I think, people (currently japan) are just buying by name, bitcoin beeing number one, ethereum sounds good too, but man, satoshi picked the best name, right off the start.
ethereum doesn't sound good to me. there are much better names of altcoins out there.
but i agree that bitcoin is the best brand for foreseeable future.

I know that we want to keep on writing off ETH - but there is continued and ongoing pump..

So, yeah, we keep thinking that the bubble and the smoke and mirrors is going to pop and come to a close - but does not want to stop... goes up instead of down?  continues to baffle me.

Just invest a large amount of money into it, then it will pop  Tongue

A very serious.

Of course, many former HYIP admins moved to crypto world.
And ETH + ICOs. eth is becoming massive platform harboring various ponzis. Most of the 'projects' are just fake. But people will fall for it anyway. No warning is being listened to.

If this becomes too big, it will shed very bad publicity on crypto world. And authorities will have one more reason for crack down and to heavily regulate everything.

The other advantage ETH has is the psychological advance of price. When people buy something they are not looking at market cap, they say hey ETH is $300 and bitcoin is $3000, I am buying ETH because it is going to be worth $3000 soon. It is not logical but it is the reason stock splits are common, people like to buy 10 of something that is $100 rather than 1 of something that is $1000.
with that logic they can buy ETC, its even cheaper and not different from ETH. this all looks just like hype

At this time, I would hardly call it a failed retest.. to be bouncing within 5% of the top.

You gotta zoom out a bit, have a little patience, and see the price pressure situation, as it is, rather than what you wished it would be.

And yeah, sure, for several days, we could kind of float in the price arena that is immediately preceding the ATH - even 5% or a bit more and not break above such ATH, but that does not conclude that we have actually retested such ATH.

The Fed raised rates today. So there's that.

No more free ride for hot money?

It could be a combination of factors. Bitfinex is lower than stamp and seems to be leading the dip. Someone's dumping coins on finex.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of hot money dumping btc to run and start accumulating that IOTA crap, whatever the hell that is.  They'll accumulate at 0.50c for a while, then start pumping it.

Good to see that the price has recovered well after the recent dump, lowest I saw was in the $2100's range. We are now up to $2540 on Bitstamp so the question I want to ask is who are the weak hands who sold at the bottom?

Yep I was thinking that we were going to have one more leg to the dump (correction), and in the past 12 hours or so, I have becoming a bit more inclined to believe that there might not be a third leg.  We just got two legs.

Also, I do not sell on the way down, I buy, but since I thought that there might be a third leg down, I held back a bit on buying as much, just in case.

We are not out of the woods, yet, so we could still have a third downward leg, but the odds seem to becoming less and less especially given the seemingly pretty decent onwards and upwards buying pressure, and if we get above $2600, then it going to seem pretty probable that we are back on track to test $3k.

Actually, it is going to be a bit difficult for this week's candle to turn out green.  In order to close green, we have to be above $2,960 at midnight GMT.  What are the odds?  less than 30%?  I wonder?  Would be pretty bullish if this week's candle ended up green, no?

30% I think is very high. I'd say more like 5%

Hahahahaa..   I understand that you want to be conservative in your estimations, but

What a pessimist!!!!
 Tongue

I could give you 15% or 20%, but 5%?  I know that you are not a bear, but isn't that a bit too low?

2960? i would see odds 10-15%, imo this run will stall and correct down from not higher than 2800-2850 (if it gets there at all)

I don't think there is a very reliable way to predict it, and history doesn't always repeat itself. However Elwar says that in 2013 the price doubling in a week, or half a week was what preceded a crash.

In 2013 it went like this.

First bubble:
Double in a month
Double in 2 weeks
Double in 1 week
Double in half a week
Up a bit then crash

Second bubble:
Double in a month
Double in 2 weeks
Double in 1 week
Up a bit then crash

Recently we doubled in a month (1250 to 2500) but then it flattened out. That's a good thing.
measuring parabolic growth development in time can work, but there will still be uncertainty, as its never exactly same situation as in the past.
Good for targeting closing of long positions, but going short based on this would still feel like attempting to catch running train (got burned shorting eth around 220... :p)

Yes, could be an head and shoulder. But not yet confirmed

the pattern may be dependent on what exchange charts we are looking, but to me it looks more like a big triangle pattern forming on daily chart. that  would mean no major breakout for some time. Problem with most of the patterns is, that they can change during their development.

