as someone who sold at 72 and watching the price climb up it is ruining my evening and driving me nuts.
after doing that a couple of times, I've realised I should hold most my btc and do this with only a small amount where I don't feel compelled to buy back in at a loss in fear of missing the boat - I can just wait for it to drop back, no matter how long it takes, if it doesn't drop - not a big deal.

I'm of the opinion this downtrend is simply manipulation so whales can scoop up thousands of cheap coins and replenish their inventory. Sells have come to kill every rally attempt since 90s, while BTC had equivalently little/no trading volume when it was 110-135, but continued to be pushed up by periodic large buys.
yea, unfortunately being a high risk investment - those with their eyes on the price but not the news might think there's a reason to bail and do so without investigating, just makes it too easy for the scumbags.

interesting timing, people have been claiming a big event to go down in FEMA region 3 October 1st for quite a while based on a whole host of emergency supply contracts, military training etc all to be completed by late September to October 1st, I guess we'll soon see.

I guess 99% of bitcoin holders have regrets, there has probably been many who lost access to 1000s of btc because they were careless and didn't expect they'd be worth so much some day.

Day traders still use it for volatility reasons but they don't even accept usd deposits anymore.
I just looked at funding options, there was no mention of not accepting USD.

If new purchases are triggered by old purchases, the doubling time depends on bank's speed. In April it was wire to Gox, which took several days, now it is transfers to btcchina, which is instant.

Most of that order book volume is looking for cheap coins anyways. There certainly has not been much depth near the ask.
I was comparing the top rows on clark moody, grouping by $5-10 and watching the top rows - it was a lot higher on the buyers side til we dropped to like $900.
I dunno, I guess when there's rapid movement in either direction people just buy and sell at market so they don't miss the boat.

capital gains is annoying, I lost like $2k in shares when a company went bust but it's not like you pay less tax when that happens - it just has to be written into your tax return records year after year until you can use it to offset a capital gain, I couldn't be bothered doing that for the 10+ years since then so I'll just have to sell for cash or I'll end up paying more tax than I'm supposed to.

What's the deal in Aus anyway? How do they even know the money you recieve is Bitcoin related, or how long you've owned those coins (assuming the over one year - 50% cap gains applies)?
well you know we're all spied on these days, actually the bank could possibly notify the tax office if money comes from an exchange - the strange thing is we don't pay tax on winnings from lotteries or gambling, you'd think high risk investments would fit into that category.

Not sure about the web interface but is probably the same as the API where you can enter amount of like 1000 even if you only have 2 to sell or funds to buy 2 and it will auto adjust.

you also talk about the top 50 owning 30%, I don't know if that's true but in the fiat world the top 1% own 41%, the top 10% own 86% and we know they are for the most part, evil mother fuckers so bitcoins distribution is still a definite improvement.

Get money from bitcoin and help people in poorer countries. if bitcoin gets to $155,000 then i'll go and live in philippinnes and help build a few houses and find love (though i am going there to find love next month there on a minimal budget, think that i am eating mainly beans and mashed potato nearly everyday to make sure i save for 6 months ahead of time) I'm very good at keeping food costs down and i don't go out every weekend (haven't been out at night for a year or more) I tend to do things that cost little but maximum enjoyment. Well I found a filipina friend who lives between singapore and philippinnes so not everyone is like that or needs your money. There are a lot of poor people too that westerners pray on. Filipinas are more loving than western women, western women go for men with money, muscles and looks and rarely personality. Hence why i've not found anyone
guess you shouldn't generalise but my Uncle married one, she was obsessed with $ and left him cos his investments didn't turn out well.. other filipinas at work kept trying to hook people up to get their friends and relatives into australia - one old guy bought in, practically got married before they met.. it's quite blatant but I suppose marriages of convenience work for some.

I think people underestimate the importance of the name - I'm sure it was a big contributor to google taking over the search space, there were a bunch of alternatives people used at the time.

While I'm on the phone for hours with "personal bankers" who are supposed to be there for you 24/7, and still can't get a wire into any exchange in a timely fashion. Most of the forum posters here, being from the US or EU don't realize it because they don't see it. It is extremely difficult to buy coins in volume from 3rd world countries.
If you're a South American today, you cannot hook your bank to any exchange. You cannot get market prices. There is no way to acquire ""fair"" value BTC other than LocalBitcoins or the such. None.
Only people with access to foreign bank acc's can. The rest buy p2p or with CC's in dodgy sites, and always at 15-25% markup.
it's not just the 3rd world countries though, people in most countries are paying 5-10% premium because of the international transfers involved, Australia to Gox for eg. is like 5% + $90 USD.

Ok, a US senator coming with that kind of support for Bitcoin, on behalf of Homeland Security and other federal agencies like FBI and IRS makes it pretty clear that Bitcoin has the official seal of approval of the US administration. I got kinda suspicious after the senate hearings, and this cements my suspicions that the US is somehow involved in this. oh and why focus on it as a currency anyway, if used in parallel to other currencies as a payment method the price and volatility don't really matter.

I may be using the wrong term... but deflationary, means exactly that the currency buys more with the passage of time compared with goods and services. So let's say a kid is born in 2020 and his parents invest 1 bitcoin into a stored wallet. At that point, the bitcoin is equal to the equivalence of $10,000 in today's dollars. Even if the value of the bitcoin goes up by 15% per year (which I believe is fairly modest), then in 20 years that bitcoin would be worth about $200,000 and in 30 years, $900K.
yea that's what I was referring to as well but the total number of bitcoin users will stabilise at some point and so will the price, if deflationary at all at that point it will be a very low % which won't be incentive enough to hold as an investment.
