It's not the first time blockchain.info has been down for a prolonged period. While they have awesome UI and reports, it seems like their stability and disaster recovery is letting them down. Not a good sign for the bitcoin ecosystem if the flagship website can't be relied upon especially in the era of distributed cloud based systems.

To be fair there are plenty of block explorers and blockchain.info isn't even my favorite one, its hardly not a good sign for the ecosystem of Bitcoin if a website goes down, don't be so dramatic.

Blockchain.info is a block explorer and a bitcoin wallet with more than 1.5 million users.

So!? You control the private keys, no ? If your relying on third party services to the point where an hour or so of down time has you running in circles and panicking then your doing it wrong. Even worse if your worried they're stealing your funds then why on earth use it in the first place. I just don't get this, Bitcoin has given us a way to not have to trust third parties and the first thing everyone wants to do is start giving their coins to third parties, when will people learn.

I control the private keys of my blockchain.info hot wallet and i don't have a big part of my bitcoins in this wallet. But i am not sure it is the case of 1.5 million users. I am sure a lot of them are not able to get their bitcoins if the site is down.

Bedtime for me, now.

I just bought 10BTC, and maybe I will buy another 10 in the morning... or maybe later in the day... depending upon how I feel... At this point, I would rather see down, rather than up, but my 10BTC hedges in the event that prices go up while I am sleeping.

Each time I send some fiat to my favorite exchange, I can't wait more than 2 days before converting it to bitcoin. Always afraid of price skyrocketing before I buy. It seems I am not the only one.

I found a solution, if the trend is bearish, I make a trailing order.

What are your predictions for this week? Will we hit $700?

Consolidation during the whole month of June. And then price skyrockets to 5000$.

So far, I have been buying through Coinbase, which seems to be the cheapest solution for me to obtain BTC.  So far, Coinbase does NOT allow the creation of orders, otherwise I would create orders in order that I do NOT need to watch the price so much in attempt to time my buys.

I buy on kraken, fees are 0,20% and withdraw is 0,0005btc. This is cheap. But I am in eurozone and they have volume, not sure USD volume is sufficient to make good buys.

From your description, those fees seem better than what Coinbase has been providing.  Coinbase is 1% to buy BTC and 1% to sell.  Plus $.15 per transaction.

Coinbase's prices are also usually within a few dollars of the Bitstamp price, and frequently, it seems impossible to take advantage, exactly, of the most extreme BTC price fluctuations of Bitstamp b/c of the seemingly delayed responsiveness of Coinbase's pricing.

I am looking forward to receiving an invitation from Circle.com, and to see how that plays out.  Since they are proclaiming to have zero transactional fees, it will be interesting to see what kinds of restrictions that they are going to put in place in order to disincentivize China-type high volume and frequent trading.

I checked on kraken web site (https://www.kraken.com/help/fees-and-pair-info#XXBTZUSD) and fees are higher fort USD (0.30%) than fort euros (0.20%).

Yup. They can kiss my ring piece. It's Kraken for me from now on. You only have to be verified, like, once.

Does kraken have a sufficient volume in USD ? I use it for euros, and it is ok, but as its business is mainly in euro, i was wondering if it is ok with usd.

Most large cities in most developed countries at least have Bitcoin ATMs and many have thriving Bitcoin communities where you can buy bitcoins directly from enthusiasts at Bitcoin centers or meet-ups.

I was talking of coinbase. I don't know where they buy bitcoins when they don't have enough. I know how to do it for myself.

The shape is similar but the magnitude, volume, and position within the trend are not.

I think it is almost exactly the same position in the trend. It's only up from here.

It's not the same position because we were in the progress of doing the initial breakdown correction rather than break upwards. The weekly MACD wasn't even green, whereas in 2013 the weekly MACD had already been green for two candles. Also, we have yet to even test the major resistance at $850. Yes, there are two resistances in 2014 vs one in 2013.

Well you can't expect a perfect similarity of course, but the similarities are there and the effect could well be the same as in that this event could kickstart a bigger rally next. A correction was overdue but the market was procrastinating like a bored teenager, and now the FBI gave the market the kick in the butt it needed to get the correction going so it can finally move on. Tongue The trend was up and I don't think this is going to stop the 1w MACD from crossing upwards, it will imo most likely accelerate the process the market was going to go through anyways just like the SR crash did.

