The price is about to go down... History always repeats itself

Look at the blockchain market price from 2011 compared to 2013, almost identical. The price isn't just going to shoot up out of nowhere.

Maybe not, large buy at gox ($125) can fix this and drive us much up (but imho not very possible). Don't take my word if serious money is in the game.

Spit happens man, I didn't spend my whole quota so I am going to see where it goes.

Wouldn't be easier to just lobby against bitcoin. Or to make googlecoin

There's a theory that Bitcoin actually IS Googlecoin, but that Google have not admitted to it and never will.

The Google founders talked about "Google Bucks" a few years before Bitcoin was introduced. And there's a later video of Eric Schmidt from around 2011 where he says "Bitcoin is a great idea, Google looked into creating something similar but the regulatory hurdles were too much to overcome". So it's possible they went ahead anyway, but in such a way that their product couldn't be traced back to them.

Not saying I believe it necessarily, but it's vaguely plausible.

Not to mention one of Google's employees worked closely with Satoshi in developing Bitcoin in the early years

To be honest, looks like a bear trap.

If its not, then Bitstamp will probably dip down to the 110's because their is no buying power after that wall up.

It's called pump&dump.
That or it is because it's cheaper to buy one LTC than one BTC, and it has also gotten some media attention lately!

yeah but the whole argument behind ltc being cheaper is a psychological effect. Thats like saying 1 gram copper is cheaper than 1 gram gold.

Are people going to buy all the copper just because its cheaper than gold? When gold is the one that is organically increasing in value and has all the use?

Yep. 4-6 confirmations are what exchanges wait for when transferring millions of dollars. Who gives a shit when it's a $1 coffee?

Yup, when its the one dollar coffee, the merchant just needs to make sure a miners fee was sent. Otherwise the payment may be sent back to the originating address.

Confirmations don't really matter if there is a miners fee sent, speaking on behalf of small transactions.

But seriously is LTC more user-friendly than BTC? Because I bought bitcoin for the long-term thinking there is a decent chance it goes mainstream and increase in value.. And I really didnt think there was any other crypto-currency who could compete with it.. LTC maybe a little bit but I wasnt even concerned.. But now that it is raising in value and I hear people saying its more user-friendly I am a little worried lol.

Its the same exact thing except it uses a different encryption, and is everything BTC/4

The whole btc/4 thing is a marketing gimmick too. People automatically assume it will be worth 0.25btc per ltc in the future. But just because I make a coin with 84 million, does not mean my coin is automatically worth 0.25btc

Its raising in value just like other altcoins raise in value, but this is the worst time in history to get into LTC because a dump of vast proportions is about to be witnessed.

Transactions aren't faster at all, transactions are the same speed. The confirmations happen every 2.5 minutes vs BTC's 10 minute. But this does not make it faster. 1 confirmation on the btc network is worth alot more than 3 confirmations on the ltc network.

I don't doubt LTC will be a player in the market, but right now its wayyyyy overvalued and will be correcting soon.

The price will drop tomorrow because there are no trading fees. The exchanges participating in bitcoin black friday announced yesterday they will not charge fees. This means that buyers money will not arrive until monday or tuesday, so buyers cannot take advantage of the no-fee trading.

This will let the sellers cash out without paying the trading fees. So the price is set to go down tomorrow, bet on it.

The USSA

& BTC-e is just a matter of time before it gets shut down. They service US customers, so there is the feds main reason to shut it down.

Hahha nice rally going on once again Grin

Theorize with me here, I've heard some grumblings if we don't attack the ATH this week blah blah we'll regress by the weekend. I believe another sell off Friday or over the "weak-end" would require some bad enough news or be easily misinterpreted. That being said I would like to just see us consolidate for a whole week and move horizontal which in my opinion would confirm were building a base for our next liftoff.

