Quite amazing how Tera nows exactly what will happen in the next 2 years.

...but not more crazy compared to people who (constantly) claim that we are only a few days away from going to the moon Smiley I think TERA is basing her prediction based on at the past where there has been long periods with less activity (in between bubbles).

Troll Talking Points
 May 6th, 2014

Greetings gentlemen, first let me start off and say you have been doing very good work lately.
However we would like to remind you that you need to post in other forums besides Speculation,
as it is becoming quite apparent when you purchased your account from a real member since the account
stopped posting in other forums. Remember keep up your appearances, so as to not blow your cover.

Also some of you have been posting too much in "TOTAL TROLL" mode. Remember you need to dial it back
every now and then and post like an actual moderate bear would. This lends you creditability for your
"TOTAL TROLL" mode, when it is deemed necessary by the powers that be. And also keeps the actual bears
on your side, and they will even back you up sometimes... LOL.

Now onto today's talking points:

* OPERATION FUD - People were starting to react positively to the term FUD being thrown around, and it was
starting to dilute our message. As you know the effort to re-term it to mean Fact U Dislike has worked moderately.
Please keep mentioning it when someone points out our actual use of FUD.

* CHINA, CHINA, CHINA - The powers that be are coming to the end of the China ban milking. Now that China's actual
influence on the markets has dwindled its time to switch tactics. Let's try "China is the only thing that makes
Bitcoin worth more than $100". Find correlations between events in China to price rising and failing. Nevermind
the growth outside of China, keep them focused on China. We want maximum panic when the exchanges finally mention
  they are leaving China.

* CHARTS - Now that you've all been through "negative slope" training, don't forget throw up a couple trendlines
that point out how Bitcoin is going down to $0. Remember its not you making the numbers go down, its just what
the trend it pointing out. Don't forget an emoticon for an effective reaction Wink

That's it for today. Your Bitcoin payments are on their way. Don't forget to put your shorts in, as you know we
definetely will let YOU know when the squeeze begins.

lmao

lmao... if such an outcome resulting in the approval by the CFTC was plausible, wouldn't every commodities trader worth his salt be buying this shit up now? Even if such an announcement was unlikely to occur, a price jump from ~$450 USD to 100k would be hugely +EV (in poker terms).

It is always great to get press like this and tends to cause more people to look into Bitcoin.  Grin

You know what that means. Good news = dump.

Late last year, it could have been announced on reddit that some ma and pa cupcake store had decided to accept bitcoin and it would instantly rocket the price up $50. Now we have Dish Network -- which will be the largest single company to accept it -- and zero reaction. So it seems we've been a bit premature to assume that we've broken the bear market with last week's breakout. I agree with others that we're going to "consolidate" a bit more before going up again next month.

I dont know why people thinks SR's coin auction has/will impact bitcoin's price.
As far as i am concerned, the price right now is just doing what it is supposed to do.

It's the latest January 30, PBOC ban deadline. This year, for whatever reason, the community loves to draw up arbitrary deadlines and declare that price will rocket right afterwards. If the previous deadlines are any indicator, We'll likely see absolutely no movement or even a small drop after June 27.

Of course they are going to bid above market price.
1) You can't see what the others bid, so you have to make your bid count.
2) Do you think the names we saw on the leaked list or going to register on sites like Bitstamp? No these people buy off exchange.
3) Even if they would buy on Bitstamp buying 3 000 BTC would cost them 1.8 million dollar and this would push the price to 596 and leaving a serious gap behind them in the bid side on the order book. If they would bid at 580 this will cost them only 3000 x 580 = 1.74 million dollar.

magical thinking, my friend. An investor with deep pockets would have no qualms with creating an account on bitstamp or elsewhere... any means necessary to get their coins. The smart thing to do -- and rich people tend to be smart -- would be to buy them in small, spread out orders or just buy them in bulk from someone off exchange. It is magical thinking on our part to believe that anyone will pay above market prices for bitcoins, especially in this tepid market.

