Mhh my pc is shutdown in the night any android solution?
I'm mulling over the idea of SMS price alerts once I implement non-USD currencies, but maybe a native iOS and Android app would be a better idea.

Search for Bitcoin Ticker in app store for iOS. It has Alerts.

I just made .3 btc on stamp from the move.. why the hell don't they have a unified screen where you can cancel and place orders, too many clicks navigating around the site.  Otherwise, I am digging stamp, way cheaper commissions = I can make money and not just give it all to gox.

The UI needs help though way too convoluted to reach your open orders unless i'm missing something.
I keep 4 tabs open: open orders, recent transactions, order book and buy/sell.
Fewer clicks. You can also cancel your open orders from the oder book screen by clicking on the order which conrains your order (green triangle in the corner)

Does everybody realize that public opinion is changing positive towards Bitcoin?

And you thinck that. why Huh

Step one: The public is starting to form an opinion.  That alone is positive.

In my straw polls, I am coming across an increasing frequency of folks that have at least heard of Bitcoin.

I was riding the bus home from work tonight and saw a man in the seat next to me checking bitcoin price developmen in "Bitcoin Ticker" app. Had a pleasant conversation with him, turning a boring bus ride into an entertaining trip, and advising him to move from Gox to Stamp in the process.  Grin

Oh, and it seems Bitcoin awareness does rise lately.

A few people at work know of Bitcoin, and I had even one colleague, who previously never showed any interest in it, come up to me and enquire about it. Smiley

I like Gox because it has two step authentication. I hate relying on passwords only. Does any other exchange offer 2-step?

I never realized that was a Gox "exclusive" lol, but yeah, I wouldnt use an exchange without 2 step..

On Bitstamp go to Account->Security to enable 2-factor authantication.

(Once it's back on-line, that is)

As for multiple pages to do trading: use multiple pre-opened tabs.

does it mean that SilkRoad == up, Bitcoin price == down?

Brilliant role model, David. Huge respect! If only everyone was as disciplined.

I feel inspired to move about 90% of the funds to a cold wallet. Trading during the recent last weeks netted me maybe 0.5% extra revenue, and there were a few close calls.

Looks like my smaller limit orders were not placed high enough over-night, and I woke up after that retraction went up again.
I think we'll re-test 300 again today (Bitstamp), so Ii am not panic-buying back in yet.
Oh, and a larger chunk of my funds will go to cold storage today. I'll ton be able to trade over the week-end, which is a pity. *Shrug* The next consolidation level will be well over 300 in any case, so I am still having "cheap coins". Smiley

I have an interesting decision to make. I'll not be able to trade over the week-end, and probably for the whole next week.
Most of the coins were moved to a cold wallet.
Now, what to do with the rest...
Initially I planned to sell all and place scattered buy orders from below 250 and down to 150 with 3-5 dollar distance, and see which of them would get filled during my absence.
Looking at the latest development and extrapolating what happened in April, I am starting to get inclined to do the opposite: place scattered sell orders from 350 and up to 600, and hope that the top will not arrive before that, to subsequently re-buy at the new level, which I think will be around 400 (+/-100).
Any input from the experts?

I love the positive attitudes, but I gotta be real honest here.. so much talk about giving BTC away WHEN we hit some future ATH number... How many times have I heard that already?

If you were not giving them away when the price was $30 or $120 or even now at $350, you will certainly NOT give them away at 10k.

If you are truly in the business of disruption, the time is now. Not when we are all rich.

If there is a battle for disruption between Hoarding vs Spending, SPENDING will be more disruptive 99 times out of 100.

I must agree with you here. In my sig there is a drive to help collecting funds for a non-profit organisation, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
That sig was there almost from the start as I registered on the forums. I was also in contact with the Trust's representatives to try to convince them to adopt BTC as a means of collecting donations.
Sadly, while there were a few donations coming in before the April spike, once BTC price went up, I haven't seen a single donation.
Seems goodwill is reverse proportionate to the value of the donated medium.  Undecided

Been trying to trade up and down all weekend, and largely (since it has always sung back at some point) it's been OK.

That said, I have hardly slept and been too scared to risk BTC in fiat to really risk more than two or three coins at once.

All weekend I watched the screens for fart too long and I think I made less than half a BTC wile risking thousands of dollars at a time.