Forget 'perfect match': this is no match at all: The proportions on the long term charts are nothing alike and the volume ratios tell all. This is not some kind of abnormal flash crash - this is a normal intiial market correction after a rally which was preciptated by an irrelevant catalyst.

Absolutely agreed. Not that I consider the 2013 SR flash crash abnormal either, but the volume tells a different story now than back then.

If I had to put it in numbers: I'm 80% certain we are *not* on the verge of the super exponential leg of a new ath rally.

The climb out of the bear valley will however resume soon, I believe. Just not "straight up" like last year.

And nothing serious will happen before the 27th, waiting to know the price us marshals sell the 30000btc.

What is a 'weak hand'? Why is this type of penny stock terminology used in bitcoin? Does this imply that bitcoin is some type of investment scheme to hold rather than a currency to use?

Weak hands are people who buy because they see btc as a "quick get rich" scheme but don't understand power of Bitcoin technology. If they don't get rich very quickly, they lose trust and they sell.

Guys please stop getting mad at me for posting charts of how a downwards scenario would play out.  My charts are mostly geared towards swing traders and daytraders so they would know where good trading points are if certain scenarios play out, where to find support and resistance, and how to watch for a breakout. NONE of my postings just tell people to sell their bitcoins now. In fact, for people who don't want to bother with trading, I recommend a long term holding strategy, as I am very bullish on a 2-5 year perspective and think that $10,000+ could be reached.

I know i will lose money if i trade, so i just hold. I have a plan for trading 25% of my btc during next bubble, but that's all, i will never try to do day trading. I just hold.

Should I sell BTC before US auction of btc begins or should I hold ?
If you cannot decide on your own what to do or whom to follow, then do nothing. Presumably there is a reason that you bought BTC. If it still exists, hold. If it doesn't or never did, sell.

I bought BTC because concept of decentralization appealed to me. I am not in it for profit as I don't hold much BTC.
its good to participate in the market, helps liquidity and price discovery, every bitcoiner should have a trading account.

Yes, I should try. I have a trading account on kraken. I should try to trade with the money i earn from signature. Nothing to lose.

Only deposits via banks or payment processors are blocked.  Withdrawals via banks are still working, and the exchanges have found alternative not-so-convenient deposit channels.  But further restrictions are still possible.

Which means they can still ban it... Again... On the other hand, if they wanted to shut it down, wouldn't they have done it by now? It's been over six months!

*shakes head*
I don't think the Chinese government wants to shut it down necessarily.  There is a sizable bitcoin mining industry that depends on it and generates export revenue, and also many investors, big and small, who would lose money and get mad if they did.  They just want to make sure that it is not used as a currency in commerce (which they mostly did already) nor a payment medium for illegal trade, bribery, and foreign subversion (which they still seem to be worried about) or as a way for a few smart people to suck money from unwary investors and traders (which they may worry about once enough victims start complaining).

As time passes, bitcoin will become unstoppable. Only a major 51% attack could block it.

I do not think a 51% attack would mean the end. The pool would have to have a malicious intent. The people in the pool, probably would switch over to another pool (or the smaller pools could form together).

The 51% attack could only affect future blocks and not past blocks so, people could just stop using btc or blockchain could shut down until issue is resolved.

New modifications can prevent future attacks. I just do not see it as a serious threat. Does anyone agree with me on here (or am I missing something?)
I meant a 51% attack by a government.

This number is ridiculously too high. Looking at gbianchi work, I would say 1000 new users a day is a maximum.

So... Wait 'till the price goes up to buy? Do you also wait for the price to drop to sell?? Brilliant trading strategies..

very very few investors - even professional ones - are capable of behaving like Warren Buffett, and buy when others are selling and sell when others are buying. Most move with the herd and with conventional wisdom.

I recently tried to do some trading with little money i earned from signature campaign, and i am really bad with this, i lose money on most of my trades, so i stopped and i am now convinced that my strategy (buy and hold) is the best for me.

Exactly, my strategy was to keep btc, to sell after a pump and rebuy after the following dump. But in reality, every time, i was trying to catch a falling knife.

Depends on where you live, in the Netherlands and Belgium it's very easy to buy bitcoins, (www.bitonic.nl allows you to use iDeal and mistercash only, both of which are instant payment methods between your bank and bitonic.

