Bitcoin horror story, read this:

It's very sad and it's not a joke, I wouldn't even know what to say to that poor guy.
A very important reminder that one should NEVER expose himself to risk in investing/trading more that one is afford to lose.
Never expose yourself to that kind of risk.

Jesus Christ.
Very sad for this guy, but he earns 79,000 $ per year. He can pay off in a few years. It's just an expensive learning phase.

I don't know what holds the price between 398-410 today, is it the chinese market? How can one know that?

If thats the case, then there might be some decentralization, but not by real banks, but by individuals or organisations.

Anyone care to explain?

When I discovered Bitcoin almost 2 years ago, I wished it had been 2 years earlier.

As I helplessly watched the price rise from $15 to over $60 while I tried to acquire some, I envied those who'd paid pennies.

Now my $68 coins look pretty good. In another 2 years today's $400 coins will seem dirt cheap.

We are indeed still all early adopters.
Are those who paid 1200 $ also early adopters?
doesn't matter. still eary adopters in one of the bitcoin bubbles..

If the price would've been at 10k today would you still say we're early adopters?

It is all relative, if everyone in the world ends up using Bitcoin then certainly those who got in at 10k could be considered early adopters

You are late. That rumor came out just before the rally of a few days ago, and got everybody excited.  It was most likely the cause of the rally.  (Recall that OKCoin was leading then.) The rally fizzled presumably because the rumor was NOT confirmed in the following days.

Apparently the rumor still hasn't died completely.  That may explain why the price did not return completely to the pre-rally levels.

But there may be more rumors coming, who knows.

I knew that this is ''old'' news, but it is huge. That's why there is high trading volume

Zoom out on that chart. It paints a different picture. Just cause it doubled doesn't mean anything. Lots of ALTs double over a few days and go back down. Hindsight is easy, its much harder to get timing right and be in a coin when it pumps. Xrp and stellar are at the end of their pumps. The xcp pump is over . in a week or so another alt will pump. Nothing out of the ordinary

On top of that, one week before the bitcoin 1 week MADC is about to turn green.  Lots of noobs will move funds out of bitcoin into ripple, just as ripple will see some sort of dump and bitcoin will rally hard.

Bitcoin will have hit $470 again by Monday and not sure about ripple, I will presume it will crash somewhat, I could be wrong on ripple not done much TA.  But bitcoin is looking very bullish imho.

Why monday ? Auction is the 4th of december, i think we will see more dumps till it is over.
Why dump? Just need to know who buys the coins the 4th december. If it is some major investor we go to the moon Wink

Yea, no. This s--- is going to fall like a 500 foot lead dildo.
How much money have you lost the past weeks?

About 2% of my base. And you? Likely more? If not more, probably will be more soon. You don't always get it right and I certainly got blindsided on that crazy run up to the $450 range on confusion about a hedge fund doing trading through OKCoin. But, yea, the retailers are going to dump -- and you all know it, too. The price will get a spike probably throughout the day as some people will buy fresh coins to take advantage of discounts, but if I was a hodler I wouldn't feel too comfortable right now because the retailers are required to convert to fiat. I mean, it's not even malicious or uncertain -- it's just a fact.

Do you guys seriously believe there is significant commerce in Bitcoin besides drugs and gambling?

I would say the Bitcoin users are quite heterogeneous.

Anecdote time: I use Bitcoin more and more and never gambled nor bought drugs (not that I oppose people doing any of those things).

A lot of people are willing to support Bitcoin simply for ethical motives. We want sound money and are angry at the bloody Fiat fraud. The fact that it's also so powerful at being a means of exchange makes that adoption take off. This is from the simple user/traditional merchant perspective. Bitcoin serves a lot of purposes.

This is what you get with unregulated markets. It has nothing to do with Bitcoin. If the stock markets were unregulated like this, it would destroy our civilization.

No, no, no. Don't blame this on "unregulated markets". The fact that it's unregulated is not the source of this turmoil.

You're losing money because you put money into something that did not deserve it. This thing is not worth $200, and the market is just figuring it out.

History books will teach that after the dotcom bubble of the late 1990s, there was an even more irrational bubble: the crypto bubble, where people threw millions of dollar at hundreds of scamcoins, with btc at its head.

Ripple will be the Microsoft of this bubble, the one true winner.
Lol, that's why Ripple also drops 15 % in value?

Coins that are on the books but don't exist, ie. Gox. All good until folks try to withdraw and there are 'delays'... If you don't hold the keys to your coins on any Bitcoin service then they're gone and you might never see them again, some exchanges run transparently so why don't others? What do they have to hide?

Sure. Keep telling yourself that everything is looking great and this is anything else than a useless pump and dump coin being raped by traders.