I have (almost) given up - as one stupid trade would probabaly wipe out what meager money I have made thus far!

You've hardly slept to make half a Bitcoin on some trades? Hardly seems worth it, does it?

No - I meant on a whole weekend - maybe 20 hours of red-eyed watching candles - altogether!

EDIT: So, no it wasn't worth it- I am not a great trader, even after studying this stuff since earlier this year - anyone smarter than me might have...

I find watching Parabolic SAR to be rewarding... That said, I feel your suffering, as this week-end left me for an emotional wreck, and only about a bitcoin to show for the suffering.

Discovering margin trading helped a lot too.  I don't even really have to sell or think about when to sell my core position. I just wait for any kind of a sharp drop and then as soon as high volume support starts kicking in I buy a huge margin position using my btc as collateral. Then as soon as the immediate bounce is over I close the position, take the ~15% profit, and buy more bitcoins to add to my core position. I might not be getting the most profit on the margin position possible but it covers my ass both in event of an uptrend or a downtrend. It's kind of a compromise between buy and hold, since I'm never actually selling any 'real' bitcoins.
You need to earn 15% profit in a row for 40 times to get 25000%. That's really amazing. Smiley How many flash crashes do we have since April?

I think there were only 4 or 5, counting the recent 2.

Not too much price action. I guess the fact that all bitcoins deposits and withdrawals from bitstamp have disappeared doesn't help.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1s8gfk/psa_do_not_withdraw_btc_from_bitstamp_at_this/

I was just talking with an employee at Bitstamp and he told me they had a broadcast delay, and everything should be working now, I can try send some BTC my self and report back, but BTW why didnt you open a ticket and if you did what kind of answer you got ?

Does it mean that once the deposit issues are fixed, we can expect an influx of both BTC and USD and an increase in trading activity as the result?

Interestingly, I don't feel much fear, just indecision. And I came to the exchange after the April crash, so I was not through it the last time, but read quite a lot about it.
Take for example, the last hour. I woke up to 650. By the looks of it 500 was to be retested, so I set some buy orders there, and the market promptly jumped to 780!  Cheesy

I think I am going to cash out what I initially invested in direct bitcoin purchases and mining equipment, plus a small revenue bonus on top of that. The rest will be used to re-buy bitcoins at the next low.
That way I would recover everything what I could have lost, and will feel even more emotionally detached from my BTC holding.

Last time I buy and hold. Worst strategy ever.

how long did you hold?

Since $200. It just makes me sad knowing I could've doubled my BTC today.

Then the worst strategy is when you try and trade, get it wrong and end up with less than what you started with. It's a mistake to look at the past and think you could have predicted it unless you have proven that you can do so.

This. Half of my trades were losing (in that I either performed a trade and ended up worse off, or I didn't perform a trade, which I should have, like today @650), but it's only in hindsight I could see that.

I got out at 880 and went all fiat.

Then, then after a few flush-crashes, I was ready to turn in for the night, and decided not to place a buy order at 550: probably the biggest mistake of this year.
Next morning: 650. Someone here write, that 650 is still a good price to get back in. Yeah, I still expect more down movement and place orders at 550-400
Next morning: 750. This time I small trade between 700 and 750, all the time expecting to flush-crash back down, and place staggered orders at 680-550.
Next morning: 850.

Does anyone see a pattern here?  Roll Eyes Huh

People learn from my mistakes. If you managed to sell before a crash and it looks like the price is already significantly below what you sold for, buy back in and sit tight, don't hunt for that illusive knife's edge.

Dammit - why did you sell? I sold earlier (roughly similar to your initial sell point, but on Btc-e) and was wondering whether to buy when you bought. Now you had to go ahead and sell again and mess it all up Angry

IMO, just stick to your guns now. At this rate even if you make some profit trade at some point it will come to nothing.

Nice to hear you cashing out and enjoying. Far too many people in here are waiting for the big prize and missing out on all the benefits money could have them right now. There was this guy who cashed out millions, paid his mortgages and virtually retired.

I am sticking to my current somewhat bearish overnight orders. And when I wake up, please, none of that $100 up nonsense I've been getting these past 3 days. Right? Right?

