Guys, I`m trading < 400$

Trading fees:
gox 0.6%
bitstamp 0.5%
btc-e 0.2%

I'm choosing btc-e based on fee, Ignored withdrawal support for the moment, will transfer btc to an exchange with good withdrawal option when i want to withdraw.

Anything else you guys can share, being more experienced traders?

due to low volume I hope you guys don't mind a crosspost from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192719.msg2084624#msg2084624

to enter a bear market we need a lower low. Depending on timeframe there are 2 potential lows to break:

  • the $80 low on 5/3 (red)
  • the $50 low on 4/16 (yellow)

if we don't make a new low below $80, it's not a bear market but a correction (by investopedia definitions quoted further above). We could then enter a bull market or at least further consolodation pattern (green). Of course there's different options for "green", I just outlined roughly one of them. A break of the $170 top would clearly mean we're in a bull market again (both higher highs and higher lows would've been reached then)

I don't think we have to wait more than a month to see this resolved.

Hat tip to molecular. Green arrow scenario underway...

haha. that wasn't a prediction (except that I said I favored green scenario). If we include your grey scenario (sideways for a while in white area in my pic), what I layed out pretty much covered all possibilities. Easy to be correct then.

Although I prepared for a drop I must admit I'm pretty relieved we broke upwards. Initially (couple days ago) I had been quite certain move would be up, but had increasingly become worried about the possibilities red/yellow. Probably have been reading too many bear threads... really gets to you after a while.

Let's see how much momentum this has... who knows, maybe it's a bull-trap.

Whats the expected ? 125? or Dump by the bots?

About time. I was waiting it since Monday. I expect testing $105ish, if that is broken $80ish, and if that is broken too, $50ish. Really don't know how low we will ago, but I'm pretty sure no lower than $50. And from there, the only way is UP.

In case we put in a dip down to 115, would that technically make it a "tripple bottom"?

A bounce from 115 makes it a tripple bottom, breaking 115 invalidates the previous double bottom support, i think so.

It's the Pitchfan drawing tool. It might be a little tricky to get right at first. You select a bottom or top, then you select a high and then a low.

The market is being very stubborn right now.

the spread has been more or less 1$ or ~1%, this is a pretty big spread... what do you think it means?

I think, its because of the recent wild price swing. First, all the bids from 109 to 87 get wiped out Shocked. But! the market sees this a buying opportunity and ~30K BTC buy orders are executed, this bring the price for 88 right back up to 110 with practically 0 buying pressure ( no bid walls ) fueling the rally. recognizing the buying opportunity, the market has keep the price at this level despite the buying pressure lagging behind.

The spread will tighten as buyers acquire more confidence, and buyers will acquire more confidence, as the buying pressure comes back.

once buying pressure builds we will be heading higher, the price move Up, will encourage more buying pressure.

we are seeing this now! we had a false breakout today as buying pressure started showing signs of coming coming back.

A nice experiment would be to seperate two or more groups of (many) traders, give them the same data to start and see, if they would behave in the same way, but without knowing how the other group does. Both outcomes (they end up with the same result and or not) would tell much about the markets and trading altogether.

Logic dictates that it is an experiment which has already been done, in house by financial institutions. A public study? google fu to the rescue.

You know you actually make money if the price goes up.

First the fiddling with things that don't add functionality,

Makes spamming to Hero stat unviable.
The formula used  min(time*14,post) makes, any post above once per day (averaged over two weeks) as not contributing.
Spamming is discouraged but so is higher stat reward for just posting.

The formula creates no incentive for posting more than once a day (avg over two weeks), but even two posts per day would incentivize people to spam two posts per day in order to inflate their score. Activity seems to be resistant to manipulation, but not representative of all of a person's contributions. Only a legit poster would still keep posting above 1 post per day.

Scrypt is not ASIC resistant at all. FYI: it was supposed to be GPU resistant too, and LTC FPGAs are being developed right now.
True, with each passing day. Ive been following the FPGA project closely., But better ASIC resistance(resistance seems wrong to be used now that FPGAs have been developed, maybe a less disruptive effect than the FPGA to ASIC jump in BTC), compared to BTC, could be the inability to achieve the Mh/$ ratio of 1st generation BTC ASICs to GPUS.