It can't get much simpler than that, and soon the whole SEPA region will get similar payment methods like iDeal so bitonic might become even bigger in Europe.

I would love it. Today, from my french bank to kraken, it is at least 24h, and usually 48h.

My take: we either get some proper dumping which the market doensn't look up for or this is a headfake down prior to a big move upwards.

How much money will a dumper really have made dumping at 620, 610, 600, 590 with the hope of buying back in. Not much.

Either way i will buy another tranche of coins over the next couple of days.  Grin

Let's call it what it is. Bitcoin is failing. People are getting out. Moving on to other things.
The peak is over. This WAS the bubble you all were waiting for.

There isn't massive user adoption that will raise the price. Companies aren't standing in line to use Bitcoin. Wallstreet isn't dying to get in.
Everybody has been saying that to the point where everyone thought it was true Well it isn't. You've been lied to.

No, they are not buying.

It really isn't complicated: they will make money on the increase in the value of their fund (probs mainly long with some downside hedging). Hence it is in their interest for the price to be as low as possible on Friday. They have decades of commodity trading experience and deep funding. We are going down till the weekend.

A new deadline. You people just keep creating new deadlines out of thin air. We will go up on that day. That days comes and goes. We still go down and you will simply create a new deadline.

And they're so stinking rich they don't care about slippage?

Their margins are so slim and their debts and electricity bills need to be paid so likely they only have somewhat limited option.

I think this is actually likely to be a bigger factor than people think. In the last 12 months or so, we've moved from semi-pro miners who are likely to want to hold their freshly minted Bitcoin to commercial miners who are just in it for the profits, accumulation be damned. The Bitcoin inflation rate is therefore less masked and actually quite high at the moment. The last halving was followed by a rise many were claiming would not happen, I expect the next one to be very interesting. We have a while to wait for that though.

Yes, a lot of time Smiley

You should check your acces to that wallet.
I've read a few times that people had problems decoding the wallet.
If I remember correctly, it was something with specific browsers (like safari)

I just use paper wallets and sore them like chash.

I also have my stash on bip38 paper wallet, i tested process a lot before putting all my bitcoins on a single paper wallet, and it is working fine. I use blockchain android app to import private key, and decoding bip38 protection could be long (30-40s), but it works and it is a really nice protection.

I hope, that like me, a lot of ppl will jump at the opportunity to buy with a CC... I just added 2 cards to Circle with good amount of credit. (over $50.000) and I am going to buy BTC. This has been the biggest hurdle for me and my Scandinavian friends. I have at least 10 friends that now are going to buy. Even if they just buy a couple of coins, it is going to be good. The whole SWIFT bank transfer and waiting days for it to show up on an exchange was to slow and lost me money. If Circle works, I bet you this is going to be big. Setting up something in the middle, and selling coins should also be easier. I now think I will put up that ATM in Oslo after all...

Scandinavians, especially Norwegians have shit loads of fiat, and will react if they see this as a good thing. Most ppl I know, have been waiting for this. So a good day. Now if I could only deposit via the cards...

Circle is really good news. Now, there is a symmetry: it is as fast to send money into bitcoin as to remove it.
Circle is already priced in, don't wait to see any effect till circle dries out and needs to buy bitcoins, a lot of bitcoins.

Can someone explain to me what negative difficulty means, is it good or bad?(total noob here)

it only means it is decreasing instead of increasing, this means that older mining machines are going offline for not being profitable anymore, this is not bad, this is the end of the ASIC era.

There is nothing to replace ASIC. Old asic are replaced by new ones, but asic is still in the game.

There is nothing to replace ASIC. Old asic are replaced by new ones, but asic is still in the game.

the end of the ASIC era means that the race of buying the new ASICs in order to be the first to profit has came to an end...we always discussed that there will be an end to this race when Moree's law is actual, the first ASIC was an avalon 90nm and AM 120nm the second was a BFL 65nm at the time the 28nm technology was available in market but not as a Bitcoin ASIC, so naturally people raced to build an ASIC as efficient as possible, but Moree's law suggest that when we hit the 22nm (the available technology today) the network will stabilize because there will be no technology improvement for some time (2 years) unless the price sky rocket so people bring more hashing power but the same technology online.

Thanks for this detailed answer. I think you are right. Big steps are over, and only little ones are to be expected.

