if we don't see some buying soon, we will crash; target 168

right now another 10000 coins would have to be dumped (the same amount that was dumped when we were at 230) before we even hit 175. Do you really think another monster dump could come now? obviously its possible, but i feel its not that likely...

Everything is possible, right?  You wouldn't dump 10k coins, which would maybe be at an average sale price of, say, $180, unless you thought it would crash further and were pretty confident of it.  You'd either be hoping you could purchase those 10k coins back at a lower price afterwards, than $180 (good luck with that), or you seriously think it's unlikely the price of bitcoin will pass $180 (as for dumping 10k bitcoins) over the next few years.

Given a possible cup and handle forming, and the general consensus that, pending no really bad news, this appears to be a consolidation before pumping north, it would seem extremely dumb... but who knows.  Always possible, not probable.  Maybe an epic fail mis-click?    Cheesy

I'd be afraid to even short right now, because if feels like, at any second, a few nice buy orders stringed together could set off a rampage north.  But that's just me (and really not based on much).
that isnt the consensus

Okay.  I'm officially sick of Gox.  This last few days have been awful.  I'm thinking of moving to BTC-e.  Anything in particular I should watch out for?

Just the Russians closing their doors and leaving with your BTC a la Sheep Marketplace style. Or someone closing their bank account etc... with the same results, without any known person or company to follow. People bitch about Gox (and for good cause) but there's a reason that it's the only place where all of the big whales play at and every other exchange follows. Even after stopping all USD withdrawals, and a month SEPA withdrawals they're still like #1 (or so) exchange, think about it

bitstamp, low fees, trust, less lag etc. all there and you don't have to deal with marks goxxing
btc-e has lower fees and superior trade engine. there is some give and take.

Yesterday, everyone (including myself) thought that $550 was the bottom. Hence the panic buying which took Bitcoin right back up to over $600. Only problem was that the selling pressure kicked right back in gradually increasing in momentum. Today we hit $538. The rebound up to $575 (Stamp) was hardly the sort of emphatic bounce that tells a trader that the bottom is in.

I certainly didn't think $550 was bottom. Looked mainly like short squeeze and panic buying fish. I admit, I missed the spike to the $620 area but managed to sell $610 (BFX). If we can find diminished sell pressure at the last low or slightly lower low, the bottom will be in. The bounce won't necessarily tell you that. It may need a retest for any confirmation here.

Bullish consolidation. We broke the short term down trend and are now consolidating, with bulls IMO getting more and more confident in the current level. I see a lot of support building down to the 3750 level on Huobi.

Right?

Depends how close the auction prices are to the exchange prices. May be that they are pretty close already, and so the market wouldn't have to move much to meet them. Still not sure if we will actually get official word on the prices?

Right?

What do you think the chances we even find out the outcome are?

Personally, I think they are low. It's a closed auction. I don't think any official channel (government) will release anything. And I wouldn't be surprised if the bidders have to seal their lips based on some terms of the auction. No experience here obviously, but that is what my gut is telling me.

As someone who gets paid monthly in fiat and is still trying to accumulate more bitcoin, I'm rather fond of this behavior.

As low as possible for as long as possible, thanks.

That's my suspicion as well. But the daily looks an awful lot like the last bottom of the 550 level. Bullish engulfing candle, 2nd green candle, pullback on Saturday. Then it was a low volume green candle Sunday followed by a pump on Monday. Smiley

Tuesday, Apple releases iPhone and their new payment system.

Possible uncertainty until Tuesday.

I'd be surprised if any of this had significant effect on the price in the short term. The most important thing to remember is that we are in a strong technical down trend on longer term time frames -- until that breaks.... more of the same. Sideways/down.

It can't stay like this forever but while it does we don't have much to talk about in this thread.

The flatness is actually what dragged me back. This tight range has "huge move" written all over it, when it finally breaks. Really big squeeze happening. You think Mt. Gox is solely responsible for the ~ 1200$ price tag? That's interesting. Has anyone explained how? If so then Bitcoin's collapse is also due to Mt. Gox as well as bears and the bear market.
Willey bot.

What is Willey bot? Something Mt. Gox used to inflate the price?

People claim that the Willy Bot (an account backed by no real assets) was used to continually push the price up on MT Gox, and therefore, that it caused the bubble. I think that's crazy talk. The demand was clearly there, and the market was much bigger than Gox -- even at that time.
