When I discovered Bitcoin almost 2 years ago, I wished it had been 2 years earlier.
As I helplessly watched the price rise from $15 to over $60 while I tried to acquire some, I envied those who'd paid pennies.
Now my $68 coins look pretty good. In another 2 years today's $400 coins will seem dirt cheap.
We are indeed still all early adopters.
Are those who paid 1200 $ also early adopters?

You are late. That rumor came out just before the rally of a few days ago, and got everybody excited. It was most likely the cause of the rally. (Recall that OKCoin was leading then.) The rally fizzled presumably because the rumor was NOT confirmed in the following days.
Apparently the rumor still hasn't died completely. That may explain why the price did not return completely to the pre-rally levels.
But there may be more rumors coming, who knows.
I knew that this is ''old'' news, but it is huge. That's why there is high trading volume

Zoom out on that chart. It paints a different picture. Just cause it doubled doesn't mean anything. Lots of ALTs double over a few days and go back down. Hindsight is easy, its much harder to get timing right and be in a coin when it pumps. Xrp and stellar are at the end of their pumps. The xcp pump is over . in a week or so another alt will pump. Nothing out of the ordinary
On top of that, one week before the bitcoin 1 week MADC is about to turn green. Lots of noobs will move funds out of bitcoin into ripple, just as ripple will see some sort of dump and bitcoin will rally hard.
Bitcoin will have hit $470 again by Monday and not sure about ripple, I will presume it will crash somewhat, I could be wrong on ripple not done much TA. But bitcoin is looking very bullish imho.
Why monday ? Auction is the 4th of december, i think we will see more dumps till it is over.
Why dump? Just need to know who buys the coins the 4th december. If it is some major investor we go to the moon

About 2% of my base. And you? Likely more? If not more, probably will be more soon. You don't always get it right and I certainly got blindsided on that crazy run up to the $450 range on confusion about a hedge fund doing trading through OKCoin. But, yea, the retailers are going to dump -- and you all know it, too. The price will get a spike probably throughout the day as some people will buy fresh coins to take advantage of discounts, but if I was a hodler I wouldn't feel too comfortable right now because the retailers are required to convert to fiat. I mean, it's not even malicious or uncertain -- it's just a fact.

I would say the Bitcoin users are quite heterogeneous.
Anecdote time: I use Bitcoin more and more and never gambled nor bought drugs (not that I oppose people doing any of those things).
A lot of people are willing to support Bitcoin simply for ethical motives. We want sound money and are angry at the bloody Fiat fraud. The fact that it's also so powerful at being a means of exchange makes that adoption take off. This is from the simple user/traditional merchant perspective. Bitcoin serves a lot of purposes.

Coins that are on the books but don't exist, ie. Gox. All good until folks try to withdraw and there are 'delays'... If you don't hold the keys to your coins on any Bitcoin service then they're gone and you might never see them again, some exchanges run transparently so why don't others? What do they have to hide?

If as you seem to think, Bitcoin
is a bubble, you should make that plural. There have been lots of Bitcoin "bubbles" and it's still early in the adoption curve.
I tend to agree with Risto that Bitcoin is nearly finished with the Innovator stage and is almost ready to move on to the Early Adopter stage.
As for the use of log charts versus linear, you do realize that s-curves are generally parabolic until they go vertical, don't you? Eventually with saturation, the curve will bend the other way.
If anything, the use of linear charts is misleading to those who can't read a chart.

Why do we always perpetuate the lie that auction coins are sold? You have no idea at what price they will be bought? With the end of the bear market seemingly in sight it could be the last time a chunk of coins like this can be bough so easily. They could easily go over market price.
There's also no evidence that previous coins have been sold. Drapers coins haven't moved. The only evidence for auction coins being sold before if that 1 block that got sent to bfx, thats it.

There are only 14 million BTC out there, so if there were 15 million bitcoiners the average bitcoiner would have less than 1 BTC. Since the distribution is highly skewed, most of those "bitcoiners" would have to own only 0.01 BTC or less.
There are only ~150'000 transactions issued per day, or ~4.5 million per month. If we count as bitcoiners only those people who issue a transaction at least once a month, there cannot be more than 4.5 million. Again, most of the transactions are generated by a small number of users, so the number of bitcoiners is probably less than 450'000.

It appears that way... bulls turning to bears and talking down in hopes of buying in at lower prices. That's how tarmi's and kwukducks are created. Sure, we may have some dips here and there, but why would this end now? A day before the auction? Mid-week? Why not a weekend dump? The way I look at it, I have held this long, why sell now? I'm not thinking about selling until we're past the old ATH. This rise has been violent, but that 2 year down trend wasn't pretty either. We're heading to a new ath by the halving, and I wouldn't be surprised if we tested the old one before 2016.

I read a CoinDesk story about ripple today and there was a footnote saying the company that owns CoinDesk is an investor in the company that runs ripple. That's news to me. On November 4, 2015, the $502 was clearly a fast move upwards in which the total bitcoin community was not able to support such a quick uprising in prices or to sustain such a price at that time. Such a supposed wall is not existent under the current circumstances.

Just got back from from buying a little more, just a half a coin today, but half a coin is better than none at all. Missed the bottom yesterday but hopefully caught it today.
Now we're scrapping over support at $900... currently $918USD at Bitcoinaverage. Meanwhile we're hanging tough at $1208 CAD, basically where we were at Xmas.
Hopefully that was the double bottom that will send it back up.

There were a few threads in November 2013 discussing the formation of a cup and handle. In this quote from 2013 they were speculating the bottom of the handle was the crash to $180, and that the top of the handle might be $300-$500.
They were too pessimistic, it went to over double that, more than $1100. I'm hoping history repeats itself and we are all being too pessimistic. If we are it could go to over $20k, but I'm pessimistic about it.
A large amount of capitulation (and potential handle) already can be seen from a few weeks ago ("crash" from $230 to $180 or whatever, and the following week).
Yeah, it's really difficult to tell what we might expect to see (obviously), but, it's reasonable to imagine that the launch from the 140-declining-to-130 handle in September could start a run that goes for 2,3,4 or more months with no major corrections. If that happens, we will look back and see the cup-and-handle for what it was-- a sign of yet another level (speculating maybe 300-500 range).

Until now it is doing exactly what it should be doing to continue rising next week: Small but significant correction, half recovery and consolidation. Not sure if there will be another test of $1500 before monday... In fact it would be slightly better if it does.
The biggest pump will come when people realise that altcoins can not go on pumping indefinitely and a good chunk of market share returns to BTC. That has not hapenned yet.
Unfortunately. Who knows, maybe that'll happen next week if we go upwards again. I don't enjoy being where we are in terms of this small rise, but it's necessary to go back up. Once those altcoins are sold back to BTC we'll see an enormous bump in price bigger than any we've seen recently.

Yes it is. I use my own emotions to check this. I am feeling quite desperate rightnow because of altcoins. This means that the whales will dump soon to trap the noobs that will FOMO on alts. Its all in the wallstreet cycle of doom.
Yes, Btc is still king. I mean, why the hell would you buy litecoin if you can buy bitcoin? Ltc will be dumped to $5 in a bearmarket, btc to $1,000. Yes, possibly you make more ROI with litecoin if you make great decisions, but bitcoin is more steady then altcoins and the dumps will not that hard like alts.