If you were ever going to pay above market for btc, now would be the time to do it.  Some time 5-10 days from now, BTC will put in its lowest daily bottom, and prices will always be higher thereafter.  (Says the monkey, but I will take responsibility this time, because I agree -- and yes, perhaps it is magical thinking.  He is, after all, a magic monkey.)

Ask yourself that question, you've been one of the biggest bitcoin cheerleaders lately convinced the price was going to explode upwards. Funny how these types are the first to lose faith and do a complete turnaround. Better let go of that heavy bag of yours and let someone take it who can handle it and have more realistic expectations of bitcoin. Smiley

You might have me confused with someone else, friend. I'm typically pessimistic or mildly enthusiastic at best, but my outlook changes on a weekly basis. I honestly can't remember all that I've written in the past, but I've never promised anyone riches and if you look back enough, there have been times that I claimed we're all late adopters and missed the train. I'm feeling that way again now.

I learned something while reading here.
And that is that nobody and i really mean nobody has a fucking clue what they are talking about.
Anybody who uses this thread to know when to buy and sell might as well throw some dice or darts. The results will probably better.
All these "facts" and charts and lines and people acting like they know it all.
It really isn't much better than the Btce troll box here. A bit more civilized maybe but in the end it's nothing but idiots screaming BUY BUY BUY SELL SELL SELL! We all do it in one way or the other.
Also hilarious how everyone is an auction expert suddenly. And a China expert and an expert in anything really.

Damn, I hope you didn't just learn that! It's true: nobody in here knows what they're talking about, especially those who believe that the SR auction coins will go for above market value for some irrational reason.

A few people know how to package and present their bullshit a little better than others by using lines and graphs, but it all stinks the same in the end.

So, basically you admit that you have a track record of being inconsistent and wrong.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm wrong some of the time, but also right quite often. I did call the May 19 trend reversal two weeks in advance... to the very day. Nobody else on here or other bitcoin forums can put claim to that feat. I have my finger firmly on the pulse of the market, and right now I'm getting contrary vibes to everyone who's promoting the idea of a major run up following the auction this week. I don't think it's going to happen. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not putting my pride on the line like you and others. This is merely a hobby for me and I invest a small part of my savings.

For everyone here who mocked me and told me I "can't be trusted" because I'm too passionate about my price forecasts, well, here's some news that you might not like. I called the price (I picked $565 on the poll when it opened last week). At the time, there were only two others in that camp with me and many, many, many in the >650 camp.

So who are you going to listen to? The guy who will bullshit you and tell you that we're going to the moon after the auction, because millionaires -- for whatever inane reason -- are supposedly going to overpay for a depreciating asset, or the the guy who will tell you what's really going on. I'm right again and the permabull morons who flamed me... wrong. Oh well, what's new.

It feels good to make a prediction that works out.  Good enough that some (overconfident, young, ego driven) take it as a signal that they've got it all figured out and their next prediction will work out as well.

It feels good because all I ever hear around here is how we're either going to zero (the trolls) or "we're going to skyrocket as soon as deadline x,y,z passes". Both are always wrong, and yet when someone like me comes in and makes a sensible prediction of a short term contraction, he gets flamed because it's contrary with what people want to hear.

Hell I'm a perma-bull, and even I don't think this.  Even if the coins are sold for a premium above market (whatever that means), and it leaks out to the public (never gonna happen), I wouldn't expect a huge rally or anything.  In fact, I'd place my bets on some really stupid fake FUD leak coming out on Monday saying that the coins sold for $200 a piece or some shit.  Prompting yet again another mass panic sell off for no reason at all.  Either that, or maybe next week comes and goes without anything major happening.

You see, bubbles are actually created (ie., fabricated) by whales who wait for the perfect market conditions to happen + advanced insider knowledge of some major announcements coming down the pipe.  Then they start slowly pre-seeding the market with mega dollars to begin the rally.  The bubble then feeds on itself, and is catapulted higher with mega media attention + the reveal of the major good news announcements near the middle.  This is all planned ahead of time, months in advance.  This happens in the stock market as well.