During these past days I made a few smaller trades that I didn't broadcast, and all I had to show was a wreck ball of nerves and a grand net of almost zero, with a minute pus sign.

The good question is why did you decide to sell at $1228 and not lower?
Why would I have sold lower? I sold before the initial burst when it went to $900 - I got out about 15 minutes before it burst at $770. I bought back in at about $700 and sold before the burst again at $1228. It was obviously not going higher, so why let my profits disappear?

Are you my antimatter twin?

How, huh? What?

I like to think I'm usually informed about European politics (EU uber alles! jk.), but what is this about? How can anyone "ban" commuting? Or are they cutting commuting subsidies?

Care to explain? (I have friends in Greece I could ask, but I'm too lazy to write Cheesy)

It's 1.63 per liter of gasoline here, or $8.44 per gallon of it! Do you need more explanation?

€1.63?

If the number of BTC I own grows, even if their total value in $ goes down short-term, I am happy.

My only hope now is a sharp downward movement during the next three days, and knowing my luck, that will not happen.

This week saw me 3 BTC down, though almost at the same $ value. The worst decision was to sell at 804, after I auto-bought at 901 (down from 960), expecting the second down-leg.

Hopefully, we are at a local top before the week-end, so I am still in fiat. And I am in dire need of a second chance. Knowing Bitcoin, that chance would come, I just simply need not to botch it.

I am sorry you chose to learn the hard way.   We tried . . .

By the way, since you seem to like the risk of trading, where I just can't risk my precious BTC, I have an observation for you.   Look at the one day charts.   We had one large red candle the day the China news broke.   Imagine a stone thrown in a pond.   Following that, 3 days up, 3 days down, 3 days up, 2 days down.    2 days up?   1 or 2 days down?   If you are going to mess around, at least trade the larger swings, not every day.

Better yet, find an entry point and take a break . . .   You know you wish you had done it sooner.

Thank you for the insight. I discovered now the hard way, that my best trades were when I either placed limit orders and waited, or when I traded very small amounts on an ebb-and-tide. Anything inbetween, and I become too trigger-happy and lose.

I think I am going to reduce my trading allowance as well, to be on the safe side. Smiley

Oh, and about alts... I actually made 20 BTC on Zetacoin by just holding, when everyone was predicting it going to 0....

In my experience words have power when the coincide with what people want to hear. If they are true at the same time, is an added bonus. Skilled orators try to turn words in such a way so that they feel to the audience as if the orator is saying almost, but not entirely what the audience already wants to hear, so the audience accepts those words, and with time can even be turned completely.

It'll be sad not to hear from you for a long time. We may visit 500, but given the amount of resistance during the recent pop around 550, I doubt it. I am short-term bearish, but I wouldn't bet on reaching 600, maybe 650...

Not sure that picture holds. As a professional coder I get paid about $97000 per year, converted from NOK, by a large multinational company. my oversimplified analysis:
everybody expected a drop, so they were ready to buy in the dip.
ran out of patience, got trigger happy, rising the price.

basically the price does often the opposite of what people expect, something you have expressed alot here Smiley

The more "to the moon" yells here the more chance of a price drop
and we're waiting for a drop means it won't come when expected.

That is true.
I stopped acting on my expectations, which resulted in fewer losses.
Besides, there's almost no ask support down to 780...

Yes. If I knew the future, I should have bought at 815, sold at 865 and then waited for the dip.

And as everyone knows, clouded the future is, always shifting.

Now I am going to be a disciplined guy and transfer this profit from the exchange and to cold storage.

My current strategy is to trade with a fixed BTC sum. Once I am over it, the excess gets transferred out until both sums are in balance, at which point, I will increase my trading threshold a little.

That's actually a good idea for me as well. I do most of my trading on Stamp (My volume there means I have lower fees) but it also means there can be quite a lot of slippage in price when trading. It's not really helpful to keep trading a growing pot as eventually you stop being able to buy/sell all of it at one good price.

I've made that observation as well. The best trades are in the 5-10 BTC range. It becomes cumbersome to have bids/asks over 25BTC.

But on the other side, I do not have many coins and I believe a much greater value will be achieved during the next years, so I don't want to "lose" some due to bad trading (even I'd profit $-wise).
It just feels strange to lose more dollars than I ever owned...

