Coinjar the Australian market maker is out of coins.

Orders are queued. Australia is buying.

My orders were queueing earlier in the week as well at Coinjar, they seem to replenish them fairly quickly though, longest wait for coins has been around 12 hours

That's pretty much my point too. I see a lot of posts here with screenshots of Bitcoinwisdom with randomly drawn lines but not so much explanation/detail/Actual TA behind it... Usually the lines are simply placed in a manner that supports the poster's sentiment.

I'd like to know who everyone thinks does the best TA here (or on Tradingview etc) because I don't really have time to sort the wheat from the chaff myself...

That's quite lazy (although at least honest) and short-sighted: ask that question in here, and you'll get 10 different answers. Now you're faced with the same problem: who do you trust to give you a good recommendation about who's best at TA.

That said, watch out for masterluc (posts infrequently recently) and TERA. Both are rather bearish at the moment, draw your own conclusions from that.

Thanks, I do enjoy Tera's posts and will keep an eye out for masterluc in the future.

I've been lurking here for some time now and am a long term hodler (I've been mining and buying and hodling since 2011) - so I have been through a LOT just like the rest of you.

There are many who post good, reasoned, solid TA, but to be honest there's also a lot of crap posted here that I just skim past.

So call it laziness if you will, but I'm extremely time-poor, I run a business and have a family and other responsibilities in my life so I can't spend my days staring at charts on screens/photoshopping CCMF pics and making bets about the size of my eWang.

Why on Earth would i pay for food and drinks with BTC. Maybe in big american and western world cities you pay for everything with smartphone chips and cards but that doesnt work so well in the rest of the world. Say, there is vending machine in Kenya (Africa), its hot and you are thirsty, with what do you pay for the Cola inside of the locked vending machine? (no electricity, vending machine is operated by 2m tall black gorilla with a key)

You would use local currency (the Kenyan Shilling), cold hard cash. Bitcoin will never replace cash.

Imaging this though - what about if after landing in Kenya & picking up your baggage and clearing customs etc, you could stroll straight past all the money exchanger booths to a Bitcoin ATM and withdraw local currency - saving huge $$ in fees and getting a fair rate of exchange. You also avoid having to carry this cash while in transit, meaning it can't be lost or stolen...

This is why Bitcoin ATMs in major tourism locations such as Whistler, Canada (http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/23mcdt/cash_out_bitcoin_in_47_seconds_bitcoin_atm_in/) are so important to the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies (imo).

Always good to be reminded about security. Particuarly as many probably still have fiat / BTC on exchanges right now. I recently pulled half of what I had off and thats going in cold storage until $2-3k or a definate money making window!

Yeah only us. People have to start spending to incentivize them to continue. Believe it or not it's now cheaper to buy via coin base than with cc... if you have a fully verified coin base account that is. SO GET SPENDING. Even if you pay USD go USD to BTC to buy... it's actually cheaper that way.

3 months ago I would have thought of this as a fantastic "last chance" buying opportunity, now I'm not so sure.

I'm in for the long haul for sure (see story below)

When I say my avg buy-in price, that is disregarding all the BTC I have mined, and that I have gained (and lost) through dabbling in some alts (made some nice profits out of DRK and others but only hold BTC and XMR at the moment).

BTC would need to go much lower before I start to make a paper loss - if it DOES go much lower though I'm not sure I will invest any more money into crypto - but I will hold all the same. Probably.  Smiley

So... Wanna hear a story seeing as everyone else is tucked away in bed?

Too bad here it comes...

I actually got into Bitcoin way back when it was easy to mine with CPU, managed to mine myself a nice little haul of BTC. Low triple figures - but a nice haul at today's rate (even still). Was working in IT support for a large engineering firm and had a lot of spare PCs lying around and lots of spare desks and power points, and a boss that didn't know his arse from his elbow, so I told him I was building/testing a new SOE (lulz)

Then it spiked to ~ $20+ and I got hooked big time, transferred fiat to Gox (before they needed your dox) - bought some at $28 (I think), bought another PC - then it crashed. and stagnated for what seemed like a very long time... I eventually lost faith sold all of them at around $7 each, and bought a snowboard and bindings with the profits and had some spare money for beers etc. Happy days.

Then it spiked again and I could have paid for my whole holiday. Shit...    Time to start mining again.

Then it spiked again to over 1K and I could have paid for everyone's trip.... Facepalm....   Time to get serious mining/trading alts etc.

So anyway - I'm determined not to lose the faith this time, even if I end up with egg on my face at the end of the day.