Stress tests on the Slovenian banking system will be released on Friday evening. Speculation is that the government will have to find 4billion Euro from somewhere to recapitalise its banks. My guess is that they announce a bail-in on Saturday morning (the Cyprus bail-in was also announced on a Saturday morning). Fuck knows what that will do to Bitstamp and the price on other markets.

If memory serves and for what is worth Bitstamp's bank is italian.

Bitstamp is a UK registered company with a Unicredit Slovenia bank account. Unicredit Slovenia is owned by the Italian parent company Unicredit but since they have a Slovenian banking license they follow Slovenian laws. Maybe they'll escape the shitstorm because they have a big parent bank or maybe they'll be dragged into it by the politicians to appease voters that foreigners aren't getting off lightly.

Should I be worried and move my coins out of BitStamp?

Coins are probably fine, fiat is what you should be worried about.

their have been 1000's of shitcoin and these ones stand out

All those coins have no utility features that Bitcoin doesn't have. Different hashing algorithms and encryption are cool, but if all those coin's main purpose is to be a currency, Bitcoin already runs that street.

If you want innovative coins, you need to look at BTC (of course), MSC, NXT, eMunie. I think those 3 have the most promise, even if MSC and NXT are labeled as "premined"

India may not have alot of wealth, but the people there cherish gold. Even the poorest people in India keep gold in their hands. The fact that Bitcoin has so many gold-like properties is my reason why I think Bitcoin would do great in India. Although the Indian government might not like it.

That pastebin was taken completely out of context. The user on here who posted it also apologised to gmaxwell on IRC for posting it

As I said earlier on IRC, I did not mean to step on anyone's toes, especially not gmaxwell's. I had no context, since I joined the channel just moments before. I did just mean to provide information and don't have any $/BTC on Gox. Didn't mean to spread FUD/fear and have no agenda, the post was meant to be informative in nature only.

Should there be any relevant context, that changes the perceived meaning, someone please post it.

But the information that was posted, is believed to be true? So whats wrong with the context?

That's amazing. You're willing to risk all that money?
This isn't my only deposit to gox recently and may not be the last one either. I simply do not buy the idea that mtgox is insolvent. They have made far too many BTC since they came online in 2010. I don't feel like I'm taking much risk and if mtgox has lost 50% of their BTC I still win. Honestly, what are the odds mtgox has lost 50% of their bitcoin?

Pretty good. Sorry about your loss..

Interesting that this time alts are not following BTC, they're even going lower. Are we going to see decoupling again like before December?

Look at Darkcoin. +30% last 24h, yeah that's sustainable. Smiley

I too have noticed that alts like LTC and DOGE are not following BTC, they are flat or even seeing new lows (DOGE).

I suspect Darkcoin and perhaps a few other alts have something to do with it. Darkcoin has anonymous transactions. Now, ignore Darkcoin and that for a second, my point is really that LTC and DOGE has basically nothing that BTC does not have (LTC has slightly faster transactions, DOGE has MARKETING) and that leaves the door open for any new altcoin that does something which is fundamentally different (more anonymous transactions, for example).

Regardless, it seems BTC has come out #1 and left the challengers in the dust this round.

Darkcoin saved my alt portfolio, but i think other ults will start pumping, when the new crypto proponents enter, this space, (they all dislike bitcoin for some reason and justify using alts, just wait until the feedback loop starts)

At the start of the bitcoin run up from $120 to $1,000 i picked up a fiew LTC at $3 it then outperformed bitcoin i believe for the reason above. I never thought it could take off, but it did.  The same thing will happen to a few select alts, not sure how LTC will go though, but it will be something to monitor.

Darkcoin is a great concept, but I wish they would start over. Reason being, originally there were supposed to be 84 million, and there was a bug that instamined 10%, and then they lowered it to 21 million after those coins were out. So about 8400000 coins from the instamine if I calculated correctly.

really? i had no idea. any idea how those coins were distributed? was it just a handful of insiders who developed the coin like an actual premine? or was there just a general mining frenzy?

the mining algorithm they were using had a bug, which determined how many coins would be rewarded

correction:

Was Darkcoin Instamined?