I thought the same on April this year. Calm down, everybody.

True, however, if you made profit, I'd suggest to cash out at least the initial investment. Does wonders to your sanity and the sense of serenity during the turbulent times such as this. But don't cash out now.

It amazes me how difficult some people find it in life to give credit where it is due. I guess it's just a lot of embarrassment kicking in now for the bulls who did nothing but mock bears for the past 2 months for attempting to be rational about the situation we were currently in. If anything this recent rally has taught me who in this thread is the day dreamers, the shit talkers and those who are blatantly blind based on their investment. Bitcoin does attract a strange group of folk, I must say.

There are some rational bears, but they are a minority and rpietila is not one of them.

Protip: Rational bears don't sell at $700, then buy back higher and start screaming that we're headed to the moon shortly before we top out.

From $3 to $30, $30 to $90, $50 to $266, $150 to $1200, now we sit here at $550 give or take. You can say early adopters, you can say 2011, etc. etc. The fact is that if this is your first day investing in Bitcoin you are still an early adopter. As with investing in anything from the start you will have to be able to take the good news with the bad news. You will have to be able to watch it rise and fall. We are the center of attention in the financial world and every country is scrambling to voice their stance on Bitcoin. Some good, some bad. Some regulations will come in our favor, others won’t. We are growing, expanding, infiltrating, we will be met with resistance by some and embraced by others. Every Bear and Bull will be right at one point or another and both will scream it from the top of their lungs when they are. You have to ask yourself am I day trader looking to make fiat, or am I a bitcoiner looking to make Bitcoin? If you are here to make fiat you are a bear, you want to see Bitcoin rise and fall and profit from its ultimate demise. If you are here to make Bitcoin you are a bull. You believe in what Bitcoin means and what it can do for the global economy of the world.

Last night I sold a Casascius 25B error coin for $21,000 cash. Camolist and I met the guy in person exchanged and left. We watched the market for a few seconds and I looked at him and said what do you think? He said could go either way. I said well I had a 25B coin worth 25B, now I can buy 32B with this cash. So we bought. When I woke up this morning I checked the price and for about 20 seconds I was frustrated, but then I stopped and thought I didn't lose $5,000, I made 7B.

I've gone back and forth between bear and bull many times. Sometimes our emotions get the best of us. Do what you believe in and follow your own path. Make the decisions that best suit your financial abilities and don't be swayed by others.

This +1000!
You should post it as a separate thread.
This is exactly the mental process that I went through at some point.
I mainly scoff at fiat-denominated losses as long as my bitcoin position gets stronger. True, it could have gotten even stronger if I traded smarter or was more daring, but the most important thing is the extra bitcoins that trickle into my cold storage.
Everyone here, who scrambles to get more bitcoins is a bull at heart, because they believe that Bitcoin has great future ahead of it.

183. Post 4029009 (copy this link) (by Nemo1024) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_11.42h):

I don't think I've experienced as many occasions for regret during my entire rather long life, as I did during the last month.

Just take your pick for the day:

I should have sold earlier/later.
I shouldn't have sold.
I should have bought earlier/later.
I shouldn't have bought.
I should have gone all in.
I should have been all out.
I should have been 50/50.
I should have placed a bid beforehand.
I should have placed that bit just a bit higher/lower.
I should have spread the bids.
I should have placed just one big bid.

Need to ponder over it. Maybe I am expecting too much from myself. I think there is also a healthy amount of greed at work. This often makes me second-guess my decisions and procrastinate a buy/sell a little bit longer, waiting for that last little spike/dip, or to place bids just a little too far out of reach of to think that I can place bids later, when I am sure that the price is were I want it to be.

At least I managed to decouple myself from fear earlier, and it helped a lot. I did a small botched sell on the way up, and it looks botched in the current situation. Before I would have rushed to undo it at a loss. Now I'll wait and see. From my experience almost all prices get visited at least twice. But I need to place a realistic bid, for now it's greed on the emotional termination list.

If you're going to analyze them then at least do it when there's no much action. Days like this are not right time to analyze emotions as they could push you to make wrong decisions, and market is already too crazy in days like this one to afford that to happen.

