Here is the comparison of Google Trends for the term "buy bitcoin" and Mt.Gox price in the period of the last 90 days.

These two graphs are following the same pattern.

Can we say Google Trends is a good measure of how many NEW interested buyers are coming to BTC market?

I don't say that this is a good prediction tool, but on the other hand, it's a good additional tool for making decisions, because it puts more realism by removing big fish speculators noise from the graph.

why are there hourly dumps for the last three hours? (ca. 12:30, 13:30, 14:30)
next dump in half an hour or am I just seeing things that are not there?

I noticed a similar trend last week. Some very very big player slowly cashing out? Selling a bit at a time to reduce slippage?

But that's kinda silly, he'd be much better off going OTC.

but next dumps should be huge to push to double digits, right?.
Still there's a big wall at 100$

It's almost the time for the fourth push, every dump was stronger than previous, let's see what will happen this time.

Let's put TA aside and think about yesterdays jump from $78  to $90 in a few seconds, then someone put a 10 000 wall on $90. I was thinking why would someone put that wall there at that moment when he can buy coins at lower price?!

Hmm... You will hate me for saying this, but probably he realized that we are going deeper under ground and he has a lot unsold coins, so he pushed the BTC up, then he will sell the coins at higher price and after that he will let the price go down.

It's possible that it's the same person who put those $104 and $120 walls, probably majority of his coins is in that range.

And what is he going to do when he sell us his coins?

Probably he will remove the walls and give us a few downward pushes, it's profitable for him sitting on fiat at that moment.

I know that it's not welcomed to share bearish opinion, I did some analysis and indicators (MFI, RSI, UI, W%R) are telling me that we will probably hit $120 in the next 24h. I don't have an idea will we go below that. Currently, according to average of all significant moving averages, realistic price is approx. $119-$122. We are driving on a extremely low volume, so something will happen that's for sure, maybe even totally opposite to my prediction.

Care to share what time frame and indicators you are looking at?

Sure...,

RSI, Money Flow Index, Ultimate Oscillator and Williams %R indicators. Best results are at 6h or 2h intervals (I prefer 6h), various time-frames... You can find all of them at bitcoincharts.com. For analyzing long time frames I can recommend log scale. Technical analysis can help, but on this kind of heavy manipulated market, it should not be taken as granted. I prefer to watch the news, but the real one, not China hype, Paypal WILL PROBABLY, MtGox domain WILL PROBABLY, but something like, Wordpress STARTED using, OKCupid STARTED, MetArt STARTED, etc...

I haven’t watched volume on multiple exchanges but there can't be much trade on the other floors if price action is so low?

MtGOX's volume was falling relative to other non-Chinese exchanges, and it had already lost its first place among them.  As you can see from the tables that I have been posting, after they locked their exit doors their trade volume paradoxically exploded, from ~15 kBTC/day to ˜100 kBTC on certain days.  Who knows how much of that is legitmate and how much is generated by the exchange itself.

In the next 48h beside volume, price will explode upward too. I don't think that whoever can will skip the opportunity to buy BTC at this exchange rate, so as bank wires slowly arrive to Gox we will see price go up until Thursday. After that I don't know what will happen, depends on Gox announcement.

How many times are these idiots gonna do the same thing? After every crash they pop up with the same shit. Then we go up again and you won't hear them anymore untill the next crash.

They're not anything different than the trolls here it just occured to me. Funny.
I don't care about direction where we are going, I'm more concerned with the behavior on this board. Two years ago we were more mature, with more serious analysis and polite conversation, no matter where we are heading. Lately, everyone feels free to insult everyone, we need to calm down and develop some respect for each other, it would be much better for us and bitcoin. Just imagine how new members of this forum react when they visit this forum for the first time... They feel like they are visiting zoo and see bunch of monkeys, throwing insults, "moons" and "looses" all around and creating so much mess, after that they just adopt this model of behavior. I can't blame moderators because no one can moderate this, problem is just too big for anyone to moderate.

no new money, everyone is selling / spending

some latest news:
BitLicense comment period an additional 45 days, bitcoin will be seriously limited and people will lose interest and leave bitcoin, you will see more shits like this coming out later, please call it "a hidden US ban on bitcoin"
China central bank has a new ban coming soon, under the name of "anti money laundering" because ALL chinese exchangers are using "illegal coupons through 3rd party" to deposit/withdraw, they can't do it legally because ALL chinese banks REFUSED to work with them months ago, it's like central bank saying to exchangers: "You have been warned not engage in any bitcoin business since long time ago but you carried on regardless, so don't blame me if i kick your ass hard time by time"
Thanks for the detailed info

Verge of Breakout.. Today is Full MOON  Grin

http://recode.net/2014/09/08/ebay-payments-unit-braintree-to-let-merchants-accept-bitcoin/

September 8, 2014, 9:43 AM PDT

Braintree, the eBay subsidiary that runs a payment system used by popular mobile apps, plans to announce that its customers can start accepting bitcoin, according to two sources.