You can see it by comparing the individual trades (below the order book) and what orders are actually visible on the order book (I am looking at Bitcoinwisdom). Because of these hidden orders bid support might actually be strong even though it appears weak. Right now 3k coins were sold, but price "only" dropped $4-$5... This also indicates that there was pretty strong support between $368 and $364. Everyone can create hidden orders on Bitfinex, but I think they cost more. They give whales unfair advantage in my opinion.

Thanks a lot for these explanations. I don't use bitfinex, but on kraken, hidden orders don't cost more. Simply create an order of the type stop loss or make profit and the order will be triggered when price hits the target price.

I like Kraken a lot. I guess these order types can be used in the same way as hidden bit orders because you can use them for both sell and buy orders?

Exactly. You could even make an order with a stop loss and make profit targets. Kraken is very good for trading, this is sad they raised fees from 0.20% to 0.35%.

If I lose my phone, can I get the same keys by logging in to the same google account?

Google authenticator is a second password stored in your phone plus an algorithm which generates a one time password based on second password and time.

If you lose your phone and so your second password, you have some solutions listed here :

People have some serious issues if they are worrying about a 20 dollar drop in price.

They are not worried about $20 drop, they are worried because after 1 year price went down $900 from top...

Well, let's say you bought at ~1000$ (just like everybody else did, right...? Grin). You lost ~650$ already. Does it really matter if you loose another 100 (350->250) even 200 (350->150) per coin? You can not possibly loose more than what you already did, so you are technically "in the green" no matter what. Right? Cheesy (I don't really think so, but some might argue so...)

who teh f#ck bought at 1k? seriously?!!! Cheesy

Zoom out on that chart. It paints a different picture. Just cause it doubled doesn't mean anything. Lots of ALTs double over a few days and go back down. Hindsight is easy, its much harder to get timing right and be in a coin when it pumps. Xrp and stellar are at the end of their pumps. The xcp pump is over . in a week or so another alt will pump. Nothing out of the ordinary

On top of that, one week before the bitcoin 1 week MADC is about to turn green.  Lots of noobs will move funds out of bitcoin into ripple, just as ripple will see some sort of dump and bitcoin will rally hard.

Bitcoin will have hit $470 again by Monday and not sure about ripple, I will presume it will crash somewhat, I could be wrong on ripple not done much TA.  But bitcoin is looking very bullish imho.

Why monday ? Auction is the 4th of december, i think we will see more dumps till it is over.

You have a pretty poor record to be fair.

There should be probably another attempt of breaking 450 soon, with ~500 as a target

Price topped out at $414 then retracted.

I think its going to be another fake 6h MacD "recovery" again, most likely going back to 330$ range for some time.

Price rallied by $55

Not super unexpected, but somewhat surprising, a day ago or so i would say chances to go up are like 30%

Could be another trap tho, especially if its not even going to break 400

Your explanation after the rally.

It didn't break 400 and it wasn't a trap.

Dat 2h macd fail combined with both 6h and 12h pointing towards the dump = 350$ confirmed

And now this.

Sorry but anyone taking your advice is likey to lose out.  Either by selling before a rally.  or buying near the top.

You are either a very unlucky trader or a troll.

(A) 06-12 Official announcement of ~30'000 BTC auction by USMS
(B) 06-27 (Fri) Auction carried out.
(C) 06-30 (Mon) USMS announces that all lots were taken by a single bidder.

(D) 11-17 USMS announces new 50'000 BTC auction.

Note that there was no drop after he announcement this time.  I do not think that history will repeat itself.

Anyone else watching that bot on finex? It's doing 0.21 (~$80) market buys every 7 seconds trying to keep the price up

Bots are nothing new. They just do what the buyers and sellers should. That is get the best price for a position.

I think these bots, at least ones so blatant, are bad for the image of BTC. We really do need to get away from bucket-shop exchanges. I, honestly, think we'd have a higher price if the exchanges were more legitimate. That said, in the near term, it has solved the query of whether the price is going up or going down in the near term. So, I'm personally kind of chill with it. But, BFX is a total bucket shop.

It is just a regular user with a trading bot operating via the bitfinex API. I fail to see how that is bad for the image of BTC. Having 'child porn' listed as a use on the Wikipedia page is bad for the image.

In any case all legitimate trading exchanges are now front-run by HFT firms and are corrupted in this regard.

So, you don't think that it is an internal BFX bot. See, I'm thinking it is a BFX bot (FUD notice: I have no basis for this, just looks and feels that way to me).

