as facts:
mtgox lost approximately 750,000 bitcoins deposited by users.
the last exchange rate @gox is 136$.
they have 200k btc

what options they have?

lets do some math....

(I)
they have 750k/200k = 0.2666 ~ 26,6% of the deposited coins.
give each user 26,6% of his deposited coins back.

(II)
paying the last price of 136$ each btc which would be 0.75m btc * 136$ = 102m $
therefore they had to sell the 200k btc to a whale for 510$ each btc: 102m$ / 0.2m btc = 510$

(III)
claiming they have no access to the btcs and its somebody else doing the current transactions.

just my brainstorming, does this make sense?

The leaked code, I understand, splits bitcoins into 2 outputs randomly up to a roughly 40%/60% split. i do not understand what the purpose of doing that would be in the norma; course of MtGox's business.

Also, if MtGox is trying to come back up online, why would it be splitting the contents of the previously cold address up into lots of random, smaller amounts at all?

My first impression was that a thief is splitting up the hoard into smaller amounts that might later be fed through a tumbler, although arguably the thief is leaving a bigger, albeit more confusing, trail by doing so. One slip might reveal who is splitting the hoard up.

The more I watch, the less I understand what is going on.

Is Karpeles going to pay people 200K BTC to throw them of the trail of the much larger missing remainder? I do not trust Karpeles an inch.

Splitting up coins for a hot wallet is a good idea because if you just use a single huge output, you can process one withdrawal and then have to wait for it to confirm before you can use the remaining funds, since they're all in a change address. Or you can send unconfirmed change out, but then you're susceptible to malleability abuse. If you're going to deposit coins from a cold into a hot wallet, it is good practice to split them up in many small outputs.

you dont want to have a single hot wallet. its also more secure, even if it sounds bit cynical in a same sentence with mtgox.

Really, is Chinese traffic fake?  Huobi and Okcoin are both transaction free. Also leverage trade is helpful for big traffic?

Days ago, Okcoin announced testing leverage trade, offering clients p2p platform for borrow/lend cny/btc/ltc.
Could this be the explanation for okcoin's overpass on Huobi? We know, Huobi started leverage shortly after setup last year.

At okcoin, cheapest rate for borrowing cny/btc/ltc are 0.24/0.1/0.28%, on daily basis, but test transaction seems very quiet.

okcoin volume looks really fake to me. if you compare the volume with the order book depth, this volume cant be true.

Serious question:

What's the point of the mtgox data dump, and even looking into it?

It only means we get a glimpse into their *internal* accounting... how does that tell us anything that we don't know already.

Possible that I'm missing something though, so please correct me if I didn't think this through enough...

My thoughts as well.

i guess poeple are hoping to find evidence that the 180,000 coins moved around the other day was infact GOX coins?

looking forward to a full report.

yes.

imo thats the information of the leak: 950k user balance. gox says 750k are missing. so 200k left.
but it also tells us that gox should have 500k left instead of 200k. according to the BTC-Transfer-Report file.

but data could be manipulated before the release.

not sure.
chinese cant trade ltc into btc directly, they have to trade ltc -> fiat -> btc. btc/cny could raise and that could affect btc/usd.
but the volume hasnt moved yet, ltc stil higher than btc.

what news?

what exactly to you mean with tanking? atm we see just pump and dump as expected.

but many people are bullish on ltc in mid term because scrypt asics will increase the production cost of ltc. https://www.mining-asics-technologies.com/product/excalibur-3-asic-scrypt-miner-200-mhs/

my calculation is that production cost of ltc will be 30$+. And Satoshi told us "The price of any commodity tends to gravitate toward the production cost.".
litecoin is going to stabilize its position as the king of the altcoins.