The move would allow websites and apps that run payments through Braintree (part of eBay’s PayPal) to start accepting bitcoin as a payment method, these people said. Braintree’s most popular customers include Uber, Airbnb and HotelTonight. It’s not clear which, if any, of these customers will choose to accept the digital currency.

The move is not expected to extend to PayPal or eBay, at least for now. One source said Braintree is working with bitcoin company Coinbase to process the bitcoin payments.

Braintree is expected to announce the news in the near future — perhaps as early as today. The Wall Street Journal first reported that Braintree was in talks with bitcoin companies to accept the digital currency.

A bitcoin is generated when computers running specialized software solve complex mathematical equations. It has gained popularity over the past year as speculators have bought the currency with the hope that its value will increase over time. Some well-known companies, including Dell and Overstock.com, have also started to accept bitcoin as a payment method. Bitcoin is currently valued at about $476, after soaring above $1100 late last year.

This means absolutely nothing. It's not a significant news at all, it will not produce buying nor selling pressure, it will just produce a small playground for speculators to play 1-2 day game with a small fluctuation.

Satoshi e-mail hack won't directly influence the bitcoin market, because hacker won't find private keys in Satoshi's inbox, hacker doesn't have access to Satoshi's bitcoin wallet.

On the other hand, Satoshi's e-mail hack can indirectly influence the bitcoin market because Satoshi identity might be revealed. People could be satisfied with the info who Satoshi is (crypto-anarchist, God...), also could be unsatisfied with the info who Sathoshi is (some corrupted corporation, NSA, CIA...) and that could influence direction where we are heading.

At the end, if you worry too much, this news is probably nothing.

remember, every time new merchant jumps in - just sell.

Well, I don't think that way, I am aware of that, but PayPal was probably the biggest obstacle to BTC acceptance and I don't see PayPal as a merchant, I see them as one of the biggest internet financial companies. You know what happened before to PayPal users who used BTC? Their accounts were blocked. I think that PayPal BTC acceptance will have more influence then merchant selling pressure. I mean more acceptance means more users, more users means more money. Only way I see this latest PayPal news is like PayPal saying we must work with BTC or we are doomed. If they are aware of that, can you imagine where BTC is going?

sorry for asking, but why would I ever want to spend my BTC and pay all the fees to paypal? isn't the whole point of BTC to avoid charges? add to that the fees for USD/BTC conversion.

all I see in paypal accepting btc is selling/redistribution of old cheap coins.

It will happen you are right, there will be selling pressure, but also what will happen is more people coming into out small community of BTC users at much faster pace, which will have more influence than selling pressure. More people without BTC who will buy BTC just because PayPay said they should not fear of BTC. PayPal is something like internet religion, I think that there is a huge army of people who only watch PayPal moves and plan their strategy according to that. When PayPal adds new option there is a huge number of people who just want to try the new option, now when BTC is a new PayPal option, get ready for the revolution.

I don't think it's sustainable for BTC to go lower then this, I think that we touched the bottom in October. There is always a possibility that it could drop further, but I don't think that BTC can survive that. Because I think that there is a large number of serious players in the BTC game, I don't think they will allow for BTC to be destroyed. Also, I see as very positive momentum on BTC exchange rate the fact that Pirate and SR2 were brought to the justice, not from the aspect of how many BTC are removed from the market, more because I think that it's the sign that serious players initiated that action, so BTC could be on more solid ground. I also expect that the case of Gox thief will be closed too, very soon.

triple bottom?

DEFINITION of 'Triple Bottom'

Quote
A pattern used in technical analysis to predict the reversal of a prolonged downtrend. The pattern is identified when the price of an asset creates three troughs at nearly the same price level. The third bounce off the support is an indication that buying interest (demand) is outweighing selling interest (supply) and that the trend is in the process of reversing.

wow it seem ppl are waiting for december auction then it will rally or dive   Smiley

The price dropped ~50 dollars on June 13, when the previous auction was announced; and immediately recovered when it became known that a single bidder had bought all the coins.  Most people concluded from that fact that the closing price was above market.  Tim Draper's statements further reassured them that the coins would not be dumped on the open market.

I did not see any significant drop this time.  Perhaps the market now assumes that such auctions will have no net effect, and ignores them.

On the other hand, there is no guarantee that all the coins will again be scooped by a single bidder.  So far, Tim Draper got a huge paper loss on that purchase, and it seems that he will only enter a syndicate this time (meaning that he intends to bid for less than one lot).  Some of these 50'000 coins may be bought, well below-market, by short-term traders who will promptly dump them for quick profit.  If the coins go to several bidders, the mere suspicion that some may be dumpers may be enough to trigger a drop.

so the next 144 hours are critical to bitcoin... !!!!

How long after the last auction did Draper actually receive his coins? I would guess it took a few days (if not a week or more).

the most important is the auction result... if its seem bad then ppl start dumping right away they dont wait

Well how much will public know actually ?

Means there is a chance of the coins going to be dumped on exchanges at sight?

Or just manipulation to scare people and lower the price?

