There are many who post good, reasoned, solid TA, but to be honest there's also a lot of crap posted here that I just skim past.

So call it laziness if you will, but I'm extremely time-poor, I run a business and have a family and other responsibilities in my life so I can't spend my days staring at charts on screens/photoshopping CCMF pics and making bets about the size of my eWang.

Imaging this though - what about if after landing in Kenya & picking up your baggage and clearing customs etc, you could stroll straight past all the money exchanger booths to a Bitcoin ATM and withdraw local currency - saving huge $$ in fees and getting a fair rate of exchange. You also avoid having to carry this cash while in transit, meaning it can't be lost or stolen...

I've had an increasing amount on MintPal over the last week (more than I'm comfortable with TBH) during the DRK bubble this past week or so. 3 months ago I would have thought of this as a fantastic "last chance" buying opportunity, now I'm not so sure.

I've been holding all through this one and only bought a little, but I'm honestly not sure I will buy any more if we do go sub 350.

When I say my avg buy-in price, that is disregarding all the BTC I have mined, and that I have gained (and lost) through dabbling in some alts (made some nice profits out of DRK and others but only hold BTC and XMR at the moment).

BTC would need to go much lower before I start to make a paper loss - if it DOES go much lower though I'm not sure I will invest any more money into crypto - but I will hold all the same. Probably.

I actually got into Bitcoin way back when it was easy to mine with CPU, managed to mine myself a nice little haul of BTC. Low triple figures - but a nice haul at today's rate (even still). Was working in IT support for a large engineering firm and had a lot of spare PCs lying around and lots of spare desks and power points, and a boss that didn't know his arse from his elbow, so I told him I was building/testing a new SOE (lulz)

Then it spiked to ~ $20+ and I got hooked big time, transferred fiat to Gox (before they needed your dox) - bought some at $28 (I think), bought another PC - then it crashed. and stagnated for what seemed like a very long time... I eventually lost faith sold all of them at around $7 each, and bought a snowboard and bindings with the profits and had some spare money for beers etc. Happy days.

Then it spiked again and I could have paid for my whole holiday. Shit...    Time to start mining again.

Then it spiked again to over 1K and I could have paid for everyone's trip.... Facepalm....   Time to get serious mining/trading alts etc.


So anyway - I'm determined not to lose the faith this time, even if I end up with egg on my face at the end of the day.

EDIT: just checked it was end of Oct 2012 and I actually got $11 AUD each for my coins.

I could have bought that snowboard with other funds, but I lost faith in Bitcoin and decided that I should just sell all of what I had and at least get something out of the exercise.
 
Then I forgot about Bitcoin (had a normal life you might say) until about halfway into the run up to the ~$250 peak - I started up mining using my own electricity and also sent some fiat to Gox around the time it went through $100 for the first time. So that's when I first started actually incurring any costs.

Of the coins I purchased from exchanges, my avg buy price is over $400 AUD. I have another, much fatter, wallet with coins from alt trading/mining, gambling winnings, etc that really only cost me my time. I also bought a BTC mining contract from CloudHashing that (with prices this low) has not returned on the initial investment.

Yeah I've got a spreadsheet as well (but probably less free time than you   it really needs to be updated) - I know where I'm at, and at what price I will *actually* start worrying.


For me, the brown underpants stay in the drawer until we see the low 200s.

I bought some more yesterday, even with the Aussie dollar down so much compared to last time I bought AND in spite of the fact that us Aussies are now forced to pay 10% tax (GST) on top of exchange fees when buying. Due to these factors I ended up paying around $420 AUD per coin, but I'm happy with that (for now at least).

I sold a some. Still have some. We are not the bottom by a looooong shot, especially not in AUD.

I sold the coins I bought in 2014, when I was getting close to 1 USD for my Aussie dollar. 1 AUD is now only buying 75c US.

With the current situation still yet to completely play out, who knows whether it will go tits up or not. Like noobtrader, I also have zero risk and my only problem is how much of a taste the taxman wants.

Thanks guys. I'm very similar, I ignore Finex and watch Stamp for USD and my local (AUD) vendor Coinjar is always over the odds but its my only convenient option.

If we do see a correction/RTM, I'll be buying the dip like a mofo.

I believe in BitCoin, otherwise I wouldn't be here, but at the moment (IMO) it is still a speculative investment and has little utility value.

Lots of hurdles to overcome before it will achieve mainstream adoption, but that's OK. I'm in for the long haul.

1 - Explain how it provides freedom from capital controls any more than cold hard cash does? I have BTC and I have travelled extensively, my BTC has been pretty much useless to me abroad. "Dirty fiat" i.e. USD cash money is accepted pretty much everywhere. This is not a criticism of BTC, it just illustrates that we are early in the game.

2 - I'm not a debt slave so I wouldn't know. I own my house and owe nothing to the bank or anyone else, so I guess I'm struggling to understand your point? You say that BTC provides freedom to the user, then say the avg debt slave doesn't care about freedom? I'm confused....
I'm sure any slave, debt or otherwise, has freedom at the front of mind.

My primary concern is that when the "perfect" time comes to sell, it might not actually be possible to do so. Exchanges are not as robust as they should be.
My secondary concern is that the dumps might come while I am asleep, most of the action happens when I'm tucked away in bed.

This is why I sold my trading stash, and I'm very content with that decision.

I've been spending today skim reading the last 200 pages of this thread. So entertaining.  

 

Don't ask people here, most of them were telling us this wasn't a bubble, and $10K was just around the corner.

IMO this starts to become buyable @ $1300 and if it gets to sub $1100 I will be filling my boots.

If it does rally again in the same fashion as you are describing, it will also be headed for a large, deep correction (exactly what happened after 1200). What would be "better" would be some sideways for a while.

We both know that won't happen though.

It will be either:

1 - FOMO re-engages, it goes parabolic, then it dumps and we see another protracted bear market. Some people make a mint, more castles are bought, most lose a shit-ton of money and it results in more damage to trust in BTC and crypto as a whole.

2 - This is "Return to Normal", rally loses steam, more dumps but less risk of a long term bear market and much less damage overall.

We'll know in the next 12h I think.
