So it projects that the price will top out around $125 and start to fall after that?

It doesn't project anything, it reports what has happened, and what is happening.

I fell asleep after "can't you" and now I can't even remember the question.

The current trend shows a remarkable degree of self-symmetry at even the smallest meaningful magnification. Interestingly, the symmetry just had an aberration. I can't tell you what that means, but I was startled.

Edit: Did anyone else see this?  It was only there for a few seconds.

The moment it becomes impossible to get any money out of the system (back into fiat) that's the moment it becomes near worthless.

I don't think you understand how Bitcoin works.

If I am willing to sell $100 worth of goods for a Bitcoin, and I can safely assume that an equitable exchange is being offered by somebody else, then that sets the value. It isn't about getting dollars back out at the end.

Looking at it as a price-first-then-trade instead of trade-first-then-price valuation system is putting the cart before the horse, and has a negative impact on the actual utility of Bitcoins.

You are seriously one of the best trolls i've seen in a long time.

Your time seems to extend all the way back to April 08, 2013, 03:13:50 PM.

I was there when it was still not possible to buy from Mt.Gox with more than $1000 per day without influencing the price by 10%+, for which reason I regarded it as a childrens' playground (and later paid 500kEUR+ for my mistake)

Date Registered:   07 October 2012, 20:52:21

 isn't that far back either...

What I think is funny about this, is that a few years from now all of us on these forums now will look like grey old men compared to the people flooding in. Even the newbies.

I have no problem interpreting chartbuddy, it gives me the moving spot-price snapshot.

Let's focus on the real issue. People like posting walls, and chart buddy makes them redundant. Look at this page, most of the posts are from chartbuddy. It has a negative effect on the overall quality of the tread because it derails discussion and we end up focusing on dumb stuff. This is fine, but I think everything would be better if we went back to a human dominated wall observer.

Everyone could ignore it, but it doesn't honestly solve the problem of making people redundant. There should really be two threads, but chartbuddy would keep itself on the front page permanently, opening the floodgates for behavior like that.

To return this thread to normal, and avoid robot invasion I suggest that the issue be put to a vote.

EDIT: vote here.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=209890.0

Rational sellers would pull their walls and move them to Gox. It wouldn't be instantaneous, but it would happen.

Well that's one way of looking at it, but it's wrong.

I am willing to bet 1 BTC that within two years there will be at least 10 times as many people using Bitcoin than use it today, as indicated by the number of client downloads. If you really think it's a safe bet, and you really think we missed our chance to get users, put up.

It doesn't even matter if it is BTC or USD$, if the VALUE goes over US$10K adding ALL foreign accounts of anything you have to file.  So if you have US$5K in gold in Switzerland, and $5K worth of BTC, you are at the minimum to file.

I hold my bitcoins, I hold cash, I don't need to tell them anything if I had $10k worth of pounds in cash do I?

I could see the argument (however facile) that somebody storing $10k worth of BTC on gox has a foreign account worth $10k though.

Only if the bids filled in faster than asks at a rate that supports selling without slippage.

my personal opinion is that bubbles should be spaced out longer than the time period between the last 2 bubbles as it takes longer for new innovations to bring about new growth curves.  the time period between the last 2 bubbles was about 21 months.  it is been only 6 months and people are already expecting another bubble event...

But so much has changed.

Haha...... $204.18 per coin is so INSANELY UNDERVALUED that you buy ALL-IN in the beginning of the week, LMAO

There is literally no reason for the price to hover at 204 for yet another week. Do you really think it will go down?

That's a good point. Remittances are a big immediate application for Bitcoin.

To illustrate - imagine lots of expatriated Indians are sending bitcoins home. Lots of family members are cashing these out for their local currency (Rupees). The market in India is experiencing a glut in the supply of bitcoins, and the price drops.

Arbitrageurs will spring into action, buying up bitcoins for Rupees, selling them for dollars on Western exchanges, exchanging the dollars back into Rupees, and wiring them to India.