Cannot be raped if we never sell for a loss. If Bitcoin fails than we lose everything but we are willing to take that risk in completing this experiment, otherwise
being a dis-inflationary currency we will eventually see a reversal in 2016 at the latest.

By 2016 nobody is using this useless slow coin anymore. Tons of alt coins out there are better than Bitcoin. And seeing how Bitcoin adoption is greatly slowing down every day there will be no reason to use it anymore by the end 2015.
But go ahead and keep buying thinking we will go the moon. I'll be here to enjoy the show.

Yes, I am short. But considering there was about 400 to 219 a couple minutes ago, there is now 2200 to 219, and Magic Beanswisdom is down for a few of the exchanges so people can't track the walls... well, those things make me think yes... people on here might want to know.

I see you are long!

I'm long too but I trade on daily candles. Anything below 6h/4h is noise to me. The way I see it we're moving into oversold territory on the oscillators on declining sell volume with narrower candle spreads... the current daily candle has a decent wick pointing downward, indicating that the market absorbed anything in that range... even the 3d candle is turning into a no supply candle, pretty pathetic for bears. I think the markets have simply ground to a halt. Last selloff was meh. Noob/bad trader/gambler shorts have increased to 20k thinking we'll retest $200 when in reality there is almost nobody left to sell. Perfect opportunity for a pump.

don't worry when the chinese wake up they will see that big red 'chinese panic' flash dump and they will start the panic mode and huobi will shutdown and and all the chinese will start unloading their bags on the rumor that bitcoin is going to 170.

The only people panicking are those that dumped 5000 coins on finex hoping the price would fall in a cascade of selling.

XRP functions as a transaction stamp and temporary holding/conversion currency.  It's value is expected to rise as the network grows and becomes more useful.  Ripple's alleged "premine" makes sense when you view XRP like a stock that is gradually issued as the company grows.

So, when price pumps short term after still being 70% or whatever since ATH the bulls start insulting the "beartrolls" and laugh at them.
Pretty sure you have done that at every spike during the bearmarket before another drop to a new low eventually. Not sure tho, can't remember well.

Actually, I've been laughing at the bear trolls since the price was in double digits, regardless of whether it is temporarily going up or down.

Short term (last 5 days), the price is up. Long term (last 5 years), the price is way up.

Only in the medium term is it down.
Some of what you call "beartrolls" have simply been saying that bitcoin is a bubble, and by looking at the all time linear chart (the log one is perfect to mislead who can't read a chart) they are more right than wrong so far.
What you are saying is that bitcoin price could go to double or single digits and we shouldn't worry because it started trading in the $0.1-$1 range so it would still be a long term uptrend?

If as you seem to think, Bitcoin is a bubble, you should make that plural. There have been lots of Bitcoin "bubbles" and it's still early in the adoption curve.

I tend to agree with Risto that Bitcoin is nearly finished with the Innovator stage and is almost ready to move on to the Early Adopter stage.

As for the use of log charts versus linear, you do realize that s-curves are generally parabolic until they go vertical, don't you? Eventually with saturation, the curve will bend the other way.

If anything, the use of linear charts is misleading to those who can't read a chart.

just wait for next halving, its really going to be something..

The beer part is easy. Just go to a bar that accepts Bitcoin.

The weed part is a little more difficult. I don't know any potbrokers who accept bitcoins in real life, just on the internet and that takes days.

It can take a long time to wire money from a bank account to an exchange, sometimes close to a week. Towards the end of this week wired money will be arriving in exchanges and it could rapidly drive the price higher than we expect. $300 might happen sooner than we think.

@Jimbo: Ever have "cold tea" in Chinatown at 3 in the morning?

Fun fact: it's beer served in a tea pot Wink

Lots of times, especially in the bad old days when last call was at 1:00AM and most bars still didn't pack beers to go in paper bags.

It wasn't beer in those days though, usually rye, but it was cheaper than booze cans.

I don't bother any more though. I live in the neighborhood so we usually just get a few beers to go at 2:45 and go to someone's house for an afterparty where we can smoke, toke, drink and do whatever away from prying eyes and ears.

Only suburbanites and other tourists go to booze cans any more... too much cocaine, too expensive and they're all under control of the bikers and infiltrated by cops. In the old days they were actual booze cans, catering to entertainers and bar employees., and run by members of the community.

On-topic: Price dipped back under $260 again but has since gone back up almost to $261.  Cheesy

Some people have lost a lot of money trying to stop bitcoin appreciation.
Now we are entering the panic buying phase. Price can easily double overnight.