~2mn coins were issued in the first 48 hours due to problems with the difficulty readjustment. That represents approximately 10-15% of the total money supply that will ever be issued.

The majority of these coins were distributed through the market in the following weeks and months at very low price levels* (0.0000x BTC per DRK to 0.000x BTC per DRK) and a lot of them were also absorbed in the April/May 2014 price increase.

Actually i think i know the answer already.

Can you read the part where it says I have a feeling? Or you blind?

=====

Unless something like ETF gets approved, or some big news hits the media I think we will go sideways for a bit.

Big players are waiting for regulation, Bitlicense guidelines will probably be released for comments early July, and like they said 60-90 days after is when they will start issuing the licenses, and will be a regulated environment.

I think once all that gets finished, we will be looking at new ATH late 2014, early 2015.

Okay, if they're really approving an exchange this is great news, but it has actually been unbanned before in Thailand. Many of the countries that had a rather strict stance on it before have since changed or at least softened their position.

I honestly think people with access to the dropbox cloud working there are "mining" through the data looking for BTC
related files.  I changed my password to a 30 char COMPLEX password after heartbleed and one day one of my wallets
was suddenly drained.  I completely forgot that I had an original backup of the wallet from long back saved in there
from like super early days of starting BTC and I hadnt encrypted the wallet file.  No one in the world had access to the
files or wallet password besides that file I had totally forgot about, except dropbox.  It was one of the few things I hadnt
put into the truecrypt container unfortunatley.

So yes, I have a feeling people working for dropbox are searching for .dat wallet files and text files with BTC related text.

how much did you lose? hope it wasn't alot, considering it was from early days

60-90 days after the proposal comes out is when the train comes

1-2 days. That's all you need to read and digest the impact of the regs.

Any regs will allow mainstream adoption, provided there are no negative tax rules introduced. So the train might start a week before they are due.

ya, 2-3 months after proposal is when they will start issuing them. Thats when the companies will be in full force

You got a source for that 4-5 months part? Or did you just make that up?
Actually i think i know the answer already.

Can you read the part where it says I have a feeling? Or you blind?

=====

Why is that?

Better regulations (we'll see) should be implemented in Q1 2015, Also Q1 2015 getting "well funded" Bitcoin institutional exchanges in New York

Lawsky is anticipating maybe a couple more comment periods and changes before Q1 2015.

Software/Platform Developers Not regulated
Miners not regulated

Open-source peer2peer cryptocurrency eagerly anticipates centralized regulation. Love the irony there. We should get MS or Apple to take over the core development too, because humans can't really do anything without some central authority.

Regulation is gonna happen no matter what. There is no fighting it. You should be happy that it's not "fuck you in the ass regulation". It's a little nicer than that.

That, and the ETF is really a dumping of around 200k coins (give or take), thats about 350k bitcoins that need to be purchased. The only good thing about the ETF is that it allows money already in Nasdaq to be put into Bitcoin. The bad thing about the ETF is, that it allows banks and others who print their own money, to consistently open shorts on the ETF, artificially keeping the price down.

The issuer can decide when to "go public" once approved. In other words, they manage their own announcement, not the SEC. They'll know first.

just kidding i'm not a fucking retard

made me lol. I was looking into buying XRP today, then I read this:

"The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"

Launching an exchange is the easy part. After launch, getting volume and network effect is the hard part. Look at itBit for example. After their New york trust license, nothing significant happened. I don't expect any different for Gemini.

Yeh, I'm not really seeing why there should be any significant price impact. We are just getting more fragmentation of volume across exchanges, which I am not sure is great for anyone except bots and arbers. Sure, no central point of failure, like Gox, but volume is going to need to pick up make all these ventures profitable.