Are you dumping silver for cheaper BTC rebuy ?

What kind of fool would do that?  Silver is at cost of production or even below it for some miners.  Silver is a far better buy than BTC.  Next metals bull run will probably be gold $3000-3200, silver $90-120.  If there's some type of big economic event or lots of printing, gold $5000-ish, silver $166-$200.  If they're forced to revalue gold entirely in one act, gold will be set to $10-20k and silver will be astronomical.
and now imagine the price of bitcoin, if such  inflationary assets like metals reach $5-10k

gold price can be heavily manipulated.
1.)central banks are holding 10 times world's yearly production. They can release reserves when gold is expensive and refill when its cheap. they can manipulate price through futures markets as well.
2.)miners can increase/ decrease production accordingly as well
3.)total amount of gold produced (and relatively quickly available for sale) is still rising, and only very little is lost or used for industry

Watching closely the price is at $2248 but I think dump will happen any time soon before the month end because there will a lot panic due to the thirteen participate bitcoin exchanges planning to suspend the depositing and withdrawing bitcoin early next  month in Japan.
yeah, and it would be the logical way for big players to harvest bitcoins from those panic sellers. only question is, if there are still that many potential weak hands ready to panic sell.
We'll see. If it goes down, I'll be buying+ if it should get sub 1500, I am ready to raid my bank account and put more funds into bitcoin + hold long term.

Maybe park your btc in MNE for a while? Low supply, good ongoing development and potential twin release end of August.

I have parked several bitcoins into ORB 3 years ago Cheesy It has +-same market cap as what you suggest.

If you only have a minimum amount of BTC on exchanges IN RELATION to you total holdings, then it is somewhat ok, especially if you plan to trade the volatility.

FIAT is somewhat safe.... unless mtgoxed/bitfinexed....

Anyway, I don't know... I am just on the verge of settling the remaining of my margin long position at kraken thanks to the profits from the past two weeks. This same night if everything goes as expected. From that point on I will be playing safe, but not sure if I will withdraw the remaining BTC or keep trading.
Ok, Ill think it over, but probably will take a risk. In case of increased volatility, there will be an opportunity to make some profits and/or buy some bitcoins cheaper.

looks like finex will credit bch  [bcc] using "socialized distribution coefficient"

Quote
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Token Distribution
July 27, 2017

A minority of Bitcoin miners will be forking on August 1st, 2017 to create a new chain called Bitcoin Cash. The fork does not impact Bitcoin balances, but it creates a new token. At the time of the fork, all Bitcoin addresses holding a balance will automatically have equivalent balances in Bitcoin Cash.

There has been a variety of responses by the community about how to handle this new token. After a significant show of interest from our customers, we have decided to take steps to facilitate the distribution of Bitcoin Cash balances to those holding a settled Bitcoin balance on Bitfinex. We may also list markets for this new token, but that decision will be made after the fork event.

Although we see this token referred to as BCC on other platforms, unfortunately, that ticker symbol is already in use on our platform by the chain-split token representing Bitcoin Core. As such, we plan to use BCH as the ticker symbol and “Bcash” as the descriptive name to avoid confusion with Bitcoin.

Although several months ago, we developed a methodology for handling contentious hardforks, we will be applying a different methodology for what we regard as a spurious forking of the Bitcoin project with little mining support. Although we have not supported such Bitcoin UTXO-based distributions in the past (Stellar Lumens, Clams, etc.), we will support the distribution of Bitcoin Cash due to significant customer interest.

Distribution Policy

BCH will be distributed to settled bitcoin wallet balances as of the UTC timestamp of the first forking block, which is expected to occur on August 1st, 2017.

The token distribution methodology will be:

All BTC wallet balances will receive BCH
Margin longs in BTC/USD and margin shorts in XXX/BTC will not receive BCH
Margin shorts in BTC/USD and margin longs in XXX/BTC will not pay BCH
    BTC Lenders will receive BCH

Due to the net amount of BTC committed in margin positions at the time of the fork, the above methodology may result in Bitfinex seeing a surplus or deficit of BCH. As such, we will be resolving this discrepancy in the form of a socialized distribution coefficient. For example, currently, there are more longs than shorts on the platform, causing a distribution coefficient of ~1.091 (Meaning that for each qualifying BTC a user will receive 1.091 BCH). The actual coefficient will be calculated at the moment of the distribution. Please note that if there are more shorts than longs at the fork event, this coefficient will be less than one. This coefficient can be roughly computed from publicly available information from our API (longs & shorts) and the Blockchain (cold storage).