Better sell before and profit from easy 50-150% $$$$$ earnings.
Buy and hold = boring and slow profit, if never sold, no profit at all
Buy low, sell high = more risk, more profit (BTC and $$$ wise)

Been doing this in over a year and so far I have a nice profit. But now even I have 110 bucks profit per coin, I am still not selling it yet. $$$$$$$

Atta boy. HOOODLLL.

Now where to set the buy orders...

440-470 at its current rate .... any correction will quickly get eaten up and likely recover in 30min to 1 hour . This volatility is very bad ... it reflects that bitcoin has reversed course and no longer becoming more stable year after year but still very immature and volatile ... hopefully this will change in 1-5 years.
Wences Casares:
''It is hard to estimate how many people on bitcoins, but it may be somewhere between 13 and 15 million people right now. If Bitcoin is successful we will see hundreds of millions of people own Bitcoin and, eventually, billions. The only way we can get to billions of people owning Bitcoin is by the price going up by several orders of magnitude, let's say $ 1 million (but this is highly speculative and risky). So, if I am right, and Bitcoin has to go from $390 to $1,000,000 the best way for it to get there without crashing irreversibly is with as much volatility as possible. If bitcoin went up a couple percentage points every week and everybody began to think about it as a "sure" thing, investing money that was destined to pay for kids colleges or for retirement, that is a disaster waiting to happen price wise. Because when Bitcoin corrects those people have to sell because they cannot take more losses, potentially creating a vicious circle which is hard to reverse.''

Do you know why nuclear explosions don't blow up the whole planet? Because the chain reaction needs a certain amount of heat to continue.  Yes, it's an awesome event, but it doesn't last long.

why so grumpy?

Well, I'm considerably upside down on my short, but I'm gonna let it ride.  Coins bought at auction tomorrow will get dumped if we stay anywhere near this high. Somehow I doubt it will stay this high. But then again, I've been wrong before.

Remember Remember the Fifth of November.

Why do we always perpetuate the lie that auction coins are sold? You have no idea at what price they will be bought? With the end of the bear market seemingly in sight it could be the last time a chunk of coins like this can be bough so easily. They could easily go over market price.

There's also no evidence that previous coins have been sold. Drapers coins haven't moved. The only evidence for auction coins being sold before if that 1 block that got sent to bfx, thats it.
you're right dreamspark!

There are only 14 million BTC out there, so if there were 15 million bitcoiners the average bitcoiner would have less than 1 BTC.  Since the distribution is highly skewed, most of those "bitcoiners" would have to own only 0.01 BTC or less.

There are only ~150'000 transactions issued per day, or ~4.5 million per month. If we count as bitcoiners only those people who issue a transaction at least once a month, there cannot be more than 4.5 million.  Again, most of the transactions are generated by a small number of users, so the number of bitcoiners is probably less than 450'000.

Wences is one of the worst snake bit-oil peddlers out there.  By talking about "1,000,000 $/BTC" as if it were an almost sure thing, he has definitely left the "salesman" land and crossed into "scam" territory.

Lol you guys all sold or something ?

China is showing no signs of slowing down, this isnt over soon.

It appears that way... bulls turning to bears and talking down in hopes of buying in at lower prices. That's how tarmi's and kwukducks are created. Sure, we may have some dips here and there, but why would this end now? A day before the auction? Mid-week? Why not a weekend dump? The way I look at it, I have held this long, why sell now? I'm not thinking about selling until we're past the old ATH. This rise has been violent, but that 2 year down trend wasn't pretty either.  We're heading to a new ath by the halving, and I wouldn't be surprised if we tested the old one before 2016.

the auction is tomorrow?

its all making sense now.

I wonder if this guy: Marc Andreessen who just sold 15% of his stake in Facebook for $31.9 million may be playing the market - pushing up the price a little so he can make a successful bid before pumping bitcoin with a limited supply.

Maybe it's Goldman Sachs Lips sealed

Chinese officials have said they will no longer stop the market after it opens in the morning.

Interesting times... ( mind you, they have lied in the past, but even so, hold on...)

Oh that's interesting.Didn't know that until this moment.
Any informative source/link which I can read through?
And yes it could become interesting.Shanghai starts trading in ~ 5 hours. But I will be in bed then.

RIPPLE .

Hey - remember back when Ripple's market cap was greater than Bitcoin's? Yeah - those were the days.

I read a CoinDesk story about ripple today and there was a footnote saying the company that owns CoinDesk is an investor in the company that runs ripple. That's news to me. I have read loads of CoinDesk stories about ripple and I always thought they were unbiased. If I'd known CoinDesk was a ripple investor I wouldn't have taken those stories at face value.

CoinDesk was recently acquired by another company.

Bring up the price to $490 again. I want to see this go as high as it can until it hits the $500 wall like earlier this year.

