My 401K will be a part of the inflow of 401K money into the Winklevoss BCT.  I doubt the trust will drive prices lower.  Money that can already buy that wants to buy BTC will have done so.  Money that currently can not buy BTC that wants to buy it may.  If that money overflows the trust holdings, the trust may buy and so may drive the price higher.

People that want BTC to USE IT won't be buying trust shares, it is for stagnant money, like 401Ks and pension trusts and such.

+1
I would suggest all 401k to hold gold/metals and hopefully this new ETF.  getting out of anything tied to US$ might be a good idea.  The FED reserve is out of control and not accountable to anyone.  scary stuff.

In NYC bitcoin was on the front page of the Times last week, front page of the Metro today.

I STILL have not met a single cab driver who knew what bitcoin was.

So growth.  Much runway.  Wow.

I agree, the runway is being paved (a very nice wide/smooth runway)

not sure if someone already mentioned it but Bitcoin was mentioned in two huge TV shows last week or so.

I believe we will see a potential "bubble" or at least a new plateau when the COIN ETF is approved.
I know it has been mentioned and discussed every few weeks in a passing comment, but seriously - if we were to know just how much money is there waiting in personal retirement funds that will go to this ETF.

There are many "old folks" like me that have substantial savings that currently cannot be spent on BTC as it is tied up in corporate approved mutual funds and the SEC approved stocks/bonds.

once we have the COIN ETF, I know a substantial portion of my 401k will funnel to it.  I think once the word gets out, it will be follow the leader and quite a price jump will result.

Ok. just kidding.
They would never pull in all those folks so close to the deadline just to shut it all down, would they?   Does anyone really know how this system operates?  I don't, I know nothing about SEC protocol - just asking if anyone out there can chime in.

Like I said before, this is one deal where the insiders can tell all their family members and friends without any risk of repercussion since bitcoin has total anonymity and no one could find a trail back to the leaker.

I really do think the insiders are leaking information - assuming the news is "approval" and the recepients of said information can benefit enough to outweigh the risks (which are minor to non-existent in this case).

sorry if this has already been posted...   found on Reddit.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The March 11 date came about because it is 180 days from the publication of the proposed BATS rule change in the Federal Register - there can be no more 45 or 90 day delays - SEC must approve or reject, with no decision = acceptance (Rule 19, Sec Exch Act of 1934)...

But look at how time periods for publications in the Federal Register are calculated pursuant to 1 CFR 18.17(b):

"Dates certain will be computed by counting the day after the publication day as one, and by counting each succeeding day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. However, where the final count would fall on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, the date certain will be the next succeeding Federal business day."

That would put us at Monday, March 13 for the deadline.

I haven’t claimed my BTG yet but from what I’ve read Coinimi looks the best bet to do it safely. Input your old private keys that had bitcoin associated with them at the fork & then your Coinimi account will be credited with BTG.

Personally I’d then move them to bittrex & exchange for bitcoin (exactly what I did with my BCH - but moved from Electron Cash to bittrex instead).

I've used Coinomi to claim some of my BTG and it worked flawlessly. Didn't use a seed, as I had already transferred some BTC to it before the fork, in order to ease the claim process. Important: you need to change the BTG address derivation path in order to get to your claimed coins. The normal Coinomi BTG wallet has a different path and your coins won't show straight away. Don't panic, just Google it, I think there's an official guide for this.

I checked on Coinomi.  they only have an android wallet.   Nothing for windows PC yet.  unless i am missing something.

I am not placing any serious funds on a phone !!!!!  Phones are for play money and coffee/groceries.

I don't care how "experienced" the day traders are and how comfortable they play in the futures world...  When they go walking up to the honey badger and stick their hands out to play - it's going to be ugly for the traders.

Honey badgers will snap your fingers off without a warning.   Honey badger does not care.

The futures traders will go down hard if they bet against Bitcoin

Thought about sending them an email to the effect of "Dudes. You are seriously harshing my retirement plans. What more can I do, in addition to the colonoscopies you have performed on me already, to get verified for that level. If $6M is too much, can I do $3M if it's easier ? Please. Take my money."

If you are asking about Gemini, they have unlimited withdrawal via bank wire to your approved bank account.  You must complete the KYC requirements and such.  ACH deposits and withdrawls are also available but limited.

Well I did her a great disfavour prejudging her so. Last Christmas I'd apparently been teasing them all that bitcoin is tied to identity and when a holder dies their coin has to go back in to the 'mining pool', so they shouldn't expect anything from me. But lo she had since done some research 'for me' and this is not the case at all. In fact, it is quite like real money and you can just send it to anyone. Perhaps if I didn't understand it all that well, it might be better to distribute my coin 'around the family' before the 'time' comes, just to 'be safe'. I started in on my long discourse on primogeniture (this creature is married to Indolent Son Number 2), how it is a great mistake to break up estates and spare sons really always made for excellent bishops or conquerors in mediaeval times... I used to tease Son 2 about that stuff, but he knows I'm just being a dick. Next update: at Easter if we get that far, I suppose she'll be tackling me on fairness and partible inheritance.

Accumulation is happening again. But note that at these price levels, this accumulation could go on for a very long time.

