Don't jump so quick. We will eventually go very low but so far it seems market has some momentul. We'll see the next days.

What is with those weird big dump/buy patterns going on every so often?  Is that just someone strategically clearing around the strike price?

I've been wondering, too.

Attempts to trigger stops? Attempts to stop downward trend? rpietila?

I don't know. comments?

Maybe someone wants to avoid panic, but still want to proice to go down. Just not too fast - controlled demolition

Just 2 occurences? Wait for more to call controlled demolition. But the similarities are intriguing

Well, I aim for 3% increase in BTC volume per day, so since I have just bought the BTC at $112.5, it's not worth cutting my losses at $110, as it will take longer to recover them.
Anyway, the downward trend seems to have lost momentum, and is turning back upwards.

I'm trying to make my initial buy-in of 6.2 bitcoins* into enough to quit work - I'm at 16.7 now, after 2.5 weeks, so eventually I will manage it - if only I can purchase and sell at the right time for once.

I'd rather take my time, and tread carefully. I have slipped back too many times this week (I had 22.5 BTC at one point, then held cash due to a badly timed sell, as it shot up on the 3rd while I was asleep. I tried to recover by buying in late, just as it peaked again - I lost about $500 that day) Sad

The thing is, I have very limited resources, and I really don't think it will drop much below $110 again any time soon, so I'd rather not risk it.

* I bought those (literally) 15 minutes before it plunged from $250....

I hear ya man. I bought in with 5 btc at 183. Then I was in denial the entire time it plunged and didn't sell.

Don't sell. Put them away for 1 year.

My gut is screaming bull trap

My gut is screaming bull trap, bear market, capitulation, and bear trap all at the same time.

Getting mixed signals here.

Once, when asked about his gut feeling, Carl Sagan said: "I'd really rather not think with my gut, my brain does the job a lot better"  Grin

Don't prodigies and athletes use the least amount of brain power? In fact high level operation has often been (curiously) linked to lower brain activity. Perhaps this has something to do with the subconscious. Anyways, I'm sticking to what I thought 10 or so days ago: downtrend.

Edit: that being said... I'm getting super impatient.

This pretty much sums up the market at the moment. Everyone thinks they will be able to get cheaper coins... but the longer they wait, the less likely that becomes. Once the bids exceed the all time high (not far off), I can see a massive spell of panic buying ensuing.

I was thinking the same thing. I see too many people waiting to buy lower and just can't stop thinking.. what if they won't be able to do so.

But also, when so many people think the same, a new low might happen.

best wishes reptilia, but seriously, I don't know what to think about you... you are quite the enigma and I'd rather not be a part of your melodrama.

Despite the fact that about $100k is scammed from me annually, plus I lost 1,100,000mBTC two weeks back and possibly more last week, the following statement is true:

"I have never possessed the private key to any less than 2,400,000mBTC nor any more than 35,000,000mBTC, at any time since the beginning of 2012."

I guess that puts me on the map. I think I was among the wealthiest people in the summit.

Thinking and talking in mBTC it a nice psychological trick to think you're even richer and maybe value 1 coin even more. But I don't think we'll ever use mBTC...

a bubble is never good for the long term health of the bitcoin market, it creates panic sell/buy which will keep most investors and normal people from trusting the coin.

You should not care for the long term health of any market. You should not care for investors and normal people. You should only care for yourself and for here and now and how much profit you can make out of a bubble if it appears.

There isn't a bubble yet.
Thanks for that reminder of how to be a human being.

Being selfishly up to the lower sociopaths limit is a trait of character upon most bitcoiners. And most "rich" guys.

Maybe gox has loyal customers who don't want to use any other exchange. Is that possible? I know that I'm not one of these.

They won't liquidate the coins on an exchange. They will be sold auction-style. Shouldn't impact exchanges too much, unless the buyer decides to move the coins to an exchange.

For sure, not over the exchange and by auction.....But they will need to find people to bid for these 144k coins and given the size, they will be happy to give them away at a discount. These coins will eventually hit the exchange and will influence the price then....

I would be not very confident in holding large amount of coins these days...

What does it feel like to be prepared for forever?  While I agree that $10k is unlikely anytime soon, it is a thousand times more likely than $30.

Hey, look. Every other rally I saw only bullish people screaming "to da moon" and being delusional with new highs. Only for the price to get down really hard.

I find it so funny when people only see what they want to see Cheesy (check out the number of posts in the last couple of pages of this thread saying it is about to crash)!

