The problem is that since there is a fixed amount of BTC, it incentivizes people to hoard it. Which then causes them to panic dump it when the price falls. What we need is a cryptocurrency with enough inflation to deincentive saving (hording).

The IPO IS them cashing out. Yes they can use their own cash to manipulate the price prior to the IPO, but that would mean buying more coins, the very things they are trying to get rid of. A dangerous game, especially in what is looking more and more like a bear market. And very telling that they applied at time when the price was at the psychologically significant $100 mark. Smells of FEAR to me. Perhaps they are the reason for the gap between us and other exchanges right now as they try to prop up the price

Easiest way to tell is to go to Bitcoinity and put it on the 3 day or 24h timescale. See if the line nudges up to $100 for some period of time.
The answer to your question though, is no. It was put up July 29th ~8:00 AM IIRC.

I've been short term bullish for days, I'm seeing a large bull trap playing out. Polarizing people here don't seem to comprehend that there can be different time frames and different levels of certainty.
That's why I asked.
I'd be more inclined to think it was a bull trap if the Gox queue wasn't so crazy. People withdrawing fiat are stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
I think it goes up to at least $115 just because Gox is giving it nowhere else to go. Gox trap? Gox trap.

Bitstamp hasn't stopped following MtGox's lead (with a spread), so it's safe to say that people are viewing MtGox's price as "real". As someone speculating on MtGox, say MtGox suddenly opened their valves and the withdrawal backlog is cleared within a week, I think there's a good chance for the bull trap to still play out. Maybe stunted. And if MtGox doesn't fix it, the spread will just stay even or increase.
Maybe if they bull trap hard enough Gox will let them in the rumored 5+ digit priority queue

It's worse than that. Long term capital gains have a preferred tax treatment over regular income or barter transactions. So, you're best off liquidating BTC on an exchange and then using fiat to buy goods.

As the asset you are trading increases in value, the same amount of value can be exchanged with smaller amounts.
Look at a stock like Google (GOOG). At it's highest exchange rate (now), the volume (measured in shares) is far less than it was when the exchange rate was much lower. (Yes, I know Bitcoin isn't a stock.)

I bought back 100% BTC. But this feels like a complete house of cards to me. Unless this can sustain until new fiat can come into the market. That is the only thing that can save the bitcoin price at this time.
There is now over 10 million in margin trading on Bitfinex, with the average loan rate of over 200%! How long can these traders afford to pay that premium on their money? It looks absolutely insane right now.

a) one single trader going full retard
b) one huge account got hacked
c) multiple accounts were hacked and were liquidated simultaneously

But could it be possible that the sell out down to 105 on BTCe could possibly be a mind game with the intent to remind all the speculative traders to put more orders in to buy coins? The net effect being that there will be a lot more buy orders on the books because of this, thus increasing confidence on the buy side of the order book and potentially creating price pressure to make the price go up?
For example, personally I trade very little, I keep my coin off the exchanges unless I am doing a bit of buying here and there, but I haven't ever really put in a bunch of wishful thinking low buy orders, now I am considering it! Would a lot more buy orders on the order book even at lower / ridiculous levels raise the price of bitcoins?
it was probably a trader that stayed up all night to read the gox update, when it finally came in, he thought this is it the protocol is broken, and sold in a panic thinking the price would not bounce back because "this is the end of bitcoin"

I had a substantial buy set for months at 505 - it did not get filled when we touched 500.
I can't understand how that happened, if it was an open order how could get pass and sell at 500 when both of us were willing to buy at 505-506?
We noticed this days ago. Sometimes trades happen below what is possible according to the bid depth.
I believe it happened a couple of times when we were at $912 and trades went through around $900 while there was enough bid depth above $900.
Must be another bug that Gox can blame someone else for.

The last few weeks have made me feel as though bitcoin is a long, long, LONG way off from truly mass adoption. If I were a business, no way would I want to introduce this kind of volatility into it. The fact that people agree with this post is frightening. They consistently, flat out lie, and frequently at that ("You can withdraw your USD it will just take a few days, weeks, insert timespan here"). They have about 0 support presence and never respond to the issue at hand until it has substantially effected bitcoins market cap.
