I know that I'm wiring money like crazy to both Kraken and Bitstamp. There will probably be a shitstorm on the media, noobs will panic sell, I expect blood on the streets and thus for me the time has arrived to go *very* long.

I am reviewing my thoughts, there are 2 voices in my head now, the first is telling me that there will be small drops but we will go up but the second and strongest one is telling me it is not over and that we will drop further and we will drop even less than 400.

I am trying to convince my self and gather my thoughts but the gox situation is not letting it go, I cant let it go and I am starting to think that we will sink even further... any thoughts ?

If the market was rational, this would be extremely bearish.

There are lots of possibilities:


1. Mark sold the coins in 2011, to cover operational costs, assumin he could buy them back when everything was up and running, BTC price soared xxx%, he could not buy it back anymore.

2. He got hacked in ~2011 and lost the coins. No sane person has that many coins in hotwallet since 2013, back then it was plausible.

3. His coldstorage program messed up, and he lost the keys (I read some plausible theories on this on reddit).

Is there any option for Euro traders who don't want to exposed to dollars besides Kraken? Kraken has such low volume... Could it be that there are two separate sources of gloom in the market, one in the "West" (Bitstamp troubles?) and one in China (the Caixin article?).  They take turns in causing individual traders to dump, and then each dump gets echoed on the other side by arbitrage and panic selling?

I don't really favour stocks ATM because with all the QEs resulting from the 2008 financial crisis, we will see another stock market crash soon.

I wouldn't be comfortable holding that much long-term on an exchange. There's non-negligible counter-party risk involved.

I used to have 4 major USD exchanges on a top row, and 4 CNY ones at the bottom - giving me a complete dashboard view of the BTC markets on one screen... Oh, well...

Frequently, it is a better practice to hold a small percentage of your total holdings in fiat.

While my BTC portfolio was in the red, I remained considerably hesitant to hold very high of a percentage in fiat.  I suppose that was largely because I was predicting and anticipating upward's price movement, and plus that seemed to be the more prudent practice.  Accordingly in about the past several months, I was mostly aspiring towards keeping my portfolio about 95% BTC and 5% fiat.

With price movements, my allocation tended to vary, and when BTC prices went up from $403 to $470 with barely any corrections, my allocation went from approximately 96% to about 92% BTC.  Thereafter, when the price corrected back down to about $435 on three occasions, I kind of ended up over doing the rebuying of BTC and my portfolio went to about 98% BTC  / 2% fiat.

Currently, because of a lot of the upwards price movement and some of the recent small corrections, I am a little bit unclear about my exact allocations, but I would estimate it to be around 93% BTC and 7% fiat.  In about the past week, I have been considering ways to attempt to reallocate over time in such a way that at least over the possible upcoming BTC price fluctuations, my BTC portfolio will largely remain between 85% and 95% - with a kind of target of 90%.   I think that I could probably manage keeping such  an allocation at least while BTC prices are anywhere between about $400 and $2,200.  If BTC prices go outside of that range any time in the near future, I will likely need to reconsider my thoughts about my allocation. 

Of course, each person is going to come to their own conclusions regarding how to allocate in accordance with their personal circumstances and view of the future BTC price direction (whether long-term or short-term).

edit: where we are at now most reminds me of Oct 29th 2013 which would suggest we were about to go absolutely mental over the next month which is possible.

my only qualm is that the late 2013 bubble is the one i have the least faith in. people were buying coins because they couldn't get cash out of MtGox any other way.

If they were all buying coins to get cash out of MtGox they would have immediately dumped them on another exchange and banked the money. More of them must have continued holding than were selling otherwise the price wouldn't have bubbled.
