Cyprus thing is a joke. That was just speculative mania. I will ask you something: have you invested significant money in Bitcoin? If the answer is yes, how long did it take from the first moment you heard about it?
Again: entering into Bitcoin is a lengthy process - first you have to understand, not only what is Bitcoin but also how to keep your bitcoins safe. Then you have to find out how to buy them, and then you slowly start pouring money, just a little a the beginning.
That's everybody's process. When it will come the day that the average citizen will have the understanding and the means to quickly throw a lot of fiat into Bitcoin after the kind of news we had in March, then.... Well, you cannot imagine the kind of huge motherfucking bubbles we are going to see.
I have to agree with this 100%.
It took me 1 week to put $17 cash into an envelope and mail it to canada to buy my first coins. 2 more weeks to have a miner setup and initiated a bank transfer to gox. I consider that pretty fast and that was only possible because I had all kinds of prerequisites already in place (understanding of crypto, understanding of double spend problem, understanding of p2p network). I had to talk to noone to confirm this thing was legit and most likely functional. There was no misleading press or ponzi accusations all over the net either, which should slow the process even more in this day and age.
Average nowadays is probably more like
6 weeks from first exposure to first substantial buy.
We're thinking too short-term. There's all kinds of buffers (delays) and feedback loops in this system that need time to play out.
Seconded. If you're a goldbug libertarian with technical background and high risk tolerance, it's possible you might "get it" and buy relatively quickly, within a few weeks. But that would be very unusual. My experience with anyone lacking that magical quatrifecta, is that it takes months of investigating and being prodded before any action. There are people I've been talking to about Bitcoin for almost two years, are positive about it, but still haven't pulled the trigger.

coinsetter is launching end this month supposedly, i expect a mass exodus from gox to coinsetter if their platform proves to be good.
that means a huge pump on gox of people buying coins on gox in order to move them to coinsetter
What does coinsetter offer over campbx and bitstamp?
That's what we'll find out at the end of the month i guess. It's the first legitimate US based exchange for one.
Unfortunately my understanding from attendees at the NY conference is that Coinsetter will be initially closed to USA residents because they have not obtained the necessary licensing/compliance.
On the other hand other exchanges like CoinX supposedly will be coming online in the fall and claim to have a number of USA MSB state registrations already in place.
Sooner or later, Gox and other amateurs will go the way of the dodo...but it will be laborious process and might not fully play out till 2014.

It would be nice to have a twitter update or SOMETHING from Gox but as usual they are mum.
They are to busy googling "How do I buizness??" atm.
50 years from now we will be telling our grandkids about Gox and they won't believe that such levels of incompetence lasted for more than 5 minutes let alone several years.
Perhaps today is the day that the big lumbering dinosaur has been wiped out by an incoming asteroid?

Fascinating legal argument.

Don't worry mate, it's their loss.
Bear trap!
Give them a last little bit of hope before it exceeds 200 forever...

this is no good.... at all... WAY WAY too fast going up.
It would be nice for the chart to just consolidate around this level for a few weeks. But we as already know, Bitcoin does what it wants...and there will be a new wave of press coverage in the next 48hs which could add more fuel to the fire.
It seemed impossible just a few weeks ago, but 266 is now relatively close and a likely target, my guess is that more meaningful resistance (from once-bitten Westerners) will come in as we approach that number.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the resilience in price over the past 24hs.

News flash:
http://finance.sina.com.cn/money/bank/hykx/20131115/083317332778.shtmlThe CEO of Huobi, one Chinese Bitcoin exchange which processed tens of millions of dollars a day, has told a journalist that out of the site's VIP customers(those who trade more than 10 million CNYs per month), 40% are females, it's widely suspected that most of them are damas, i.e. female kins of wealthy businessmen in China.
He also confirms that they have started talks with Great Wisdom, maker of China's leading stock trading software, about the acquisition of his company by Great Wisdom, and is developing a series of financial products based on Bitcoin.
Thank you. This is great news.
And it gives us a new wonderful zen catchphrase: do not fear the foam.
For those who want to participate bitcoin investment people end Hongbin proposal is also very straightforward, do not fear the foam, just make sure you run faster than others fast on the line, "The more people behind their smaller the risk, the risk lies How often have you next home and any one bubble is true. Keep in mind that this is for people that already invest in stocks, still only 5% actually invested in btc and probably 90% of them still for small amounts.
Just a sign that we are still (very) early adopters imo.
Similar result among the professionals, lots of adoption still to come:
“I still don’t even know what it is” – Jim Chanos, famed short-seller and founder of $6 billion Kynikos Associates.
“You know, I don’t understand bitcoin” – Bonnie Baha, head of Global Developed Credit at $53 billion DoubleLine Capital.
“I don’t really know enough to have a view” – Chris Delong, chief investment officer of $8.1 billion multi-strategy hedge fund Taconic Capital Advisors
“I don’t have any insight at all. I don’t know how it should be valued. I have no anchor as to what it’s worth”- Steven Einhorn, Vice-Chairman of Omega Advisors
“I like sound currencies. I have no interest in that. I would stay away” - Margie Patel, senior portfolio manager at Wells Capital Management.

Memo to would-be weekend manipulators: your shenanigans are becoming sad and pathetic.
Most coins are now held by strong hands not stupid enough to believe that whales would permanently liquidate large coinage at the time of the week when there is the least liquidity. We all know you are trying to trigger fake panics and bearish technical formations. And we know you intend to buy those coins back just as quickly as you sold them.
If you want us to stop yawning, do a dump on a weekday, when people are awake, during real banking hours.

This weekend's attempt to cause a panic was truly laughable.
Was that all you've got, manipulators? Please order some Viagra before trying again. There is at least one pharmacy that takes Bitcoins.

A few signs pointing to the bear trap closing for good at this price. Will be interesting to see if the follow through is there.
Hourly close above 850 would signal end of the flag/consolidation and start "closing the handle" for a move into the 4 digits.

this is BITCOINtalk.org, not Dogecointalk. You fuckers are just being rude. I don't go to your house, piss in the flowerpot and shit on your rug. Please do us the same courtesy. You have your own, threads, your own subforum, your own reddit. use them and leave us alone. We don't want you here. You are like juveniles. you missed the early adopter phase and you think it's unfair. tough shit. life ain't fair. It'll be even less fair when your shitcoin tanks but I won't invade your space and gloat about it cuz, you know, I'm better than you. Now do me the favor of fucking off and possibly dying, but that last part is up to you. Thanks.
Excellent (and justified) rant. Bravo.
