BTC-e has just added GBP but only via OKpay as far as I can see

So Chinese people can still buy GPB at btc-e to trade cryptocoins using OKpay? Correct? As I understand bitcoin is not illegal in China. If it were to be it would just be the government shooting them self in the foot since they will be used anyway, at least on the black market.

I think I'll cut my roughly 10% losses on BTC & LTC since last week and go all in on XCP since the first easy to access DEX will be live from tomorrow on the online Counterwallet https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395761.6980 , I can easily see a 400% + rise coming to put it on a level cap with the as of yet useless mastercoin.

Could you maybe give a run down of the basics of xcp??

There's just something off about this rally. I understood the rally after silk road closed.  I understood the rally after Gox closed. I don't understand balls to the wall in China when The PBoC has not reversed policy or no major exchange has closed. A market that suddenly changes direction without a retest of support and news that amounts to a loophole that may or may not be closed?

To use Alan Greenspan's term, it looks like "irrational exuberance".  Demand that appears this suddenly can disappear just as suddenly. Supply that can disappear suddenly can reappear suddenly.

Why such confusion? Did you really understand the decline from 600 to 340 in face of nothing but positive news and developments? To me, that was the irrational part. The exuberance starts when we cross the exponential trendline somewhere around 2000.

Explanation
Is it just me or is the buy wall growing bigger each day right now? And the number of bitcoin days destroyed is dropping, the bad news has passed, lots of good news everyday and they're running the annual BTC conference in Amsterdam right now.

Look at this for example:
http://www.coindesk.com/overstock-ceo-delivers-historically-charged-keynote-bitcoin-2014/

Quote
Staying true to his style, during the question and answer round today Byrne revealed that he had plans for potentially listing his company on “a block chain kind of a stock exchange.”

Watching his words, he said: “I would already be interested in issuing a bond or something, so we could be the first to list this sort of security.”

He revealed that Overstock was in the early stages of looking at the legal propriety of dual listing on NASDAQ and another stock exchange. While they have not ironed out any concrete plans, he said:

This will probably be on the Mastercoin protocol, or maybe but less likely on the counterparty protocol. Anyway we are seeing the future of money coming true here guys. It's amazing!

An other thing is that for geeks, or mathematicians it will maybe not a problem to pay a coffee 0.000000000198562 btc, of course here we still have double cash and information displays

Actually there is a problem here the geeks and the mathematicians will see : you can't pay less than a satoshi, so "0.000000000198562 btc" is just wrong.

The minimum value is 0.000,000,01 BTC = 0;01 µBTC

And two coffees are worth about 10 mBTC today, I don't see where the display problem is.

Actually it's possible to add 16 extra decimals to BTC so whenever that's a problem, it wont be a problem.

Yup. Good question.
She's gone quiet from the moment we went up.
Considering she lives in a fantasy world she probably just couldn't believe we went up and refused to buy back in as her buy orders at 280 weren't filled and now she finally woke up realizing she has a big problem.
It's quite hilarious how she has dissapeared since.

Recollection: TERA said he's planning to take a break from trading, and prefers to do so while being (mostly) in XBT.

Conjecture: TERA bought back his coins back 2 days ago, front-running the breakout, causing the rally we see at the moment.

NXT, more than any other coin and ecosystem has already decoupled from Bitcoin.

NXT price is hindered by the lack of exposure - the inability to implement its code into large exchanges like Mintpay due to the fact that its not a bitcoin clone. This has caused the dissemination of coins to be slowed down and a price "cap" to be forced on the coin for a long time now.

However, it has no less than 100 different development projects in the works, more than any other coin besides BTC.

NXT is a long term play, imo.  It might be at around the same price it is today (in BTC terms) 6 months from now. But when it "pops" it has the potential to pop big and have that pop be sustained.

Its definitely the lead dog in the 2.0 world. For now at least.

I guess no one told you about Mastercoin

Since you are relaying it, one would think that you found it valid in some way  Wink
I just found it in this newspost from May 26, among other theories:

Still trying to understand the cause of the really. (It may even be the log trendline theory -- if/while enough traders believe in it, that alone may make it be true.)

You can't understand why bitcoin is rising in price?
That's because you don't understand bitcoin.
You also don't understand dollar, euro and pund and neither do you understand the difference between bitcoin and the fiat currencies.

