I have this crazy perspective about the Core vs. Unlimited BTC. The miners saying that their BTU will be the winner is a lot of wishfull thinking IMO. Just because they process the blocks they now somehow own the system??? They're hired help. That's why they get paid to do their job.

It can be very difficult to suss out whether Yorky is a troll or an innocent noob, and that is why some folks just block out newbie accounts as soon as they start to talk any kind of nonsense.   

I personally don't block out any accounts, but I understand the rationale to do so, especially when some of them can really be all over the place and really distracting from providing any kind of meaningful  bitcoin related information.

I've held back from trying to discuss my concerns here because I know I'll only get accused of spreading FUD but, since I do have skin in the game too, I'm going to post anyway.

The way I see it, Bitcoin Core vs. Unlimited isn't the problem, the prospect of a hardfork isn't the problem.  The problem is the total inability for Bitcoin to reach any sort of consensus.  I think many of us now are past giving a fuck about how the blocksize issue is resolved.  Double the blocksize or halve it, implement some wizardry or tell the microtransactions to sod off and use alts instead, it really doesn't matter.  What matters is that it is resolved one way or another.  The lack of governance is the real problem, only compounded by the refusal of so many to even acknowledge that there is a problem at all.

As others have said here before me, what makes this crash so difficult to stomach isn't the falling price.  We've all seen bitcoin win all sorts of challenges before.  What makes this one so disturbing is that the threat is on the inside, bitcoin's lack of governance, lack of ability to say "this is a problem and this is how we're going to fix it" is actually tearing it apart from the inside.  I'd rather see bitcoin drop to $200 because of China or the US government than to $900 because of infighting.  At least then I'd have some confidence that it would come through, but Bitcoin can only win through if it's in good fighting form and right now it isn't.

At risk of incurring the wrath of the Bad Analogy Police, Bitcoin right now reminds me of Ellen Ripley.  She could fight off any predator and overcome any threat until the threat came from within her own body.  Then she was forced to destroy herself before it destroyed her.

Yes, she was resurrected stronger and cooler for the fourth movie but that took many years and many failed attempts, and even when they succeeded in bringing her back to life she was fundamentally different as a result of incorporating the alien DNA into her own 


tl;dr: we just need a solution, any solution, but that does mean first accepting that there's a problem in the first place.

Everyone that uses TA and chart signals to trade bitcoin is a stupid person. TA is a fishnet used by market makers to catch small fish. The so called day traders are just adrenaline junkies. Ahh, I see what your problem is: It's impossible to trade an asset if you know that it is essentially crap. You should try to find trading pairs, which you are comfortable to hold to, even at a temporary loss. This worked for me in the past with Blackcoin and Monero.

Just remember that holding also requires patience and control. It also requires sufficient resources that you don't have to sell during times of lower prices.

If you're barely getting by and see your holdings worth a fraction of what they were worth, it can be really hard not to sell, especially if you strongly feel the price will keep going down.

Those are the times you should be buying more, albeit incrementally keeping enough spare fiat on hand to buy if it dips further.

Accumulating fiat from your normal income during periods of flat or rising prices is a good policy. That way you're always prepared to buy the dip.

Just never sell.

That's why I got into Bitcoin in the first place. The realization that I could make a lot of money from it came later.

It was all about decentralized, open-source peer-to-peer networking. This is what I call the real New World Order.

When I first heard about Napster, it wasn't free music that fascinated me. It was the idea of P2P file sharing. I watched as the process evolved from centralized to partially centralized and then to fully decentralized, ending up with bittorrent magnet links and torrent portals existing on redundant cloud servers based on multiple continents.

I watched Wikipedia evolve from a sketchy platform where anyone could post any bullshit they wanted to my go-to site for research. The site itself may be centralized but the content is controlled by a worldwide decentralized community of contributors who keep it honest.

Social media sites are similar. The sites themselves may be so centralized that they are all basically operated by Prism but the content is still supplied by a worldwide community. Likewise crowdfunding.

I actually went to the charts to look at Ethereum, and I realize that you are just attempting to some kind of reverse psychology misinformation, and I see that ETH still holding its own around $50 - could go up or could go down.

Money tends to move down the pyramid, from BTC to big alts (ETH, DASH), mid-size ones, and then the P&D vehicles. Yesterday's BTCD pump is the perfect example - it's been swapped out for another coin now, so BTCD itself has low available supply and is thinly traded.
So now we're at the bottom of the pyramid, which means there's nowhere left to go downwards. It's back to BTC or fiat from here.

IMO, the actual sideways market can be explained with the following two assumptions:

- There is no inmediate fork risk as the support growth for Bitcoin Unlimited stalled, and the remaining Bitcoin pools are very unlikely to change to BU. So it would be very difficult for BU even to reach 50% of the hashrate, and 75% seems almost impossible.
- But as the debate is not solved, there isn't fresh money flowing into BTC as long term usage/price potential is bound to a scaling solution - be it on-chain or off-chain (with Segwit).