We recognize that this model is not perfect, but given the short time frames imposed upon us, better choices are not available. It would be an undue burden to create negative BCH balances for BTC/USD shorts and XXX/BTC longs. Furthermore, lenders may be locked in for up to 30 days and would be adversely impacted. In the end, we believe that this solution creates the least amount of disruption and facilitates a timely distribution of BCH.

Margin longs who wish to receive BCH should consider either claiming some or all of their position or exchanging and holding BTC collateral in their margin wallet as opposed to other assets. We hope to make withdrawals available soon after the fork, assuming everything is fine with the BCH blockchain.

Once again we want to reassure our customers that your bitcoin is safe and this event will not affect your bitcoin balances, positions, or loans - you will simply be receiving an additional token balance based upon the aforementioned methodology.

As the price of BCC is now priced into the current price of BTC

Pre Fork BTC = Post Fork BTC +  Post Fork BCC

So the real price of BTC is currently 0.885 * $2741   =    $2425

(obviously the price of BCC is not real yet)
I agree. Recent move up was probably caused by speculation that they can get more money from having BTC on aug1st and getting BCC or BCH whatewer. Thats likely also what caused most major altcoins significantly declining against bitcoin. - people selling part of their alts investments for bitcoin to get additional bcc.
I dont think its a wise move doing it now. i suspect that the formula can easily turn out like this in the end: Pre Fork BTC > Post Fork BTC +  Post Fork BCC.
It will be interesting, but this will likely turn out to be losing tactics - no free money from nowhere
+ also margin traders can be changing their collaterals from fiat/alts to BTC as well to get "free bcc" - another factor pushing price up.

Why would someone do that? If he keeps the lend until the end of the period I will make 120% on it. What is that, someone marging shorting BTC until he gets liquidated? (if not for the price increase for the huge lending interest).

Unfortunately it was a very small amount but... still... Anyone still having some active lends at crazy rates for a significant amount of BTC?

new technology=blockchain they will not ban it of course.

but what im afraid of is that states+banks+multinational companies will use the technology to create their own [controlled] tokens. And when they are ready few years from now, they could start prohibiting  other cryptos from financial transactions. its impossible to ban people from sending bitcoin transactions, but they can ban e-shops/exchanges from accepting them for purchases payments, and push for their own controlled coins instead.

Sure, there are decent chances that this week's candle will be red.

I think that we have about 24 hours before this week's candle closes, and I think that it has to close above $4550 in order for the candle to be green.  Something like that.

On the other hand, you are talking nonsense, if you are suggesting that some kind of continued correction is inevitable.  Pure nonsense, and wishful thinking too.   Cheesy Cheesy    Tongue
If you look at the past there were not many periods with so many consequent green weekly candles of such magnitude as in the recent rally. Its likely due to happen this month.
continued correction, maybe only for few weeks. but i still see this as a bull market. IMO It would take many weeks of consolidation around here before it could turn down bearish for longer period. If it drops sharply, it will likely rise back fast.

So way back in 2013, I devised a little unscientific theory as a way to measure the growth of Bitcoin and thus it's supported price floor.

I didn't have an accurate way to measure the exact number of participants and accounts across the world, so I just used Coinbase as a reference.

I surmised that for each 5X multiple in number of accounts, the price would be supported at around a 10X from the last price floor.

In 2015, Coinbase had around 2M accounts, and the price floor was found ~$250/btc.

Now they have approximately 10M accounts, and the price floor probably sits around $2500/btc (a rough guess).

So to extrapolate, in order to reach a support of $25k/btc, Coinbase would need to hit around 50M accounts.

Can we do it in the next 2-3 years?  I think it's possible. In 4-5 years I think it's a lock.
not bad for having some clue, but i think you should make some adjustments for diminishing supply as well

Agree 100%.  Like I said 1000x times before, the bitcoin price has mostly been controlld by a SINGLE ENTITY on Bitfinex ever since it was $200.  If a market is almost entirely controlled by one person, it's not a market, it's a fucking scam.  There is obviously very shady shit going on at Finex ever since they stole all those bitcoins during the halving then claimed they were "hacked".