So, it sounds as if through the passage of time you made some profits with your BTC, but frequently you cashed out early... Accordingly, frequently, you were NOT very well invested in BTC during various BTC price spikes.

So, currently, what is your approximate BTC holdings and what is your approximate price per BTC... including various administrative/transaction costs??

Absolutely. I just got out too early.

EDIT: just checked it was end of Oct 2012 and I actually got $11 AUD each for my coins.

I could have bought that snowboard with other funds, but I lost faith in Bitcoin and decided that I should just sell all of what I had and at least get something out of the exercise.

Then I forgot about Bitcoin (had a normal life you might say) until about halfway into the run up to the ~$250 peak - I started up mining using my own electricity and also sent some fiat to Gox around the time it went through $100 for the first time. So that's when I first started actually incurring any costs.

Of the coins I purchased from exchanges, my avg buy price is over $400 AUD. I have another, much fatter, wallet with coins from alt trading/mining, gambling winnings, etc that really only cost me my time. I also bought a BTC mining contract from CloudHashing that (with prices this low) has not returned on the initial investment.

Surely each of us has his/her own inclinations when it comes to keeping track of financial specifics, and I personally created an excel spreadsheet to keep track of a large number of variables in respect to each BTC that I transact (buy, sell or trade), that way I have a running tally on my price per BTC for each transaction and also overall running average prices per BTC on any particular date.   Surely, if you have acquired some BTC (even a majority of BTC) for zero or NO costs, then that is going to considerably bring down your average cost per BTC.

I am NOT mining, but surely if I were mining, I would add into my excel spreadsheet any costs associated with mining, including electricity costs, and/or machinery and/or accessories costs.

So far, whenever I have purchased anything with BTC, I have kept track of those purchases within my excel spreadsheet, but I have also engaged in purchasing behavior in order to preserve the size of my BTC holdings (in other words, so far, due to my BTC replacement practice, my BTC purchases have NOT caused my BTC holdings' quantity to go down.. NOT so far).

It dragged on and on, the trolls were having an absolute field day. Sound familiar? I'm ashamed to admit that the trolls got the better of me I lost faith and sold my entire stash under ~$11each

I SHOULD have put my coins in cold storage, stepped away from the keyboard, lived my life, and not wasted so much time and energy on it. So, that's what i'm doing this time. I can think of a few others that would benefit from the same advice.

Yeah me too. I bought some more yesterday, even with the Aussie dollar down so much compared to last time I bought AND in spite of the fact that us Aussies are now forced to pay 10% tax (GST) on top of exchange fees when buying. Due to these factors I ended up paying around $420 AUD per coin, but I'm happy with that (for now at least).

I agree, and will therefore refrain from commenting on any altcoin posts. But I do would like to emphasize that this discussion, small as it is, is being fanned by the sheer ignorance of quite a few Bitcoiners here. This provokes a response, which in turn provokes another less-reasoned emotional response, and so forth.

I am completely ignorant about the beliefs of Jehovah Witnesses, I have no interest in what they espouse. I don't go around to their houses on a Sunday morning handing out propaganda about atheism, so I get REALLY pissed off when they come to my house and try to recruit myself and my family to their cause (which, like all religions, requires a steady influx of new stooges to ensure their ongoing financial viability).

Just because some people are ignorant about a particular topic, doesn't mean they need to be enlightened. Especially here, in our "home", the BTC/USD Wall Observer thread.

Speaking from experience, academic work won't bother you much after a 5 year cycle. Professors just copy paste after that. The good ones may extend the cycle up to the decade. That's it.

In your experience would it be frowned apon if it was being done during "work hours" or on campus? Do most profs have a pretty open schedule, do they have the licence to do pretty much whatever they want?

Logged on here for the first time in ages, mainly for the lulz because I knew there would be all sorts of douche-baggery going down, and I wasn't disappointed.

I'm not sure what's worse.

All the beartrolls stroking themselves in sadistic pleasure to the tune of "The Song that Doesn't End", OR the pathetic bleating of those with little foresight and very short memories?

"Should I sell?" FFS people grow a fucking sack and make a decision for yourselves for once. Don't defer to a bunch of random idiots on a forum who, on the whole, wouldn't have a fucking clue, should be doing something more productive with their time, and are just talking (SHOUTING) their own books...

Ahhhh....  hang on, I actually do know what's worse... I know that as soon as we start to see a decent BTC rally it will be all train pics, CCMF, dead bears etc.

At least the bear-trolls have the decency to fuck off back into their holes during bullish periods though, so that's something to look forward too I guess..?

Fuck you everybody, good night. See you all in another 6 months.