I'm sure that they will take the necessary precautions so they don't hit 51%, but still... What do you think?

I think the problems will fix it self and miners move to another pool. No one wants a 51% attack.

That looks like a fairly awesome app for Android users.    I have an IPhone, so there is no iphone version.  Maybe someday soon Apple will allow the return of some of these kinds of apps to the ITunes store?

In case you missed the news, they already allow bitcoin apps again.
Now it is up to the developers.

YES>>>> I saw some of the new articles about Apple re-allowing some of the crypto-currency apps (possibly applying to bitcoin transmittal and storage apps).

Accordingly, I have been searching the Apple Itunes store for "new" or "renewed" bitcoin apps.  Initially, I thought that the Coinbase and Blockchain app would re-emerge in the store (since they were already there in December 2013 and March 2014 respectively), and then probably we would witness some other apps in the ITunes store... such as the cool Coinbase related app that you pointed out (Coinbase Trader).... however, so far, NO new or returning apps have appeared in the ITunes store.

Certainly, there has been some statements of optimism in the bitcoin space concerning this news concerning Apple; however, I remain of the belief that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I will believe it when I see certain kinds of bitcoin apps (such as wallets and transmitting apps) reappear in the ITunes store.  Crossing my fingers - hoping for the best.

Are you gonna sell your coins?

No. No way. Let's just hope Ghash.IO stops doing this and possibly returns to 49%.

Guys, 50% is not a magical number. A pool at 49% is almost as dangerous as a pool at 51%.

The probability of a pool solving another 5 blocks in a row after solving the first one is 2.8% at 49% of total hashrate and 3.45% at 51% of total hashrate. Sure there is a difference, but you can't say a pool at 49% isn't something to worry about.

Could some miners change their pool?? Like immediately. What's so special about Ghash.IO that they get so many miners connected???

I don't really understand why you are short-term worried of the share of one pool. I heard that in 24 hours, it had shrunk from 51% to 34%, which means that the community was able to redirect 1/3 of the hashing previously sent to Ghash to other pools. IN 24 HOURS! In decentralized way! Wow.

It remains somewhat of a concern that a malicious entity can own 76% of the hashing power, but a pool where people voluntarily send 51% is not a realistic threat to the Bitcoin ecosystem. Calm down. The problem was solved already, proving that it was not much of a problem.

Could someone confirm that Ghash is only at 36% now?

I just wonder how much of it is cloud mining.

Not much I think. Just think about it how many % of the mining power available is cloud mining? Most people would probable buy their own rigs instead.

It would be nice if we could make this place less about JorgeIdiot and more about Bitcoin.
Eventhough i have him on ignore his bullshit still fills most of the page.
I wish that guy would get a life. But i guess this is what narcissistic sociopaths do.

...he usually adds a particularly stupid question as 'reply bait'. People think they're being helpful, maybe even educating him, but all they're doing is feeding the schmuck and holding his scabby little dick while he pisses on our carpet
Please stop quoting shoormskit. He's on my ignore.

the important point is that  turning USD into bitcoin requires a bank transfer (BT) of some sort. (Out of curiosity, are there exchanges that accept credit card?).
Well,  [ ... ] there are other ways to obtain bitcoins that don't involve a BT.   Just to name a few: localbitcoin (peer to peer exchange), ATM (Robocoin/Lamassu), mining (as unfeasible or expensive it may seem, it's still a valid method), donations (remember the "Hi mom, send bitcoin here" sign a few months ago?), or even salary (yes, there are employers who offer this opportunity to their employees).
The ATM is another layer between you and the banks.  Namely, the cash is deposited into the ATM company's bank account, and transfered to the bank account of some exchange in order to buy moer bitcoins.  The fee of that BT is included in the ATM fee.

Granted that there need not be any BT for localbitcoin transactions that are paid in cash; but  that requires meeting the BTC seller in person, which is not the most convenient thing in the world.  (I read an amusing tale of such a transaction, somewhere on this forum, that took several hours and ended with the buyer feeling obliged to help the seller load some heavy furniture onto a truck.)