Try to make some profits, as long as you are in profit, it's easier to swallow that you could be even in bigger one. I made like 3500$ on LTC today in 20 minutes or so, could make 8k if I waited half an hour more. But fuck it, I worked like 3 months for those 3500$ before Bitcoin, it's great.

Thank you, I'll take that into account.

By the way, someone mentioned paper trades. I am better at those than at actual trades.  Grin It's quiet different actually pushing that sell or buy button.

Oh, and congratulations on the great LTC trading. I am usually happy when I don't turn up a loss and make 0.5-1 BTC from my trades. And I don't think I am brave enough to trade alts - then I'd have to keep track of even more markets and I barely manage to keep track of BTC/USD.  Tongue

This whole crash business is like an accelerated Jedi training course. Patience, young padawan... I am done with "it's going up for some time, buy, buy, buy... oh, no, it turned back down, sell, sell, sell".

It's the first bubble that I've experienced from the front-lines. I wasn't on the exchange in April, though I've been mining and holding since October 2012. Accidentally, I managed to sell 1 BTC at the top of the April peak through a third party, and then buy 2 BTC back after the crash through another third party, and that got me interested in trading potential. I've read a lot about the April going-ons and studied the charts, and thought I was prepared. I was not. Whatever wise warnings people give here, they go out of the window in the heat of the moment, until you yourself get burnt on the same mistakes that people did before you and warned you about.

In last month or so I wanted to be smart ass and to protect my new $ net worth by trading btc vs usd and not only I haven't increased my btc position and protect my net worth, I missed loads of opportunities to increase my btc position by dozens of more BTC thinking more about Bitcoin USD value than doing what I was great in doing for months. So, fuck TA and fuck Bitcoin dollar value. Single time when BTC dollar value is important is one when you want to cash out.

I have that sentiment as well. Should have held more and tried to trade less.
I had 25 BTC from alts that I managed to squander while playing catch-up in BTC/USD trading... Sad
At this point, and after a two-week waiting I am at the end of my tether. If this week-end does not present a buying opportunity, then I'll just buy whatever the price and hold (while moving some of the funds to alt-trading).

If my sad experience is any guide, there will first be an explosion upwards, so that everyone will start buying into it, followed by a dump and a lot of panic-selling...

You went full fiat?

Yes, full fiat with my trading allotment. The sad thing, I thought I was being clever, having placed a number of limit orders, selling gradually on the way up, and it did look like 580 was going to be a top, but then everything went horribly wrong.

From my prior experience, I've done too much chasing after rallies, which resulted in bigger losses than if i just held my positions. So this time, it is holding time, though, alas, in fiat.

You can forget about 440. Aim for around 850-750, if you are going to wait. 650 might be an absolute extreme low.

While everyone is busy talking about Charlie Shrem's arrest, no one seems to notice the REAL reason for the market plunge. That is, 3 hours ago Bitcoin was officially banned in Russia.

From what I can understand of the Google translation they did not quite ban it, but declared it illegal for use as currency (like China did), forbade banks to handle it (like China did, and banks in most other countries prudently refrained on their own), warned citizens of its high investment risk, and finally scared everybody with "you may find yourself involved in nasty crimes if you try to work with it".

My translation of a few key lines that I posted in the related thread:

Quote from: Nemo1024 on January 27, 2014, 05:04:29 PM
It does start a bit rough:

"The Central bank will deem any services concerning exchange of virtual currencies into Rubbles as a potential involvement in handling of suspicious activities in accordance to the law against money laundering of funds acquired by criminal means and finance of terrorist organisations. The following warning was issued by CB towards the Russian legal entities."

Further, a citation from CB:
"Virtual currencies lack in supporting and responsible for them legal bodies. Operations bear a speculative character, are processed on the so-called virtual exchanges and carry with them a high risk of loosing in value."

And a little bit further:
"CB warns citizens and legal entities, first and foremost the credit institutions and non-credit financial institutions from using virtual currencies for exchanging them into goods (work, services) and for monetary mediums as Russian, so foreign."

Too lazy to translate it in whole, but it does resemble the Chinese warning.

I am 'new' money. I am looking for that clear long Bitcoin opportunity but before I do that Bitcoin has to start taking out resistance levels with convincing volume and the trading has to not totally fucking stink of price holding bot algorithms and/or whale price ramping . Whether Bitcoin starts taking out resistance levels in the $500 zone as it climbs from a $380 bottom or it starts taking out resistance levels in the $800 - $900 region is irrelevant to me. I am not jumping on the train until it has shown it is going in the right direction.

