Indeed, classic newbie mistake. When I learned about bitcoin (the end of 2012) I immediatly understoot that when I tried to trade, I should keep my profit in BTC
Boy, I am very happy I used that tactic and did not spend "profit in fiat" on some silly gadgets

I think we are on the verge of breaking out of the downtrend since we saw the all time high.
Several large buys on bitstamp this night. Price jumps, falls back to the previous higher low, consolidates for a few hours, price jumps again, etc...
I hope we see this slow breakout continue for at least a few days, this is good to bring "memory in the market"

I sold 5% of my coins just in cae the bottom is below 400 USD. So I have some cash to pick up cheap coins on the way down.
But I do not expect that. I will buy back those 5% when BTC hits 500 USD again, with a 20 USD loss per coin. I am willing to take that risk (I rather see it as an insurance).
But I do not really think we go below 400 USd for a long time; Maybe flash crash to 380 at most. Although I think we will bounce at 420 or something.

I agree and I'm holding, but even through we've been through this several times, it's scary as hell.
I agree it is scary. Back than, I had only 5% of my assets in BTC.
Now I have, at current prices, >50% of my assets in BTC.
The first time I am very uneasy at what the exchange rate is doing, I must admit.
I bought a lot of coins above 100 USD and another batch right before the breakout (at 160-230 range)

I am not pretty sure but at this price I think it is either great to buy or great to sell. Very risky. BTC-e got back to 466...
the previous low of 400 USD was artificial. It was a flash crash and due to mt gox. This one is the real "FUD low". It is much slower.

I suspect that if this crash is a short term flash crash, we will not go below 266, if it is a slow and painfull crash, even 100 USD seems possible

I think these log trendlines are guaranteed to be broken at some point in the near future (1 week to 1 year). A new trendline will be established. This happens all the time on a micro scale.
To maintain that trendline, basically btc would have to have a bubble of epic proportions (money influx-wise) and then only have a protracted bear retracement afterwards. I just don't think the log line is sustainable much longer.
I think we'll see one more epic bubble and after that, the current trendline (and the logaritmic model in general) will be broken.

If not, let's assume it is so. If there is a 50% chance of listing by November 8th, and the best estimator of the February 8th price without COIN is the current price, then the expected gain by 8 Feb is 50%.
That's roughly 100% annually. It is a very very low estimate of the expectation of holding. It may underestimate holding time however.