This bot is all but discreet. Can't be a bitfinex bot.

i wonder when we will receive info about the auction Huh this market is killing me. no volume and flatlined price.

The winning bidders must make sure that the money is in the USMS bank account "by 2:00pm EST, on Monday, December 8, 2014." If a bidder fails to do so, the next one in line is notified and given a similar deadline to do the same.  Defaulting bidders lose their deposit, so there should be no defaults and the outcome will be defined by Monday afternoon.

Last time the auction was on a Friday, and the USMS revealed that "single buyer got it all" on the next Monday.

However, the announcement for this auction says "The USMS will not release any information to the general public pertaining to the auction process or results."  I don recall seeing this explicit statement in the previous announcement.  So perhaps they will not even tell us how many winning bidders there were, and whether all lots were sold.

http://www.usmarshals.gov/assets/2014/dpr-bitcoins/?m=1

so we wont have any info and bitcoin price at the mercy of the unknown buyer...  Cry Cry

We will be able to see from the transfer of the BTC if there was more than one winner. If they all go to one address ... one winner, or one consortium winner. If they are split from that address, likely a consortium, but not certain obviously - one bidder *could* choose to split them into different wallets
If the USMS send out to multiple addresses, likely more than one group won ...

Do you have the address to watch ?

^I take it you've already spent all of your money on bitcoin when it was trading at a much higher price.  Otherwise you'd have money to buy some now.

I'm buying with both hands.

Seems like your hands are empty, because no volume.
You're not alone tho, pretty much all of the bitcoin faithful pawned their families a while ago to buy coins, now all they can do is watch.

Holding is a good strategy.

Perhaps, but that's not the point.  There are 3,600 bitcoins mined per day when the hashrate is static, more when it is increasing.  The majority of these coins are sold to pay for electricity and upkeep of the mines, bills need to be paid.  This means that even if every bitcoiner just hodls, new money has to come into the system to maintain the price.

In other words, the bitcoin network is printing money at a rate of around 15% per year.  This is just like the FED printing 15% more dollars a year - both debase the underlying currency by 15%.

15% is a lot above reality. 10/11% is a better approximation.

I presume you don't correlate the hashrate with price; right? Because when the previous rally started it was right after the hashrate surge... you know, just sayin'... Grin

What previous rally ?

This thing is down 50 per cent over the last six months.

You are clearly shortsighted.

Really obvious trap going on here, but still a lot of people here immediatly fall for it. It is telling about how gullible quite a few people here seem to be. One whale moves the market and BOOM: we are going over 300 dollars for sure! Soon to be followed by: last time we see 200's, to the moon!, etc.

You don't know. Price is moved by manipulators, whales and traders, but is is also moved by bitcoin businesses and individual investors. No one is able to understand this complexity and no one can predict how the price is going to move. Traders and manipulators could get burnt easily.

Daily chart clearly proves you wrong on every major exchange. 10 days? That's not just inaccurate; it's misleading and deceptive.  Care to retract your bullshit statement?

Relax man. Take a deep breath. Go out for a little walk, and when your stress is down, just look at the charts again. Price was 254 ten days ago and 240 12 days ago. So yes, it was not a perfect ramp up, but it is an impressive pump and buying today is not that smart.

4) Bitcoin is not a traditional investment, and  also the release of new coins is not endless, it is very specific and known values, known by all in advance. No surprises here.

... unless, surprise, the top mining pools decide (with the main developers' blessing) that the next reward halvings need to be postponed for a couple of years, in order to ensure that mining remains profitable and they are not forced to abuse their overwhelming hashpower in nastier ways.

This would kill bitcoin value, this is called suicide.

btw. chat at tradingview about btc is great place if you trade with brain (=analysis)

chessnut's and danv's at last time are pretty accurate
ofc you can find also bullish at now like always but there's much more premises to go down.

look at btcchina 15m - rising volume with dropping price, clearly distribution.
the guy with 500k$? long at finex is joke. We saw similar spikes right before price went down.
i don't say price will crash today or tomorrow but it's easy to see that this is another bulltrap very likely.
slowly downtrend with many mini bulltraps is what we can see now.
Maybe with final dump. the sooner, the better to go faster up imo.
Right now there's an army people holding btc and holding opened longs and they must believe that we're going higher.
they think that they're in accumulation phase:) because they're always buying when price rose lol.
usually that's the point when distribution is starting:)