So I just don't see the next 2 weeks as that perfect storm.  Perhaps we are still 6-8 weeks away.  Or perhaps, not even until next year sometime.  I still see a slow steady rise in price regardless of what happens this year.

Edit: Oh you were being sarcastic.  Got it.

I was being a bit facetious, yes, but the gist of what I wrote was true. I notice a lot of people back peddling now, but there was a lot of talk from the usual cheerleaders claiming that today would be huge. Now it's more like, the coins will sell for approximately market value, and we may not even know for sure. Whereas a week ago, people were saying they'd sell for much higher than market value and other bullshit. Does anyone still believe this?

Anyone? ... anyone?

Well, I can't even fathom what those silly people are wanting or expecting to hear.  Auction buyers who paid $800-1000/btc?  $5000/btc?  These types of HNW professional investors are going to hold on to these coins for a VERY long time, regardless if they paid over or under so-called "market" value.  So wtf does it really matter what they paid for them?

You really think they plan to hold them long term? If they were that interested, then why wouldn't they just buy them from the exchanges or directly from miners already? Why wait this long?

Your ignorance amazes me. You actually think institutional investors want to buy on Bitfinex or Bitstamp?  Some do. Others would never touch these exchanges with a ten foot pole. Do you realize that many wealthy people use their lawyers as advisors on every business transaction they make? Oh, forget about it, you're hopeless.

Why do they need their lawyers help to buy bitcoins? Is it really that complicated that a financial genius can't open a coinbase account on his own and buy some?

No you were wrong, you said we would see a new round of dumping after a bounce back up to 580 but instead we rallied on to 598 now and probably will go higher soon. Let me remind you since you seem to have a very selective memory:

Yeah, fine, I'll concede that I'm a little off the mark on that last one. All the bullish optimism must be pressuring some players to panic buy... we're a little under $600 right now, but we're hitting some heavy resistance. I don't think this mini-rally is going to hold up much longer... buying pressure is already thinning out.

Not really, right?

Yes, I think it's very possible. I can assure you that there are many high level, closed door meetings occurring around the world about the rise of cryptocurrencies and the best strategies to subversively suppress growth. It is not in their interest to let this succeed.

And the best way to do this is by putting up 500 Bitcoin walls at 600.
This really sounds plausible to you? This is something a government would do to stop Bitcoin? You really, truly believe that.
Sorry for all the questions but i just can't believe you're not joking.

We already know that they tried banning it, and then banning it again, and then banning it another five times when the first two attempts didn't work (China) so I don't see why governments wouldn't also pursue more straight forward strategies to suppress it with large ask walls on the major exchanges.

edit: Lest we be naive, government spokesmen on an individual basis may get before the cameras and tell us that they support bitcoin, because they don't want to look unhip or behind the technology curve to their constituents, but on a collective basis, world governments absolutely do not want bitcoin to succeed.

We have to verify that they aren’t tied to any sort of criminal activity, we have to verify we have the money from the wire transfer. If we send the coins we understand we will have no way to reverse the transaction so every step is being taken.”

Makes sense to me. We are dealing with the government here and obviously if they can't even send an email right, its probably the best thing they can do.

I've worked for a government agency in the past (as a contractor), and most of the government people around me were "equal opportunity"... people who could barely read or write but hired to meet some quota. Computer skills typically extended no further than opening a web browser to open Yahoo's front page. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they lose the private key to the coins. Right now they're just trying to cover for it.

An insider that is trying to get out of BTC would hopefully want to maximize their fiat by selling a little slower.

If I had to guess, I would say it is either someone trying to keep price low in order to accumulate, or to collect interest on BFX longs, or to create a BFX long squeeze.

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of some type of government agency or cooperative effort between major banks. Let's not forget that there are many people who want bitcoin to fail, and it's not a stretch of the imagination to think that they're taking subversive efforts to dampen market sentiment. Why else would someone dump 1,000 BTC+ on the market all at once?

Why you are feeling bad, market still around 600, so you can't say we are now going upwards.

