Whales should strike in the morning (in a few hours) if they want to keep the rising momentum.
If the whales have any intention to buy and hold, they would let this fear build up. That leads to more asks and a lower price. But not too long, as then we would correct down quite a lot.
They're fighting over very few coins. They can either wait and hope for a pullback or eat up the 10's of thousands available..now.

Just wait for the news, serious journalists like the WSJ have already been getting briefed but cannot write about it yet, which should come out around the last week of September. Additionally, this fall there will be probably 6+ 'big names', like
Richard Bove or
Chamath Palihapitiya [starting at 19:15], in the investment community that will come out in favor of Bitcoin and that will cause a lemming like effect.
And the private wealth managers out of Asia are stacking Bitcoins away as the new favorite asset class. Many of the HNWI family offices will not make an investment in the sub-$25-50m range. So, when Bitcoin melts up then it is going to be free range for a lot of these ultra-rich Asia families to move in.
If about $1m of new capital moves the price $9 then just imagine what $500m-$1B of new capital flowing into this asset class would do to the price. Especially if that $500m requires 'clean bitcoins' from a known source of funds. The making of a 'melt-up' in price to a much more fundamentally sound valuation since Bitcoins are largely undervalued given their characterstics (no counter-party risk, cannot be seized and equity based like gold).
This is going to be a wild ride this fall. So strap yourselves in and let's kick the tires and light the fires!
It's times like this that I wish I wasn't sworn to secrecy. There's a few others here that know exactly what's in the pipeline.

I might not write on this thread very often but I've been following it since about page 150 and have read plenty of his posts, I couldn't agree with you more.
Seriously! How does one become a well reprective member of this community after only having registered in April, 2013, and considering the following, which just so happens to coincide with the topic on hand?
So I have been selling my Casascius Coins on ebay and today I get a notice from paypal that my account has been placed on "limited activity" until I provide proof of my business intentions, my AML policy (anti money laundering) and other such documents that I do not have and will never be able to provide. So I am stuck on hold with about $5,000 locked up until someone decides that Casascius Coins are "collectible coins" as I have stated and they are from my own personal collection and I am not acting on behalf of any company. Or until they decide that I am actually acting as a Money Service Business in which case I will be locked down until I can provide all of the required documents.
I honestly can not wait until Bitcoin is they preferred way to pay for transactions.

It's okay Mike, I did that for a couple years in the stock market. I refer to the money lost as the tuition for my investment training. It was expensive, but I got a comprehensive course in everything you shouldn't do.
It's akin to learning hold'em, where the general consensus is the tuition fee is ten grand on average, of which I probably paid close to that before becoming a winning player.

I once heard about a student trader who had reversed the "buy" and "sell" buttons on his trading station to overcome that mind-set.

No it's not worth it when you can't get your cash out of Gox. When the price difference was $10-$15 one can buy on bitstamp, sell on Gox and wait for a convergence such as this to sell back as I have had, but since the depth on bitstamp is pathetic, you basically end up back where you started. Waste of time...
What are the chances that major Bitcoin vendors liquidate their bitcoins at Mt Gox, but use BItStamp (or a near average) when they price their products/service?

in a previous life i investigated forum posts for a company. Based on their posts, and there were several, and without access to web logs or any IP address or their email I was able to identify every single one of them. People are stupid and talk to much, use same alias everywhere. If you have the time is very easy to track people down, google is your friend

Anyone know what's the deal is with Coinbase? Their price is running about $25 over bitstamp right now, which is by far the furthest I've seen them spread. Usually they're pegged right within a dollar or two of stamp as that's where they do all their orders from (at least, that was the common assumption). Very odd that they've been sitting between 695-700 while stamp hovers around 670-675.
Anyone know what's going on there?
I'll take a stab at the question. All the traders from Mt Gox, now flush with cash due to the immediate transfer of funds from... Allow me to answer the question later when I put a little more thought on the subject.

That is the dumbest answer I've seen from you yet.
As much as it annoys me that you keep introducing new reasons of why bitcoin is not for you whenever an argument shows that it is not a black and white answer and bitcoin could have merit I do value that this discussion is taking place with solid arguments.
The potential for getting rich is a reflection of the high risks you are actually pointing out.
Bitcoin could be replaced by some other crypto currency.
All the points you are making are the reasons why bitcoins current value is what it is and why it might be magnitudes more once they are resolved.
Just like you many many people are saying the risk is too high.
Please don't put words into my mouth. I have never said that bitcoin is not for me. I have earned quite a buck with investing in bitcoin. The disagreement comes where I don't see that bitcoin has a very long future infront of it. I see about a year or maybe two.
And I have been telling if the problems with the current market threat is resolved, then the price can go up.
It seems that if you don't agree with the constant shouts of "now this is the bottom and it will go up!" or arguments like "bitcoin will be used for decades to come!" then people here will actually start to demonize you, with acting like you are saying things that you have never actually said.

That's 16 different exchanges in 16 different countries, none of which were linked to one another, and all having separate incorporation papers in their respective countries. Mt Gox (USD) just happened to be the largest one that we're all familiar with, but they all went dark at the same time.