There is a triangle closing tomorrow (bearish highs and sideways-to-bullish lows), but it's a bit irregular so I don't know if there will be any impact. Best bet is not to risk anything now.

Much of trading takes place on places with even less regulation than your average Bitcoin exchange. The SEC doesn't care about centralised development, just the trading. And that's probably a convenient umbrella for all the other stuff they don't like or understand.

It looks like similar wording to the existing GBTC in which case they don't need the SEC and it will happen. A nice asset for the space. It never really set Bitcoin on fire though, perhaps it'll do more for ETC.

It won't be an ETF though. I assume it'll be on the same terms as GBTC in which case there are far more caveats attached than the ETF everyone was hoping for. GBTC started off as for accredited investors only and then it locked funds for a year before the shares could be traded.

The funny thing about countries "officially recognizing" Bitcoin as a method of payment is pretty facetious.

So they "recognize officially" something that they don't have control over anyway, and the "recognition" part is just a promise to regulate and tax the transactions.

Of course a correction can come at any time; however, in the past couple of months we had an upwards price movement that brought us pretty solidly into the $1200s, and then we had a correction below $900, and in the past week and a half, we have experienced a rebound from the $900 correction.. .and currently we are moving in the upwards direction with continued upwards pressure... of course a correction can happen at any time, but we are not even flat, yet.  You are calling for a correction while the price is continuing to move up... sure, yes it is going to happen at some point, but the price is currently moving up, no?

I have no problem if traders feel comfortable selling on the way up and continuing to sell on the way up to protect their investment, but traders could also miss opportunities if they sell too much and expect that the price is going to correct while it is moving up.  In the end, we should attempt to balance for either direction but ongoing suggestion that a correction is in the works seems a bit like you are talking your book and hoping that the price will come back down because you already sold too many.

We finally got a bit of a retracement after a week and a half of almost continuous gains... currently $1136USD (Bitcoinaverage).

It still only dipped less than half of what it rose yesterday. This is healthy.

Today Bitfcoin took off, then landed exactly where it started. We are no worse off than a day ago and in the long term we are headed up. Going up by $40, then back down by $40 is like a test run for a proper rocket launch pump.

That alt bubble will burst. It's just a matter of time. And when that happens I can imagine some major shifting to Bitcoin. This will be then the next BTC bubble!
So tell your guys to be cautious. The alt bubble is already extremely bloated.

You can't make any profits when relying your own positions on some random tweets or random chartists from tradingview. Active trading is a really hard thing, and to master it you really need to put a lot of time and effort.

This thread always gives some perspective. Lots of people around here seem to enjoy sneering at anyone who sold at $1 but hindsight is always 20/20. If you'd paid less than 1c and it was still very possible it was going to turn to dust then the temptation to make bank would've been too much for most. If I'd been active in 2011/12 though I don't think I would've folded.

The wall at $1200 is about 1000 BTC.

Huge walls like that tend to be manipulation in the direction of the wall.

They want to place a mental barrier for people looking to buy and maybe scare some others into selling.

Walls are never resistance points, they're just fun to look at.

The price jumped quickly to $1350 then came back down the day of the ETF.

I keep most in cold storage but what I do have on exchanges I go pretty much all in or out depending on which way I think it's going. It might be a poor strategy for some but it's worked well for me so far.

Bitfinex would still be solvent, unlike Gox, but with no way of getting USD out of there then the only way out is BTC. Gox was usually 5-10% above everywhere else because of that for a long time.

I'm not sure whether their channels are the same for deposits though. If all USD supply dried up it would become pretty irrelevant.

While Bfx are definitely crooks on so many levels, how exactly are they screwing up in this situation? A bank that they are not banking with is blocking their wires.

Clearly, if any person or group were to be able to cause BTC prices to rise up to $1million within a set time frame, such as 1 year as you suggested, to make the pay off and to profit handsomely, you would really need only have a small amount of bitcoin - including as small of an amount as 1.1 bitcoins.. sure you could have more than that, but not necessary.

That's good news. I heard that the Mt Gox are planning to get back up with the same exact processing which the bitfinex used and i heard the news about the Mt Gox was one of the reason why the price of bitcoin mooning this days. Could the reason why we have bitcoin at the $1200 level?

A pump is not the same as "people buying". Whales can pump or dump into their own walls, and use fake news to drive the speculation in either direction.

Those shitcoins aren't going anywhere but down in the long term.

JJG thought I was a reckless gambler when stating I had gone all fiat @ 1200 USD. I see no reason to play bits of this and that and percentages. I go with momentum and and have no problem reassessing my position and changing if need be.  Not panicking and buying back when it went higher than 1220 took some restraint but I was confident in the position.