I'm bullish for long term BTC, and will only support the original Core Chain, but the times are very uncertain and locking in some profits now is probably a wise move, (TBH I've already completed a sell, as I don't want to get caught in a rush for the door).
Im  still weighing these options, not decided yet:

1] to sell BTC now, in case bitcoin+b2x will go down, and after the fork both BTC+b2x will not add up to current price-so it would be cheaper to buy them after that
2]keep my BTC until I get b2x forked coins and then try to dump both as fast as possible, and wait. - the risk is it can drop down much faster before I'll be able to sell.
3] do nothing and keep both BTC and b2x indefinitely, hoping for the best. but i don't want to support any rogue fork or bitcoin takeover attempt.- therefore i would rather be out of BTC completely than hold b2x.

4] get out of all cryptos to fiat temporarily and wait for the dust to settle. (there is a chance alts will go deep down after BTC fork as well as bitcoin.) and reload later.

5] hedge with some alts (diversification) - may be risky as well. Some altcoins may pump hard though

--- aditional possible options:
*short BTC - but it would be against my "no BTC shorting" rule #1 of trading
*spend some bitcoin for hardware and stuff, before it (possibly) drops.

atm I still think we may see another ATH before fork, as people will panic buy, so they can get free b2x forked coins. ( hedging against the the takeover/death of BTC)

Im not getting why you people are panicking over shitfork.

Because of this:
Quote
Bitcoin is the ledger of not-previously-spent, validly signed transactions contained in the chain of blocks that begins with the genesis block (hash 000000000019d6689c085ae165831e934ff763ae46a2a6c172b3f1b60a8ce26f), follows the 21-million coin creation schedule, and has the most cumulative double-SHA256-proof-of-work.
You can curse him as much as you want, but that CIA employee is right about the definition. Verbal consensus is worth nothing, the only consensus mentioned in the Whitepaper is the consensus which chain has more POW.

I'm not saying there is a reason to panic, but this is full-blooded attack on what we consider BTC. They will probably fail (hopefully), but you can't say they are not trying.
Im still not worried. Until they want to kill both BTC and their fork (because thats what i think would be the result of killing btc). but in any case, I will not use their private coin operation. I would have to move on to some other alternative.

Truth be told, I'm bullish on Bitcoin Segwit too. I'm just much bullishier on Bitcoin Cash.
bullish? how. BCH will be forked into infinity, and because the user base and the real support is much smaller, it will slowly dissipate -there is no history of BCH, even though it copied bitcoins' years old blockchain.

if BTC's reputation is  significantly harmed in the process another coin can take over, but its unlikely to be BCH or its fork.

anyway,it will be time to buy cheap BTC Wink. I will rather go down with the bitcoin ship than into bitcash

Ouch, I think some people here, like Arklan, also started in 2011 and supposedly end up with barely anything.  But like Rosewater said, if Andreas Antonopoulos can end up with almost no bitcoin and only recently become debt free, then any bitcoiners can end up making wrong calls that eventually see most of their paper wealth evaporate (and that includes even the current semi-billionaire such as Roger Ver).
it was not just wrong calls.  I was hit by too many scams and hacks etc..
I was scammed on IRC OTC market, I was Goxed, and in the meantime scammed on couple of other small exchanges too (i remember mooncoin, bitparking, tradehill and there were some others i had coins on- i dont remember the exact sequence of events, but i was there with my coins in the wrong time). then got sick of it, got rid of all usefull coins and left back to forex for some time.
And of course I came back, trying altcoins: just in time for getting Cryptsied few months later.. Cheesy.. (bitfinex hack didnt hit me much, because at that time i had very little left there and it was paid back later)

It was pretty bumpy ride for those who wanted to trade on exchanges when the crypto industry was very young. Thats the part newbies today dont think about too much, when they are looking on exponential charts.

This spring I returned again. But I dont envy those who kept their cheap bitcoins (or some alts) from the beginning. They deserve it.

in my case, longterm under/unemployment and selling my btc before the 2013 spike... and lots of dumb choices.
yep this one too, I was looking for job for more than a year, after i finished school.  Perhaps i wouldnt bother to sell what was left for a few hundred dollars, if i didnt need money..

As for my bad trading decisions, it took me pretty long time to learn that bitcoin/fiat pair is quite different beast than forex or other financial instruments, and that shorting is not a good idea.. The same mistake as many so called "experts" are making today.