Pretty much everyone who was going to sell has already done it, except for our bear whale friend who has been dumping incrementally for the last few weeks. The mythical date of July 24 has come, and it was completely natural and healthy for a few holders to get spooked and sell, anticipating a sharp drop. Now that we're stable again at $600, they'll likely buy back in and we'll go up again.

nobody gives a shit about the nysdfs guidelines, that's just a distraction. as others have said, people are getting tired of waiting, tired of the sideways snoozefest, and thinking of better things they'd like to use their money on. this is a necessary step though... once speculators give up on their inflated expectations, we can go up again. but it's going to take weeks, at least. Even if we stay at current levels for the rest of the year, it wouldn't be the worst year ever

bitcoin has never concluded a 12 month period at a lower price. if we reach Novemeber and are still at this price level, even I'm giving up on it. because it would be clear at that point that it's over: world changing innovations don't just stall for a year for no clear reason.

It does NOT happen the same every week, even though there may be a pattern.  What kind of odds are you giving to your prediction... 90%?  60%?

I'd say it's almost a sure bet that Friday and this coming weekend will follow the direction that I outlined above. Perhaps my dollar amounts will be off, but we'll likely see a correction back down to ~$580 tomorrow followed by a slow bleed on anemic volume through the weekend. This week has been following the same pattern as the past several, and this is what has happened every time.

Of course NOT... why would we want BTC prices to be suppressed to such a low level.. that is ridiculous to even suggest it.. b/c such a low price would demonstrate an extreme low confidence in BTC value... and as we know, we got into the mid-$300s for a a day or so, earlier this year.. for our post ATH low... and absent some extreme news, it seems fairly unlikely that BTC prices are going to see the $400s again...

But prices are too high right now, if we can get back to the $300s at least, all my friends at school who said "bitcoin is too expensive" will think about buying again. Right now we're still sticking around $580 because of all the holders who refuse to accept a loss, but there's not much buying pressure to support it. It's simply unsustainable, imho.

Right now we're still sticking around $580 because of all the holders who refuse to accept a loss, but there's not much buying pressure to support it. It's simply unsustainable, imho.

Then your friends at school are complete idiots, because they can buy any amount of bitcoin they can afford.  They can buy $580, $58, $5.80, hell they can buy $0.58 or $0.001 cents worth.  It's all the same, it's all bitcoin.  Owning "whole coins" is illusory, it doesn't exist, it doesn't even matter.  Even the idea of a single "bitcoin" is simply a meaningless abstraction.

A bitcoin is simply an abstract unit of measure, with relative value that changes over time. Like the ounce is in the gold and silver world.  No one goes around saying "Hey, I own X number WHOLE ounces of gold!!"  No, they say "I own $6000 worth of gold."

I think they realize that, but they told me it's not fair that earlier investors could by hundreds of bitcoins for pennies on the dollar and they need to pay $580 to buy just one. So for that reason, they're going to wait until prices come back down again. And then my math teacher said that bitcoin in a ponzi scheme, and that "true value" is only $10 per coin, because he read about it on the Internet. That's just how people think, I guess.

Even the most ardent long term investors are growing tired of the slow bleed down and want to drop this under performing investment. So that's what we're seeing now... it's not manipulation.

You can't blame them; asking people to hold a stake in relatively new technology that has been in a bear market for 9 months is a pretty tall order, and at this stage in the technology life cycle, is a pretty good indicator that interest has simply dried up and moved elsewhere. We all know the "honey badger" and all that, but continuing to hold in this kind of market is basically a leap of faith.

So unlikely to be the case. Likely it's apocryphal but I always heard it attributed to Einstein.

Yes, an earlier poster attributed it an Alcoholic Anonymous handbook from 1979, which may or may not have been penned by Carl Sagan Smiley

Well, I think that represents where we're going again over the next few weeks. You need to remember that in May everyone was calling for the next huge rally in late July. There were graphs and TA everywhere calling it, and much of it looked quite convincing. All it took was a small spark to ignite that frenzy up to $680, but when nothing materialized, investors lost hope again.