Some will say it is one step closer to COIN - that may or may not be true. I have no idea if the SEC is looking at the two as a package.

I'm just speculating, but the Winklevoss are going to need to submit another S-1A without mtgox, btc-e and other foreign exchanges listed in it. Once itBit, Gemini, Coinsetter, Coinbase Exchange, and other US exchanges are the main ones with enough volume, they need to submit another S-1A and the SEC might approve it. I think that is one of the main things holding it up. I am expecting the ETF to go live maybe by summer of next year.

It's funny how 80% of bitcoiners assume that bitcoin will increase in price again.

Most of the time, the opposite happens. If you look outside of the Bitcoin community, there is WAY more people that want this project to fail rather than to succeed.

Innovation in this space is moving rapidly as well. It might be taboo in this community to root for alternatives, but Satoshi and core devs aren't the only genius's. There are better coders and cryptographers working on other systems too.

Not that I want Bitcoin to fail, I want it to succeed and make all the holders rich, but this isn't always the case. There is less than $1 billion invested in Bitcoin. If it fails, it is a miniscule ratio compared to the dot com bubble or other highly invested failures.

People just need to take it with a grain of salt that returns aren't guaranteed, even though it's a high probability, if this blockchain keeps gaining momentum vs others.

The main driver for bitcoin prices seem to be Greek buyers.  Joshua Scigala, co-founder of Vaultoro.com, told Reuters this week that his company has seen a 124 per cent pick up in web hits from Greek IP addresses.
http://business.financialpost.com/investing/bitcoin-is-the-real-winner-in-greece-crisis

Vaultoro sells gold for bitcoin.  Perhaps those hits were just Greek googling for "gold".

The recent price rise may not be due to Greeks buying bitcoin, but rather to non-Greeek traders buying bitcoins because they expect the Greek to buy.

Someone noted that it started as soon as negotiations collapsed and Tsipras announced the referendum.  Wasn't that too soon?  It would take time for the Greeks to open accounts at Bitstamp or Coinbase, send their money there, etc..

I wonder how many Greek have heard of bitcoin but haven't heard of Neo&Bee?

Speaking of Vaultoro, now that I have been nominated official scam-buster: I cannot find what the two young owners did before launching teh company,  the country where they are located, the name of any associated companies (auditors, insurers, the gold vault company, etc.).  I haven't looked, but I would not be surprised if they are not registered as a company anywhere.   The website seems to say that they don't require AML/KYC documents.  All are strong hints that it is a scam...

Not defending Vaultoro, but alot of your facts are wrong.

Vaultoro does not sell gold. They accept Bitcoin, and give you credits that represent gold value, you cannot actually redeem the gold. You redeem BTC that is the gold value equiavelent.

They require AML/KYC after a certain volume threshold.

I guess Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP couldn't get the job done, so they found another attorney.

good indicator: a few months before the ETF goes live because they will submit another S-1A excluding companies like mtgox, btc-e, and including companies like itbit, gemini, coinbase exchange etc

I think the SEC looked at the current, and previous, S-1A's with all those shady companies and laughed.

Gemini and itBit are practically the same in terms of regulations. And itBit is already launched. ETF's dont require the sponsors to launch their own exchange.

Just watched Patrick Byrne's announcement.  Basically he announced "t0.com" (tee-zero), a registry for asset ownership that uses ~~the~~ a blockchain to record actual ownership of stocks and similar things.  He claims it will give shareholders actual ownership of the shares, and contrasted it with the current system, under which a shareholder does not actually own a share of the company, but only has an IOU from a privileged company that actually owns all the shares.

They are ging to use the Bitcoin blockchain at first, but he said something like "It is ledger agnostic - it can work on Bitcoin, on Ripple, and on another one we are working with but can't tell you yet".

Price seems to be going downhill, what do you guys think? Can it remain stable at 265, or will it go entirely down to 230 because of a huge pump and dump?

I think $245 is the number to watch, then uptrend again.