You guys may die of complete boredom in the interim.

What timeframe are you talking about here? Months? Years?

<snip>

The only thing that could rapidly change the game at this point, is something uber bullish like an ETF approval. I don't feel like that has been "priced in" yet.

I am almost 99% sure it has NOT been priced in.   When we know ETF(s) are for sure, or at least one has been givin approval, it's going to get crazy.
Here is my delima:  I have 30+ years of retirement "locked up" in the company 401k.   I cannot get out of this 401k since my employer has a contract with the custodian (Fidelity).  The only way out is to quit and roll over to another custodian or do the self-directed 401k thing.

Anywho, here is the predictable scenario I see playing out....
1. ETF is approved (or enough insiders know it is approved that it becomes obvious).
2. price of BTC skyrockets ahead of the ETF offering.
3. ETF becomes available to us "working stiffs" after the huge price spike.
4. I will continually kick myself for not getting my 401 funds in a position to capitalize on the "very predictable" future.

I am so sure of this playing out, I feel the irresistable urge to either quit my employer or take the penalties and remove the 401k funds from the program.

Stamp is the recognized WO datum of record.

You have to pick something or else price discussions become meaningless. And Stamp is the least bullshit exchange.

jbreher is big on disambiguation, I'm sure he'll understand.  Roll Eyes

Yeah, I get the point. However, the micro price on stamp is irrelevant to my activity on Coinbase. I was clearly speaking about Coinbase, when JJG felt the need to counsel me on the use of stamp. Irrelevant. (Why does everything I post here get twisted into a referendum on something else entirely?)

In tangentially-related matters, I am becoming disillusioned with Coinbase as of late. I already have accounts on most of the old-guard exchanges as well, which are no more satisfying. Anyone care to name a favorite? Criteria include:
Accessible from US (but don't care about NY BitLicense)
Secure
Low fees for market makers
Bigly Deposit/Withdrawal limits - both fiat and crypto
Insurance a plus - as long as it is underwritten by real insurers
Don't much mind having to do the KYC dance. I mean, I mind it on philosophical grounds, but am prepared to do so.

I've been using Gemini. They're the most legit exchange on the planet, from I found last year. They're insured, highly solvent, relatively transparent, don't engage in wash trading and market manipulation, etc.
Downsides: high fees and lower liquidity than some of the other big exchanges (who fake their volume)

I absolutely love Gemini.
they offer deals thruout the year of free block trading (usually 10 BTC minimum) where there are no fees for buying and selling.
Once you have bank accounts linked up and everything verified, you can perform HUGE transactions both in and out of your Gemini account - speaking of the experiences of a friend of course.

Better keep that thing well away from any magnets

You want a magnet-proof wallet?

Oops. I'm showing my age again.

My wallet is bigger >>  brings back memories of the beloved TRS80

The movie is already available for download (in good quality). I'll let you look for it on the web since I'm not sure we're allowed to post torrent links or direct download links.

WAIT...there is yet another Hemsworth?   I knew about Chris and Liam.. did not know about a Luke.   Wow.  I will crawl out from under my rock a bit more often maybe..  It's like the Baldwins.. they just keep coming.

Building a seastead was a dumb idea to begin with, he would of been better off buying a bunch of land somewhere and trying to start his own country.

wow.  you just got on the "ignore" list of 95% of WO participants.

What to think of these wallet ?

Man, I just cannot get into the hard wallets..

a. the best and brightest individuals design these devices
b. man is flawed and ALWAYS looking to benefit for himself.  we are not "hive" minded by default.

a + b = untrustable deliverables.   I just do not think there is any way you can be 100% assured that the device will not send your private information on to another device or the "network" at its earliest opportunity.   I have just seen too many con jobs from too many "trusted" and "honest" folk.

Note:  I have seen easter eggs make it into software that was peer reviewed and verified.   You would have to work hard to convince me to put my savings on an electronic device.     I know.. I purchase crypto with the internet and PC wallets... but I get my stuff to paper the first chance I get.   I find the challenges of keeping paper from flood and fire much less stressful than the alternatives.

Ha Ha !!!   That one got me...
I resisted looking it up for some time, but then I knew my mind would explode if I did not get that resolved quickly !
How many times have I heard that song?  Hundreds,  Thousands of times?   and I still could not recollect where that combination of words came from...  WOW.

Nice...The B.R. movie was pretty good IMO.

I'm starting to lose motivation at work...

today I came to work to use their fast connection to watch the charts  - and read WO posts  : )

in 2017 I was slowly cleaning out my desk and trying to decide how to creatively "resign" in some sort of memorable manner..  then 2018 happened and I had to put all that on hold.

now I am wondering if I should move a few more personal items from my work desk ... feeling like 2017 again...

This is unsustainable. The price will be under $10k before the end of the year, and stay there until Libra takes over. Bitcoin is done. Short bitcoin.

Merited for making me laugh. I'm borrowing the jbreher rule.

'Make me spew? Get a merit!'

wait.. what ??  giving bogus "doom is going to consume us all" type predictions gets you merits?   Don't give the kid in the store a treat when they are acting bad.   You guys are rewarding bad behavior.
