I'm sorry Adam your thread is now nearly useless. It does however focus most of the naysayers in one place , acting as a fly trap if you will.

If you are antibitcoin I ask that whatever bears still have coins.....please form a coordinated dump so my now **Daily**fixed USD buys get me more coins. --100% serious, please dump all you have and cut your losses Cheesy

You buy a fixed amount daily, bears dump a fixed amount daily.  It all works out & becomes a part of the wonderful fabric we call the free market.

I'm buying with both hands.

Seems like your hands are empty, because no volume.
You're not alone tho, pretty much all of the bitcoin faithful pawned their families a while ago to buy coins, now all they can do is watch.

Holding is a good strategy.

Perhaps, but that's not the point.  There are 3,600 bitcoins mined per day when the hashrate is static, more when it is increasing.  The majority of these coins are sold to pay for electricity and upkeep of the mines, bills need to be paid.  This means that even if every bitcoiner just hodls, new money has to come into the system to maintain the price.

In other words, the bitcoin network is printing money at a rate of around 15% per year.  This is just like the FED printing 15% more dollars a year - both debase the underlying currency by 15%.

15% is a lot above reality. 10/11% is a better approximation.

15% is actually pretty close if we're talking YTD.  Remember, the difficulty was going up in double digits.  In the past 24 hrs, the average time to solve a block is down to 8 min. 37sec.  10 min. blocks would yield 10% inflation, longer=lower inflation; shorter=higher.

The hashrate has been consistently at the ATH, because until the last two difficulty adjustments it has been climbing.  Hashrate dropping means miners are shutting off their gear.

I think bitcoin which is up +2251.12% in two years can deal with 15% inflation.

What? Didn't you know that Bitcoin only started a little over a year ago at over $1000 and has been falling ever since on its way to zero?

It's a South Seas Ponzi beanie baby tulip pyramid scam. All the famous financial experts say so, so it must be.

I'm doing fine, don't care about me.

+2297.74% in two years is great by anyone's standards, I'm just trying to wrap my head around how such numbers can be achieved when you clearly have also bought in the 600 range.
Or did you actually stop buying once bitcoin price broke $13?

Even if dakota didn't, others probably did.

It's theoretically possible, but a smart guy once said that in theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
In reality, very few people have bought a bundle at $13, put it in a paper wallet, and held 'til now.  Most 13 dollar coins were sold many times over, or stolen, or left on gox, or invested with pirate, and so on.

But all that's beside the point.  What I find curious is how those who joined the forum in June (and likely lost half of their investment since then) like to quote pretty numbers from 2 years ago.

Is it too much for you to grasp the idea that he may have been involved in Bitcoin and even bought bitcoins years before joining this forum?

Then again, beartard trolls aren't the sharpest spoons in the knife drawer.

Sigh.

No no no, that's not the problem I'm having.  Mr. dakota neat has claimed to have made +2297.74% in two years, and I do understand that people on the internet don't lie.
Wishing to learn how to achieve such stellar results (who wouldn't amirite?), I asked my new friend to teach me.  He's fallen rather silent, which is not the usual friendly sharing and exchange of ideas I've come to expect from bitcointalk.

On an unrelated note, and if it's not too forward of me to ask, what is your current bitcoin position?  You seem to be rather testy and irritable, I understand such etiquette lapses are often the result of what's known in the financial circles as "being overinvested."
Is that, perhaps, the cause?

No no no, allow me to break this down for you in a hypothetical.
Imagine yourself buying a wooden nickel for a dollar.
Your friends, the other investors, also started buying up wooden nickels, in two year's time driving the price to $10 ea.
Having bought your wooden nickels at $1, you proceed to calculate your profit as 1000%.
Easy.
But wait!
Being a wooden nickel believer, you didn't stop buying as soon as the price broke $1.  No.  You continued buying all the way up to $10, because you are what's called a "permabull."

At this point, you must be beginning to guess what comes next.  Your profit is not 1000% but significantly less.
Made significantly less still by the fact that now, the wooden nickel prices have been steadily falling for over a year, and the $10 nickels are now only worth $3.12 Sad

There's no magic. Buy and Hold.

You seemingly missed my point.  Have you stopped buying coins in 2012, or have you bought any since?
If it is the former then you're rather, what's the polite term I'm looking for? ...disingenuous when advising others to buy.
If it is the latter, then your profit is far below your +2297.74%.

Hopefully this clarifies things a bit.
BTW, what am I looking at?  What exchange is that?  Not recognising it.

It's more like you are into special wooden nickels made of a specific tree, cut down and uniquely identifiable by it's dna. It's the first kind of wooden nickels that are uniquely identifiable in that way. The problem is there are other people who have done that with other trees, and their wooden nickels have the same properties besides being from a different tree.

While they have the same intrinsic properties, their extrinsic properties are dramatically different.  It is not the intrinsic properties of BTC which give it fundamental value, but extrinsic ones.

Things with different properties behave differently.