Guys, when is the next federal auction happening? I can't seem to find the date online. I think this is the last time we'll see the price shoot up then go down to under $250 (sometime after this last auction). After this, I have no idea what will happen between December 2015 and the pre-halving pump/dump.

it's going to "crash" very soon... it make sense to support slightly lower prices as you unload slightly higher,  scraping 1% as you unload, i do this often. bulls just wrecked themselves, when the selling is done the support from the scraping is done too. and what are you left with? a bunch of lagtards trying to grab profits as the top clearly forms, then panic ensues and i cover.

Exactly, 13  1-week candles, and 12 of them green? It'll balance out soon.

Can you imagine that arrogant little snipe not getting his way inside a corporate IT project, just waiting to slip the knife in or totally blow-up the project in a PR nightmare intended to destroy its credibility??

Having a loose cannon like that inside any organisation is dangerous, he was only tolerated in an Open Source project because once he did something just ok ... and then spent the rest of the time sulking and pouting after not getting his way when trying to force crap changes into the codebase.

Pretty sure we can pull the necessary strings to get Mike to do the right thing when the time comes, now he is gainfully occupied finally.

every day without an inch of movement from Blockstream, increases the possibility. The fact that they start bringing up PoW changes when backed into a corner gives even more weight to the idea that they would rather go to war than compromise to 2MB.

Blockstream is moving rapidly on segwit, sidechains, and Lightning.  They are meticulously preparing Bitcoin to be carefully scaled ASAP.

Classic, OTOH, is spreading '2MB? Not much testing needed' nonsense.

And yes, we will "go to war" to defend Bitcoin's diverse/diffuse/defensible/resilient characteristics, from which its key interesting property of antifragility emerges.

Whine about it all you want.  Nothing you do can move our Honey Badger's needle one iota.  You have no power here.

Core has a scaling roadmap to make bitcoin scale far beyond what is capable with block increases. Who told you that they consider scaling a bad thing or that a fee market is their first priority?

With fees at 0.00$ to 0.05$, being ~1% of the block reward, there is no meaningful fee market to discuss about. There is definitely a mechanism where you can bypass the queue by a higher fee, and in this sense it is a market, but the volume of this market is so tiny that it doesn't even register compared to what subsidy does. Miners could be mining empty blocks and it wouldn't affect their pocket negatively. That's how insignificant it is.

If devs push for highers fees => "ohhh those fuckers want to exclude the poor guy"
If devs allow for more space/tx abundance at near-zero fees => "ohhh they are idiots, this attracts attacks, it can't work for the long-term sustainability of bitcoin and bitcoin mining" etc etc.
If devs don't interefere => "oh they are sitting on their ass doing nothing and their incompetence has created these problems"

Whatever they do, either way, or whatever they don't do, you can find a reason to attack them. This type of thinking can be evidenced by writings such as BillyJoe's who, a few months ago, was saying "ohhh I don't want to pay higher fees, I bought my right to transact when I bought my coins" and then, when commenting on the Lightning network, he was spreading FUD about how will the miners get paid if the LN can do so many transactions at low fees, and that miners should get more fees, otherwise bitcoin will be in problem etc etc.

Whatever the situation => you can use it to attack the devs. And this is happening all day.

Low fees? Fuck the devs.
High fees? Fuck the devs.
The devs are staying out of the argument? Fuck the devs again.

Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs, Fuck the devs

...all day long...

Why?

Because the issues here are not technical. They have the facade of technical disagreements but at their root, they are a way to undermine confidence and promote a governance coup.

{Applause.gif}

Don't forget:
Devs communicate?  Fuck them for manipulating public opinion.
Devs don't communicate?  Fuck them for ignoring human dignity.

Let's make a list of everyone who has been here long enough to know better, but is nevertheless pushing the false "ZOMG SEGWIT CAUSES CHAIN FORKZ!11!!" narrative in yet another attempt to manufacture panic.