Cryptos can't work as a decentralized payment system whether the price is high or low, or bouncing all around. Cryptos just don't work and the market is taking its time to learn that, but we're now in the final long term down trend because enough people have realized it.

Central banks and other official institutions have been a key source of gold demand since 2010.
Between 2010 and 2016, average annual central bank net purchases were 470 tonnes, accounting for 11% of global gold demand. And global official gold holdings have grown to more than 33,000 tonnes,  from just under 31,000 tonnes in 2010.
Given this sector’s significance to the gold market, close attention is paid to movements in global gold reserves.

try to double spend your coins to a new address where you own the private key.

put a very high fee in this tx and hopefully your tx will be confirmed before the tx of the theft.

I am waiting for my core wallet to load, will be done in a few mins. Won’t it just have a balance of 0? If you could let me know how to do it I would appreciate it.

Where do you find the info which coins and when is Bittrex adding them? Tried to find this info for a long time and never found the source.
sorry for misleading, I meant bitfinex. but it was announced after they added them, not before.

for bittrex you can try twitter https://twitter.com/BittrexExchange

Yeah.. I hope the rest of us and the many HODLers get fucked, merely so you can accumulate a whole BTC.    Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I do find it a bit strange that you, as a member here since mid 2011, do not HODL more BTC, and also that you would be planning to increase your BTC holdings by 3x, in the event of another approximately 40% BTC price drop.  It is likely you are in a BTC accumulation stage rather than in a BTC maintenance stage, in spite of your years of membership on this forum.

Just for illustrative purposes, I will disclose that I have several times more BTC than you, and I am not trying to brag, but just stating a fact based on your representations.

And let me assert that surely, I am much more wealthy overall if BTC prices are up rather than down, but sounds like you and I have a similar BTC buy on the way down strategy, yet it seems that I play with much less extremes than you (likely because I am in a kind of maintenance stage and you are either in an accumulation stage or a BTC gambling stage).

Even though both of us are buying BTC as prices go down, my accumulation of BTC in terms of the percentage of my whole BTC holdings remains way smaller than yours, and if BTC prices were to go down another 40% from here, to approximately $6k, my current preset BTC buying plan would only trigger that I buy about 4% more BTC into my overall BTC holdings.

Seems like my street cred as largely a BTC HOLDer is bolstered by such a fact that I am not playing around with a very large percentage of my BTC holdings, even though I could possibly profit a bit more from a bit more aggressive BTC selling strategy that would thereafter result in me buying more BTC on the way down, but it seems that I am too chicken shit and conservative to take such a more aggressive approach, because I feel that overall I would probably end up getting screwed out of more BTC, if I were to take such a more aggressive approach that results in playing around with a larger percentage of my overall BTC holdings.
im not worried about long time holders, I believe they would  survive another brief 40% drop like they had to many times before.  Smiley
There is a plane B as well (actualy thats A), to accumulate through alts, which seems to be much easier than waiting for very deep dips.

Yeah, I find it strange too, but have already wrote somewhere, that i was hit but nearly every exchange scam since 2011  Grin Back then I was just a poor boy with old computer. I left back to forex several times after i got tired of getting scammed-but always returned after while... and finally quit with FOREX rigged game for good last summer.
[I can still remember my first encounter with scammer - on IRC otc market: https://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=FractalUniverse&sign=NEG&type=SENT]

The grid trading system is very good for bitcoin, you are playing it very safe. Im much more aggressive in trading, but true- its connected to amount of funds involved. There is large amount of variations to grids. its not necessary to accumulate or release slowly. Increments and position size may be variable as well as fixed; and if it goes in one direction for too long, defensive strategy can be used (slowly rebuying high or decreasing positions when it gets out of comfortable zone, hedging, playing with support/resistance  etc. .. use your imagination, its not crucial to get in close to bottoms or sell close to top). But of course, when/if it gets to the point when i have optimal funds for trading, BTC profits will go into offline wallet.

Many holders here have lots of bitcoins because -years ago- you/they did what I didnt. And interestingly, im not envious at all. There is no problem to get back on track in this phase. Its not too late yet.