I don't think the Sha256 ASICs can be modified for Scrypt. They hold enough hashing power to ensure SHA 256 remains. Scrypt would be a hard fork which the ASIC users wont adopt. Most users will protect their investment at any cost.

ASICMiner- Letting the cat out of the bag.

Recent analysis has led me to some interesting conclusions. I would like to present them to the community for discussion. Feel free to shoot holes in it as you desire.

In the early 1990's, Microsoft made a huge investment in their direct competitor, Apple. Apple was failing, and common wisdom dictated that this was done to keep from getting impaled by anti-trust lawsuits. I would suggest that it was nothing of the sort. I believe they were just doing it to grow the market, so that the value of their share would increase. Witness AM. AM has demonstrated a capability to completely dominate the entire global hash if they so desired. I don't think this is conjecture, but rather a demonstrable fact. But unlike Microsoft, they had to deal with a very important restraint: they could not ever under and circumstances breach 50% of market share. This placed a practical limit on their growth. They could never grow to more than 50% of the current hash. So what is the obvious solution? Increase the hash that they do not control, and the easiest way to do that is to supply their competitor (Joe and Jane miner) with devices that could hash. AM, in order to grow, increased the hash of their competition by selling them hardware that they could have easily put into their own farm. AM effectively put themselves into the catbird seat by not only profiting from their own farm, but from hardware sales as well. The tertiary profit came from increased hashrate allowing them to expand even further. They raised the value of the cap.

I have no doubt that many have realized this strategy already, in fact, there have been several posts that have alluded it to it. What I think most have missed however is much more complicated.

As specialized hardware is required to make any sort of profit, the actual number of miners has been decreasing. The costs of obtaining the latest hardware continue to increase leading to only one conclusion: That eventually no individual will be able to own hardware capable of hashing a profit. We will eventually reach a point where there exist only a handful of companies with the resources to purchase and operate the hardware required... and instead of owning hardware, we will all own shares in farms. Just as the wildcat oil-drillers gave way to Standard Oil. But Friedcat has a trick up his sleeve, there will be no Standard Oil. Friedcat appears to have embarked on a strategy that pays attention to history. He knows the result of a monopoly, and knows it is poison to bitcoins. He welcomes the competition. he encourages it, and above all else, he profits from it. He knows he needs it. So he ensures it exists.

Where will this lead? The obvious conclusion is a system wherein Friedcat runs the bitcoin mining ecosystem in the same manner the federal Reserve manages dollars. A total domination on almost every level. Avalon kicking up the hash? Excellent, we can just increase to match, and sell even more block erupters to everyone who is trying to keep up. More profit for shareholders. BFL actually delivering? Pop the cork, we can now bring another 10 Terrahash online and sell even more USB miners! More profit for shareholders!

And so, we end up with AM ensuring no entity ever gets 51%, protecting the bitcoin system, and rewarding shareholders with an almost endless stream of dividends. It almost looks like it is all tied up with a pretty bow. When you read it like this, it is hard to wonder if Friedcat and Satoshi might be in some way... related.

Oh, well, off to bed. It was a good bedtime story if nothing else. Please deposit the tinfoil hats in the bin as you leave.

Source please.  Hell, you can't even legally import gold into India.  I don't think Indian regulators will take too kindly to Bitcoin, but I could be wrong.  I don't know why India didn't jump in earlier .. compared to China, they have a much higher English literacy rate so you'd think they'd already be all over the existing exchanges.

They will not take kindly to Bitcoin at all. India's balance of trade has been suffering due to their gold imports, and since I'm guessing most Bitcoins are outside Indian borders, a Bitcoin craze will just worsen that problem.

However, Indian regulators are breathtakingly slow to act, and often ineffectual when they do. It is conceivable that India will "come online" before their government even grasps the concept.