What do we have to look forward to now? There are some half heartedly calling for a bubble in October or November, but I don't think they even really believe it. We're all just blindly hoping now, so I think a return to the April/May price levels (or lower) is just about inevitable now.

I'm not surprised that transactions have risen in the past few days, but can't that just be attributed to holders getting spooked and sending their coins around to sell? If so, then yes, transactions are rising, but it's far from a good indication for future price forecasting, imho.

Funny to watch trolls like benihana come out and play chicken little.

Ask yourself, has anything changed fundamentally with Bitcoin? Is there something wrong with the protocol? On the contrary. Businesses and investors (professional and amateur) are clambering to get aboard.

The sharks are in the water and they smell blood. Don't sell during these times unless you know what you're doing. And if you have to get advice from this forum, you don't know what you're doing.

People say this, but I don't think they really understand it. Bitcoin doesn't need to fundamentally change. It is what it is. And what it's been, for the past 5 years, was an asset that could be held and would run up in value every year. Finally, in 2014, it can be used with some mainstream merchants, and people have taken advantage of that. But the distinction we need to make here is... bitcoin holders themselves are the ones taking advantage. Very few people are buying bitcoin to turn around and spend them. That is not the drawing point... it is just an added amenity for those who already hold and want to use them.

So without the yearly price increases, bitcoin suddenly loses its luster. Today, Amazon entered the mobile payments realm. No bitcoin has not fundamentally changed, but the world around it has. And it seems like the world is saying, we're not interested in bitcoin anymore.

There have been greater ideas than bitcoin that ultimately failed. Just saying.

I'm all for moderating off-topic, personal attacks and what not. But I see this place as rather civil (at least relative to the Internet in general) although a bit chaotic at times. If people don't like an opinion, they're free to put a poster on ignore.

Did, earlier today. Rather interesting paper on anonymity in the context of Risto switching his affections to Monero. Point was that Monero suffers from unsustainable blockchain bloat and until they fix it, it can't go anywhere. Teleport seems to offer a new approach to anonymity that avoids the problems of ring signatures and mixing. Asked for feedback since privacy is a big deal and the coin that nails it will do well. No one gave any.

I agree, Monero is already dead in the water. I have the feeling that Ristro invested a massive amount of money into it (which probably is the cause of the rally up to $4/coin a couple months ago) and is now doing his best to pump it to others here. He's going to have to cut his loose before long and switch to the next thing.

Could it be that someone knew this was going to be announced and was playing with the price a bit to get some cheap coins?  I often wonder about these things.

Sweet... more potential merchant adoption. You know what that means? Price drop imminent!  Grin

Selling now is a bit late, but might still be a good idea. Some here need to get over their fixation that we can't drop any lower. We can and we probably will. Just in the time of writing it went down another $10!

To anyone who still doubts my powers, I called this literally five minutes before the massive dump on bitstamp.

Don't listen to false prophets like Risto. If you don't want to wind up in the soup line this year, listen to guys like me and falllllling.

People who are thinking of selling, I would like remind that in daily we are very oversold so there's big risk that you end up sell too cheap. This forum is very bearish in times like these and it can make you do irrational decisions that you end up regretting later. If you have fiat, good, this is great buying opportunity and might get even lower but if you don't have fiat, then i suggest that you hold, at least to the next bounce and even then don't sell all of your coins!

Just because we switch to "oversold" territory on some arbitrary time frame of the RSI indicator doesn't magically mean that it's going to swing the other way now. You're right though that there is a lot of irrational, "magical" thinking on this forum, especially at times like this. But it's from the bullish posters, not the other way around.

rpietila's latest gem:

The public is being mind-fucked to BTC pregnancy and we're waiting on the next cohort to give birth so that we can "super-move" north of $10k.

You've got to admit that Risto is a clever guy. He uses his own picture of himself in a suit and tie for his avatar, and utilizes various professional looking mathematical charts to sell people on the idea of bitcoin going super exponential in the near future. He then posts frequently about his castle and bourgeoisie lifestyle of fine wine and cigars to convince people that they too can be ultra rich if they just follow his lead. Occasionally he is right about small, short term movements, but when he's wrong they get quietly erased or swept under the rug.