Well, the biggest holders won't sell everything all at once. They will sell their coins gradually, and in all probability, some of them are actually the same guys who are yelling "it's an trend reversal! Buy!" in this forum, so they could drop their coins with better profits. If the price reaches certain heights then there will be another drop. The drops that you are seeing, are the effects of those little spikes that you can see here http://blockchain.info/charts/bitcoin-days-destroyed. And this isn't over yet. It will be slow and painful as long as there are fools who can be tricked with these constant "trend reversals". Only way how this would be over quick, would be if less people would fall for that. Then the dumpers would need to fasten their dumping.

and why would we go below 400 then? the market makers do not sell the bottom, they sell when we are up in the triangle, the weak hands sell the bottom. this might go on for another month.
i just dont see why we would go to 100-300$ like people post here. its more likely that we will leave the triangle sideways without a lower low and then start to go up.

http://finance.china.com.cn/news/special/boao2014/20140411/2327233.shtml

just woke up, is this the reason why we have gone up a bit?  i also read that the second market had bought 5k btc. are there any more news?

the recent panic selling starts to worry me. didnt expect people to sell that low. but now when it happens, i am not sure if that was the bottom.

I get more positive again when we go above 300 but I probably don't 'get excited' until I see 1000 USD coins again. I think we could see maybe 500-600 USD coins next summer as a result of the halving which will be good for all of us.

what makes me excited are all signals pointing to the end of the bearmarket. 260 and 340 are the levels I am watching.

500-600$ coins would be very nice for all who bought in the 200s Smiley

Surely in the past 10 months, we have spent more time below $250 as compared to above $250, but also in the past 10 months we have experienced two significant and price surges into the upper $200s... therefore, probably there will be NO real objective rationale to get excited, until prices go into the $300s and mostly stay above $300.

I am in agreement, more or less that experiencing prices above $340 would probably cause considerable excitement, and may even cause a lot of us to conclude that we have left the $200s forever... if such a thing is even possible anymore...

 Wink Wink Shocked

YES>>>>> we are likely going to leave this $200 price territory, it is just a matter of when.... within the next two weeks does NOT seem very likely, but maybe after the fed auction... and maybe after the December scaleability meeting, there may be more developments that allow BTC to leave te $200s for good?

If we get into the mid-$300s and even into the $400s, then likely even some of the bears will be converting into BTC bulls.

my numbers are mainly based on ta. I believe that the scaleability problem can be solved and that the final auction won't effect the price much because it's the final one, ...no more easy bulk deals after it.

these are the lines I am watching since a while and why i said 250 was obvious. I think 260+ would be another signal that we have left the bear market and I would expect 340 as new target with a chance of a real rally. Then its time to get excited.
The other scenario is that we go back down the yellow line for some time, prolly again to 220 or 208 massive support

Doesn't surprise me. People need to start realizing that in e.g. the US you lose 2% of your net worth each year. Bitcoin helps you avoid these things
...by losing up to 75% a year.

and it has many more benefits besides this one,
...like allowing you to fund USMS through various DNMs. Also terrorists Smiley

You are just pathetic. Nobody ever used fiat for terrorists funding. Yea right. Do you beat of to every other response you get? Troll like you are just a poor looser. Get a life

Fiat is also used to buy food and build roads and stuff. Bitcoin? Funding the USMS via unanimous donations is only one of the fun things it can do. Bitcoin' also for extortionists, kidnappers, drug addicts, pedophiles, degenerate gamblers, ponzi promoters and ...have I missed anything? Oh yeah, you can also try to pay fake Angels for fake murders, there's that...

Depends where you're looking at. The sell side has more pressure now on Bitstamp and there is also this ~2k wall at $310:

Update: That's not the point.

completely different in china, asks down bids up: http://data.bitcoinity.org/markets/bidask_sum/30d/CNY/btcchina?bp=50&bu=c&r=hour&t=m

arbs can can only move so much from one side to the other before their funding gets exhausted .... then they need the arb to go the other way to move the funds back ... seems like moves like these and weekend fiat transfers have exhausted everybody.

Yep. Tomorrow fresh fiat will hit exchanges and the gap should close a bit (at least that gap between Bitstamp and Bitfinex).

Personally I'm looking if it is possible to convert Tether USD (Bitfinex) to Ripple USD (Bitstamp). If the gap continues this could bring some money  Smiley

my numbers are mainly based on ta.