Show me an ATH or reasonable spike which did not end with a crash? Honestly get a grip, do you think this will some how end different? Tomorrow your going to be the bitcoin millionaire because the price will rise to 100k per coin? Of course it's going to end with a crash, use your mind.

Bitcoin vindicated you from the hustling bankers of the world who treated you like a sheep, and right now the big whales are those hustling bankers, and guess what? your still acting like a sheep! They will dump as they always do and you will be left holding your dick thinking wtf just happened.

Now....as you were...

I liked that. Nice. Exactly, bitcoin is controlled now by some wealthy elites and sheeps are getting to slaughter.

So, they asked to be cancelled and now are selling. Check #mtgox IRC

One could really play the market last few days just on trading hours. It's almost a rule that price goes up when China wakes up and dips when they're ready to hit the bed. Same pattern for days.

But maybe today's different and China won't go to bed, helping us to go to the moon.!

But seriously is LTC more user-friendly than BTC? Because I bought bitcoin for the long-term thinking there is a decent chance it goes mainstream and increase in value.. And I really didnt think there was any other crypto-currency who could compete with it.. LTC maybe a little bit but I wasnt even concerned.. But now that it is raising in value and I hear people saying its more user-friendly I am a little worried lol.

Its the same exact thing except it uses a different encryption, and is everything BTC/4

The whole btc/4 thing is a marketing gimmick too. People automatically assume it will be worth 0.25btc per ltc in the future. But just because I make a coin with 84 million, does not mean my coin is automatically worth 0.25btc

Its raising in value just like other altcoins raise in value, but this is the worst time in history to get into LTC because a dump of vast proportions is about to be witnessed.

Transactions aren't faster at all, transactions are the same speed. The confirmations happen every 2.5 minutes vs BTC's 10 minute. But this does not make it faster. 1 confirmation on the btc network is worth alot more than 3 confirmations on the ltc network.

Thank you for this my friend. Litecoin is clearly in the bubble stage and I don't think litecoin holders are mostly strong hands. I should buy us some beer when it pops.

Not everybody. Still have 40% fiat @ exchanges.
It's allways good to have money to buy dips.

You're losing shitload if you have 40% of your stash in fiat while price go to the moon, then it doesn't much help to buy in dips.

Losing?
No! Probably you don't get it. It's not real profit till you sell. If everyone is going to sell @ 10k, there won't be 10k, rather 1$.

Btw I have a lot more then 40% in fiat/gold/appartments. Bitcoin is just my high risk playmoney. It will never be lifechanging, because I have a better life then 99.99% on earth.

I dont put my future in some genious pyramide scheme. Everbody can change his life without the money of others.

With money you can fund all those things that matter: medical research, philantropics etc. If you're a strong, tough man, you only need a knife for yourself. Food, shelter, etc is not an issue. But you need more than that if you want to help others.

It may be a time when an ounce of your silver will buy bread for the whole neighborhood.

Your belief that your fiat/gold/apartments/BTC holdings makes your life better than 99.99% of the people on earth is pretty indicative of your horizon and take on life, which makes me personally think your life quality is pretty shitty compared to most people with views on life less focused on holdings and money.

+1

I don't know why people with shit load of money think that they win in life, I was raised in a poor family and I had the best childhood and memories, having more money didn't make me happier...

There is a difference between getting born with money or earned it with hard work. I'm the later.
And no, I'm not bosnian or serbian. I'm swiss in the 13th generation > don't have writtings before.

I never had much in my childhood. Had to wear secondhand clothes, but i had a very good time. Food and shelter was never a problem.

Btw: with more money, you can travel a lot. That helps to improve you.
My point is:
You need to do something to earn money.
Just buy a cryptocurrency and hoarding is nothing.
That's wallstreet greed which you all try to flee.

Or is the only purpose here to make a few poor rich? That would really be ironic, becoming what you hate most.

You need money / wealth / silver / gold etc if you want to help other. For yourself, I bet a good knife will do anything: food, shelter, security etc

From the end of November it looks like: Stabilize to 1100 - Dump. Stabilize to 900 - Dump.

Now it's stabilizing at around 600, I wonder what's gonna happen next?

Dump. Then stabilize at $300. Dump. Then stabilize at $1. Dump. Then stabilize at -$60. Dump. Then stabilize at $blackhole.