This might be a bull-trap, but if it isn't I just hope the banks will process my transfer in a timely manner. I spent on bitcoin about as much time as I spent following the cold fusion saga, in the late 1980s, which I did not believe in either.  Why is that strange?  There are people who devote a lot more time studying scams and religions that they don't believe in.  There are people who know all Start Trek episodes by heart, and of course they don't believe in them either.

I myself spent a lot more time studying the Voynich manuscript. Unlike many of my voynichologist colleagues, I do not think that it contains anything important (but i am convinced that it is not random text, either).

Why is that strange? I guess because I lead a very busy life. I run a business (nothing to do with crypto).

I'm lucky to have 1-2 hours a day (including weekends) to devote to frivolous endeavours. I guess I'm just surprised that you, with your position and credentials, have so much time to devote to BitCoin.

Sounds like you need a better hobby.

Hey! We insomniacs try, but trading 24/7 is really, really hard!

Haha I agree with you. I did a 60 hour stint during the Gox/Willy pump - pretty much just in wonder at what was happening, waiting in anticipation of the next .gif on bitcoinity.org as it punched through barrier after barrier.

On the way down I was usually only getting around 3-4 hours sleep in stretches - less if my price alarms woke me. Smiley

If history is our guide, in this sideways market we should wait for a big dump in the daily chart which is reversed instantly. Then we will be off to the horses.

Could take months to happen.

History rarely repeats, but rhymes instead.

i loooove coming here and having people to share the euphoria with.

i know no one irl who gives a flying shit about bitcoin.

i'm all "isn't it great?!?"

one friend has been saying the following phrase to me since january 2013:

"i really need to get some bitcoins"

Funny you're mentioning this... I noticed recently, say, within the last 6 months to a year, that some of the friends who I told about Bitcoin / my position / my trading, and who were either (a) disinterested or (b) extremely critical of it, have recently been a lot more mellow about the entire thing.

Few are enthusiastic (that's fine), but there seems to be much less of the earlier "Why would anyone want a payment system not based on government issued money?" and "It's so volatile, even if the idea is great, it's hopeless", and more a sense of, well, acceptance. "It's there, not sure what to do with it, but I guess it's not going away.", roughly.

I usually give $5-10 worth to anyone I know who seems interested.

Gave a few friends and family members some paper wallets early on as presents, mainly to show, not tell what I was interested in at the moment. Occasionally the conversation goes back to these, but so far, no "Am I a rich yet?" questions. Once that'll happen, I know it's time to get ready for a trade Wink

I've tried to extol the virtues of BTC to anyone who would listen IRL the past few years, these past few months though it seems a lot of those people did actually listen - but very few of them acted.

One did act though, made a one off purchase in April 2015. With a combo of AUD tanking vs USD, plus the recent BTC rally - he's pretty happy at the moment.

my only question right now regards how much longer china can remain tolerant of people using bitcoin to get around the capital controls.

Good question.

I've seen the argument put forth (Andreas perhaps?) that China will ultimately be unable to ban bitcoin, because enforcement takes place at the local level, and local police can be bribed. Imagine being a clandestine miner siphoning power illegally from a power plant in China, being told by a local enforcer you have to stop. Unless you give me half your bitcoin. Mined using free (stolen) electricity. What's gonna happen? The enforcer is going to HELP the miner steal the power.

I'm not sayin' that a Chinese ban wouldn't be bad for the price, at least short term. I'm just sayin' ... bitcoin is too far out of Pandora's box to put back in place, and maybe, just maybe, the relevant Chinese PTB know this.

There must have been people who sold at $140 at the start of the 2013 rally because the price had quickly doubled up from $70. Afterwards the best chance of buying back in they would get is at about $200 over a year later.

I don't want to talk about how many I sold at $3 because the price had tripled.  I was going to be making huge profits on my GPU mining at $1, so there was no way $3 was sustainable.   Cry

Sold my entire GPU mining stash at around $11 in 2011. I needed a new snowboard back then.

Still have that old board in my bag, I've upgraded since, it's the one I let my friends ride rather than them having to hire a board. I tell them it's worth over $100K AUD now.

One of these things is not like the others. A holder/trader who made some fucking excellent calls and then decided to just hold and not be stressed out all the time like me is a hell of a lot different than a bear troll or a... extremely misguided south american socialist.

Edit: But idk, I've been OOTL here a bit. Tera didn't do anything stupid did he?

Yeah fair call on Tera - he (or she, thought Tera was a lady? Not that it matters...) was always on the bearish side, but analysis was usually pretty sound and to his/her credit usually "showed her work"/reasons for making the calls.