If you trade with a brain you won't be frequenting tradingview, whaleclub or any other group for that matter, you'll be reading and studying the market on your own. If those guys were making consistent money they wouldn't need to promote themselves to attract a following. And I can guarantee you those guys already know how to trade, set stops correctly, and read the market as it comes at them allowing them to avoid their own advice if it turns out to be false (which is often, no analyst is perfect). The poor lemmings who listen to them will be stuck in poor positions as the market turns against them, not knowing what to do, so they invariably hold, hoping and wishing (and trolling) that the market will come back to them. Eventually they get emotional and let go at the worst possible time. This is how the market eats newb traders.

Don't bother with 15m analysis. We are in an accumulation phase, at least on the longer term (months). They happen after capitulation at market bottoms. A long term distribution will occur at some point in the future, but not until after a strong bull market. Dec-Feb 2013/14 was the big distribution phase after the 2013 bull market. Accumulation generally takes longer than distribution, and we are nearing the final phases of one now started in January. Either bears get their wish and the market shakes down to $200 again before takeoff, or we blast off upwards through spring and summer. It's anyone's guess at this point. In the event of a shakeout many longs (who have proven to be well-capitalized) would continue to hold and more shorts led by dumb money would be opened, only to run for cover on the reversal. In the event of a blast off, the shorts would still run for cover and many more would be opened above $300 only to be destroyed by a new bull market, which always follows an accumulation phase (of course the dumb money does not know this). This is why there are so many well-funded long positions, probably some professional money there. Shorts are the weak hands in both scenarios.

Personally, with the difficulty the market has had selling of recently, my vote is for the blast off. It'll happen just like every other bubble: Supply is removed from remaining weak hands via capitulation, market fails to continue downward as demand is back in control, and price floats up for a few months before gaining steam into a parabolic move. Then distribution and another bear market as all the weak hands who bought at the top bail again, then accumulation and another bull market. Rinse and repeat.

Best post i have seen here for a long time now. This is why i keep reading this thread full of trolls.

Support at 240-245 range seems substantial, but not insurmountable.

Keep selling! You can do it! To the floor!

Both longs and shorts are up since the 10$ drop. I am expecting a firework. The whale who shoot first win.

Quote
Public trading could begin next week for bitcoin fund

Investors soon could begin trading shares of the first investment vehicle tied to bitcoin.

It's been called "bitcoin's golden moment," and some see it as the start of the financial
trend of the future. The Bitcoin Investment Trust (BIT) is just about ready for public trading.

The fund, whose share price would be about one-tenth of one bitcoin's selling price minus
fees, has cleared all of its regulatory hurdles, and many shares have surpassed their
year-long holding period, according to Barry Silbert, the founder of Digital Currency
Group, which owns the fund's manager Grayscale Investments.

Well, maybe it was somehow uncorrect to say I would buy your coins @$236. It is more a sign of my willingness to buy fresh coins. The lower the price, the higher my willingness to buy. As masterluc said long ago... Everything < $260 is buying zone (long-term).

I will not buy back them to you, i don't think you are stupid. But i think some other will sell at a lower price, because they will be forced to. If the support hold, i keep my coins.

PayPal merchants can now accept Bitcoin?

Wow. That's news.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/321pb3/paypal_just_filed_this_document_to_the_sec/

edit

Key words here:

"....digital currencies such as Bitcoin..."

Chaps....world domination is upon us. Hold on to your beer (and the boobs).

PayPal doesn't have a mobile hardware phone offering, so while Apple Pay, Microsoft and Samsung all jump into mobile payments, PayPal needs to do something different.

Options.

1. Add Bitcoin and start pissing off Visa and MasterCard, and the above. That's not so bad for PayPal because it back's onto people's bank accounts. In theory PayPal could wipe out Coinbase, while also propelling Bitcoin into the mainstream.

2. PayPal could try to buy a hardware unit, if Blackberry wasn't such a basket case it could have been RIM. But why bother? PayPal is currently unique in that it connects to people's bank accounts. Until Apple, Microsoft and Samsung switch to doing this, PayPal and Bitcoin are a natural fit for PayPal's competitive advantage.

I'd be buying Bitcoin and PayPal stock at this point.