Mining and donations would fall into the cases of "have BTC", rather than "have USD".
..............
In general, payment from USD in your bank to USD in the merchant's bank via bitcoin cannot be cheaper than paying directly in USD, since the latter is just one BT, the former is two BTs and other stuff in the middle. The bitcoin path may seem to be cheaper only because the second BT is hidden in the Coinbase fee, and the first BT is paid beforehand and thus does not feel like it is part of the payment.
Actually this is true. But can you pay with dollar bills straight to dell? No not on their website, obviously. You must have a bank account together with a card. And for that it will be fees. Also if you would like to move your USD around the world it will be fees and lots of restrictions. Bitcoin is free!!!

2014, the year of bitcoin they said. It's good to see some of the (former?) delusional minds in this thread having a change of heart Smiley Welcome back to sanity guys.

Ermmm maybe if the only measure you are looking at is price, and you are looking in the past 24 hours...   in almost every other measure... this is (and will continue to be) the year of Bitcoin... plus it is July, I think you meant to post your post in January 2015.

I stand corrected, you are 100% right. Who cares about the price Smiley Not many I would think! Dell accepts btc, awesome! Price drops. Good sign.

That's right, Dell accepting bitcoin is good for Bitcoin. Not necessarily for bitcoin holders who think they can become rich by doing nothing and holding coins. See the difference? Smiley

Actually this is very true... Dell accepting bitcoin is good for bitcoin, though in the short run is price increase really good for bitcoin? Everytime price explodes it eventually pops and drops. I think it's the nature of the coin, it needs to act like this,

Probably repeating the reversal back in 2013

We peaked at 95.2 from a bottom of 63     ----    95.2/63=1.51     1.51x275=415.5

Had a beartrap down to 77 after that    -----      77/95.2=0.81        0.81x415=336

So probably gonna see 336 this weekend briefly. I suggest putting bid orders there as price won't be there for long
If we are to repeat this pattern, I will try to get as much fiat as possible to the exchanges(loans Wink) during the small consolidation period

You better watch out, because some posters here believe that bulltrolls are the same as beartrolls (merely opposites)...
It's definitely not the same thing. If I post highly speculative stuff that is bearish, usually I'll get insulted left and right. If I do it in bullish, noone will give a shit and some will approve. Cheesy

Fair enough.  Therefore, it is probably NOT good to post any FUD; however, if you are going to post FUD that goes contrary to the weight of the evidence and/or contrary to the bullish concepts in the BTC world, then you better back it up with some evidence, rather than just throwing it out there without any evidence.

Maybe some may consider my above statement to be a double standard, but in reality, it is NOT a double standard because many of us who participate in this thread that are informed about bitcoin understand quite a few of the basics of the BTC fundamentals, and if posters are posting information that is contrary to those BTC basics, then the posters better have some fucking evidence...otherwise suffer the rath...... In this regard, either shut the fuck up or give a logical explanation regarding why the poster does NOT have evidence while taking into account BTC basics.

turn it off for profit.

I don't have any web-shield.

I expect the bottom to be between $200-$240. If you're feeling lucky....

Is it 10x leverage on okcoin?

No it's bitfinex opened at 367 should've closed when we were at 387 but never did.

Opened a 10x at okcoin yesturday but it's margin called already. That was only 0.33BTC luckily.

Let's cut to the chase, which altcoin do you recommend?  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

None especially at the moment, but Paycoin seems interesting, perhaps it will be even more interesting than Neo & Bee.  I had great hopes for Brock Pierce's RealCoin, but I have never heard of it again.  I wonder if Autumn Radtke was working on one.  Perhaps Sergei Mavrodi will launch something, now that he is in the Bitcoin Foundation?

Thanks for the highly researched information. I've just traded all my bitcoin for Paycoin. Looking forward to the interesting ride. Going to get paycoin logo tattooed on my ass now. Hopefully they wont change it again.
Realcoin changed name to tether and it's possible to ask for an invite to the trial right now. However I've waited for it for over a month but still didn't get any.

Edit: off-topic, but there's nothing else to talk about in this thread tonight! Smiley

In quick words I'm quoting:

From what I understand, MaidSafe is basically for creating decentralized applications for anything. They want to decentralize all aspects of the internet. Storj on the other hand is specifically decentralized data storage (dropbox like service)

I would expect that it won't be long for someone to suggest a core change which blocks or otherwise restricts transactions against those early addresses.  This would dispel the spectre of the early days and then maybe Satoshi can step out of the shadows and claim credit for his work without risking his life or that of his family/friends.

If bitcoin survives and grows, I think that it is quite likely that the protocol will be amended with a government-mandated "black list" of coins that cannot be moved, and a "white list" of transactions that must be accepted even without a valid signature.