Sounds to me that some people here bought at the top, and are pretty eager to blame somebody. Risto hasn't been the only one saying the price of BTC is going through the roof. The Winklvii said ~$50k...hell, even the BoA said the fair value was $1300. Don't blame others because you're a moron and can't make your own decisions. This is the speculation thread, right?

I sold before the crash this week, so I'm not "blaming" anyone, because there is nothing to blame. Let me guess... you're still holding?

Yep, its got a ways to go before I decide to jump ship. Besides, given my inability to figure what the hell is going to happen, the minute I sell someone will announce an ETF is approved, or Amazon is accepting it, and it will go through the roof. I committed a pretty small amount of fiat that I'm willing to lose.

Honestly, given the market right now, an acceptance by Amazon (unlikely given the promotion of their new mobile payment system this week) or the Twinklevoss ETF approval would only cause a small bump in prices here.

That guy that bought all of SR's coins must be kicking himself right now... then again, that money he spent was probably his vacation money for the month. but, why aren't all the other guys that put in their bids buying it up? Thats what I thought was going to happen if one of them didn't win any, they would just buy some on the exchanges, well, now is a great time to be buying.. even if they think it will continue to go down, just slow buy on the way down..

Market this month =/= market in June. If you're not having doubts about the future growth potential of bitcoin right now, you're not thinking clearly.

Edit: Also, many of the bidders put in low ball offers, in the hopes of utilizing their large "bank rolls" to buy them up cheaply and offload them soon after for a quick profit.

call your friends recommend buys, they won't... they never do, and once again they will be like fuck i should have listened.

Great idea.  Cheesy If they don't outright laugh and hang up the phone and instead actually follow your advice, when the price continues to fall they'll despise you for years to come.

fallllllling is using his paid time off today. I agreed to cover the night shift for him.

So, anyone buying these "cheap" coins?  Grin

I'm looking at the charts, and don't look like it!

213. Post 8388589 (copy this link) (by kireinaha) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_13.05h):

The only people buying are delusional bulls who have convinced themselves and each other that prices are "cheap" right now because we dipped into the $400s and stayed close to $500 without falling further for one whole day.

The fact remains that they're still being used exclusively for speculation and gambling, and the only people using them for commerce are long time holders who are tired of waiting for the mythical bubble and are using them at newegg, dell, and overstock. And FYI, these companies only implemented bitcoin because the evangelists begged them to, not because they see long term potential in it. If they did, they wouldn't be cashing it out with third party processors immediately.

What worries me now is that we're still seeing low volume on these bounces, and LTC STILL continues to fall. I think this is a strong indication of further sell offs for bitcoin. Sub $400 is looking more and more likely.

I'm seeing a disturbing trend of many bearish posts and topics being deleted and banned by the moderators here. How do you expect to have an open conversation about bitcoin if people are allowed to write "omg!11eleven!1 bitcoin to $1 million by 2016!!" but if fallllllling or whoever writes that it's going to drop in value, he gets banned?

That's seriously fucked up. Especially since he's been mostly RIGHT for weeks.

who says 1 bitcoin = 1 million in 2 years?

SlipperySlope and Risto have tried to make cases for it with their bullshit trend lines, yet they're still here. Somehow they get a free pass to spam bullish nonsense, but I guess that's because this forum is at heart a practice in mass delusion. Y'all want to believe that you're going to get rich with your digital tokens, so you're willing to tolerate bulltrolls, but not beartrolls.

I don't agree with it, but that's the nature of this community I suppose.

I'll be retired by 33.

I save 75-80% of my income currently, have plans to build a house within the next year (eco home made with earthbags, very low cost)

Once I remove my housing  costs I will easily save 90%+ of my income.

By 33 I will be financially independent (have enough to never work again) but I will continue working, or i'd get bored.

My plan is to continue til about 40, then Ill have way more money than I need, and I can take up something interesting and expensive like diving without worrying about paying for it.

Do you have a wife and kids? I'm guessing no.