Yes I agree, silver and I reckon gold etc could be in for a massive rise at any stage soon. The dollar is due a real run and not everyone will back bitcoin. It goes without saying that btc will reach more dizzying heights.
I've always found one of the problems with pms is their very physicality. You get to hold an oz of silver, and what's it 'worth'? 20 seems about right, but 400, for this? Dunno.
You bet. now when banks own 20% of all gold, it will likely be pumped. r0ach will be happy.. (really)?

Yes, that's the hilarious part.  The last time there was a Bitfinex scare and everyone KNEW they were a fraud, Bitfinex DOUBLED DOWN on fraud.  They knew everyone would convert everything to BTC to try and withdraw, so what do they do?  They pumped BTC on their own exchange right beforehand to make sure everyone is forced to buy the bitcoins at TOP DOLLAR HAHA.  That's how big of crooks everyone affiliated with that exchange is.
by this logic, they would have to significantly pump every coin on their exchange now. Thats not easy when most of these coins are traded on other large exchanges too.,

Quote from: AlexGR on January 28, 2018, 01:57:14 PM
Personally I don't see much of a difference between tethers and "real" dollars displayed on an exchange after you sell btc or a shitcoin. I mean they are both virtual until you get the money on your hand. Many insolvent exchanges showed dollar balances that weren't reflecting the reality of the USD holdings of the exchange, whether it was MtGox or more recent ones.

So no matter if it says "USD balance" / "EUR balance" / "CNY balance", "USDT balance" or even "BTC balance", it always has a risk when you are dealing with an exchange.
Good point. Actually its the same with whole real world banking industry. When we log in to our internet banking apps, all we can see is just a number. But can we all withdraw or spend that today? No. Not a chance if too many people do it at the same time.

What worries me about tether the most is not that it may not be fully covered by real dollars, but that it might be dangerously close to what central banks are doing. ANd we all know, that banks are not too happy when someone else is taking their money printing/fractional reserve monopoly away from them. Especially when they cannot control it.

I was completely agreeing with you until your last sentence. Why do you think that they can´t control it?
They can easily shut down Tether using the same tactic that the US authorities used against
E-Gold (of course the central banks won´t do it themselves, they will let the usual authorities do their
bidding).

Take a look at my earlier post where I described how the Department of Justice and the
Treasury Department simply changed their definition of a money transmitter to a vague definition
that fits literally every business that is somehow related to money transfers.

Quote
However, in its actions from 2006-2008, the U.S. Treasury Department in conjunction with the
United States Department of Justice stretched the definition of money transmitter in the USA Patriot Act
to include any system that allows transfer of any kind of value from one person to another, not merely national
currency or cash
I meant they cannot control issuance of tether by themselves, and yeah thats why they will likely push for crackdown.
i dont remember e-gold much, but i know about how they took down liberty reserve. Suddenly "domain seized" landing website appeared and it was gone. People were able to file claims for their money though.

Somewhat related, I downloaded the decentralized exchange, bisq.

It's pretty interesting in that you can see the amount of trades daily. US dollar trades are around 15 per day.

I went ahead and set up a sell order in baht for my gf to test it out in Thailand. Set it at 10% though so no bites.

It's not that great but at least a start.
Looks interesting, I'll have a closer look at it over the weekend.
I really hope decentralised exchanges will improve and take off, as the risk of hacks scams and raids on current exchanges is pretty high + likely fractional reserve on most of largest ones ;
there is much higher chance of losing coins due to this than by bad trading.

I noticed something on this thread.

The big and medium bitcoin stacks holder that are posting here for years turned to be talking like this now:

1/ When bitcoin is dumping very hard = they post about bitcoin price in a very conservative bearish mode + less posts.

I think its normal when one is holding asset which value is substantially increasing (/decreasing)

Quote
2/ ... The rich bitcoiners here talks very hard about jews, then silver, then jews, then silver.. and other bullshit topics ( thats the good manners of the rich bitcoiners).
I dont think r0ach is rich bitcoiner. I've read here, that he dumped all his bitcoins when they were still very cheap for metals. and now he is sour because of that :0

This one clearly says what is happening right now. Euro is desperately trying to get away from the USD. Trying to be more valuable than it but it is not (cannot) happening because they are practically the same thing.

When this is over, all will be 1:1. (a straight line)

it's a money thing..those that have and those that do not...money and power concentrate...at least in uncontrolled 'crony capitalism' of the

18th century and standard oil and the Rockefellers etc....seems it is doing so quite rapidly again this decade as well...there will be backlash IMHO,

as it has 'swung' too far ..but we will see...