Well, that's awesome. BIT on Monday PLUS Paypal? The ultimate Bear trap is being settled... Am I the only one who sees where this is going?  Wink
PS: Options for h/w wallet: https://www.hardwarewallet.com/
PS2: They don't need one. Any phone with paypal app will do just fine...

Shorters will get burnt before the news. If this is real, rumor will get bitcoin to 300$ in less than 24 hours.

Probably to Kraken.

People who let all their coins on exchanges deserve to get burnt. That said, kraken is a very good exchange. A lot of traders use bitfinex and okcoin, kraken is a lot better in term of trading possibilities. I use it to buy coins as it is the best for euros and the one with the biggest volume. It is a shame it has such a low volume in usd.

Indeed. But there were a few trillion dollars to be made before it all went tits up and then things really got rolling after the wreckage had been cleared. I hope it doesn't pan out that way but it's kind of a natural cycle.

Believe it or not, one of the companies that I'm most worried about is Coinbase.

In in the past 2 years, I have literally watched that page grow from about 5 employees to what you see now on that page.  And they just keep adding more employees.  At the rate they are going, unless something drastically changes I don't think that they are going to have a business model that will support all of that headcount and still make a profit.

Why? If it it going to go below 220 why hasn't it gone there yet?

How long will these 220s last? Any insights?

Looks like it's stuck between 226 and 222.

Today is moon's day. Big Monday !!!

Be ready for big news from gemini, intel and drapper !!!

I hope so mate, obviously not anything regarding intel & draper but why do you say there could be news about the Gemini exchange?
Being serious or trolling? I think it must be in the pipeline because they were waiting on the Bitlicense.
They also recently set up an instagram account so we could hear something soon.

I am not trolling, look at the price. It went from 1385y to 1394y since my last post. Big pump incoming.

Hopefully we're now experiencing a change in the markets direction, bears were promising & threatening sub 200 USD coins but it's failed to materialise.
Could the bear market have come to an end? I have a feeling something may be bubbling under the surface & we could be set for the beginning of something special, maybe not right now but in the next few months.
Will the Winklevoss's be about to change everything Wink

The bear market will be ended once we cross the log trend resistance. On okcoin, this line is at 1672 today and price is 1426. So we are far from the end of bear market.

Lowest offer for USD lending is ~0.04% per day on OKCoin.

I subscribe everything you said. The real solution would be eradicating relics which should be consigned to the dustbin of history: namely fanaticism and religion (any religion) through reason, but this is my very own point of view and far less likely.

Humans are regular animals.  Dogs bark at themselves in the mirror for no reason.  Some people do similar things.  The ones who try to classify humans as some type of creature far above the scope of the common animal will be the first to die once the Obama economy implodes.  In the words of The Watchmen movie, "Now the whole world stands on the brink staring down into bloody hell. All those liberals, and intellectuals, and smooth-talkers; and all of a sudden no one can think of anything to say."

Anyhow, probably time to put on a full-node again,

I restarted 24/7 on mine about a month ago, due to the controversy. Currently running Core, but not as support for core dev position. I am _very_ motivated to find an alternative. If only the 'anything but 1MB4EVA stasis' crowd had a single standard to rally around...

Do you run yours from your computer at home, or from a vps?

I have been meaning to start running one, but I can't run mine from home, and it costs quite a lot for a decent vps that's reliable and has sufficient bandwidth. What's the lowest spec vps that can run a full node, and how much data would it probably use in a month?

Google cloud is free the first 60 days. See my signature links for more details.

Still waiting on the team mascots to decide which is better.

What I don't understand is: who chooses?
I mean, I could have my opinion (I don't cause I'm not technical enough to understand everything) but even if I had, what influence would that have? Who decides in the end?

People who run nodes decide which one they are running. If everyone stop using bitcoin core, bitcoin core is dead.

Have a look to the node list to know what software is used : https://bitnodes.21.co/nodes/

Both of you need to stop using a bitcoin node as a wallet. Use electrum, copay or a trezor for that. This is safe, light and easy, just the opposite of what a node is.

What exactly should I ask for if I want to follow your footsteps and run a full node on Amazon's smallest, weakest instance type? Is it a Linux instance type because they are usually the cheapest?

What exactly should I ask for if I want to follow your footsteps, but if I want a Windows instance type?

It's pretty straightforward. Just fire up a t2.micro with enough disk space, create a security group that allows port 22 and 9333 and run the node software.