I have a funny feeling Citi and the other "prospective bidders" are selling the story of bidding on the coins at a great discount in order to get the other bidder to low-ball the bid so they can get their coins at or just under market price.

No bidder would willingly show their hand, seems like a classic poker bluff to me.

Citi is not an auction participant AFAIK

I'm not sure how this auction will take place or what it will look like so correct me if I'm wrong, but an auction is something where bidders try to overbid each other. Wouldn't it increase the value then? Besides who would sell off their bought Bitcoins immediately? Especially such a volume. No, they're going to hold it.

Unless it's a private auction where the public has no idea how much the final bidder actually paid.

We already had 2 similar auctions and the same pattern happens, pump and dump without reason, before auction moon, after auction pigs get slaughtered.

Sorry to break the bullishness guys!
It's possible, but don't you think that the hope of another 2013 will keep it going? Not to mention the charts aren't actually showing anything catastrophic at this point.
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me

The fact that this insane run-up buying is from the same kind of players that accentuated the 2013 bubble, It could only burst. I think we will go sideways/slow bleed and test support 300 at some point, until the next halving bubble !

Still amazed by the euphoria and empty ask at $500  (not achieved for 2 years) , hoping for more..greed at its finest!
Very nice analysis

this was the fbi pumping it up for their auction today, nothing more.
When did the FBI start controlling Chinese markets in such volumes?

Still the $300 seems like a harsh reality.
I would not call it harsh reality, I would call it good progress, if 300 holds it would be something, remember only 20days ago we were @ $250. As more realistic we are, more progress we will make. With this pumps and dumps we look like a joke to other serious traders.

I agree, for example this micro-rally volume was 2x smaller than needed in order for growth to be sustainable. Actually I can freely say that even that volume spike, we would not pass $250 if there was no OkCoin manipulation.

The faster bulls give up the better.

$300/320 is the target - after that we'' see an oscillating price up to $450 till jan/feb. - it'll feel more or less like sideways.

It's a process 8up.

Neither side will just give up, and surely there are also some rogue elements within pushes for either price direction.

Also, your personal target does not signify that it is going to materialize, people have various opinions, and since investment involves people, technical analysis is not always going to capture with certainty when exactly price directions are going to change or if such change in direction is for sure.

Sure, I can agree with your statement, market is a living tissue, any news can change the sentiment, a lot of people think different and at the end it, all of this determines the direction where the market is heading.

On the other side, I can say that IF fundamentals don't change, no significant news or breakthroughs, I can agree with the first target +/- something, at least from the TA side. Also, I can't agree with the second target in the given time frame.

Quote
Two indictments, unsealed Tuesday, tied three of four suspects to previously reported hacks of JPMorgan Chase & Co., E*Trade Financial Corp., Scottrade Financial Services Inc. and Dow Jones & Co., a unit of News Corp.

Hackers and conspirators in more than a dozen countries generated hundreds of millions of dollars in illicit proceeds om pump-and-dump stock schemes and particularly lucrative online gambling, prosecutors said.

The global network, with 100 employees and co-conspirators, stretched from Israel to the U.S., with a dozen online casinos and payments that ran through Cyprus, Azerbaijan and Switzerland.

The co-conspirators deceived financial institutions into processing and authorizing payments to and from the casino companies and others, prosecutors wrote in their latest indictment of Gery Shalon, Joshua Aaron and Ziv Orenstein, who they say are at the center of the scheme. Shalon and Orenstein were arrested in Israel in July. Aaron remains at large.

Sounds like they needed to use Bitcoin.

Likely, they already do.  According to Europol, Bitcoin accounts for over 40% of criminal-to-criminal online payments. Smiley

The last time there was not much movement in price. There was just a lot of talk.

Price on the day of halving went from about $12.20 to $12.35.

Exactly one year later the price was over $1,100.

Actually, 4-5 months later it peaked at $1100 $266, but you must be aware that price doubled 2 months after halving and tripled 3 months after halving. I think that this time the change will be even faster, because mining is way to more competitive compared to 2013, miners have to dump as soon as they mine the BTC if they want to stay in game.

I agree that the change will be faster, but with lower rewards larger outfits will have to dump more often to recover their costs (as you rightly point out), leading to downward pressure, not upwards. Is this the change you are talking about?
No, I think completely opposite. Miners are already dumpers No.1, not because they love to dump, but because they have to dump in order to pay huge expenses and to do it before the competition (in order to get the better exchange rate and if possible push the competition outside the game). Their pace of dumping will be completely the same as it is now, but the amount of BTC that miners can dump will be 2x smaller then currently. Because the pace of dumping by miners is much quicker compared to 2012-2013, I expect that we will feel the positive effects on BTC price much quicker compared to 2013. Also because number of coins in circulation is now bigger, I don't expect 26x jump in price, but let's say we could expect at least 5x (I assume inverse quadratic function here). Because of human psychology and they constant urge to have new ATH, price will be 100% larger than previous ATH and will probably position itself at $3000 in 2015 2016.