Are you suggesting that it's not the technology but the userbase/great PR which gives bitcoin value?
I was lead to believe the value behind bitcoin was disruptive technology Sad

I'm looking for an answer to my question, that being "what exchange is that"?
As I've suggested to JimboToranto in a previous post, your "distinct impression" may be caused by your overinvestment in bitcoin.  I'm not a psychiatrist tho, so you might want a professional opinion.

A great PR always does vary prices. In a positive as well as a negative way. But the technology is the major factor imo.

First mover advantage probably helps give bitcoin some value. The technology and the PR are probably also major factors.

So what, exactly, are bitcoin's "extrinsic qualities" that can't be replicated?  First mover advantage, and ... that's all I got.  The infrastructure can be easily usurped by any SHA256 clone coin.  As I understand it, a big chunk of hashpower was just recently switched back to bitcoin after mining some alt?

I'm new here but not particularly new to BTC.

I've been investing for just under 6 months & have so far amassed 8.75 BTC, I bought most of my coins when the price was around Ģ350 (GBP) , unsure what that is in dollars but I'm at a pretty bad loss currently.

Let's see here...
@current rate Ģ350=$544.84 * 8.75 = $4767.35 - (314 * 8.75) = $2019.85 in the hole if no more slick trading was done in the interim.

I believe BTC ain't a pnozi because if it was, I don't think people are too fool to be true to put in their monies in this so-called pnozi...

There are still some places where people accept BTC to buy a coffee, ain't there? Wink

I didn't say that bitcoin was a ponzi, just explained why a reasonable person would invest in one.  Bitcoin is more of a pyramid scheme.
Not sure what people taking BTC for coffee has to do with this.

Obviously, it has to... Because it is a part too of the so-called pyramid scheme you talking about... Take Microsoft as example, they started taking BTC and yes, I do believe that for us the price of Bitcoins ain't what we wanted after bashing in all the stupid posts regarding the moons, but this is what these big guys wanted, a bit-stable environment to neither profit a lot, nor make a huge loss... Else, whilst the previous auction was held, nobody would have bought any of these...

Whoa there.  A ponzi is a pyramid scheme created by a malefactor.
A pyramid scheme is any scheme in which early adopters profit only if new money keeps coming in.  I don't think you want to argue that Bitcoin's price can grow without influx of new money - bitcoin doesn't produce anything other than more bitcoins and heat.

I have already explained why a rational player would invest in a pyramid scheme (buy BTC at the auction), but I'll do it again:

1. Buy BTC below market at auction.
2. Sell on exchanges at market.
3. Profit.

Ok, I understood your point. But, who says that new monies won't come in and people won't profit anymore? BTC is still in development mode and has a lot to capture... Smiley

That's a different question altogether.  There's always new money coming in, the question is "at what rate?"  With Beanie Babies, for instance, it's sufficient for the actors to hodl their Beanies for the price to remain stable.
Not so with bitcoin.
Unlike the Beanies, which are no longer being printed  mined made, more than 3,600 bitcoins are printed every day.  These, as I've pointed out, are being sold.
Enough fresh money needs to come into the system buy these and keep the price stable.

TL;DR: It's not impossible for the price to go up, but for it to go up substantially is unlikely.  Just an opinion.

NLC hasn't been active for 6 days Shocked

He won't be back until Easter.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am NotLambchop; and shall deceive many.
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
All these are the beginning of sorrows.

TL:DR:  I am amongst you, and though I once came to you as the Lamb, so shall I return as the lion, to judge and to smite.  And to chew bubblegum.  But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Its the irony of Bitcoin; once you realize you need it, you can't get any because nobody wants what you have to trade (your hyper-fiat)

What, my hyper-fiat?

Maybe in 50 years that thing will become cute, sorta like Messerschmitt KR

It's easy to criticize when you're the one watching. Performing/public speaking is a very difficult skill to master.

Especially when you got nothing to say & just basically suck in general.  The cool thing about preforming/public speaking is ... no one needs to do it unless he wants to.  There's always the option of doing something more useful, like digging ditches or washing dishes.

Exactly!  Just ignore the h8rs.  It';s all gonna work out, it always does!

Yeah and perfectly timed with news of another bunch of coins supposedly stolen. I guess a broken clock is correct at least 2 times a day.

BTCunches of BTCitcoins are always stolen.  Like clockwork.  And who needs a clock to trade Bitcoin anyhow?  It's always time to sell.

I've always been amazed by your ability to always make money by always selling bitcoins and never buying any (to close your shorts).

I used to be amazed by Bitcoiners' ability to make the most idiotic false assumptions, but no more.  I simply repeat, for th Nth time, that I haven't done any serious trading for over a year.

You already forgot what you just read, didn't you?

Nice healthy pullback.
...

I suspect the pullbacks will only get healthier as more & more Bitcoiners realize their magik tokens are worthless for buying drugs.
There's simply not enough demand for terrorists and child pornography to support Bitcoin's current price.

Or is there?