The important difference between India and China is that China has experienced much, much greater recent growth in its middle class. It's only rich and middle class folks who have the disposable income to buy bitcoins with, and so there are many more potential buyers in China than India.

It's not reasonable to expect a second "China effect" out of India. Our attention now should be focused on Wall Street.
Seems like a reasonable assessment (I am no expert on India so I'm not really qualified to endorse or counter it) and I agree there is unlikely to be the same kind of proportion of middle class Indians as have been Chinese buying in as a speculative investment.  Where India does I think have greater shorter term promise is in remittances and as the cellphone revolution continues, as mobile money such as M-Pesa is doing in Kenya.

Just like I anticipate the David Woo comments yesterday are more likely to have a bigger impact on businesses considering adaption than on price I anticipate India in the shorter term to have a bigger impact on adoption than price - though there is a limit, especially with the latter, as to how much adaption can go on without impacting price.

I will repeat, as much as it may sound like I know what I'm talking about remember this is a speculation forum...

Dont even expect a blip on the charts contributed by India. The Indian subforum/and trading sites are proof enough.
The default saving mode is Gold, and Bitcoin wont be trusted as much as gold anytime soon.
At the most we might have around a 1000 adopters in India by now.

Whats worse is you can't wire money to International Exchanges from India (easily/legally). So even the adopters find it hard to get their hands on btc. OTC subforum trades are the main go. No Mtgox,btc-e or stamp buying till the sites start accepting Rupee wires. The trading is within the subforum mostly.
The demand for btc has spawned a few local trading sites but everybodys waiting for some major exchange to add support.
The first step would be to get any exchange to support btc buying from India.

Seems to me there is developing a consensus in the market that 1BTC is AT LEAST worth something like $550. All the new people coming in have in the back of their heads that price has been +$1000 and with the momentum and press Bitcoin has now, it is just common sense that this is a good price. Which can be seen in buying pressure whenever we move down below 600. IMHO.

Stealing Market Cap which would otherwise be BTC's: Doge+Dark+Nxt+Ltc

Offtopic: if drk is truly anonymous SR2.0 would switch. Good for btc.

Having observed many rallies in bitcoin (and none anywhere outside of cryptos), this one feels like it's happening in slow-motion?

A correction like we just had today and recovery from it used to happen both earlier and faster the way I recall the past rallies.

Is it just me? What could be possible explanations? Higher liquidity? lower amount of traders? Better distributed holdings?

(I'm not saying I don't like the relatively slow pace)

Trading Maturity?? Steadier hands??

This makes the previous bubble irrelevant. Historical data from September fake. All those trend-lines and analysis is based on fake trades and volume. Why the hell isn't anybody saying a thing??

The reason that BTC is so cheap and progresses so slowly is that people are only exponentially "getting it".
Well, from December to April, especially from February, the Chinese were exponentially "un-getting it"; and that was swamping any growth outside China.  (They may have started "getting it" again now, we'll see...)

You don't really know that.   For all any of us know, the Chinese, as a collective, may hold more coins now than they did before February.

Because willy's volume was 15 % of an exchange that was barely 10 % of the overall volume over all the exchanges.

Remember it was China that led us up, not Mtgox.

Because that report and your conclusions are bullshit.
I did read a lot of posts about Chinese fake volume and a about abot named Willy on Gox. But never thought Willy was fake.
If Mtgox faked volume. The Chinese probably are too. Maybe we should stop referring to any Chinese exchange as any indicator of price.
I'm long and cant rationalize that decision now.

No matter how small the volume the 10x price increase was induced.
The 5 month deflation makes perfect sense. Atleast its factored in now.

Whats the point referring to the previous ATH now?

If nobody wants govt regulation. Then a decentralised p2p exchange should end up being the leading exchange in time.

It's gonna be alright man...Take a deep breath.