The other scenario is that we go back down the yellow line for some time, prolly again to 220 or 208 massive support

i think its time to go back and compare the situation before and after the breakout of the last channel.  the breakout happened way faster than expected and the auction  fueled it.

it's time to analyze the new situation in daily and weekly chart. there some interesting possible scenarios. the most bullish one is that the upper line of the old daily channel or the upper line of the weekly channel is building the resistance and we have a new uptrend channel and continue the rally.
but there are a few more possible scenarios, if anybody is interested I would post them in a separate topic later today or at the weekend.

If you want to protect wealth, you better buy those "evil, evil" US dollars, not bitcoin, gold or other speculative "products" Wink

FED rocks!

Actually usd is the lesser evil.
Mario Draghi from ecb does everything to devaluate the euro. So his friends from Goldman Sachs can start a nice little shopping tour here in Germany and buy our companies and real estates.
Kinda cool if you know that the euro will go down before others know it.

It doesn't look like a sustainable up-trend. Prove me wrong.

I think resistance levels are 350 and 385, imo breaking 350 would target 385.
I see support @ 325 if this is fail breakout or manipulation

Btcchina is only showing 1k of bids to prevent a $30 drop. Looking at the orders a whale could move the market either way at lightening speed. I hope we don't get a hair raising spike that costs us all a load of cash for a whale to line his pockets with. If it get get above $250 and stay above it I'll be happy.

take a look here, ask sum has decreased heavily, bidsum has tanked, no bulletproof indicator but a bullish sign:

Well I tripled upon my short. Not too worried as I still have close to a $900 liquidation price. New margin longs outnumber margin shorts over 1000:1.  When this rally stalls out,, You bulls better hope somebody's down there with a safety net because this order book is looking like there might be a correction any time.

now comes the hard part: the waiting.

I'm sorry. How can anyone be comfortable with the walls looking like THIS? Before the last rally from $375 to $475, a huge wall base built up and the bids looked 3x bigger than the asks. Now it just looks like it could go for another Friday. Longs are also even higher than before at $27.1M

yes it looks a bit scary and seems like double top possible. but click on btcchina and check its orderbook.  they have nearly 2:1 bid ask ratio (10k btc to 2500cny, 5k btc to 3500cny), demand is in china, imo without china this prolly would have droped down already.

I think saying "the demand is in China' quite possibly one of the most bearish things you can say, after everything that happened in 2013-2014 with PBOC and all the fake volume. I came back here after 2 years expecting Chinese would be completely factored out of the price levels by now and that everything would be based on USD and adoption. I even expected it would be $1000 by now, all based on USD and adoption. Saying that $460 is 'supported by China' is like going way back in time and being a bear.

I wouldnt say the demand is in general in china, just a snapshot at this price level at this time. My interpretation of the sentiment is: west is waiting to buy the dip while china is still in buying mood.
Maybe it's because chinese havent so many options to invest their money, gold and shanghai composite doesnt look attractive and they could fear cny/cnh devaluation.

In general the demand in the west should be very different from 2013 because there are more institutional investors now, GBTC and ETFs, regulated exchanges.

The only question is whether we retake 504 on this run or not.

If we do best the previous high then expect the media to start to wake up and everyone prepare for a clamour and cacophony about retest of the ATH.

Interesting times.

All I know is that after reviewing my hardware vs difficulty vs return document home miners can still profit if btc is over $450 and only pay $0.10 kWh of power.

If you pay $0.03 kWh of power btc can be down at $150 USD and still profit.

I have revised my old hardware return vs network difficulty increase chart to shine some light on this.

This document has been shared for anyone to use.

BTC at $150 USD power costs at $0.03 kWh.

BTC at $450 USD power costs at $0.03 kWh.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZphwgPk2lySm3sNlHnow6tuwx6YUV0G7qGDtRZ2xFbk/edit?usp=sharing
You will also find other sheets that contain estimated returns that only factor in power costs.
Please note that this does not take into account hardware or other overhead costs.

great work  Smiley