.. and if/when the big reset comes, there will be golden era for bitcoin and cryptos in general..

all it takes is one or few bit developed countries slowly moving towards gigantic wealth redistribution.
I cant imagine governments doing it without massive tax on rich or outright nationalization of private property and companies. + hyperinflation to cancel debts. (like Venezuela today, with some 50% weekly inflation) There were many examples in the past and its sure it will be repeated again and again.

I thought it was very easy to spot bottoms on the left side of the chart. But the right side is the most problematic area for me Grin
its just probabilities game. and it can be additionally  improved by trading style. The best part is, one dont need to be right most of the time to win.

depends on your trading system. imo its not the time to go all in [yet] if you buy, keep some cash to buy more in case it gets lower.

down there, there might be no bottom, but rather huge holes to different prices depending on exchange. (margin call levels, where the sharks will get the most bitcoins for cheapest price from poor leveraged bulls)

The influx of noobs in this thread (aka alts) is usually a sign that we’re at or near the bottom (they’re desperately trying to trick weak hands into selling by declaring imminent dumps).

Let’s see how it plays out.

yeah lets hope the bottom is close.
I dont like this slow, almost non recovery after such dump. We should jump up soon, before the week's end, or get ready for longer period of consolidation and perhaps test of the 2018 lows

Or maybe this market slow down is just because of Thanksgiving holidays, black friday shopping etc..
If you are observing this day, have a tasty juicy turkey with your families and dont worry about btc price every minute. it will come back sooner or later.

Same chart zoomed out showing bear line.  Purple line is long term support from cryptowinter which we broke (ahead of schedule) before our latest drop.  We really should have waited until December before breaking it.

yup, looks still a bit bearish, but close to exhaustion at least for now.
btw litecoin has already arrived to her "light blue line' during last run. I dont want to use it as leading indicator, but i take a look time to time for clues what to expect at major support lines.
And i hope bitcoin will stay at least one significant support level above ltc, so my potential minimal all-in level is between 2500-3000. but i'll buy some before that. even now im starting to have this fomo feeling

O.k?  Why we use finex as our BTC price reference point?

If it is not above $4k bitstamp, then why would it matter if it above $4k finex?

I guess being above $4k finex would assume being above $3,800 bitstamp or maybe $3850-ish?
coz i bought it there; yes that would be about 3800 stamp. but it didnt come back overnigt..
..so, what about some end-of-the-weekend pump? :p

Thinking we're due for a small pullback.

If Gemini allowed for shorting, I would likely contemplate taking on a small short position at this point, with the funds that I'm fucking around with on there.
something is definitely changing on the market. most of the alts are going down against bitcoin today. looks like profit taking may have started there. the question is if it will push bitcoin higher yet, or hedging/profit taking takes place in btc too.
but shorting seems to be too risky to me, at least for now

re that facebookcoin thingie...
basing on what i read...did not read the white paper yet...

They said that it is 'backed' by currencies and/or gov bonds, but the question is to what proportion.
If it anything less than 1:1, then they are acting like a bank without being officially a bank (no bank license).
French already raised a question about it.
The question of sovereignty also came up.
in any way, crypto backed by debt is as disgusting as fiat 1:1 or not :p
.. and its shaping up as something from r0ach's nightmare.

So my computer has some extra hard drive space, running Linux. Are there any cool blockchain projects that actually do some cool things (other than ICO and disappear) that I can play around with? I'm thinking like Maidsafe. But I just checked their site and they're in Alpha after over a decade of development.

I know most ICOs basically made a bunch of money up front and bought lambos and moved on. Any decent ones?

I'll likely install NMC just to browse some .bit websites. Maybe play around with IPFS.
Im curious, are there actually any good  .bit websites nowadays?
its been years since i lost nearly all NMCs in bitparking hack. i remember i even bought few .bit domains.. Smiley i thought nmc would have brighter future back then. But it was long before massive shitcoins boom.
It seems to be mostly forgotten now.

The disparity in sentiment continued, as price dipped briefly back down into four figures, the CSO of Binance was predicting a rally to $100k. Thankfully that dip didn’t last long, and Bitcoin price seemed to find a floor at $10k. In fact, if this might be the last opportunity to ever buy Bitcoin for less than $10,000.

i have no problem with putting it into escrow. it would have to be some long-term reliable one though.