If bitcoin succeeds, it is even possible that the current blockchain will have to be junked, and a new blockchain be restarted with suitable legal constraints and devices.

In either case, the bitcoiners who understand the goals of bitcoin will surely scream and claim (with reason) that those violations of the basic principles render the coin worthless.  The other 99% will not even understand what the fuss is about, and will mostly ignore the changes, or even approve them...

May I ask what the professor thinks about projects like maidsafe and ethereum?

There's been hundreds of millions of usd invested in bitcoin startups. I sometimes wonder if even one or two of these entities or their investors are using a few mil to stave off further declines. Not trying to run a rally all by themselves, but putting a floor, and at least sow some doubt in the minds of weak handed hodlers and shotrers.

Yeah but those start-ups are not only for bitcoin but for crypto currencies as a whole. Even if bitcoin won't be the new world currency, another crypto will and those companies will just adjust. Also exchanges makes money whatever the price is.

Closing in on $265.

Gotta stay up a little longer. See how far it goes before the inevitable correction.

You've been around about the same amount of time as me Jimbo.... there were times when there simply was no correction...they are not always inevitable, although the last 18 months does tend to give one a pessimistic demeanour.

Yeah, we've both seen some some crazy moves both up and down. I didn't join the forum until a little over 2 years ago but I've been following Bitcoin since it was $12.

All the way up on the way to $266 in March 2013 I was daytrading a small amount (10-20 coins) taking advantage of the "inevitable" dDOS attack on MtGox after every leg up. It seemed like clockwork.

Lately it seems like every time it crosses a psychological barrier, it takes a small step back to catch its breath. I don't usually subscribe to pessimism (I think it's childish) but I do try to be realistic.

Meanwhile, while I've been typing this, I see it's up another couple of bucks. Bully.

It seems very, very counterproductive, it's like giving another mortgage to a guy who can't pay the mortgage on his current property, the answer is known before you even ask the question - he is going to default again & again & again.

Greece are a disaster, what use are they to the other countries in the eurozone?
They can't pay back what they owe now, why give them even more?
It's not like the Greek economy is going to boom or somebody finds oil on Greek soil Grin

Norway is part of the EU market through the EEA. Until recently we paid a reduced EU membership fee, but the EU didn't see any point in giving rich outsiders discount entry so now we pay the same as the rest of the EU countries. We adopt EU legislation without ever having any influence on its creation. And even though we pay as much as the rest, our citizens are not EU-citizens and our businesses are not EU-businesses and as such not eligible to apply for EU funds for development projects and similar. It would be just as painful for us to leave the EU market as it would be for any EU member state. So if you want to do like Norway... strike oil.

What keeps me away from litecoin is the fact that in the end it's just like any other shitcoin expect its the most popular because it was the first really good alt. but sooner or later it's going to get displaced as the king of alts, we'll see a few brand new alts emerge that are built from the ground up, something like NXT or ETH, "bitcoin 2.0" shit coins, that will actually offer something other than bitcoin with a few tweets, and also side chains are going to make altcoins more and more irelevent. I can't imagine how LTC will hold up in the long term.

Yep agreed and IMO bitcoin will also be replaced as the most valued crypto. Sooner or later another "coin" will be out there with enough advantages to make bitcoin look like 2009. To be honest, I feel like I'm at the stone age every time I need to wait for a block to clear my transaction. The huge blockchain is another issue, what is it now, like 35GB? The wasteful mining is also a problem, we're basically just burning energy which could be used for better thing like food, heating or transportation. Bitcoin is a cool experiment and I'm privileged to have had the opportunity to follow it's growing for more than two and a half year, but this is not our new world reserve currency. Neither is litecoin, monero or NXT. ETH perhaps, but I'd found that unlikely too.

The question is if bitcoin can do one more bubble.  Cool

What happens after banks are closed for two weeks? Civil unrest? riots?

Greek banks will be closed tomorrow.

I'm currently trading this. My guess is up. It's a classic ascending triangle trend continuation, where buyers aggressively outbid each other to get their limit bids filled. This results in rising bottoms. Eventually it breaks up when there's no lower prices to be had and the resulting market orders push up the price through resistance.

Or not  Wink

It's going down down down down. Everybody hodl btc. unhodl ltc.