Wrong. Stabilize to 600 - dump. Stabilize to 300 - dump. Stabilize to 150 - dump. Nothing else to dump - Buy Buy Buy! - Price at insane levels again.

Do you all think that prevalent use of a protocol such as colored coins could make each bitcoin even more rare and thus drive up price beyond the theoretical future valuations we have predicted?

No this goes against  the fungibility (one unit or piece must be perceived as equivalent to any other), the biggest risk to bitcoin ever. New developments in bitcoin like stealth addresses and coinjoin will remove this threat.

What are colored coins and coinjoin / stealth addresses?

This fall is based on nothing tangible at this point.

Gox faltering on the brink
Apple bans blockchain app
Russians planning on outlawing BTC
Huge orchestrated dumping across exchanges
Gox finally shutting down BTC withdrawal

Lots of reasons for this dump today

Oh noes,

Gox faltering on the brink  = exchanges should never had a place in bitcoin economy
Apple bans blockchain app = apple is good only for bondage fanboys, men like to be free
Russians planning on outlawing BTC = Russia doesn't ban anything, they simply kill.
Huge orchestrated dumping across exchanges = of course, that what's happening when you have too much coins in just a few hands
Gox finally shutting down BTC withdrawal = Gox is dead for a year now, only stupid (aka greedy) people use it.

I think it's a technical issue, not a legal one. They almost certainly also have legal problems, but I don't think the loss of access to coins is a legal issue.
I take this from reddit but it's my vue too

IMO the banks have barred access to accounts and deposit boxes due to some injunction with cooperation of the Japanese government, and the gag orders and subpoenas prevent him from saying "boo" about it.

This was a possible explanation posted by someone on this thread. I definitely think a technical issue is more likely.

From reading this chat log (if its authentic) I immediately come to the following conclusions:

They did not have a cold wallet, it was one huge hot wallet, implemented by MT.
Occasionally it lost (or failed to store correctly or deleted¹) private keys of its own change outputs ('not "lost" just yet, just temporarily unavailable')
He seems to believe the keys are still there somewhere buried deeply somewhere in his database server ('We haven't given up')

_____________________
¹) This is how I imagine their wallet worked (and how it fucked up):

User initiates withdrawal:

* debit amount from user account
* generate new private key for change address and create tx
* store tx in database (indexed by txid)
* store private key in database (indexed by address, foreign_key=txid)
* push tx to network

a week later (cron job)

* for all unconfirmed tx older than 1 week:
*     credit BTC back to customer account
*     delete "invalid" tx
*         -> cascaded delete "unused" change address and its private key (ouch!)

run 2 years until wallet is dry, all supposed UTXO turn out to be STXO and all real UTXO are in nirvana already.

'

Dude you made me laugh! Not because of your explanation, which is brilliant, but because lots of people entrusted their coins to some incompetent, PHP-does-it-all fatso.

158. Post 7455105 (copy this link) (by wobber) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_12.54h):

If I were to buy 25,000 coins in one day, like today, on a single exchange (Bitstamp) I'd push the price too high. Bitstamp has sell orders of about 15k BTC up to $1250, for example.

I presume someone could buy 25k if one uses at least 3 exchanges (Bitstamp, daily volume 4000 BTC; Bitfinex, daily volume 4800 BTC; btc-e, daily volume 3000 BTC souirce: http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/). If you were to use just 10% of total volume daily (12800 BTC), which means 1280 BTC bought per day, would mean that you need 20 days to accomplish your goal without moving the market that much. And during that time the price could go up up up.

So, I'm asking myself: would the bidders offer $650 per coin? That would be a nice dollar cost average, since you cannot really buy 29k in a batch.

Anyhow, 2 questions:

1. can anyone confirm that the US Marshalls won't sell a batch of 29k BTC to a single bidder, but smaller batches to multiple bidders? I can't really tell from the auction listing.

2. would the auction act like a primer of a panic rally?

The July 24th date is 234 days after the previous bubble, which was 234 days after the previous bubble, etc.  There is a guy on Reddit who spent months telling everyone we were going to the moon on exactly that date, not one day earlier, not one day later.

When he started getting laughed at, he made his own subreddit, and moved there.  The last that I read, he turned from superbull to superbear because his prediction was wrong which he thinks proves that the bitcoin bubble trend is dead.

I am expecting the price to jump a few percent on the 23rd or early 24th because he publicized it so much, for so long.

If he said July 24th, how come the prediction was wrong?