I don't understand this kind of statement.
You won't go long now because the trend is not clear so you will wait until bitcoin goes straight from $800 to $1300 and then you will buy ... probably at $1500 ?
Please explain.
I will say that when entering the market in April as a newb trader, this was exactly my mindset. My concern was accumulating fiat, not coins. So yes, I was not aiming to catch the bottom but rather ride a predictable trend well after the bottom was in. (Try rushing to get your dollars to the exchange to buy your first bitcoins, only to watch the price drop 70% as soon as you're funded.)

And that mindset cost me quite a few missed coins, when I entered the market after April and was waiting for a further dip or a sign of upward movement. I hovered around 110 fully in fiat, and first bought in at about 170-190. Looking back, if I bought back then as soon as fiat was on the exchange, I would have had now 20-30BTC more.

Currently, I buy with 80% of the funds, whatever the price level, while using the remaining 20% to set up strategically staggered buy bid lower down.

Fear?  Insecurity?  Who knows.

So nothing really. As most of the times. Panic selling because there might be panic selling.
Really at which point is this gonna stop? How is it gonna stop? When we reach the bottom? Is everybody happy then?

Can't these people really not understand the simple concept that what they are doing is exactly the reason why their coins lose value? And that is exactly what they fear? How silly can it get?

It will stop at some psychological level, when the buyers says that this is "good enough price for me" and start buying, at which point the trend will turn.

There is a Bitcoin future in China, whether the government bans it or not. The fact that it's useful for evading capital controls and other State restrictions guarantees it.

Is it?  Basically the only way to convert Yuan to/from Bitcoin now is through a Chinese bank.  Both the bank and the exchange will want your ID.

What do you mean exactly by "evading capital controls and State restrictions"?

There are many miners in China. The Chinese could buy or trade from them even if all the exchanges closed. One could buy from anyone in China who holds bitcoin and was willing to sell. Communist countries have always had black markets.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_control

The laws of economics cannot be repealed by legislative fiat. You could sooner repeal the Law of Gravity.

Chinese may have a Communist government, but it's mainly so in name only. When it comes to the sensibilities of economics, they take a far more liberal stance, than most "democracies".

The laws of economics cannot be repealed by legislative fiat. You could sooner repeal the Law of Gravity.

Chinese may have a Communist government, but it's mainly so in name only. When it comes to the sensibilities of economics, they take a far more liberal stance, than most "democracies".

They just did that a few month ago , didn't they?

Did what? Say that bitcoin should be treated no different than any other foreign currency? As far as I remember they didn't even circulation of bitcoins between individuals, while the businesses need to apply for a kind of "money transmitter" license.

How many coins are being mined these days?   At the price they would fetch outside China, would they be enough for significant evasion?

I don't think that those coins would be easy or safe to get. How would the evaders contact the miners and pay them?  Big miners have large installations and huge electricity bills, they cannot easily hide from the government.

Exactly the same amount as in February last year. The emission is (more-or-less) constant until next halving. That's why difficulty goes up when the total network speed goes up: to maintain the constant emission of bitcoins.

This slow crash is very annoying, when i want to short, i want to see profits fast. I am not really comfortable to sell for the midterm in this situation that could end up being the bottom, or close to the bottom.

No, I don't dare shorting this market, save for 1-2 BTC for a few hours, just for the fun of it. I mainly bring fresh fiat to the exchange, and buy gradually in on the way down.

BTW, I find Money Flow Index and True Range to be quite useful these past days.

don't base your trading on your feelings
I do FEEL the pressure to sell, so i buy.

<-- crazy

I learnt that the hard way. Adam's proposition often works well.

Another bit of wisdom: don't base your trading decisions on what people here say/feel, if only to avoid flock mentality, and and keeping your head clear.

And my personal favourite: If you place some strategic orders during a calm period, making (as much as possible) rational assumptions about the market, don't start moving them once the market moves.

My main concern was that according to this calculator http://btcinvest.net/en/bitcoin-mining-profit-calculator.php, the miner would need to come on line end of March at the latest to break even. I'll be watching KnC's foray into cloudhashing with interest, and maybe buy shares from them if they would appear to be at least a little profitable.