What are you?  Ridiculous?

There's no $500 wall.

Now, I know what you are talking about.  On November 4, 2015, the $502 was clearly a fast move upwards in which the total bitcoin community was not able to support such a quick uprising in prices or to sustain such a price at that time.  Such a supposed wall is not existent under the current circumstances.

Good luck to you and anyone else who expects to find a wall at $500 and to profit by dumping before $500 this time around.
That is what I meant the resistance of getting past n staying above $500.
Not a wall  Lips sealed

Once we clear 480ish we will cut right through 500 without even blinking.  That said, we will probably consolidate for a little while at this level first.

Another one dreaming :3
I keep seeing post saying we gonna break the 500$ since early December.

You know how I know? None of my non-techie friends, family, or colleagues have so much as heard anything about or mentioned this rise.  Undecided Even some of the techie ones have still yet to hear about it.

I've always said that I'll know that Bitcoin has truly made it when a certain few of them says to me, "So have you heard about this Bitcoin thing yet?"

that's GOOD news. because we are going crazy and no one else has even joined in yet.

last time we were in this range the media was going nuts, now they barely give a shit. but they will about $500 from now. then we get the next bubble which will make many of us here millionaires.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Just got back from from buying a little more, just a half a coin today, but half a coin is better than none at all. Missed the bottom yesterday but hopefully caught it today.

Now we're scrapping over support at $900... currently $918USD at Bitcoinaverage. Meanwhile we're hanging tough at $1208 CAD, basically where we were at Xmas.

Hopefully that was the double bottom that will send it back up.

Double bottom on which timeframe?

There were a few threads in November 2013 discussing the formation of a cup and handle. In this quote from 2013 they were speculating the bottom of the handle was the crash to $180, and that the top of the handle might be $300-$500.

They were too pessimistic, it went to over double that, more than $1100. I'm hoping history repeats itself and we are all being too pessimistic. If we are it could go to over $20k, but I'm pessimistic about it.

A large amount of capitulation (and potential handle) already can be seen from a few weeks ago ("crash" from $230 to $180 or whatever, and the following week).

Yeah, it's really difficult to tell what we might expect to see (obviously), but, it's reasonable to imagine that the launch from the 140-declining-to-130 handle in September could start a run that goes for 2,3,4 or more months with no major corrections. If that happens, we will look back and see the cup-and-handle for what it was-- a sign of yet another level (speculating maybe 300-500 range).
[/quote]
What was the timeframe between the bottom of the handle and the top of 1,2k?

Next week new highs? So far it's holding strong.

Until now it is doing exactly what it should be doing to continue rising next week: Small but significant correction, half recovery and consolidation. Not sure if there will be another test of $1500 before monday... In fact it would be slightly better if it does.

The biggest pump will come when people realise that altcoins can not go on pumping indefinitely and a good chunk of market share returns to BTC. That has not hapenned yet.

Unfortunately. Who knows, maybe that'll happen next week if we go upwards again. I don't enjoy being where we are in terms of this small rise, but it's necessary to go back up. Once those altcoins are sold back to BTC we'll see an enormous bump in price bigger than any we've seen recently.
Looks like that day is coming pretty soon.  The great altcoin bubble has reached its peak - ETH has stabilised around $90-100 and DASH has stabilised around $100.  As soon as people give up - could be in the next couple of weeks - it's time for another rally.
Yes it is. I use my own emotions to check this. I am feeling quite desperate rightnow because of altcoins. This means that the whales will dump soon to trap the noobs that will FOMO on alts. Its all in the wallstreet cycle of doom.
Yes, Btc is still king. I mean, why the hell would you buy litecoin if you can buy bitcoin? Ltc will be dumped to $5 in a bearmarket, btc to $1,000. Yes, possibly you make more ROI with litecoin if you make great decisions, but bitcoin is more steady then altcoins and the dumps will not that hard like alts.

altcoins have grown much more than bitcoin in the last 3months.  Roll Eyes

That just confirms my theory. A lot of people have sold out their bitcoins in the last 3 months expecting some meaningful price correction that never happened.

Wait, are you implicitly saying something like: "They made a big mistake, they sold BTC for altcoins which gave them greater profits."?

Just wait for the big dump in alts, and huge pump in btc. It's all about bitcoin(blockchain)  Cool

O RLY !!!!!

The price is $2770 on Stamp, I'd barely even call that a dump.

It was fully and completely a dump. Would you prefer sell-off? From $3000 to $2600 in an hour is exactly a dump.

From $3000 to $2600 still is little more than 1%

Can we can variations of less than 2% dumps or just noise?

Maybe a retracement because the bull ride above $3000 failed

wat?