It's fairly similar between windows and linux but I'd recommend linux because it's cheaper and because you don't really need all the things windows does. I'm thinking I may make a video on how to do it.

As in: running a full node on that instance?

What about bandwidth / number of connections? I vaguely remember some recommendations not to bother with running a full node unless meeting certain requirements wrt the previous two variables, since otherwise you're not really adding much to the network. Is that a problem with the EC2 node?

If not, I'm going to start running a few of those instances as well. The reason for me not to permanently run a full node is that I don't have a machine that I don't use otherwise, and that I don't mind being dedicated to the network. But outsourcing it sounds exactly like my kind of deal Cheesy

Please give us a rundown on how to set one up over there, at some point.

Bitcoin port is 8333 and not 9333.

I'm always interested to hear a coherent argument against something that appears completely natural and obvious to me
Free blockchain space for everybody is neither natural nor obvious. The so called "classic" fork is not a solution. It is merely kicking the can down the road approach that makes future solution even more difficult to find.

I'll stick to Core and bitcoin main branch. Good luck with the classic free-money-to-everybody!

You could stick to Core till the fork, after that, you will need to use a client compatible with big blocks, the other chain is going to die quickly.

What's with the Antpool blocks of 1 transaction at .2 kB???

It happens a lot with Antpool. My guess is they filter transactions with low fees. But i also heard about spv mining, not sure of what it is.

re Luke-JR and changing over to SHA3: The man seems to go out of his way to find causes to champion, the more hopeless, the better. I first remember paying attention to him when he was acticely pushing tonal notation for Bitcoin. At least that was relatively harmless, if eccentric.

I read his first posts on bitcointalk recently after reading him trolling on Classic's slack channels. First time ever i heard about tonal notation.

hello bitcoin land
it's some very nice weather we are having this morning.
anyway,
is there a date set by bitcoinclassic for there fork?

will the dev's have their implementation which gives about 4x capacity to the network be ready in time before bitcoinclassic forks?

if not, will poeple switch to bitcoin classic's 2MB right away even if core is on the verge of a breakthrough?

only time will tell, i guess.

Timing is really simple. As soon as classic is released, we need 750 blocks out of the last 1000 to be classic blocks (block.version=0x20000008). If we get that, Classic is activated, and bigger blocks are allowed after a 4 week grace period.

Apparently, it's YOU who didn't get the news.

I think he's referring to f2pools tentative agreement with core about a 2mb block size in 2017.

So we know f2pool and probably Kano supports core. Kano is insignificant and f2pool might shrink quite a bit in a couple of months.

2017!! So funny.

More precisely it looked like around 10K coins being broken up into 2.5 coin outputs, with only two outputs per transaction (one 2.5 and one huge change). Why that would be done rather than simply creating a whole bunch of 2.5 outputs in one tx (with much lower fees) I have no idea, other than maybe some sort of mempool type attack, or stupidity.

It is possible than someone wants people to believe Satoshi is back to sell his coins before the hardfork. Market manipulation ? Governance manipulation ? I don't know. The cost of the manipulation is very high, at first sight, thousands of coins.

To me, seems to be a slightly different topic with the details of my above provided link and nearly 5.7 million btc contained in that one block.

The 5.7 million btc in one block are just 10,000 btc moving and moving. Today, you could spend unconfirmed outputs so you could move the same coins many times in the same block. I think i found the initial transactions : https://blockchain.info/fr/address/18SwPkgUHFo8QLh5fMcchKvmUVrFNxXF6B

So is Bitcoin Classic just Bitcoin Core with a 2Mb blocksize limit or are there other changes like Hearn's XT with blacklist snuck in?

Only core with a 2MB blocksize limit and code for activation.

At start, it supports only 1MB blocks and when 750 out of the last 1000 blocks do have the right versionbits, hardfork is activated. Then, there is a 4 week grace period so everybody has the time to update its node and then we could have the first big block.

Lots of uncertainty in the market with the possible upcoming hard fork (= the fight over who actually controls Bitcoin). Under those circumstances still a price > 365$ can't be interpreted otherwise than bullish. Great times ahead!

You are wrong, once it has been confirmed once, the number of confirmation is incremented at each new block as it is already in a block. If it takes time, this is because ten minutes delay between blocks is just an average and could be very much longer.