NLC and Trolfi on the other hand... oxygen thieves

I would say that Wright went this route because he knew that his buddy who died (right around the time Satoshi said he had to leave to do other things) was Satoshi. Knowing this, he could claim to be Satoshi knowing the real Satoshi would never reveal himself. But he doesn't have the private keys. If he did he would have proved he was Satoshi long ago.

On penalty of rehashing old ground, where is the evidence that Kleiman ever was his buddy? Because Wright said or implied so? Wright is the kind of guy who'd read an obituary and tell you he knew the deceased intimately if he thought he could scrounge a penny (imho).

So, remind me again how many Bitcoins Satoshi is supposed to have mined/owns?

In your opinion (and anyone else who wants to add their 2c worth), do you think that Satoshi's private keys will ever be recovered? (assuming he is not around any more).

Satoshi is believed to own about 7.5% of the entire bitcoin inventory, it is roughly 1/13 of all coins.

You people keep spewing these facts "randomly" but for me they are irrelevant! ... "Satoshi" will not dump! Smiley
And I know that for certain because a person that would invent something like this is someone striving for power and he/she is always in a permanent conflict of good and evil, right and wrong or light & darkness. A mind that can do both, a mind that has the power but doing harm or not depends on the circumstance. And I don't see from his/her perspective that doing harm or well being to others or to the world would be something that would leave any feeling behind after said action is performed. He/she seems to be a logical person that seeks a higher power of being.  Cheesy Cheesy

Come on mate, re-read what you just wrote....

You derided people for "Spewing facts randomly" - Sundark said "is believed to" and "roughly"... hardly stating fact.

Then you said "I know for certain" that Satoshi will not dump, when clearly you don't, and then spouted a bunch of stuff that was reminiscent of a religious sermon to back up your assertion.

Nice to see some movement. Let's hope this is a proper leg up. It's about time.

It's about time you get a leg up with a weekly RSI over 70???

You guys don't know what you are talking about.

Also the bullishness here speaks for down movement.

Weekly RSI is supposed to trend above 70

'16 May - Jun -------- weekly RSI > 70 ---- $430 ----> $780

'16 Nov - '17 Jan ---- weekly RSI > 70 ---- $720 ----> $1160

today ----------------- weekly RSI > 70 ---- $1000 --> ...

Using past examples where the RSI went higher than 70 has absolutely no significance. RSI over 70 is overbought period.

Don't have time to get into stupid arguments that waste my time. Leaving again for better and more intelligent places.

When was this broken?
The ATH was $1163 by many accounts back in the 2013. Most attribute this to the mt.gox going to the crapper so to them it does count.
Give exact dates and a source if possible so others can evaluate it for themselves.
Thanks.

Yep.. $1,163 remains the proper number when referring to previous ATH - using other nonsense exchange numbers such as GOX is just dealing with fantasy random numbers..   Sure, we can set various other targets, but when we are referring to or talking about going past previous ATH and discussing the extent of resistance at that price point and whether we have surpassed such previous ATH price point and by how much, we are still talking about $1,163 as our real world reference point.

On the other hand, if we are talking about other random target numbers, then that is another topic.

Whatever the reasons (i.e. MtGox fiasco), $1216.73 is the highest number of USD ever paid* for one bitcoin. Let's just break that during this bull run, and then we can establish a new undisputed ATH.

* [EDIT: on an exchange]

Strawbs summarised it nicely for me.

Even though it "doesn't count" "Gox blah blah", it's still a psychological barrier - we smash through that we are TRULY in new territory.

The energy is being used for a productive purpose, unlike the energy I'm wasting right now reading this thread.

It went all the way down to $1199 at Stamp a couple of days ago. Does that count?  Grin

Someone must have sold for that price.

i have to admit that i sold some, but profit is profit and now i have zero risk.  Wink

I sold a some. Still have some. We are not the bottom by a looooong shot, especially not in AUD.

I sold the coins I bought in 2014, when I was getting close to 1 USD for my Aussie dollar. 1 AUD is now only buying 75c US.

With the current situation still yet to completely play out, who knows whether it will go tits up or not. Like noobtrader, I also have zero risk and my only problem is how much of a taste the taxman wants.

I'm out now except for the first wallet of coins I mined waaaay back when it was still feasible to do so with graphics cards...

The shit is on-route to the fan IMO. Everyone can see it in mid air, everyone can see its trajectory. It might slide through without hitting the blades. It might get splattered all over the walls, floors and ceiling. Either way, it's interesting to watch.