We are up 11% in 3 days, 19% in a week, and 32% in a month. It's all good.
3 days since the report was published. Redittors and forum members know. What happens when the print media catches onto the story. Hope its factored in. I don't care even if we flatline for a year.
Now, what about the VC's and Wall street. I don't think anybody would want to touch BTC even with 10 feet pole unless the Exchanges clean up the Act. No wonder Bitstamp is putting up all these intrusive AML KYC stuff. Everybody's expecting some serious regulation to come up.

It's gonna be a long year.... <sigh>

We will still be > $1500 by years end though

We shall be >$1500 by the end of next month! By the end of the year we shall be >$6000. Bitcoin will attract so many new people from all over the world that governments will coordinate their efforts and shut down Internet completely for 24 hours in an attempt to disrupt bitcoin mining.

Diversify your portfolio between bitcoin, gold and silver!

These big price swings generate main stream news stories which get new people investing. Ironically it seems like all the new people buy in when they hear about another astounding ATH, not when they hear about the bottom of a bear market.

margin short temporarily. increase fiat. buy in at bear bottom. HODL

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Just got back from from buying a little more, just a half a coin today, but half a coin is better than none at all. Missed the bottom yesterday but hopefully caught it today.

Now we're scrapping over support at $900... currently $918USD at Bitcoinaverage. Meanwhile we're hanging tough at $1208 CAD, basically where we were at Xmas.

Hopefully that was the double bottom that will send it back up.

Double bottom on which timeframe?

new technologies do not get outlawed and never did. and bitcoin is a new technology.
new technology=blockchain they will not ban it of course.

but what im afraid of is that states+banks+multinational companies will use the technology to create their own [controlled] tokens. And when they are ready few years from now, they could start prohibiting  other cryptos from financial transactions. its impossible to ban people from sending bitcoin transactions, but they can ban e-shops/exchanges from accepting them for purchases payments, and push for their own controlled coins instead.
what would be bitcoin without ability to use it for buying stuff?

It would be interesting to find out how much percentage of bitcoins are used to purchase goods and services, how to trade and how much for long-term investment as safe haven.  Wink

A shitload to trade I bet.

we have broken down through the medium term support line

this could just be the mother of all bear traps...or things could get really ugly

You like a little drama in your posts?

Seems as if you are exaggerating a bit.

Look, we were just  at these price points a week ago (which is a 15% correction), and it would not be unreasonable to have a 30% or more correction.  I have my doubts about a 50% correction, but sometimes, momentum has it's own effect, and sure as fuck, bitcoin likes to overshoot expectations, no?  We are not beyond overshooting, but there is no need to exaggerate and to act like there is some kind of doom and gloom going on in bitcoin at this time, and there seems to be considerable and ongoing buying support, at this level and at lower levels, if we go there.

NO need to panic yet, boys and girl.

We both know that bitcoin always has the potential to lose on the order of 40% of its value in a matter of days.  It has happened many times in the past and yes, I have found it rather dramatic when it happened.  Were it to do that now it would put us under 3000 USD.  Such an event would not shake my faith in the long term exponential bull, but newcomers to the space should be aware of the possibility.

O.k.   So your reason for drama is to help out the "newcomers" to better understand the market movements of bitcoin?  A bit patronizing, no?

Yeah, newcomers can look at charts, and yes, there are a lot of people who jump into something blindly, so are these "newcomers" gonna understand your drama for what it is?  A warning or you want to call it an "awarening"?

Jesus, you still have that fucking massive stick up your ass.

Since when is someone doing some speculation in a speculation thread 'some drama'.  Please don't answer that with one of your fucking dull as dishwater walls of text, it was rhetorical.

The best thing noobs can do is put you on ignore.  This thread went down hill the day you turned up and you drove a lot of good people away with your pedantic bullshit.

damn it nan, you still quoting jjg?

Lot's of people that sell out seem to adapt to that attitude lol.

Really China again? thought we'd put them behind us!

Traveling by car last 2 days, just catching up on this drop. China syndrome has never lasted to long, if that's really what's driving it. We really cant rely on what we read or hear coming from China anyways. Give it a day or 2, lol

Well it has obviously had some kind of effect, why would the dumps and this news coincide?