In the meantime, the fiat money that I got refunded got redirected strait back to Bitstamp, and if the price on Monday/Tuesday stays about the same as today, I will have made BTC6 of pure profit. Cheesy

...and pity that I won't have fresh fiat on the exchange for the week-end, as I expect we'll be re-testing the lows.

I call bullshit. If you really thought that, sell your coins there and buy back in cheaper.

Here comes the FUD brigade, wanting cheap coins before the Big Fix. Sorry you missed the bottom, Guys, but it's in the rear view mirror.

Please, choose your accusations more carefully.

I am in the mode, where I play with 3-4 BTC, the rest gets moved to cold storage or waits for a spike in preset high sell orders. In January I decided that I will not sell a single coin at lower than what I bought it for, so more and more coins got locked out from trading by that decision, on the other hand, I had 0 losses and a few BTC gains. And another part of my strategy is to remove a fraction of BTC to cold storage each week.

On the other hand, I've been transferring fresh fiat to the exchange and buying each week on the way down, and I am almost, but not entirely out of fiat on the exchange. If you read my message correctly, I said that it was a pity that refund money didn't come earlier, because I am fully aware that we are near or at a bottom. The refund money will be converted back to BTC next week whatever the price (another of my decisions was to buy for at least 80% of fresh fiat immediately upon deposit), but you should agree that it's always a nice bonus when it's done at a bottom.

I am also of the opinion that this week-end will see a flash-crash, as we are still in the down-trend, so my remaining fiat is locked accordingly in the preset buy limit orders.

Not worth risking $50 difference, you had today really nice chance.

It depends on your trading style. I have small buy orders spread out in a certain range below, as well as some small sell orders spread out in a certain range above. A couple of my sell orders got hit today @624 and @649, which resulted in a few new buy orders from 600 and down, supplementing the already standing orders from 550 and down.

You are in the wrong mindset. In a year's time it won't matter if you got on at 646, 570, 720, or even 850. It'll all look almost the same. Get on whenever you have fiat.

Take it from my experience, if you try to get on and off looking for the lowest price, you'll either be left behind when the next upward correction starts, or will slowly bleed away on fees.

Price will need to go up, else mining is dead also with ASICS...

Do I see myself turning off my miners even if the price halves? No. They are already paid for, I don't mind the heat (especially during winter), and the electricity bill is paid from my day-job salary.

As for the larger picture, mining is a self-balancing system. When will people understand it? If enough miners turn off their gear, the difficulty will gradually go down.

Wow, buying Auroracoin must be one of the most ingenious methods of donating money to the people of Iceland as possible. I had no idea there was so much love for Icelandic people! Smiley

: -) well, they are nice folks. but i think it is an interesting social experiment also, especially in light of what happened with their banks and currency during the big collapse a few years back. just another tendril in the crypto revolution.

I loved how celand handled the banking crisis. I think they were the ONLY country to get it right:

"What?! The banks are going bankrupt? That's a real shame but that's what businesses do when they are mismanaged, carry on."

Then Brittan and the Netherlands bailed out their native account holders in the Icelandic banks and expected Iceland to cough it up. Iceland was like: "umh lol? Uhm no? Why are you asking us money for your stupidity?"

Having said this, Auroracoin is ridiculous of course (to help people who had trouble understanding the sarcastic comment I made in my previous post). Anyway: carry on Smiley

Nice description. By the way, Norwegian holders got bailed out by the Norwegian banking insurance fund, without asking Iceland to cough up.

Some info that may or may not be accurate. Sergej Mavrodi, the founder of a monetary pyramid MMM that stripped many Russians of their meagre savings during the Wild 90's is back in action. Yesterday he said that Bitcoin is useful for his MMM projects operating from China, and that he can crash the price at any moment if he chooses to do so.

I am not sure if what he says is 100% correct or if he draws attention to himself, but I wouldn't underestimate his ignominious "talent" for parting people with their money. To put things into perspective, compared to Mavrodi and his MMM, Karpeles and Mt.Gox was an exemplary honest company headed by a charitable founder.

Personally, I'd rather see BTC at 250 without Mavrodi, than at 500 with him.