And then you have people like HostFat, who tell people to boycott Core/Blockstream/theymos yet still runs their code and posts on their forums.

Got anything to back this up, any analysis etc? Or just trolling/shilling?

Not trolling shilling. Only ignorant people would think one is trolling/shilling because they make a price prediction that doesn't say moon next week.

My analysis is in my brain.

Between June, July, August will reach 3xx, and then once segwit/lightning goes live it should pick up the price.

The halving is soon, the sensible prediction would be sideways 'ish' for a month or three. Then when the halving has had an effect we'll go to around $550-600 at least.

I guess it's possible a few whales could manipulate the price by selling a load of coins to crash the price pre halving & then buy back in before the predicted halving related rise.

Aside from that I haven't seen anything really negative that'd cause a sizeable drop.

Anybody else agree?

The halving is already priced in. Everyone knows about it, miners are prepared, it's not like it's gonna sneak up on them and shoot the price up. All the coins are already priced in. The only thing not priced in is any changes.

Also the bollinger bands, just because the bands are tight right now doesn't mean we're going up. We can also go down, but last time the bands were this tight, we went sideways for some time.

Bro, are ya'll new to Bitcoin or something or just really naive? It doesn't matter if the prices are the same. If you're not buying your hardware wallets from the official source, chances are you will get something that someone wrote down the seed, and repackaged it, providing a pin like 0000 and the seed. The prices are the same so scammers don't lose money off sales.

I should really dig up some old JayJuanGee shitposts and get a good lol at how time makes him look like a dipshit.

Blockchain.com (AKA Blockchain.info) is basically altcoin central now because the market is shifting away from BTC because people aren't fans of waking up to $150 txid fees.  *shocker*

Want to know why Bitcoin is about to slip under 60% dominance in the cryptocurrency market?  Because lots of people lost lots of faith in it... who cares if you got a few rich dipshits holding the hundred billion dollar market up with a few hundred million bucks... it's the market that you want vs just a few rich dicks.  "He can move $100 million dollars for $200, that's a great deal!"... but that dude that's trying to pay his $500 rent is also paying $200 to move his coins.  It's a bad deal.

Ever try to sell a Bitcoin to normal people at these levels?  You'll starve.  You got to go to certain places that have these few rich dick funds.  Bitcoin is way overpriced right now and the market is doing speed wobbles.

I expect Bitcoin under $5,000 by OCT.

Shhhh the truth hurts some.

But the Bitcoin under $5,000 prediction is not likely imo.

Although, when looking at all the blockchain communities individually, I feel there are other projects which will be gaining on BTC in the months and years to come.

Bitcoin is great but it has many flaws, which many "maximalists" in the community will try to defend till the death. Heck, I am a BTC maximalist in a sense because that's 80%+ of my portfolio, but it does have flaws. But i'm not a die hard loyal to any blockchain. If something better comes along, i'll happily dump and move over. But as of now, nothing can really beat BTC at the moment.

Although, privacy, scalability, decreasing mining subsidies (2 halvings in the future I think), very slow if not impossible to add features which require hard forks. We're seeing mining fees very low right now, which is cool, but people won't be willing to pay $100 to get into the next block. This alone will drive users to other chains which can provide the utility and liquidity they are looking for.

I've been following this industry closely since 2011, and I'm extremely bullish on the cryptocurrency industry in general, but I do foresee other projects gaining traction against BTC.

Although, I think BTC will remain the market cap leader for quite some time.

I want to believe this but I don’t think so. The SEC seem totally disinterested in anything close to approving an ETF.

I guess the above is true.....until they do approve one.

If they don't, it's gonna have to be a on a new rejection basis compared to their previous rejections, which by the looks of it, Bitwise has satisfied those concerns. Then it really is a moving goalpost. But I don't think that will happen. We already have regulated spot, regulated options/futures, and a Bitcoin ETF wouldn't be that risky anymore.