However, the price differential will never shrink (at equilibrium) below the costs of arbitrage. Unless it is somehow cheaper for the arbitrageurs to wire that money to India than it is for the expatriates, Bitcoin will not offer advantages except perhaps speed.

People in india would probably be willing to sell BTC for USD, as USD can be used on the street in India quite easily.

This 'crash' was triggered by real world events. TA may be right in retrospect, but if it was wrong, it would still be right in retrospect later.

Sure, if somebody dumps $100,000 on the market it moves 1%.

This would have been astounding less than a year ago.

It is not dishonest if people know it is a zero-sum game with uncertain odds, before they join.

No that is wrong, the test for dishonesty is not dependant on the recipients understanding, it is dependant on the perpetrators intent. (or an objective test - by the 'man in the street')

The Ponzi case has a very specific legal meaning, blurring this meaning,  invalidates the comparison.

Sorry, but the way in which you relate through syntax the semantic meaning 'Bitcoin is honest', is not to say 'bitcoin is not dishonest' because then you haven't said ANYTHING, you just told us what it ISN'T.

You don't need to solve the equations though. In a deterministic universe, if you know precisely the starting conditions, you could run a simulation and get the prediction. Chaos theory says that small perturbations in the starting conditions can lead to vastly different outcomes. Quantum physics says small perturbations are intrinsic. Even with two initially identical systems, things will occur in one which will not in the other.

This is precisely why I don't believe in the concept of free will.

Humans are too complex to model, but in the long run we won't be.

this thread is backed by nothing. this giant blah-blah bubble will crash hard. lawsky will put some stiff regulation on it, china has plans to ban it and adam will pull a karpeles and steal all your posts. centralized wall observer threads are history, you bulltards just don't want to see the truth.

I'm planning to delete all my posts as soon as we hit 12000 pages, take my profits, and only start posting again at ~5000 pages,

Upside down flag/stairs!! If you are a goofy trader (like me) don't treat this like regular volatility and expect a full bounce back into the 400's right away. Either: (a) lower leverage (we'll definitely see the 400's and higher again, but not right away); or (2) sell and take a small loss rather than a big loss.

Disclaimer -- I was long at 400, was looking pretty good earlier today, had the big drop, just exited at 387 and took a small loss... I figure I can buy back cheaper in the days and weeks to come especially because nobody is going to want to be a punch-line and overbid the market, again, like Draper.

Disclaimer #2 -- That's what I'm seeing, but Lord knows this s--- is pure guesswork.

Since we're actually talking about Bitcoin, what I see right now is a price floor gradually creeping up. The price keeps bouncing off it.

Soooo, I'm thinking of posting a bounty for the 20 posts that are successful at landing on page 10,000 ... just to keep it interesting.

Say, 50,000 bits for every one of the 20 post that lands on page 10k?
You're a monster. Do it.

Quote from: JorgeStolfi on November 24, 2014, 05:47:21 AM
But a great idea...we definitely need further incentive for post-dumping and page manipulation.

You mean, leveraged posting?

You mean I could get 20 posts for every post I write? How could I lose!

I am pretty sure everyone thought the coins would sell for significantly less than market price last time too but we all know that didn't happen.

Why would anyone have thought that?

Because they're smarter than a fruit fly?

But it doesn't make sense, if they were going to sell them below market, why not just sell them at market.

For those who have yet to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joBstnvvDFw&feature=player_detailpage

About 17 minutes in he makes a phenomenally stupid argument about gold '1000 years from now, somebody will say its in a 7000 year bubble'. More likely, 1000 years from now we will have been mining asteroids for 950 years, and gold will have fallen to its intrinsic (use case) value.

Strongly. Were gonna rally to ~260 in a week, then stabilize above 266 for about a month before the next enormous rally. Thats my call.

consolidation below 385?

Well I honestly never know anything, so take what I say at no value: The 'double bottom' and descending peaks in the last 24 hours look like a pennant, and I expect a consolidation at 400 followed by a breakout, which only makes sense to be up.

Its all part of a larger consolidation, and this fractal is.