Stamp for USD. Finex obviously is inflated and it doesn't make sense to use a price you can't actually sell at.
Coinfloor for GBP. Strangely prices there are slightly over the odds when converting from USD at the current exchange rate. But since you can really buy and sell real bitcoins for real fiat there, it's a legit price.

Thanks guys. I'm very similar, I ignore Finex and watch Stamp for USD and my local (AUD) vendor Coinjar is always over the odds but its my only convenient option.

I've got a good sized stash of coins that I keep in cold storage, been buying & HODLING for years. I'm happy with my stash & plan to HODL for a good few years yet.

Would love to buy another 10-15 coins though but feels too much of a risk at these prices. Is anybody considering buying more at these prices? When I say more I don't mean 1 or 2.

Don't think I'm going to buy any more unless we go back to around $1000. Seems stupid saying that because I'm pretty sure we'll see $5000 in a couple of years.

Thoughts?

I'm in the same boat, have coins in storage that I'm not touching, and my trading stash which is "play money"

Short term, im not buying... I've sold some of my trading stash, and taking more and more profit as the market gets more and more overbought (but not eating into my cold storage). The cultists don't like this though, and they continue to berate anyone who dares to mention selling/profit taking.

If we do see a correction/RTM, I'll be buying the dip like a mofo.

In the meantime, I'll be sitting here like everyone else, not having a fucking clue where it is going from here.

Oh, and to those who keep harping on about "selling at the bottom", I assume you're all in and still buying? Liquidating any and all assets so you can buy more BTC? ... Because this is the bottom and it's guaranteed to go up from here? hmmm?

Bitcoin has massive utility value. It provides freedom to the user in the face of ever increasing capital controls implemented by the most powerful governments in the world.

Lots of hurdles to overcome before it will achieve mainstream adoption, but that's OK. I'm in for the long haul.

Bitcoin will never achieve "mainstream adoption". The average debt slave doesn't care about freedom.

1 - Explain how it provides freedom from capital controls any more than cold hard cash does? I have BTC and I have travelled extensively, my BTC has been pretty much useless to me abroad. "Dirty fiat" i.e. USD cash money is accepted pretty much everywhere. This is not a criticism of BTC, it just illustrates that we are early in the game.

2 - I'm not a debt slave so I wouldn't know. I own my house and owe nothing to the bank or anyone else, so I guess I'm struggling to understand your point? You say that BTC provides freedom to the user, then say the avg debt slave doesn't care about freedom? I'm confused....
I'm sure any slave, debt or otherwise, has freedom at the front of mind.

Appears we are well into the exponential phase of the bull run. The doubling in the last 30 days means it is well advanced, without a significant correction around these levels (anywhere from here up to 3600) the blow off from here may be only a matter of 3-4 weeks of insane bull left, culminating in somewhere near $9588-10k target of luc's for the blow-off top for this adoption wave. Huge volumes of new money will keep flooding in until the doubling time-scale gets less than the time-scale for new entrants to enter the market (exchange delays, transfer processing delays will all be factors in limiting the ultimate flow rate of new money into the market that sets the lower limit on the final doubling-time scale) .... and then the infrastructure will receive it's best new market signal of what scale of hardware/software/support capacity roll-out it will need to sustain the next adoption wave (circa 2020 halving plus 9-12 months?), given that the size of the market demand is still relatively infinite compared with the current in situ infrastructure necessary to cope with the burgeoning growth of demand now being witnessed.

In the alternate case of a significant correction in the next 2-3 weeks then a new assessment will be warranted.

This was an impressive shakeout.
Reminds me of the one in the week of 18th Nov 2013, it crashed down from a top of 800 to 450, everyone was like: "That's it, it's over guys, bubble has popped."
Then it slowly resumed the climb, at some point the sellers had to buy back in, and this baby went from 450 to 1200  Shocked

A similar scenario might be unfolding right now.
I think this rally is not over yet.

If it does rally again in the same fashion as you are describing, it will also be headed for a large, deep correction (exactly what happened after 1200). What would be "better" would be some sideways for a while.

We both know that won't happen though.

It will be either:

1 - FOMO re-engages, it goes parabolic, then it dumps and we see another protracted bear market. Some people make a mint, more castles are bought, most lose a shit-ton of money and it results in more damage to trust in BTC and crypto as a whole.

2 - This is "Return to Normal", rally loses steam, more dumps but less risk of a long term bear market and much less damage overall.

We'll know in the next 12h I think.

I'm betting on option 2

Anyone else care to place their bets?

I must have missed that one, apols. I don't think short cheerleading statements offer much to a discussion forum is all, nor rocket/train pics etc etc. So I'm glad you at least expanded on your normal contribution here.
